Arsenal ‘join Man Utd and Liverpool in transfer race’ for 18-year-old Sporting Lisbon Nuno Mendes

ARSENAL have reportedly joined Manchester United and Liverpool in the race for Sporting Lisbon’s 18-year-old Nuno Mendes.
Portuguese outlet O Jogo reports the North London club are the most interested Premier League side in the player.

    2

Nuno Mendes is attracting Premier League interest
The Gunners face competition from AC Milan for the Portuguese starlet, with the Serie A side reportedly launching a bid worth £13.5million.
But Sporting are understood to be holding out for a much bigger sum – something that could derail Mikel Arteta’s pursuit of the left-back.
With Mendes contracted until 2025, Sporting are not forced to sell up.

And are waiting for any interested party to activate the defender’s £40.5m release clause before he is allowed to leave.
Although they may accept a slightly lower fee, clubs are currently way off their lofty valuation of the Portugal youth international.
Arsenal are looking to sign a back-up for Scot Kieran Tierney.

Mendes can also play at centre-back and his versatility will be a great asset within the Arsenal squad as the fixtures pile up.
He impressed after making nine senior appearances for Sporting in 2019-20 and is considered the best left-back in Europe for his age group.
Liverpool were thought to have made contact about a move for the player earlier in the window.
But Jurgen Klopp opted to instead sign Greek ace Kostas Tsimikas for £12m.
While United are showing some interest in purchasing competition for Luke Shaw and Brandon Williams at left-back.
And a deal would be made easier by the fact Mendes is believed to be represented by Miguel Pinho – Bruno Fernandes’ agent.

Now the forward will be hoping to score more than the one goal he did for the Imps after heading back to the third tier for the upcoming campaign.
John-Jules is highly-rated by the Gunners after joining their youth set-up aged eight.
The ace is already an England Under-18 international and he has featured for Arsenal’s first-team during friendly matches.
He scored against Al-Nasr Dubai SC during their mid-season visit to the Middle East in March 2019.
John-Jules was also named in the squad for the Premier League clash with Chelsea and an FA Cup third round tie with Leeds.
He was also involved for Arsenal’s Community Shield victory over Liverpool last month.

Before going to Lincoln, last term he scored eight times in 13 appearances for Arsenal’s U18s and U23s combined.

His transfer did not go through in time for him to feature in Tuesday’s EFL Trophy game against Bradford.
He could make his Doncaster debut against MK Dons this weekend. More

Arsenal considering £20m Emiliano Martinez transfer bid from Aston Villa and want Brentford’s Raya as replacement

ASTON VILLA have launched a £20million bid for Arsenal keeper Emiliano Martinez – with David Raya lined up as a replacement.
Villa already submitted a bid for the Argentine, but fell short of the Gunners valuation.

    2

Aston Villa have launched a £20m bid for Arsenal keeper Emiliano MartinezAccording to The Athletic, they have submitted a second offer which is said to be closer to the £20m Arsenal want for Martinez.
The 28-year-old is seeking a move away from the Emirates having not been promised the No1 jersey next season.
After German Bernd Leno, 28, suffered an injury in June, Martinez filled in between the posts until the delayed end of last season.

But despite impressing during that spell, it is understood he has not been guaranteed his place back in the starting line up.
With Martinez wanting regular football it has prompted Villa to make a move.
Tom Heaton is out with a knee injury and will miss the start of the campaign, leaving the club in need of a stopper.
Arsenal would also be left searching for a replacement to provide back up and competition to Leno.

Brentford’s David Raya is an Arsenal transfer target

It is claimed Brentford’s Raya is Arteta’s preferred option.
But the Championship side – who lost in the play-off final last year – are adamant he is not for sale.
Martinez’s hope of leaving for a new challenge rest on Arsenal finding another goalkeeper themselves.

Arsenal considering £21.5m Lucas Torreira transfer offer by Torino with Arteta desperate for cash to fund Partey move

ARSENAL reportedly received a £21.5million bid for Lucas Torreira from Torino and are considering the offer.
According to Spanish journalist Alvaro Levrero, the Gunners need quick cash to fund a move for Thomas Partey.

    1

Lucas Torreira could leave Arsenal for Torino
And they may accept the offer on the table from Torino after they gazumped Serie A rivals Fiorentina.
Fiorentina had offered to pay £5.3m to take Uruguayan midfielder Torreira, 24, on loan.
But the deal was said to have included a mandatory buy clause.
However, the up front fee on offer from Torino is a far more attractive proposition for Mikel Arteta.
The Spanish boss is hoping to finally snare Partey from Atletico Madrid after months courting the player.
Partey reportedly rejected a new contract at Atleti – leaving the Gunners in pole position to get a deal over the line.
Diego Simeone’s side had hoped to convince the 27-year-old to put pen to paper on a deal that would have eradicated his £45m release clause.

But Partey appears to be leaving with Marca reporting Simeone has already lined up a replacement in Espanyol’s Marc Roca.

And if Arsenal accept Torino’s offer for Torreira, Arteta will have nearly half the funds needed to add the steel of defensive midfielder Partey.
The North London side are happy to let Torreira go after securing a second loan spell for Dani Ceballos.
The former Sampdoria ace looks set for a return to Italy after failing to nail down a regular spot in the Arsenal XI – making just 17 league starts last season.

Man Utd and Arsenal transfer target Samuel Umtiti could leave Barcelona for FREE and have contract RIPPED UP

Umtiti, 26, has slipped behind countryman Clement Lenglet in the Catalan giants’ pecking order.
Persistent injuries have hampered his progress at the Nou Camp.
The centre-back managed just 13 LaLiga appearances last season as Barca surrendered the league title to El Clasico rivals Real Madrid.
He also tested positive for Covid-19 before the club’s 8-2 Champions League humiliation at the hands of Bayern Munich last month.

And now is the latest player to be cast aside by new Barca boss Ronald Koeman.
The former Holland chief has already offloaded Ivan Rakitic and told Luis Suarez and Arturo Vidal they are NOT in his future plans.
Rakitic took a massive pay-cut to rejoin Sevilla while Juventus are poised to sign Suarez – IF he passes an Italian language test.
And Umtiti could also be shown the exit door with a number of Premier League clubs interested including Arsenal and Man Utd.

The Red Devils reportedly received the green light to sign Umtiti earlier this year as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer bids to find a long-term partner for Harry Maguire.
It was previously suggested Umtiti’s availability could spark a three-way tussle between the Gunners, West Ham and Everton.
And the report from Spain states there is talk he could be offered up to old side Lyon as a ploy to lure former United flop Memphis Depay to the Blaugrana.
However, it is unclear if Lyon are keen to have Umtiti back in their ranks.
The player is desperate to get back in the France team for the delayed Euro 2020 tournament next year.
He missed the cut for Didier Deschamps’ squad for the Nations League games against Sweden and Croatia.
And Umtiti needs game time if he is to add to his 31 international caps.

Chelsea and Arsenal transfer boost as West Ham refuse to meet £20m valuation for Brentford’s Said Benrahma

CHELSEA and Arsenal received a transfer boost after West Ham reportedly refused to meet Brentford’s £20million valuation of Said Benrahma.
David Moyes have been chasing the Bees attacker all summer as they look to bolster their options going forward.

    1

But according to The Telegraph, the Hammers are unwilling to match Brentford’s asking price.
That is despite the Championship side dropping their demand from £30m to £20m and the East Londoners selling Grady Diangana for £18m.
West Ham fans – and captain Mark Noble – were fuming on Friday night when the club confirmed the exciting young prospect had gone.

The report adds that West Ham are hoping to raise funds from selling the likes of Felipe Anderson and Manuel Lanzini.

To make matters worse, they are still paying off part of the club-record £45m spent on Sebastien Haller.
And West Ham’s reluctance to stump up the cash for Benrahma could spell good news for two other London clubs.
Both Chelsea and Arsenal are tracking the Algerian winger, whose stock rose considerably last season.
He scored 17 and assisted ten in 46 appearances as Brentford narrowly missed out on promotion to the Premier League.

Mikel Arteta and Frank Lampard will know he is comfortable on both wings and could provide a fine alternative out wide in the upcoming season.
Leicester and Newcastle have also been linked with Benrahma, as have promoted Leeds, while Aston Villa have cooled their interest to pursue his team-mate Ollie Watkins.

Leeds closing in on £39m double transfer swoop for Rodrigo and Sam Greenwood

LEEDS are reportedly on the verge of a double striker acquisition in Rodrigo Moreno and Sam Greenwood.
Fans of the newly-promoted club will be eager to see the Spanish international in action when he completes his tantalising £36million move.

But he is not the only new arrival expected at Elland Road, with Arsenal youngster Greenwood also on the way.
According to the Telegraph, the pair will cost a combined £39m and could even be announced today.
Greenwood, 18, is said to command an initial fee of £1.5m with a further £1.5m in add-ons.

While being watched by the likes of AC Milan and Manchester United, the forward has impressed in the Gunners’ youth setup.

Having broken out with Sunderland’s academy before a 2018 switch to Arsenal, he has scored 19 times in 47 appearances in the Under-18s Premier League.
The signing will fit the theme of Leeds’ other summer acquisitions, including Joel Gelhardt, Charlie Allen and Cody Drameh, as young talent remains high on the club’s agenda.
But it is Rodrigo who will be expected to have a major, instant impact on the first-team’s top-flight return.
The Brazil-born forward came through Real Madrid’s academy and even has Premier League experience from a loan stint with Bolton almost a decade ago.

Since then, he has turned himself into one of Europe’s best finishers.
A slight drop-off last campaign coincided with Valencia’s huge off-field problems but previous years saw him hit 19 and 15 goals, respectively.
And, as the first genuinely new face to bolster Marcelo Bielsa’s senior squad since gaining promotion, the 29-year-old can be expected to make a strong case for starting Leeds’ opening day trip to Liverpool in just over two weeks’ time.
