BARCELONA are closing in on a transfer for Tottenham flop Giovani Lo Celso, according to reports. The LaLiga giants are keen to bolster their midfield this summer.

And Mundo Deportivo state Xavi has identified Lo Celso as a suitable low-cost option and ideal addition to the squad.
Ruben Neves was a target but the Catalan club have set their eyes on Lo Celso after Wolves sold their captain to Al-Hilal for £47million.
The Argentine playmaker, 27, has spent the last 18 months on loan at Villarreal and has impressed with his performances.
And it is unlikely Tottenham would stand in his way of leaving this summer, two years before his contract expires.

The former PSG and Real Betis star has managed just nine goals in 84 appearances, initially joining Spurs on loan in 2019 and then completing a £27m transfer a year later.
Lo Celso would be up against the likes of Gavi, Pedri, Frenkie de Jong and Franck Kessie for a place in the Spanish giants’ midfield.
But the news of Barcelona’s interest will come as a big blow to Aston Villa.
Unai Emery was keen to be reunited with Lo Celso after getting the best out of him at Villarreal.

But the chance to join the LaLiga champions and compete in the Champions League at the Nou Camp could be the perfect move for Lo Celso to end his struggles in the Premier League.
And Barcelona could sweeten the deal for Tottenham by offering Clement Lenglet to the North Londoners.
French defender spent last season on loan at Spurs and the club are keen to make the switch permanent.
Barca, though, may try and land 44-cap Lo Celso – who missed the World Cup with injury – on loan instead due to their financial struggles. More

Both times his exit was blocked because PSG were unwilling to sell after signing the winger for a world record £198million transfer fee.

The club have told Neymar he is free to leave and have encouraged him to find a club.
His preference is a move to Barcelona and he has hired super agent Pini Zahavi to help broker the move.
Zahavi is a close friend of Barca president Joan Laporta according to Sport.
Given Barcelona’s delicate financial situation it is unlikely that any transfer would be permanent.
But given PSG’s need to get the striker off the wage bill a loan move could be an option.
Neymar is also willing to lower his wages in order to get his dream move back to Barcelona this summer. More

But their financial issues and concerns Messi had about returning to the spotlight made the move impossible, leaving the club legend to choose America as his next destination.
In response, Barca said a statement which read: “President Laporta understood and respected Messi’s decision to want to compete in a league with fewer demands, further away from the spotlight and the pressure he has been subject to in recent years.
“Both Joan Laporta and Jorge Messi also agreed to work together to promote a proper tribute from Barca fans to honour a footballer who has been, is, and always will be beloved by Barca.”
But fans reacted furiously as one said: “That Barcelona statement was so unnecessary and disrespectful.”

One raged: “This is low from Barcelona.

Barcelona have already expressed an interest in signing him, but the club’s current financial state could prove to be a stumbling block.
The La Liga giants would have to sell several first-team players in order to fund the transfer, otherwise the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner – who is said to be eager to return to his former club – will be forced to look elsewhere.

And according to The Athletic, David Beckham’s Inter Miami is another potential destination.
The Florida-based side are currently working with Major League Soccer to solidify details surrounding the potential signing of Messi.

An anonymous source claims MLS executives have already been informed that the Argentina captain will choose either Barcelona or Inter Miami as his next club – he does not want to join Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema in Saudi Arabia.
Adidas, Apple and MLS are all hoping to entice Messi to the United States this summer.
Adidas – one of the league’s largest corporate sponsors – have reportedly proposed a profit-sharing agreement, meaning the forward would receive a cut of any increase in profits resulting from his MLS involvement.
MLS and Apple have also discussed offering Messi a share of the revenue generated by new subscribers to the MLS Season Pass, the league’s streaming package on Apple TV+.

In addition to these commercial proposals, MLS chiefs are understood to be willing to offer Messi the option to purchase a percentage of a team in the league upon his retirement.
However, the forward is keen on the prospect of a fairytale return to Barcelona.
Messi’s father and agent, Jorge, held talks with Barcelona president Joan Laporta on Monday morning to discuss the possibility of a free transfer.
After the meeting, the 65-year-old admitted that his son is eager to return to the Nou Camp.
He said: “Messi wants to return to Barca and I would love for him to come back. It is an option.”
Messi joined Barcelona’s world renowned La Maisa academy at the age of 13 in 2000.
After progressing through the ranks, he signed his first professional contract five years later and became a regular name in the first team.
He went on to make 778 appearances for the La Liga giants, scoring 672 goals and assisting 303 in the process.
The Argentina international was forced to leave Barcelona in 2021 due to the club’s financial state, so he joined PSG in a £25million transfer. More
