William Saliba ‘to hold talks with Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta over short-term future with January transfer in works’

WILLIAM SALIBA is reportedly set for talks with Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta over his short-term future.
The French defender, 19, signed for Arsenal in the summer of 2019 for £27million.

He was expected to be introduced into the Gunners’ first team this season after spending last term back on loan at boyhood club Saint-Etienne.
However, his only appearances have come in the Premier League 2 and EFL Trophy with the club’s youngsters as he claimed he was ‘locked up’ on social media.
Most recently, Saliba turned out against Leicester City Under-23s, although his former team-mate Wesley Fofana, 20, has jumped straight into the Foxes’ senior side since his £32m summer arrival.
And now L’Equipe report a showdown meeting is expected between the player’s agent and Arsenal in the coming days.

The January transfer window is just around the corner and a loan move is likely to be the best option for both parties.
That would allow Saliba to continue his development with first-team football.
Saint-Etienne are expected to go back in for him and take him back for another six months.
They almost secured a deal in the summer window to loan Saliba for the 2020-21 campaign before Arsenal pulled the plug.

However, Arteta may prefer the teenager to go to an English club.
That would help Saliba get to grips with playing in this country against older, experienced professional strikers.
He was left out of the matchday squad to face Manchester City in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals on Tuesday night – despite being in the club’s Premier League squad.
Explaining the decision, Arteta said: “He cannot be involved because he’s not in the squad.
“We made that decision with him and we’ll see what we’re going to do in January. We are talking about it [loan move] yes.”

Mikel Arteta reveals Arsenal transfer plans for next two windows with January and next summer mapped out by Edu

MIKEL ARTETA has revealed Arsenal already have plans in place for the next two transfer windows.
The Gunners were one of the busier Premier League clubs in the summer, acquiring the services of four new players.

Ghana midfielder Thomas Partey was the north Londoners’ most expensive acquisition, costing the current FA Cup holders a cool £45million.
Arsenal’s new recruits have so far failed to change the club’s fortunes on the pitch, with Arteta’s troops currently toiling in 15th place in the Premier League table.
Arteta and Arsenal’s technical director, Edu, weren’t under the illusion that the team’s problems would be resolved in one transfer window and, as such, have made long-term recruitment and exit plans.
The Spaniard: “The planning is done, what we want to do in January and in the summer.

“Sometimes you can do it, sometimes not depending on a lot of factors.
“Edu is dealing with that at the moment and I’m focused with all the games, we don’t have much time to spend energy now on that because it’s very clear what we want to do.
“My job is to make the most out of this squad, the players that we have.
“We know what we want to do and we will try to execute it knowing that the actual context, market and what we’ve been through makes it’s difficult.”

Arsenal – who are currently four points above the relegation zone – have won just one of their last ten Premier League matches.
Arteta has been left frustrated by his side’s poor run of form but believes his men have also failed to get the rub of the green in recent matches.
He said: “Every possible scenario that can happen in a Premier League match is considered there, what is really effecting results, what is really effect what is happening through the game in 96 minutes – and it works,” he said.
“But then football is not like basketball. In basketball, you shoot 50 times and the opponent does it once and you win every single game. It doesn’t work in football like that.

“You can do it the opposite way around and lose 1-0. We lost against Burnley conceding zero shots on target from the opponent.
“We lost it which is incredible but it happens in football unfortunately. Even those things you have to be able to control them, it’s pretty tricky.
“I’m telling you last year we were winning games with 25 per cent chance of winning, but we are so efficient when we get into this position.
“This is football but if you are constantly on sixties and seventies [per cent] long term you are going to win many more matches and this is what we have try to do.
“And believe sustain that, but still improve because there’s always a reason why you don’t win it and that’s what we have to change.”
Arsenal will be back in action on Boxing Day, welcoming their London rivals Chelsea to the Emirates.

Arsenal ‘looking at’ shock Christian Eriksen transfer with Inter Milan looking to offload less than a year after joining

ARSENAL are reportedly ‘looking at’ a shock move for former Tottenham star Christian Eriksen.
Italian paper Gazzetta Dello Sport, via Sport Witness, reports Eriksen could return to North London in red with Inter Milan set to offload the Dane less than a year after he arrived from Spurs.

Eriksen has found himself frozen out under former Chelsea boss Antonio Conte at the San Siro.
And he could provide the attacking spark the Gunners need with Mikel Arteta’s side sitting 15th in the Premier League, four points off the relegation zone.
A horrific start to the season has seen Arsenal take 14 points from as many games with the side mustering just 12 goals, the second fewest in the league behind only Burnley.
Eriksen has featured for just 274 minutes of Serie A action across eight appearances this season.

The 28-year-old moved to Italy from Tottenham in January 2020 for £17m, signing a four-and-a-half-year deal.
But the report suggests Inter are prepared to ship him out on loan – with Arsenal one of the most likely destinations – as they fear it will be tough to broker a permanent deal away in January.
Having spent seven years at White Hart Lane – scoring 69 goals and providing 89 assists in 305 appearances – it would certainly ruffle feathers if Eriksen returned to the Premier League with Arsenal.
He has been linked with a move away as the playmaker is keen to get some more game time ahead of the delayed Euro 2020 tournament next summer.

Eriksen has failed to complete 90 minutes in any competition for Inter this season and has had zero goal involvements.
Inter are reportedly keen on a potential swap deal with a player moving to the San Siro from the Emirates.
And midfielders Granit Xhaka and Dani Ceballos have both been linked although Ceballos’ parent club Real Madrid would have to sign off on any move for the Spaniard.

How Arsenal could line up after transfer window with Isco coming in to help misfiring Aubameyang and Lacazette

ARSENAL are reportedly ready to spend big to bolster Mikel Arteta’s line-up in January.
A huge squad turnover over the next two transfer windows is predicted with a wealth of fringe players moved on.

Sokratis Papastathopoulos, Mesut Ozil and Shkodran Mustafi are just some of the names tipped to leave in either January or June.
Arteta will have the option to bring through youngsters to replace them, focusing his transfer war chest on improving the first XI.
According to the Mail, a hefty pile of cash will be handed to the Spaniard to sign some new stars next month.
Real Madrid playmaker Isco is one reported target who would solve the Gunners’ dire need for some creativity.

An attack that has been going through the motions, combined with misfiring strikers, makes this the priority position for the club.
Los Blancos boss Zinedine Zidane is said to want only a permanent sale for the wantaway star, worth around £55million.

But Arsenal are reportedly happy to cut a loan deal if all parties can agree on the switch.
The Spain international would slot nicely into Arteta’s 4-2-3-1, in behind Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

The double-pivot pairing of Thomas Partey and Granit Xhaka may also be refreshed if their are funds remaining for Yves Bissouma.
Having impressed for Brighton, the Mali midfielder has been linked with the Gunners and Liverpool.

Xhaka’s needless red card in the recent defeat to Burnley may have convinced Arteta of the need to replace the 28-year-old.
Houssem Aouar has also been linked but Paris Saint-Germain are thought to be leading the race for the Lyon ace.
Valencia striker Maxi Gomez and ex-Tottenham hero Christian Eriksen are other men reportedly on Arsenal’s radar.

Seven January transfers Arsenal could pull off with Mikel Arteta set to be handed window war chest – including Isco

MIKEL ARTETA is reportedly ready to spend big to reverse Arsenal’s nightmare start to the season.
Languishing in 15th place of the table, the Gunners have suffered multiple disciplinary and injury issues in 2020-21.

But that could all change if some serious cash is thrown at the problem.
After a hectic summer, the club are reported by the Mail to be formulating a hefty transfer fund for next month.
A number of top stars have also been touted to come in and improve Arteta’s ailing side.
Here, SunSport details seven potential stars that Arsenal may fancy bidding for.

    Isco
The Spanish playmaker, 28, is perhaps the most exciting name linked to the club having fallen out of favour at Real Madrid.
Reports in Spain suggest Isco wants a fresh challenge in January although coach Zinedine Zidane will only settle for a permanent sale.

    Maxi Gomez
Off the back of a goal against Barcelona on the weekend, the Valencia forward could be a tempting option next month.
A powerful, dynamic striker, Gomez is reportedly available for a cut-price fee as Los Che look to balance their books.

    Donyell Malen
A former Gunners youngster, the PSV Eindhoven star has become something of a regret for fans since his rapid rise.
Borussia Dortmund are said to be keen but a good bid could gazump the Germans in the race for Malen.

    Ryan Gravenberch
Ajax chief executive Edwin van der Sar is reportedly seeking a move away, potentially ousting Arsenal’s current transfer chief Edu.
Such a switch could see the ex-goalkeeper turn back to his old club and signing talented teenager Gravenberch would be a huge statement to fans.

    Yves Bissouma
Reports earlier this month detailed the Gunners’ interest in the Brighton midfielder, along with Liverpool.
An impressive campaign from Bissouma could see him make the step up and replace Granit Xhaka in Arteta’s midfield.

    Abdallah Sima
Another one for the future, the 19-year-old has alerted Arsenal after 13 goals in 18 games this season
However, Slavia Prague reportedly want a whopping £50million for star forward Sima.

    Wenderson Galeno
With Houssem Aouar likely off the agenda next month, Arsenal may have to get creative.
And, as a wildcard shot, Braga ace Galeno could plug their creativity gap as the Europa League’s group stage assist leader.

Arsenal outcast Matteo Guendouzi wanted in permanent Hertha Berlin transfer after impressive loan spell

HERTHA BERLIN want to sign Arsenal outcast Matteo Guendouzi on a permanent transfer, according to reports.
The French midfielder, 21, was shoved out on loan for the 2020-21 season after falling out with Mikel Arteta.

He did not play for the Gunners after the match at Brighton in June where he reportedly taunted opponents over his £40,000-a-week wages and scrapped Neal Maupay.
And now Der Tagesspiegel in Germany report the Bundesliga side are exploring the option of keeping Guendouzi.
The manager Bruno Labbadia and the club’s board have been impressed by his start to life in the German capital.
After a delayed start following his deadline-day move due to contracting Covid-19, Guendouzi is already an important member of the team in holding midfield and demonstrating leadership qualities.

And Hertha may look to explore the possibility of signing the former Lorient man as soon as possible.
With Guendouzi in the side, they have lost just one out of seven and average 1.5 points per game compared to 0.6 without him.
He is even overshadowing £22million record signing and compatriot Lucas Tousart, another holding midfielder.
And Guendouzi even grabbed a goal – only the second of his senior club career – with a fine curling effort into the top corner from the edge of the box against Borussia Monchengladbach.

Labbadia said: “Guendouuzi is very, very valuable to us. We are happy that we were able to sign him.
“He’s a very, very good footballer, who has a good sense of space and is technically very strong.
“Matteo is someone who has no reservations. Even though he’s young, he gives instructions.”
Arsenal brought Thomas Partey in over the summer and re-signed Dani Ceballos.
But Lucas Torreira was also allowed to leave on loan while Granit Xhaka’s future is up in the air again after his latest ill discipline.
The Gunners have endured a difficult start to the season with the club 15th and just five points above the drop zone after 13 matches.

Arsenal set to announce first January transfer as defender Omar Rekik, 18, flies to London to seal Hertha Berlin switch

ARSENAL are set to announce their first January transfer after Omar Rekik flew to London to seal his move from Hertha Berlin.
The Gunners were strongly linked with the 18-year-old central defender on Deadline Day, with Matteo Guendouzi going the other way.

But as Guendouzi was shipped off on loan, Emirates chiefs could not get the £900,000 Rekik deal over the line in time, as he instead stayed at Hertha.
It appears now Arsenal have finally got their man, as the centre-half posted an Instagram story arriving in the capital.
Rekik joins the club during an awful run of form, which leaves them 15th with 16 goals conceded in 13 games.
But it is understood the Gunners are eager to loan their new signing to the Bundesliga to gain valuable experience.

Then, according to football.london, part of their appeal is believed to be the opportunity to regularly train with the first team next season.
⚽ Read our Arsenal live blog for the latest news from The Emirates
Despite being highly-rated, Rekik is yet to make his first-team debut for Hertha.
He has featured on the bench three times, without yet getting on.

Rekik, whose big brother Karim left Berlin for Sevilla in the summer, is instead a regular in the German fourth tier for Hertha’s B team.
The left-sided defender is expected to become the seventh Arsenal recruit in the last 12 months to initially play primarily in Per Mertesacker’s under-23 side.

He will follow in the footsteps of Nikolaj Moller, Jon Dinzeyi, Tim Akinola, George Lewis, Joel Ideho and Catalin Cirjan.
Another defender expected to be loaned out in January is William Saliba, one year Rekik’s senior.
The former Saint-Etienne man, who cost £27million in 2019, played 36 first-team matches for the French club but is yet to feature in Arsenal’s first-team.

Arsenal transfer blow as Dominik Szoboszlai agrees personal terms with RB Leipzig as £18m deal nears completion

ARSENAL have been dealt a huge blow following reports that Dominik Szoboszlai agreed personal terms with RB Leipzig.
The 20-year-old had been a major target for the Gunners but looks to have settled on leaving Red Bull Salzburg for its sister club.

Dominik Szoboszlai to RB Leipzig, here we go! The decision has been made. The agreement with Salzburg is set to be completed – personal terms too. ⚪️🔴Looks like tomorrow is ‘the day’. Szoboszlai and his agent are flying in Leipzig for medicals. More to come soon! #transfers
    — Fabrizio Romano (@FabrizioRomano) December 16, 2020

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has claimed the Hungarian has snubbed advances from Mikel Arteta’s side to join RB Leipzig in January.
Szoboszlai is set to touch down in Germany today with his representatives to undergo a medical ahead of his switch from Salzburg.
⚽ Read our Arsenal live blog for the latest news from The Emirates
The midfielder is seen as one of the most exciting prospects in Europe – having bagged four goals and registered six assists in just 11 league games.

He has also notched twice in six Champions League fixtures this term and had attracted interest from both Bayern Munich and Real Madrid.
Los Blancos boss Zinedine Zidane is believed to have personally contacted Szoboszlai earlier this month.
The Frenchman wanted to sign the playmaker as a direct replacement for another one of Arsenal’s targets Isco.
The Gunners were willing to trigger Szoboszlai’s £18.25million release clause as well but had planned to pay it in three separate instalments.

Missing out on last year’s Austrian Bundesliga Player of the Season will come as a further blow to the north Londoners after club chief Edu admitted they are in dire need of more creativity.

He said at Tuesday’s Arsenal fans’ forum: “It’s quite clear what we need.
“We need a player with creativity in the middle, we don’t have that in the squad right now.”
SunSport previously reported that Arsenal boss Arteta is now set to turn his attention to either Madrid ace Isco or Lyon’s Houssem Aouar.
