Despite winning 13 trophies at PSG he has never established himself as the star man of the team, and has instead been overshadowed by Kylian Mbappe and Messi.
Last year, Neymar told Brazil legend Ronaldo on the Fenomenos Podcast that he “tried everything” to return to Barcelona in the summer of 2019.
Xavi’s comments have shut down any last notion of a return to the Catalan club but the Brazilian has suitors in the form of Manchester United and Chelsea.
French outlet L’Equipe claim negotiations have taken place between Neymar’s team and United with the forward’s preference being to join the Manchester club.
And Chelsea owner Todd Boehly has long been a fan of Neymar, reportedly holding a meeting to sign him back in February. More

But their financial issues and concerns Messi had about returning to the spotlight made the move impossible, leaving the club legend to choose America as his next destination.
In response, Barca said a statement which read: “President Laporta understood and respected Messi’s decision to want to compete in a league with fewer demands, further away from the spotlight and the pressure he has been subject to in recent years.
“Both Joan Laporta and Jorge Messi also agreed to work together to promote a proper tribute from Barca fans to honour a footballer who has been, is, and always will be beloved by Barca.”
But fans reacted furiously as one said: “That Barcelona statement was so unnecessary and disrespectful.”

One raged: “This is low from Barcelona.
“Considering they are talking about their best player in club history. Don’t patronise his decision. He can do what he wants.”

Barcelona have already expressed an interest in signing him, but the club’s current financial state could prove to be a stumbling block.
The La Liga giants would have to sell several first-team players in order to fund the transfer, otherwise the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner – who is said to be eager to return to his former club – will be forced to look elsewhere.

And according to The Athletic, David Beckham’s Inter Miami is another potential destination.
The Florida-based side are currently working with Major League Soccer to solidify details surrounding the potential signing of Messi.

An anonymous source claims MLS executives have already been informed that the Argentina captain will choose either Barcelona or Inter Miami as his next club – he does not want to join Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema in Saudi Arabia.
Adidas, Apple and MLS are all hoping to entice Messi to the United States this summer.
Adidas – one of the league’s largest corporate sponsors – have reportedly proposed a profit-sharing agreement, meaning the forward would receive a cut of any increase in profits resulting from his MLS involvement.
MLS and Apple have also discussed offering Messi a share of the revenue generated by new subscribers to the MLS Season Pass, the league’s streaming package on Apple TV+.

In addition to these commercial proposals, MLS chiefs are understood to be willing to offer Messi the option to purchase a percentage of a team in the league upon his retirement.
However, the forward is keen on the prospect of a fairytale return to Barcelona.
Messi’s father and agent, Jorge, held talks with Barcelona president Joan Laporta on Monday morning to discuss the possibility of a free transfer.
After the meeting, the 65-year-old admitted that his son is eager to return to the Nou Camp.
He said: “Messi wants to return to Barca and I would love for him to come back. It is an option.”
Messi joined Barcelona’s world renowned La Maisa academy at the age of 13 in 2000.
After progressing through the ranks, he signed his first professional contract five years later and became a regular name in the first team.
He went on to make 778 appearances for the La Liga giants, scoring 672 goals and assisting 303 in the process.

According to Fichajes, the Spanish boss does not have “absolute confidence” in the Arsenal transfer target to play in the key position.
Neves is said to have agreed on a four-year contract at the Nou Camp, however, the move still relies on Ansu Fati agreeing terms with Wolves.
The club will not be spending any money on signing the Portuguese international as he will be involved in a swap deal that will see highly-rated Fati, 20, move the other way.
Super-agent Jorge Mendes represents both the players and will be handling the negotiations.

Lionel Messi ‘ready to play for Barcelona for FREE’ to secure transfer but LaLiga rules won’t allow it

LIONEL MESSI is ready to play for Barcelona FOR FREE but is being prevented by LaLiga rules, reports suggest. The Argentine superstar, 35, is set to leave Paris Saint-Germain when his contract expires in June.

But LaLiga rules are preventing such a deal from being completedCredit: PA
A number of parties are interested in signing him, namely Inter Miami, clubs in Saudi Arabia and Barcelona.
And according to CBS Sports reporter Ben Jacobs, Messi would “gladly” go back and play at his old stomping ground for free.
However, writing in his column for CaughtOffside, Jacobs revealed La Liga rules would prevent such a transfer from materialising.
He wrote: “Messi would likely and gladly play for free for Barcelona or with a massive pay cut, but this would be deemed as financial manipulation.”

Jacobs then went on to reveal there would likely be outgoings if a deal to bring Messi back could be found, including one of the club’s most valuable stars.
He added: “So Barcelona’s problem is they need a lot of dominos to fall in place to pull off a Messi return, and that may also mean outgoings.
“Ansu Fati could be one casualty even though he wants to stay at the club.”
This could offer a boost to the likes of Manchester United, who have been linked with the Spanish winger in recent months.

But Jacobs believes any deal with Barcelona is “weeks” away from being hashed out, giving Middle Eastern interest a vital advantage.
He concluded: “It’s hard to see Barcelona completing anything in a matter of weeks, and that’s what gives Saudi Arabia confidence.
“A government-backed offer, supported by the Saudi Pro League, has been on the table since April.
“Messi would earn around £320m-per-year [€370m], almost double Cristiano Ronaldo’s salary.
“Many of the same dealmakers that took Ronaldo to Al-Nassr are involved.”
Reports have suggested Messi has been offered an astonishing £1billion package to move to the Saudi league, which would see him DOUBLE Cristiano Ronaldo’s salary in the country.
However, reports elsewhere suggest Inter Miami and Barcelona and concocting a plan which could see Messi sign for David Beckham’s Major League Soccer franchise before heading to Barca on loan.
