Ian Wright urges Arsenal to make big-money transfer for £80m-rated star who is the ‘last piece in the jigsaw’

IAN WRIGHT has urged Arsenal to sign Ivan Toney as he believes the striker is the “last piece in the jigsaw” for the Gunners squad. The Brentford star will not come cheap though as the Bees have slapped an £80million price tag on him.

£80million-rated Toney is currently serving an eight-month suspensionCredit: Alamy
Toney, 27, is currently serving an eight-month suspension for breaching betting regulations.
The forward returned to training last month but is not able to play competitively until January 17.
However, the Bees have rated their star man at £80million with Toney’s contract not due to expire until summer 2025.
But Arsenal legend Wright feels bringing Toney to North London is the key to helping the club take the final step to winning major titles this season.
    READ MORE ON ARSENAL
He said on the Stick to Football podcast by Sky Bet: “You know the thing with the way we play and how we spread goals about last season.
“Yes it took us to a certain place but I don’t think the Toney links will go away.
“I believe that Arsenal in what we’re trying to do now – the margins are so small now – you cannot afford to miss those chances and not win those games.
“The Toney links don’t go away because you can see that’s probably the last bit in the jigsaw.

“It’s obvious for everyone to see that this is the last piece. He will do it if it can be done.”
But Premier League rivals Chelsea, Manchester United and Tottenham may join the race for the Bees main man, according to the Daily Mail.
A great sign for the Gunners is that Toney is keen on a move to the Emirates, meaning they are in prime position to snatch his signature, the report claims.
Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah have led the line for the Gunners this season but have scored just three Premier League goals between them.
And Mikel Arteta is said to be aware of the goal deficiency in the team and claims Toney “ticks a lot of boxes” for the Spaniard despite his hefty price tag.
If the Gunners make the big-money transfer in January this will most definitely affect their summer spending next year.
But Wright’s pal Roy Keane vowed on the podcast that the Gunners need to recruit a striker now to the squad to take the top of the table.
He said: “Arsenal can win the league, but they would need that striker. It’s great when you’re watching a team that can play.” More

Arsenal fans convinced they are triggering Bruno Guimaraes’ release clause after spotting his Instagram antics

And he has become an instant hit among supporters on Tyneside and recently signed a new five-year deal.
Included in the contract is a release clause worth £100million and Gooners have backed Arsenal to match it.
That is because Guimaraes showed his public support for Gabriel Martinelli, who scored the winning goal against Manchester City.
Guimaraes commented “Martishow” on his international team-mate’s Instagram post.

And Gooners let their imagination run wild as one said: “We’re triggering that release clause brother sit tight.”
Another added: “We will trigger your release clause brother.”
Guimaraes – who joined Newcastle from Lyon – has spoken out publicly about Arsenal’s previous interest in him.
He told Globo via GFFN in 2021:  “Arsenal approached my agent, but there was no offer.

“My aim, and I made it clear to Juninho, is to win a title with Lyon. The fans have not had one for a long time.
“We have the Coupe de France, the Europa League and the league. It is difficult with the level that PSG are at, but anything can happen.
“My aim is to win a title here, but I have never hidden my desire to play in the Premier League.”
Guimaraes was unable to lead Lyon to silverware but he contributed to Newcastle’s top four finish last season.
Now Eddie Howe’s side sit eighth and unbeaten in four after a difficult start to the new campaign.

Shakira snubs Barca star ex Pique AGAIN as she confirms shock support for Premier League giants after Waka Waka chant

SHAKIRA has taken another brazen swipe at her ex Gerard Pique by showing her support for a Premier League giant on social media after footie fans remixed her Waka Waka hit.The Colombian pop star took to Instagram to send her encouragement to Arsenal F.C. during a heated match against Bournemouth.

Fans of Arsenal adapted the singer’s trilingual bop Waka Waka, featuring Freshlyground, which served as the official Fifa song for the 2010 World Cup.
Footie fans remixed the hot hit to craft a new chant for the team’s latest signing, Kai Havertz, a former Chelsea forward.
The chant swept through the Vitality Stadium during Arsenal’s epic 4-0 triumph over Bournemouth, earning Shakira’s endorsement.
The 46-year-old took to Instagram to share a video on her story of the cheering and chanting fans while captioning the post “Go Arsenal!” – an apparent dig at her football star ex, Gerard Pique.
    READ MORE ON SHAKIRA
Based on the tune and lyrics to Waka Waka, the Havertz chant goes: “Tsamina mina, eh eh, Waka Waka, eh, eh, sixty million down the drain, Kai Havertz scores again”.
It is yet to be seen whether the chant will stick around throughout the season, but it may become a regular feature at games.
In another display of interest in the football club, Shakira visited the Emirate Stadium for a fixture between Arsenal and Manchester United last month.
The Gunners, under the guidance of Mikel Arteta, faced off against the Red Devils in what was their fourth Premier League game for the season.
    Most read in Football
The tense game saw Alejandro Garnacho score a goal that was later disallowed, and Gabriel Jesus eventually sealed the deal for the Gunners with a goal in injury time at 90 + 11 minutes.
Shakira shared her experience at the Emirates Stadium on Instagram, showing fans the post-match victory celebrations alongside a heart-eyes emoji.
The singer has barely been able to stay out of the headlines with the constant jabs at her ex, a former Spanish World Cup winner.
On October 2, the stunning singer called herself “The Boss” in a horseback photo in a major swipe at Pique.
The star shared a snap of her music video for her latest track El Jefe, seemingly hitting back at the football ace.
She was also spotted on Instagram taking a thinly veiled swipe at her ex as she called him “empty” while sending fans wild with her sultry dance moves.
In the clip, she could be seen lip-syncing her song Copa Vacia while sporting a strappy orange tank top and skintight jeans.
The pair split last year after 12 years together after the footie star came under fire after it was alleged that he cheated on the singer and that she discovered his alleged affair thanks to a jar of strawberry jam.
The cheating claims have not been confirmed but it seems as though the footballer has plans to wed his new beau Clara Chia and is set to announce their engagement, according to Spanish media.
After dropping multiple diss tracks to Pique, Shakira also seems to be moving on, as she’s already been rumoured to be linked to multiple A-listers.
Many have speculated that the Colombian star was dating F1 ace Lewis Hamilton, while others thought she and Hollywood icon Tom Cruise had grown close.
Hamilton and the singer were first spotted when Shakira attended the Miami Grand Prix, where they appeared to share an intimate dinner afterward.
Cruise, 60, was said to have been “flirting” with the Colombian-born singer before she became involved with Hamilton.
Later on in the summer, Shakira brushed off speculation about the potential “love triangle”.
But although Shakira seems to be doing well following the messy split from Pique, she has recently come under criticism for a slew of actions that have left fans disappointed.
She got into hot water after she was spotted not doing anything when a security guard grabbed a fan by the neck who was trying to get close to her.
According to local reports, the incident occurred in the first week of October at a Miami hotel during Latin Music Week 2023.
Many viewers who saw the footage of the “assault” said she should have stepped in for the fan after questions were raised as to whether the security guard had overstepped his professional boundaries.
In recent days testimonies have also come forward about Shakira’s behaviour in the workplace after a dancer, Jenni Garcia, said the singer didn’t pay her for 12 performances.
“She took me out of my dressing room and I was topless. She also went into our bathroom because hers was broken and the security staff took us out.

“When she came out she didn’t even thank us. I spoke to security to get them to let us in,” she told YouTube channel La Saga.
But despite her claims, Garcia described Shakira as a “great artist” but said she has “lost respect” for her following her experiences.

A melee ensued as members of both teams got involvedCredit: SKY SPORTS
The incident was sparked by Walker’s furious snubbing over Jover’s offer of a post-match handshake, which the set-piece specialist didn’t bite his tongue over.
An angry Walker took umbrage with something the German-born Frenchman said and decided to square up to him, with Erling Haaland backing him up.

A minor scuffle ensued as members of both teams intervened but cooler heads eventually prevailed, although Walker was still the picture of anger as he trudged off the pitch.
Haaland also had to be held back before eventually being led down the tunnel.

FA chiefs have decided NOT to take any action against Walker over the incident.
Gunners boss Mikel Arteta said he “didn’t see” what sparked the incident, which City chief Pep Guardiola refused to be drawn on.
“I know what happened, but I don’t want to say anything,” the Spaniard said. “They [Arsenal] know it.”
Arsenal ran out 1-0 winners thanks to a deflected strike from substitute Gabriel Martinelli in the 84th minute.

Gabriel Martinelli left Arsenal staff ‘trembling’ before winning goal against Man City, Mikel Arteta reveals

But the Brazilian forward more than paid off the risk to play him, scoring the only goal of the game with a deflected strike in the 86th minute.
Arteta revealed after the game that his medical staff were not best pleased at the risk of playing Martinelli.
Arteta was asked how important it was to get Martinelli back in the team and said: “First of all he was great. And thank you because he’s made a huge effort to be in this game.
“Nobody believed that he was going to be available but he kept saying ‘I’m gonna be there.’

“All the medical staff were trembling. But he was there and we needed him because Lenadro Trossard was injured after 30 minutes and he was excellent.”
Arteta was then asked if the win sent out a message that Manchester City weren’t going to waltz to the title and replied: “Well it certainly sends a message to our team that if we keep doing what we’re doing and stay humble and work hard then we’re a very difficult team to beat.”
Arsenal’s victory puts them joint top of the table going into the international break behind rivals Tottenham Hotspur.
The two have the same number of points but Spurs have scored more goals under the stewardship of Ange Postecoglou.

Arsenal will be aided by the fact that Bukayo Saka and William Saliba have been able to pull out of their international team’s fixtures as they continue to nurse injuries.
Given tonight’s injury to Leandro Trossard, he too, might withdraw from the Belgium squad.
The Gunners will return to action when they take on Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on October 21.
They then take on Sevilla three days later at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan Stadium. More

Erling Haaland and Kyle Walker caught up in furious clash with Arsenal backroom staff after dramatic loss at Emirates

MANCHESTER CITY stars Kyle Walker and Erling Haaland were involved in a furious bust-up after the champions were condemned to back-to-back defeats for the first time in almost five years.Gunners coach Nicolas Jover enraged the duo as they were walking off at The Emirates, a little after Gabriel Martinelli’s 86th-minute winner earned Mikel Arteta his first ever win over City.

Erling Haaland and Kyle Walker clashed with Arsenal’s backroom staff
Haaland appeared to have locked horns with Arsenal’s set-piece coach Nicolas Jover
The incident took place at full-time when the City players went to the tunnel
The win moved Arsenal level on points with north London rivals Tottenham at the top of the table, trailing Ange Postecoglou’s side on goals scored.
City are two points off the pace but their frustration boiled over at the end when walker squared up to Arsenal set-piece coach Jover.
The Gunners’ dead-ball expert, who joined the club from City in July 2021, said something in the direction of the City bench which enraged Walker, who stormed over to confront Jover supported by Haaland.
A number of City staff and coaches then piled in before Arsenal’s security staff split the two camps and ushered Walker and Haaland down the tunnel – both still clearly upset.

Unused substitute Jack Grealish also had to be guided down the tunnel and away from trouble while injured Arsenal man Bukayo Saka moved to calm down Jover.
The German-born French assistant was booked during Arsenal’s game earlier this season and is known for being more than happy to share his opinion on the touchline.
City boss Pep Guardiola said: “I know what happened but I don’t want to say anything. They know it.”
Asked if he was happy with Arsenal’s conduct, the City boss added: “Yeah, absolutely.”

Arsenal boss Arteta claimed that he did not see the altercation.
Despite falling to back-to-back defeats for the first time since December 2018, Guardiola is relaxed about his side’s chances of winning an unprecedented fourth consecutive Premier League title.
City have come from behind in the League before, Arsenal were eight points clear at one point last season, and Guardiola is confident it can be done again.
The Spanish boss said: “No team has ever won four in a row. We are in October. Sometimes it is good going behind, it is not the first time. Last year we were much more behind than here.
“The season is long, people will come back and we play against Brighton and [Manchester] United. Continue. Now we have two defeats in a row and then we have the internationals.
“Hopefully they come back fit and then we go again. Maybe it is a little bit better to be there and see what we have to do to catch them. We know exactly what we have to do and we do it.” More
