Joao Cancelo also signed for the Spanish giants on loan until the end of the season.
In return City tried to sign 16-year-old Lamine Yamal, according to Barcelona board member Enric Masip.
He told Radio Marca: “Lamine Yamal and Balde were in serious danger of leaving this summer because there is a club that tried to poach them.”
But Barca blocked the move from happening and they are now plotting a contract extension for the youngster.

Yamal is set to be offered a three-year deal – the maximum that can be given to a player of his age.
The Spaniard impressed in pre-season for Barca and he has been rewarded for his fine form with minutes for the first-team this season.
He has featured in all four LaLiga games so far and even has two assists.
Barcelona boss Xavi is a big fan of Yamal and predicted a bright future for the teenager.

Crisis club Barcelona have wage bill slashed by £232MILLION which could force giants to sell top stars

CRISIS club Barcelona’s financial issues show no signs of slowing down after another blow from LaLiga bosses. The club have been told that they must cut their wage bill by £232million after having their squad wage cap reduced, according to The Daily Mail.
Xavi will see his spending capped next season – with the club likely having to sell players to comply with LaLiga rulesCredit: AFP
The club’s financial struggles began after misspending the money received for the world record sale of Neymar for £196million in 2017.
They have since faced cost-cutting measure for years, which ultimately saw them lose the likes of Lionel Messi, Jordi Alba, and Sergio Busquets.
Gerard Pique also took a voluntary mid-season retirement last season in order to relieve the club of having to pay his hefty wage packet.
This season the club sold Ousmane Dembele to PSG and Franck Kessie to the Saudi league as well as loaning out Clement Lenglet to Aston Villa and Ansu Fati to Brighton to meet their salary cap.
    READ MORE IN FOOTBALL
But that cap is set to become even tighter, with Barcelona’s wage bill being cut by 50% after been told in February they could spend approximately £558m.
Barcelona’s staff and player costs currently stand at £347m, which leaves the club approximately £115m over their new cap of £232million.
That means the club could be forced to sell a number of players in order to make up the £115m deficit.
Given Fati and Lenglet already find themselves out on loan, they could be the first players to make way.

The club also have sellable assets in the form of Frenkie De Jong, Gavi, Pedri and Ferran Torres.
Barca notably did not spend much this summer, with their high-profile transfers either being frees or loans.
Gundogan was signed on a free, while Joao Felix and Joao Cancelo arrived on loan deals.
Despite this, they faced a reduction in their cap after a late payment of one of their economic levers worth £51million in August 2022.
A comparison with rivals Real Madrid really sheds light on Barcelona’s struggles.
Madrid were put on similar financial measures last season, but have seen their spending cap increased to £627million this time around. More

Barcelona plotting to raid Arsenal for free transfer with chiefs set to repeat Ilkay Gundogan tactic

BARCELONA are looking to repeat their Ilkay Gundogan transfer tactic to grab Arsenal midfielder Jorginho on a free, according to reports. The Italian midfielder’s contract is set to expire next summer where he will be able to move to another club as a free agent.

Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo report that the Catalan side are looking to use the free agency market as a way around the financial issues that have plagued them in recent years.
Barcelona beat Arsenal to the signing of Ilkay Gundogan on a free transfer this summer after identifying him as a long term target.
The Catalan club are now keen on Jorginho as they look for a midfielder that can help control the tempo of the game and maintain posession.
With Jorginho’s contract expiring next summer, Barcelona will be able to approach the midfielder in January to sign a pre-contract at the club.
    READ MORE ON ARSENAL
Arsenal’s signing of Declan Rice has seen Jorginho fall further down the pecking order at Arsenal, but the injury to Thomas Partey could see Arteta rely on the Italian more after the international break.
Jorginho had been linked with a move to Fenerbache in the closing days of the summer window but his agent, Joao Santos moved to quash the rumours.
He told Radio Kiss Kiss Napoli: “This year he stays at Arsenal, then we can’t know what will happen next season.
“For now he is focused on playing two very important competitions such as the Premier and Champions League with the Gunners. Italy is always in our hearts, never say never.

“If there is an Italian team that needs Jorginho and his characteristics we will see what will happen. A possible future for Juve? In modern football you can’t say he will be playing for one team or another.
“We can talk to all the teams looking for a player with his characteristics.”
Jorginho will likely be looking for a move if his playing time at Arsenal does not pick up after Thomas Partey’s injury.
Luciano Spaletti left Jorginho out of his first Italy squad since becoming national team manager last week.
Jorginho has been virtually an ever-present member of the national side since his first call-up in 2016 and will be looking to get back into the squad ahead of next summer’s Euros. More

Barcelona ace Lewandowski in astonishing rant with star at risk of lengthy ban after fuming ‘refs are killing league’

ROBERT LEWANDOWSKI risks being slapped with a lengthy domestic ban after claiming “referees are killing” LaLiga. The former Bayern Munich hitman is two seasons into the Spanish spell of his career, which is seemingly close to coming to an end.

Lewandowski has been nothing but prolific since moving to the Nou Camp, scoring 34 goals and racking up nine assists in 49 appearances.
But the Poland international is far from happy with the state of officiating in Span’s top flight.
The 35-year-old said: “LaLiga is not attractive and attacking enough.
“Referees are killing the league. I didn’t expect Spanish league teams to be this reluctant to play football.”

Lewandowski’s comments could land him in hot water with Spanish footie chiefs.
LaLiga bigwigs began stomping out inflammatory comments on officiating last season.
Valencia skipper Jose Gaya is currently serving a four-match ban for his condemnation of referee Jorge Figueroa for not giving them a penalty in their 2-1 defeat to Osasuna last season.
He said: “It’s what we’ve been dealing with all season, [VAR] should have advised him about a clear penalty, as keeps happening to us this year.

“The referee saw it and well, he didn’t want to call it.”
Former Real Madrid man Sergio Canales was also slapped with a four-game suspension after claiming his 13-second dismissal in Real Betis’ clash with Atletico Madrid last season was premeditated.
If LaLiga bosses follow their new protocol, Lewandowski will likely also be hit with a four-match ban.
The Spaniards’ stamping out of critical comments comes in the wake of Barcelona being charged for alleged payments to the former vice president of the refereeing committee.
Prosecutors in Spain filed corruption charges against the club’s former presidents Sandro Rosell and Josep Maria Bartomeu – as well as ex-executives Oscar Grau and Albert Soler – in March.

I won LaLiga with Lionel Messi at Barcelona but was voted seventh worst transfer – I made ‘unacceptable mistakes’

LIONEL MESSI’s former team-mate Dmytro Chygrynskiy has admitted that he made “unacceptable mistakes” during his time at Barcelona.Chygrynskiy arrived at the Nou Camp in 2009 as Pep Guardiola’s statement signing at the heart of Barcelona’s defence.

But his time in at the club turned out to be a nightmare and he went on to be voted as Bareclona’s seventh worst signing of all time.
The defender had impressed Pep with his ability to pass out from the back when playing for Ukraine side Shakhtar Donetsk which led to Barca paying a then hefty £20million sum for him.
He joined a star-studded side fresh off the back of winning the Treble and included the likes of Messi, Andres Iniesta, Xavi and Yaya Toure.
Reflecting on the transfer in an interview with Spanish outlet Relevo in May, Chygrynskiy said he was struck with a degree of disbelief when he heard of Barca’s interest: “We [Shakhtar and Barcelona] were in the same Champions League group with Sporting and Basel. In Donetsk, we played very well although we lost 1-2 at the end [against Barcelona].
    READ MORE ON MESSI
“After the game, Jordi Cruyff, who was at Metalurg Donetsk at the time, told me that Guardiola was raving about me. The truth is that I never thought it would go any further.”
It was in the summer of 2009 that Chygrynskiy realised that Pep’s interest was very real indeed when the Catalan called him to try and secure his signature.
He said: “The moment when I really saw that it was serious [Barcelona’s interest] was when Guardiola called me while I was in Switzerland for pre-season.
“That’s when I really got ‘scared’. Pep told me: ‘I want you to be Piqué’s partner for many years. Trust me, I like your ball control, your first pass…’. I was in shock.”

Chygrynskiy would go on to make just 14 appearances for the Barcelona first team as he struggled to find a way into a side that contained Gerard Pique, Carles Puyol, Rafael Marquez and Gabriel Milito.
When he did get a chance in the starting XI, his game was often characterised by mistakes and his lack of pace was cruelly exposed in Pep’s high line.
The defender said he has regrets regarding how he spent his time at Barca, and admits to making mistakes.
He said: “I was in too much of a hurry. I put too much pressure on myself. Pep told me: ‘Just do what I ask you to do, don’t overthink.’
“Unfortunately, experience comes with time, not when you’re young. I don’t regret anything, I gave my best. But if I could go back, I would listen more. To Pep, to the physical trainers, to my environment… But I wanted to do everything immediately.
“Now I think about it and it was a great opportunity to learn without rushing from Márquez, Milito, Puyol… but at the same time you have the ambition to play. You’re not satisfied with just being there. You want to be important.”
But instead of biding his time in the squad, Chygrynskiy was keen on a return to Shakhtar and would return to the Ukrainian side after just a year in Catalonia.
Barca were so willing to let him go that they would recoup just £8m of the original £20m transfer fee they paid for him.
He admitted that his time at Barca was a disappointment for him personally and his game was unfortunately full of errors, saying: “It’s Barca. You’re not going to get two, three, or four chances. If you’re not good enough, one year is a long time.
“On a general level, I don’t think I failed, but if we talk about some specific games, yes, I failed. And that’s the price you pay at Barca.”
After leaving the club, Chygrynskiy returned to Shakhtar Donetsk and spent close to five years at the club before signing for Dnipro.
In 2016, he moved to Greece by signing for AEK Athens, where he was until 2021.
Now aged 36, he rejoined Shakhtar for a third stint this summer.
    Read More on The Sun
The club has been decimated by foreign players leaving amidst the Ukraine war but having veterans like Chygrynskiy return has been a huge boost.
Shakhtar currently play their home matches in Poland, like much of the Ukraine league, which has allowed Ukrainian football to start up again during the war with Russia. More

Fans convinced Bernardo Silva is desperate to leave Man City after tiny release clause in new contract is revealed

FOOTBALL fans are convinced that Bernardo Silva remains keen to leave Manchester City despite signing a one-year contract extension. The midfielder’s new deal – which keeps him at the Etihad until June 2026 – includes the addition of a modest release clause.

The Portugal international’s previous deal was due to run out in 2025.
Silva, 29, was heavily linked with Barcelona, and there has also been serious interest from Paris St-Germain and Al-Hilal.
In the end though, Silva has opted to extend his time in Manchester until 2026, which is a big relief for manager Pep Guardiola.
However, new details emerging in light of the official confirmation have revealed the addition of release clause worth just £50million.

And curious fans believe that the relatively small clause offers more uncertainty around his commitment to the Etihad Stadium.

A fourth said: “He definitely wants to make sure he goes to Barca next season”.
Nevertheless, Silva, who joined the club from Monaco in a £43m deal, shared his delight with the extension and hopes to continue making more “great memories” with City.
The winger has been involved in all five Premier League title successes at City under Guardiola since he joined the club in May 2017.
Silva has also lifted two FA Cups, four League Cups and the Champions League in his six years at the club.
Last year, Guardiola described him as “irreplaceable” amid speculation linking him with a move to Barca.
And with Kevin de Bruyne side-lined for up to four months after undergoing hamstring surgery, the City boss will be happy to have retained the services of one of his most creative midfielders.
