      Alistair Brownlee eyeing history by finishing an ironman triathlon under seven hours for first time

      ALISTAIR BROWNLEE is eyeing history – by becoming the quickest Ironman.Inspired by Eliud Kipchoge’s successful 2019 experiment to run a marathon under two hours, triathlon king Brownlee is trying to do the same for the swim-bike-run event.

      On June 5 or 6 at the Dekra Lausitzring race track in Germany, the two-time Olympic champion will attempt to cover a 2.4-mile swim, 112-mile bike ride and 26.2-mile run in under SEVEN HOURS.
      Boffins will only let Brownlee go when the temperature and humidity are right – plus he will have swimsuits and pacemakers for the Sub-Seven project.
      There remains dispute over the official world record in competition – either it’s set by Norwegian Olympic champion Kristian Blummenfelt (7:21:12) or German Jan Frodeno (7:27:53).

      “It feels like lots of plates are spinning but it has been a really fascinating and interesting project to be involved with.”
      Brownlee, who had an ankle injury as he failed to qualify for the Tokyo Games, is planning to do two ironman world champs this year – one in Utah in May and another in Hawaii in October.
      The Paris 2024 Olympics are off the table and his Olympic-distance career is over despite gold at the London 2012 and Rio 2016 Games.
      The tough Yorkshireman, who is sponsored by American Pistachio Growers, said: “The Ironman is better in terms of managing a slightly older, less resilient body. The training for it seem to be working quite well.
      “I’ve had injuries but right now, I’m really good, touch wood, and hopefully it stays that way.
       “The injuries last year were really tough and really I didn’t start doing any kind of proper running until into September.
      “I feel very lucky and am in a really good place now.

      Shocked onlookers in the crowd could barely believe their eyes at the events which unfolded during the Tohopekaliga Tiger Invitational in Kissimmee.
      The stricken athlete has not been identified but the host school claims no Osceola County students were involved.
      According to TMZ, the runner in red and white was leading the race and had been involved in a collision with his assaulter on the previous lap.
      Witnesses report that the man who threw the punch was standing on the track and the runner had previously shoved him out of the way.

      FORMER Germany athletics champion Alexander Lubina has died aged 42.The long-distance runner was involved in an accident in Mallorca, leading to his death.

      According to the Spanish Guardia Civil, Lubina descended a cliff to a cave in Cala Serena but a storm caused high waves which threw the runner against the rocks.
      Divers later salvaged his body from the cave during the night.
      A police spokesman told German outlet Bild: “It is a dangerous place where, unfortunately, there have been several accidents and deaths.”
      Lubina became Germany’s 10,000 metre champion in 2002.

      London Marathon 2022: Date, live stream, TV channel and confirmed runners for biggest race in Britain

      RUNNERS rejoice as they return to the capital for another bumper London Marathon.Both amateur and elite runners will take to the streets of London raising millions for charity along every step of the gruelling 26.2 mile course.

      The 26.2 mile route starts near Blackheath in Greenwich, passing landmarks such as the Cutty Sark, the Shard, Tower Bridge, and the London Eye.
      This year race organisers received more than a quarter of a million applicants, for those that weren’t successful there is a small window to sign up to the virtual London Marathon.
      When is the London Marathon 2022?

      The London Marathon will take place on Sunday, October 2.
      The race begins at 9.30am.
      In 2021, the race was moved to the autumn because of Covid restrictions at the start of the year and the calendar date has been retained in 2022.
      The 2023 London Marathon will return to the traditional calendar slot of April 23.

      RUSSIA and Belarus have been banned from the Olympics – after Britain helped force a screeching U-turn.International Paralympic chiefs had faced a massive international backlash after announcing yesterday athletes from the two nations would be allowed to compete in Beijing this month.

      The conditions were that all competitors from Russia and Belarus would have to take part under the neutral Olympic flag while any medals won would not count in the official table.
      That forced the British Paralympic association to a rethink with other nations joining in.
      Culture Secretary Nadine Dorries also convened a hastily arranged meeting of Western governments to discuss further sporting sanctions against Russia following the invasion of Ukraine.
      And that international pressure has now forced a dramatic change of heart from the International Paralympic Committee which confirmed that Russia and Belarus were no longer allowed to have competitors at the Winter Games.
      IPC President Andrew Parsons said: “At the IPC we are very firm believers that sport and politics should not mix. However, by no fault of its own the war has now come to these Games and behind the scenes many Governments are having an influence on our cherished event.
      “The IPC is a membership-based organisation, and we are receptive to the views of our member organisations.

      The 38-year-old was born in Woodford Green in London on March 20, 1983 and has a younger brother Louis, who was also a keen athlete.
      She quickly realised her sporting talent during her teenage years running for Woodford Green with Essex Ladies when she progressed through the junior ranks and turned pro in 2005.
      Kwayke graduated from the University of Loughborough, with a degree in Politics and Economics

      Unfotunately, the ex-Olympian was forced to withdraw from competitions in 2010 having suffered from Achilles tendon and knee injuries.
      However, Kwayke reached the semi-finals in the 2011 World Championships in Daegu, South Korea, and became the 100m women’s British champion that same year.
      Unfortunately, 2012 was not such a good year.
      Jeanette failed to qualify for the London Olympic Games due to another injury but she won the British 60m indoor title to make up for it.

      But she appointed Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in the 2021 birthday honours list.
      What does she do now?
      Since Jeanette declared retirement from the sport, she has presented for Sky Sports, Channel 5 and the BBC which includes an hourly long show on BBC Radio London every Saturday called The Women’s Sports Show.
      The former British champion has also covered Olympic sport, European Games and the Commonwealth Games.
      Jeanette has worked for Channel 4 and has most recently featured on the One Show.
      In 2017, the sprinter published the Children’s book, Femi The Fox which featured on BBC Africa.

      JAPAN curling skipper Satsuki Fujisawa has revealed the inspirational message on her hand that’s helped to set up a Winter Olympics final against Team GB.Fujisawa led her side to an 8-6 win over Switzerland in the semis.

      And Japan will now face off against Team GB for gold in Beijing this weekend.
      It is sure to be an epic showdown versus Eve Muirhead’s Scottish stone sisterhood.
      And it has now been revealed that Fujisawa had an uplifting message inked on her hand during the tournament.
      It read: “I’m a good curler. I have confidence. Let’s have fun!”
      Japan will come up against a Team GB side riding high on a tense 12-11 win against reigning champions Sweden.
