Arsenal sign Thomas Partey in last-gasp transfer as Arteta pays £45m Atletico release clause after missing out on Aouar

ARSENAL have completed a dramatic deadline day deal to sign Thomas Partey for £45million.
A combative midfielder, such as Partey or Lyon midfielder Houssem Aouar, has been high on Mikel Arteta’s wish list throughout the transfer window.

But the Gunners’ chances of sealing a deal appeared remote after Aouar committed to his current club for another season.
Serious talk of Ghana international Partey finally arriving then broke on Monday afternoon, with the player reportedly remaining in Spain to complete a quickfire deal.
Arsenal have paid Atletico Madrid his £45million release clause, significantly shortening the time required for negotiations.
Wth the deal signed, new No18 Partey is expected to fly to Turkey to join his Ghana national team squad.
Atletico confirmed the deal after his transfer fee was received.
The Spanish club stated that the paperwork was completed at 10.28pm UK time, just over half an hour before the deadline.
Mikel Arteta told the Arsenal website that he was thrilled to seal the transfer after months of monitoring the player.

He said: “We have been watching Thomas for a while, so we’re now delighted to add such a high quality player to our squad.
“He is a dynamic midfielder with great energy. He brings a lot of experience from a top club that has competed at the highest level in La Liga and the Champions League for several years.

With his all-round game and positive aggressive style, he will be a brilliant addition to our squad.

“We’re very impressed with his attitude and his approach to the game. He’s an intelligent footballer and we’re looking forward to him integrating into our system and contributing to the progress we’re building at the moment at the club.”
Technical director Edu added: “Thomas has all the right attributes to be a top player for Arsenal.
“He is a leader on and off the pitch and he is exactly the kind of player and person we want at the club. We already feel like we know Thomas very well based on the work we have done analysing his performances closely in recent times.
“With his all-round game and positive aggressive style, he will be a brilliant addition to our squad. We’ve made a strong start to the season and we want to continue to build on this with Thomas now part of our club.”
The deal comes just after the club were finally able to shift Lucas Torreira and Matteo Guendouzi off their loan bill.
Torreira heads in the opposite direction, joining Atletico Madrid on a season-long loan.

Partey showed his excitement for the move on Instagram

Arsenal confirmed in a statement: “Everyone at Arsenal wishes Lucas well during his time with Atletico Madrid this season.”
French midfielder Guendouzi, an outcast after falling out with Arteta, has left for Hertha Berlin on a loan deal of his own.
Dani Ceballos, Pablo Mari and Cedric Soares have all stayed on at Emirates Stadium after signing last year, with Willian, Gabriel Magalhaes and Runar Alex Runarsson all joining in a busy window.

Arsenal duo Lucas Torreira and Matteo Guendouzi seal loan transfers away to Atletico Madrid and Hertha Berlin

LUCAS TORREIRA has followed Matteo Guendouzi out of the exit door at the Emirates on loan for the season.
The midfielders dropped down the pecking order with Mohamed Elneny returning to form and Dani Ceballos returning from Real Madrid for another season.

And with Arsenal chasing Thomas Partey from Atletico Madrid, the club allowed Torreira and Guendouzi to head out on loan.
Uruguayan Torreira, 24, has headed the other way by joining Atletico for the 2020-21 season.
The Spanish giants have the option to make the transfer permanent at the end of the season.
Guendouzi, meanwhile, will spend the campaign in the Bundesliga with Hertha Berlin.
The pair both signed for the Gunners in 2018 under Unai Emery.
Only three players made more appearances for the club than Guendouzi in his first season in North London.
But the 21-year-old Frenchman fell out with Mikel Arteta last season.

He has not featured since his meltdown at Brighton on June 20, Arsenal’s second match after the restart.

Like his fellow midfielder, Torreira was not included by Arteta in any of their opening seven matches of this term.
Arsenal triggered Ghana star Partey’s £45million release clause before finalising personal terms and contract details as the 11pm deadline loomed.

Arsenal set to sign Omar Rekik from Hertha Berlin in £900k transfer and Malmo’s Nikolaj Duus Moller for £430k

ARSENAL look set to wrap up two further deadline-day deals by signing Omar Rekik and Nikolaj Duus Moller, according to reports.
The Gunners are desperately trying to get their final pieces of business done before the transfer window closes at 11pm.

A late swoop for Thomas Partey is on the cards with Mikel Arteta hoping to land the Ghana midfielder.
But Rekik and Moller could arrive for a fraction of the price.
According to journalist Rik Elfrink, defender Rekik will complete a £900,000 transfer to the Gunners – if they can beat the race against time.

The plan is apparently for him to train with the first team but with plenty of other centre-backs already, game time would be severely limited and joining the Under-23s seems more likely.
Hertha Berlin and Arsenal have agreed a deal but no medical has yet taken place.
The two clubs have already been in talks as Matteo Guendouzi joined the German outfit on loan.

And Rekik could be followed through the door at the Emirates by another 18-year-old with Malmo’s Moller a target.
Aftonbladet report the Gunners are ready to pay the Swedish outfit around £430,000 as they offer the 6ft 4ins attacker a four-year contract.

Striker Moller joined Malmo aged 12 and is seen as one of the hottest young prospects in Sweden.
Dubbed as a young Zlatan Ibrahimovic due to his strong technical ability, he said of himself: “I play with few strikes, help the team, good with the head, strong, never lose duels and difficult to take the ball away from.”
Moller would link up with the Gunners academy should the transfer get over the line.

Arsenal in Thomas Partey transfer move after meeting £45m Atletico Madrid release clause

ARSENAL have reportedly made a last-gasp bid for Thomas Partey.
Goal claim the Gunners have finally made their move for the Atletico Madrid midfielder after losing out on Houssem Aouar.

    2

Gunners boss Mikel Arteta has been desperately chasing a new central midfielder this summer.
Arsenal registered an interest in both Partey and Aouar as early as June.
However, after balking at 27-year-old Partey’s £45million release clause at Atletico Madrid, Arteta turned his attention to Frenchman Aouar.
Yet Lyon soon turned down the Gunners offer of £32.6m AND outcast Matteo Guendouzi to potentially leave Arsenal without the possibility of bringing in any attacking reinforcements.
The Londoners have now performed another U-turn with a dramatic deadline day bid for Partey but face a race against the clock.
Guendouzi now looks set to join Hertha Berlin while Lucas Torreira is on the verge of joining Atletico on a temporary deal with an option to buy.
Although Diego Simeone’s side need to shift a midfielder before they sign the Uruguayan and as a result, Arsenal could finally get their man.

Spanish football expert Guillem Balague has claimed the Gunners will pay Partey’s full release clause and won’t agree a cut-price deal.

Arsenal’s legal team are thought to be at the club’s London Colney training ground working to get the transfer done, with his medical due to take place in Madrid soon, as per football.london.
Samuel Zigah, who is the Ghanian’s PR officer, has sent fans into overdrive after tweeting an emoji of an hourglass.
The same cryptic hint was used by Arsenal captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang when announcing his new contract at the club.

Arsenal’s spark into action may have also been caused by rivals Chelsea, who were said to have registered a late interest in Partey.
The Blues had hoped to take advantage of their London rivals’ dithering with yet another big-money signing this summer.
Frank Lampard had eyed Partey as the perfect replacement for another Arsenal target – Jorginho – while he is also being linked with Declan Rice.

Ambitious Hertha Berlin eye Mario Gotze free transfer plus Matteo Guendouzi, Moussa Sissoko and Marko Grujic on loan

HERTHA BERLIN are reportedly closing in on the free transfer for Mario Gotze whilst also in talks with a trio of Premier League stars.
BILD claim that the Bundesliga side are desperate for midfielders and are discussing loans for Matteo Guendouzi, Moussa Sissoko and Marko Grujic.

The report adds that Hertha has been making Gotze wait to decide whether he is still needed depending on their other deadline day incomings.
The German World Cup Winner has been without a club since leaving Borussia Dortmund at the end of the season.
The 27-year-old returned to Signal Iduna Park from Bayern Munich in 2016 – but fitness and health problems have prevented him from making the same kind of impact the second time around.

He was limited to just five league appearances last term with Dortmund also said to be unimpressed by his lifestyle off the pitch.
Gotze has held talks over a return to Bayern but neither Hertha nor the Bundesliga champions need to agree a deal before Germany’s 5pm deadline because he is a free agent.
That added time will give both sides the option to determine whether the playmaker is needed following other transfer activity.
The longer Gotze goes without a new club will also give Hertha a stronger negotiating position to lower the £9million salary he was earning at Dortmund.

BILD claim Arsenal outcast Guendouzi completed a medical with Bruno Labbadia’s side on Monday ahead of his loan move.

Liverpool midfielder Marko Grujic could seal a third return to Hertha
The midfielder, 21, is looking for an escape route out of the Emirates after being frozen out by manager Mikel Arteta.
He has not featured for the club since lashing out at Brighton’s Neal Maupay in June.
Guendouzi had originally turned down a switch to Hertha before performing a U-turn on his future in recent weeks.
He could be followed by Sissoko from rivals Spurs with the Berlin outfit also discussing the possibility of a season-long loan.
The 31-year-old played the full 90 minutes as Tottenham thumped Manchester United 6-1 at Old Trafford.
Yet Jose Mourinho’s busy transfer activity could mean the north Londoners move on Sissoko’s £80,000-a-week wages to balance the books.
And lastly, Hertha are rivaling West Ham and Southampton for Liverpool’s forgotten man Grujic.

The 24-year-old midfielder became Jurgen Klopp’s first signing when joining from Red Star Belgrade in a £5.1m deal in January 2016.
The Serbian spent last season on loan with Hertha, playing 29 Bundesliga games and providing four goals and one assist in that period.
He revealed last year that if Liverpool ever chose to sell him, he would choose to return to his former loan side.

Arsenal offered Lyon £32.6m plus bonuses AND Guendouzi to seal Aouar transfer but still Ligue 1 midfielder said no

ARSENAL offered Lyon cash plus Matteo Guendouzi in a last-ditch attempt to land Houssem Aouar, according to reports.
Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas set a Friday deadline for the Gunners to complete the transfer of Aouar, but failed to meet Aulas’ asking price of £45million plus add-ons.

    1

Houssem Aouar will be staying at Lyon this season

RMC Sport claim Arsenal made a final bid of £32.6m plus Matteo Guendouzi and bonuses but were swiftly turned down by Lyon.
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta was desperate to add Aouar to his squad before the transfer window slams shut on Monday but the move now appears dead in the water.
The Gunners had been trying to raise funds for an improved cash offer for Aouar but were unable to do so before Lyon’s deadline.
Lucas Torreira and Sokratis have been strongly linked with moves elsewhere to free up cash.

The north London outfit are still hopeful Atletico Madrid can push through a loan deal for Torreira after the Uruguayan midfielder completed a medical in the Spanish capital.
Guendouzi, meanwhile, has been frozen out of Arsenal’s first team plans since a war of words with Brighton’s Neal Maupay in the Gunners’ defeat at the Amex in June.
Aouar, 22, has also made it clear he will not force his way out of Lyon and intends to stay with Les Gones to help them qualify for the Champions League again.
Lyon missed out on European football last season for the first time since 1997 – despite reaching the semi-finals of last season’s Champions League – after the French season was ended prematurely amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Additionally, Aouar wants to force his way into Didier Deschamps’ France squad ahead of the Euros next summer.
Reports now suggest Arteta could target Chelsea midfielder Jorginho as an alternative.
Arsenal have also linked with Atletico Madrid’s Thomas Partey but have so far been unwilling to meet the Ghanaian’s £45m release clause.
