Arsenal ace Mark McGuinness joins Ipswich on season-long loan deal with Arteta wanting defender to get first-team action

ARSENAL youngster Mark McGuiness has joined Ipswich on loan for the season.
The defender, 19, put pen to paper on a temporary switch on Tuesday.

Mikel Arteta has high hopes for the Ireland Under-19 international and featured him in pre-season this year, scoring against MK Dons.
He was captain and man of the match for the U21s in the EFL Trophy victory over Ipswich earlier in September.
But Arsenal are keen for the 6ft 4ins centre-back, back fit after a lengthy spell out last season, to get first-team football under his belt so allowed him to join the Tractor Boys for the 2020-21 League One campaign.
McGuiness, who will wear the No2 at Portman Road, said: “The lads have started really well, so I know I’ll have to impress and I won’t just walk into the team, but I’m up for the challenge.
“I hope that Ipswich get promoted – I think that’s the main goal for everyone.
“The experience here could be invaluable to me. I want to make the most of it and help the club achieve what it wants.
“I feel like I’ve been ready to go out on loan for a while, but I picked up a few injuries last season unfortunately. This year I’m ready to push on.

“I love to head the ball! Being my size I should be a threat in both boxes really.

“I like to be the leader and take control. That’s always been a part of my game that I’ve excelled at.
“My main priority is defending, I like to keep the ball out of the net.
“But I know this is a ball playing team and being at Arsenal for nine years that’s something in my game as well.”

Arsenal transfer of £13.4m rated defender Shkodran Mustafi to either Lazio or Napoli ‘gaining momentum’

ARSENAL defender Shkodran Mustafi is reportedly a transfer target for Serie A sides Lazio and Napoli.
The Gunners are open to offers for the German who has just one year left on his deal at the Emirates.

Calciomercato claims Lazio have identified Mustafi as a priority for the centre of their defence, with Arsenal willing to sell for around £13million.
The report states that asking price could even drop to £11million.
Napoli are also interested in Mustafi, as well as his Arsenal team-mate Sokratis, as a potential replacement for Manchester City target Kalidou Koulibaly.
The biggest obstacle in any deal could be the World Cup winner’s salary.

Mustafi is thought to earn around £4million per year in north London.
Lazio are reportedly willing to offer the 28-year-old a five-year deal worth £2.3million per season plus bonuses.
Mustafi featured heavily for Mikel Arteta’s side last season following their switch to a 3-4-3 formation before a knee injury ruled him out of the FA Cup final.

He is still recuperating and has yet to feature for Arsenal this season.
Mustafi previously played in Serie A for Sampdoria between 2012 and 2014.

The Gunners added centre-backs William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes to their squad in the off-season, hence their willingness to let Mustafi go.
Arsenal are hoping to raise money through sales to fund a move for Lyon midfielder Houssem Aouar.
The north London outfit have already sold goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez to Aston Villa for £20million, with several other names linked to the exit door.

Arsenal predicted to suffer bleak £120m losses if fans don’t return as supporters’ trust warns things could get worse

ARSENAL have been warned to expect losses of over £120million if football remains behind closed doors.
Few clubs make as much money as the Gunners do on a matchday – with that income completely lost since the coronavirus pandemic began.

In 2018-19, Arsenal made £96million in matchday revenue alone, a huge proportion of their total £394m turnover.
Such a reliance on fans coming to Emirates Stadium left the club particularly vulnerable to the circumstances they now find themselves in.
Arsenal Supporters’ Trust have delved into the figures to estimate potential losses of £120m if the situation does not improve.
Matchday revenue for the protracted 2019-20 campaign is down to around £77m after the final weeks of the season went behind closed doors.
And the Trust reckon Arsenal will only be able to make £20m in matchday revenue in 2020-21, on the basis stadium capacity is restricted to 25 per cent.
This would set the North London club on course for a £44m loss in 2019-20 and £83m in the current campaign – totalling losses around £120m.
Premier League clubs are pushing for fans to return to stadiums but a second coronavirus wave threatens to slam the door on test events.

Furthermore, the reality could be even worse with these estimates predicated on TV money remaining steady throughout the new season, as well as commercial and retail income.

Arsenal have one of the biggest wage bills in Europe
The predictions are just the latest stark warning of football’s financial outlook from the very top of the game, right down to grassroots level.
Arsenal have already made 55 staff members redundant amid the pandemic, with the bulk of the squad agreeing a wage cut.
However, Mikel Arteta has been able to revamp his squad with Gabriel Magalhaes and Pablo Mari arriving for a combined £35m.
Willian signed a three-year deal worth £220,000-a-week last month before Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang extended his contract to reach £350,000-a-week.
The club have recouped over £20m from the sales of Emiliano Martinez and Sam Greenwood, with owner Stan Kroenke refinancing the debt accrued when building Emirates Stadium.

The Trust summarised: “Estimated losses of £44m this year and £80m next year.
“And if fans don’t return soon and more broadcast contracts see reductions it could be much worse.
“Arsenal still run a bloated wage bill (well over £200m a year) and carry significant debts – both player installments still owed to other clubs and to KSE (stadium loan legacy). We do not know yet what interest, if any, is being charged to the club.
“Potential losses of at least £120m (possibly £150m) over 2020 & 2021 demonstrate why Arsenal have to be so careful in transfer market.”

Mikel Arteta ‘took notes about Houssem Aouar in corridor’ in 2018 as Arsenal close in on Lyon midfielder

MIKEL ARTETA reportedly took details about Houssem Aouar after a Champions League match with Manchester City two years ago.
Arsenal are closing in on the 22-year-old but the Spaniard’s interest in the Lyon playmaker stretches back to 2018.

Arteta is desperate to bring the player to North London and has reportedly made him the club’s number one target.
And part of that decision may have been motivated by the quality Aouar showed in front of Arteta, when the Gunners boss was at Manchester City.
Lyon memorably took four points from the Premier League side back in the 2018/19 Champions League group stages.
The Ligue 1 outfit claimed an unlikely scalp at the Etihad, while an Aouar masterclass saw them hold City to 2-2 draw in France.
According to Get French Football News, L’Equipe claim that Pep Guardiola spent a long time congratulating the midfielder after the match.
His assistant at the time, Arteta, also allegedly spent time with Aouar in the corridors of the Parc Olympique Lyonnais stadium.
The report claimed that he praised the Frenchman for his standout showing before taking down some details relating to the youngster.

Two years later Arteta is said to be willing to sell THREE members of Arsenal’s first-team squad in order to get Aouar.

Lucas Torreira, Sokratis Papastathopoulos and Sead Kolasinac have all been tipped to leave North London before next month’s deadline.
Second-choice goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez has already been sold to Aston Villa for £20million.
And Arteta wants to add at least one more top-class signing following the arrivals of Willian and Gabriel Magalhaes.
