Arsenal and Tottenham in transfer battle for Franck Kessie but AC Milan will demand more than £45m for midfielder

ARSENAL and Tottenham are reportedly set to battle it out for AC Milan midfielder Franck Kessie who could set them back £45million.
Calciomercato reports the North London rivals are both interested in the Ivorian midfielder who has impressed in Serie A.

Kessie’s partnership with Ismael Bennacer in the middle of the park has helped the Rossoneri storm to the top of the Italian league.
The 23-year-old’s current contract runs until June 2022 but Milan are hopeful of securing a renewal with the player said to be happy at the club.
They value him just short of the £50m mark as his stock has rocketed since the start of the season.
The report states a bid in the region of £23million could have been enough to snare him from the San Siro in the summer.

But now after four goals and three assists in just ten league games it will cost the Premier League sides nearly double that amount to bring him to England.
The North London sides believe the player has all the attributes necessary to succeed in the English top flight.
Kessie arrived in Milan in 2017 on loan from Atalanta before the move became permanent for £21.6m in July 2019.
The midfielder has featured in every game since play restarted in Italy amid the coronavirus pandemic, becoming an essential part of Stefano Pioli’s table-topping side.

However, Kessie got off to a tough start at the club, struggling to fit in but denied he was ever going to leave before turning it around.
He told BBC Sport Africa: “I have never even thought of leaving the club and no one here asked me to do so.
“Wearing this shirt, which is like a second skin to me, is a source of pride for me and my family.”
And as Milan chase their first league title since 2011, Kessie is confident they can continue their supreme form as they currently boast a five-point cushion over city rivals Inter Milan at the top.
He added: “We don’t set ourselves any limits.
“We are on the right path and we have to carry on working like this.
“We have great enthusiasm and high spirit. We want to keep it and nourish it even more until the end of the season.”

Arsenal chase John Stones transfer with Mikel Arteta ‘asking old club to keep him updated’ on Man City ace’s position

ARSENAL have expressed an interest in Manchester City defender John Stones, according to reports.
The defender has 18 months left on his contract at the Etihad and Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is a big fan having worked with Stones during his time as Pep Guardiola’s assistant.

Arsenal have asked to be kept in the loop over Stones’ availability

According to 90min, Stones could be offered an escape route out of Manchester by the Gunners, who have asked to be kept informed if the England international becomes available.
Stones was expected to find minutes hard to come by this season following the signings of Ruben Dias and Nathan Ake in the summer.
But after not featuring in the Premier League since the opening day, the 26-year-old has now started City’s last two top flight matches.

Stones could be tempted by a move in January, though, if that trend doesn’t continue, as he bids to force his way back into Gareth Southgate’s England squad for next summer’s Euros.
Arsenal boss Arteta appears keen to strengthen at the back again despite omitting newboy William Saliba from the Gunners’ Premier League and Europa League squads.
The Gunners signed Saliba from Saint-Etienne last summer but loaned him back to the French side for the 2019-20 campaign.
However, Saliba’s season was disrupted by injury before the Ligue 1 season was abandoned due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Arteta feels Saliba needs another ‘transition year’ before he is ready for the Arsenal first team.

The 19-year-old is said to be unhappy with his situation and is prepared to give up his £90k-a-month wages to leave in January.
Saliba would prefer a loan move back to his native France, while Arsenal are reportedly keen for him to find a Championship club.
Arsenal have also been linked with a January move for Red Bull Salzburg midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai, who is valued at around £18million.
However, the Gunners will reportedly face competition from Real Madrid for the Hungary international’s signature.
Szoboszlai, 20, is seen as a cheaper alternative to Lyon’s Houssem Aouar, who the Gunners failed to land in the summer transfer window.

Arsenal should sign Wilfried Zaha and recall ‘quality’ Mesut Ozil who team are ‘crying out for’, claims David Seaman

ARSENAL should sign Wilfried Zaha and recall outcast Mesut Ozil who the team are ‘crying out for’, according to David Seaman.
The legendary Gunners keeper can’t understand why Crystal Palace forward Zaha has not landed a move to the Emirates and believes the Ivorian would bolster Mikel Arteta’s squad.

Speaking on The Target Men Podcast, brought to you by Football Index, Seaman said: “I think Zaha would be a good addition to Arsenal because he’s a proven goalscorer.
“I don’t know the reason why it hasn’t happened as he obviously wants to come.
“Whether it’s the agents and clubs not agreeing certain things, that must be the reason, but he’s made it clear that he wants to come as he’s an Arsenal fan.
“He would be a good addition to the squad, no doubt at all.”

Seaman called for Arteta to build his team around German ace Ozil rather than leaving him frozen out in the wilderness.
The World Cup winner and former Real Madrid star has not featured competitively since March and collects £350,000 a week in wages despite being axed from Arsenal’s Premier and Europa League squads.
Seaman said: “I am surprised Arteta is choosing to leave out Mezut Ozil because he’s a player of quality.
“I feel something’s gone on personally between the two of them, because to leave him out, and on the money he’s on, is a big statement and for me it’s a bit of a waste, because he’s still a quality player.

“When you look at the Arsenal team, we’re crying out for a player like that, so why don’t you build your team around Ozil rather than just leaving him out in the field and letting him go.”

Despite Ozil’s absence and Arsenal’s worst start to a league season in 39 years, Seaman is ‘impressed’ with Arteta.
He added: “Overall, I’ve been impressed with Mikel Arteta. When he first signed for Arsenal, I thought it was a big risk because it’s his first job and it’s a big job.
“After Emery and the latter years of Arsène, we weren’t getting any better, so for Mikel to take over was a tough ask.
“At the time I thought Patrick Vieira might have been a better choice because he’d already had experience, but after I saw Mikel’s first press interview, I was really impressed.
“Since then, I like how he’s affecting the team, but he needs to be given time from the board to make it his own team.
“The game against Wolves showed that Arsenal are still lacking in confidence and a clear idea of what is expected of them.”

Arsenal legend Patrick Vieira wants William Saliba on loan transfer as Gunners look to develop ace

ARSENAL legend Patrick Vieira wants to take William Saliba on loan, according to reports.
The former Gunners and France midfielder is now the manager at Nice in the pair’s homeland.

And according to But Football Club in France, the Ligue 1 side have been in touch to check on the defender’s availability as they hope to hijack Saint-Etienne’s swoop – and Vieira supported the approach.
Arsenal signed Saliba from Saint-Etienne in 2019 for £27million before loaning him back to the club he joined aged 16.
But despite returning to London Colney when the loan expired in the summer, Saliba is yet to feature in Mikel Arteta’s senior side.
He has made just six Premier League 2 and EFL Trophy appearances.

And after failing to secure a loan move away before the transfer window closed in October, Saliba is expected to make another temporary switch when the market reopens in January.
Arteta even admitted he is ‘fed up’ with the situation after failing to find him a loan move and leaving him out of the Europa League squad.
Nice look set to be without experienced centre-back Dante for the remainder of the season after he suffered knee ligament damage.
The French Under-20 international would make a suitable replacement.

But it is understood Saliba would prefer a return to boyhood club Saint-Etienne – and the French club would certainly welcome him back.
Former Gunners full-back Mathieu Debuchy, now Saint-Etienne’s skipper, said: “We know William’s qualities. He was very impressive at Saint-Etienne.
“Unfortunately for him at Arsenal the start didn’t go the way he wanted it to.
“If William wants to come back this winter he will be welcome and he will have the advantage of knowing the team.”
