Arsenal transfer plans for January revealed as Mikel Arteta eyes Houssem Aouar and Isco moves to improve midfield

ARSENAL boss Mikel Arteta has reportedly drawn up a list of January targets as he bids to inject some creativity into his squad.
Goal claim the Spaniard is eyeing a loan move for Real Madrid midfielder Isco while he also remains keen on Lyon playmaker Houssem Aouar.

Arsenal are desperate to sign a creative midfielder in the New Year having struggled in the absence of top earner Mesut Ozil.
Gunners chief Edu admitted recently the club are in dire need of a spark in the middle – despite spending big on Thomas Partey in the summer.
Isco has been linked with a loan switch to north London after his agent confirmed he is looking for a new challenge abroad.
The 28-year-old – who has started just three games in LaLiga this season – is believed to be attracting interest from Arsenal and Manchester City.

But the ex-Malaga star, who is tied down at Los Blancos until 2022, could price himself out of a switch with his wage demands.
Aouar meanwhile has been attracting attention from Paris Saint-Germain and is said to be valued at around £45million.
Arsenal tracked the playmaker for much of the summer window but failed to land their top target.
And Goal add that Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas may be forced into doing business with Arsenal despite previously claiming Aouar would not be sold in January.

That is because French football is reportedly on the edge of a financial crisis following the collapse of a broadcasting deal with Mediapro.
Elsewhere, Arsenal were interested in Dominik Szoboszlai but lost out on the Red Bull Salzburg star to RB Leipzig.
And SunSport previously reported that the Gunners are considering a shock move for Norwich ace Emiliano Buendia but no offer has been made.

Arsenal transfer target Isco revealed his one soft spot for rivals Chelsea as Mikel Arteta eyes Real Madrid ace

ARSENAL are reportedly continuing their chase for Real Madrid playmaker Isco – but it is a packed field.
Everton, Sevilla and Chelsea have all been linked with the Spaniard since Zinedine Zidane cut his gametime at the Bernabeu.

Not since November 8 has Isco started a game for Real, with a 4-1 defeat to Valencia that night in part explaining his coach’s reluctance to revive his trust.
Zidane has since explained: “Isco is going to be an important player.
“It is true that he is not playing much and I am not giving him the opportunity to show the player that he is.
“I feel sorry for my players and I will never forget what I have experienced with them.

“He has to work hard to get another chance, but what is being said [in the media] I can’t respond because we don’t control it.”
A number of reports outline Arsenal’s desire to push for a deal, be it permanent or on loan, to add some much needed creativity to their midfield.

However, it is not yet known if Zidane is willing to let Isco leave while Real battle on numerous fronts.
According to Spanish outlet AS, the 48-year-old is more likely to keep Isco back and allow him a move at the end of the season.

It is said that Isco will be happy with this option, with a transfer to Sevilla for around £15million his preference in the summer.

So far, the player himself has made no major commotion in the media about his lack of playing time but did hint at a possible destination last year.
Speaking to Soccer Bible, the 28-year-old revealed Stamford Bridge to be one ground he would like to play at but was yet to have the chance.
Now, Isco has stepped foot on the turf at the likes of Wembley, Anfield, Old Trafford and Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan – but not the Emirates.

Arsenal join Liverpool in £35m Roger Ibanez transfer race as Mikel Arteta eyes up Roma defender

ARSENAL have reportedly joined Liverpool in the race for Roma defender Roger Ibanez.
The Brazilian centre-back is on loan from Atalanta and the Gunners are one of the clubs who have made a ‘request’ for the 22-year-old, according to Calciomercato.

Everton and Leicester are the other clubs mentioned in the report.
Liverpool were previously linked with a move for Ibanez as Jurgen Klopp looks to strengthen his resources at the back with Virgil Van Dijk and Joe Gomez both long-term absentees with serious knee injuries.
Joel Matip became the latest member of the champions’ squad to suffer an injury blow with the centre-back set to miss the top-of-the-table clash with Manchester United as he faces three weeks out with a groin problem.
Ibanez moved to the Italian capital in January 2020 and has started all but one of the side’s league games this season.

He has also starred in the Europa League for Paulo Fonseca’s team and caught the eye with his assured performances at the back.
It is believed it will take a fee in the region of £30-35million to prise him away from Serie A.
And the interested Premier League sides could also face competition from French giants Paris Saint-Germain who have also been linked with a move.
PSG are reportedly keen on Ibanez to fill the role of long-term successor to his compatriot Thiago Silva.

The veteran Brazilian defender, 36, left the Parc des Princes when his contract expired in the summer, joining Chelsea for free and has started his Stamford Bridge career well with a number of impressive showings under Frank Lampard.
Arsenal strengthened at centre-back by signing Gabriel Magalhaes from Lille for £27m in the summer but he is currently sidelined having tested positive for Covid-19.
A spot for Ibanez to fill is set to open up with the Gunners likely to offload Shkodran Mustafi as the German’s contract expires in the summer and he was even linked with a sensational January move to Barcelona.

Mikel Arteta insists Arsenal’s transfer plans for creative midfielder will NOT be affected by back-to-back wins

MIKEL ARTETA confirmed Arsenal’s back-to-back wins will NOT affect their transfer plans for a creative midfielder.
The Gunners left Brighton’s Amex Stadium with three points after Alexandre Lacazette’s winner sealed the win.

It followed on from their 3-1 thrashing of London rivals Chelsea, with Arteta’s men now sitting 13th.
But it will not stop the Spaniard from looking to bolster his previously struggling squad when the January sales open.
Arteta said: “The last few results will not change our approach to the window.”
With Mesut Ozil frozen out of the squad, Arsenal have been linked with attacking midfielders.

Real Madrid’s Isco, Houssem Aouar of Lyon and Inter Milan’s unsettled Dane Christian Eriksen are among players linked with a move to the Emirates.
But before Arteta can think about the winter window, he is relieved performances are now bringing in points following a dismal run.
He said: “This period has been so important.

“We had a tough week, it wasn’t so much about performances but about results yet you need results to start the confidence.

“Now with two wins, everybody is in a better mood.
“We’ve managed to get through this period while maintaining our team spirit and cohesion.
“It has been frustrating with defeats and that can affect the team but hopefully we can now go on a runs in a positive direction.”

Atletico Madrid TERMINATE Diego Costa’s contract after striker demands to be let go with Arsenal keen on transfer

ATLETICO MADRID have terminated the contract of Diego Costa with immediate effect as Arsenal eye a shock transfer.
The Spanish striker’s deal was set to expire at the end of the 2020-21 season.

But with the LaLiga side keen to get his reported £270,000-a-week salary off the wage bill, there was talk they would permit him to leave for free in January as he skipped training on Monday to help resolve his situation.
However, Atletico Madrid today confirmed the decision to rip up his contract and release him now – the third time he has departed the club during his career.
He rejoined them in 2018 from Chelsea and managed 19 goals in 81 games in his latest spell.
He leaves with an overall record of 83 goals in 215 appearances for the Spanish side, winning LaLiga, the Copa del Rey and Europa League.

Atleti said: “The striker asked to leave the club for personal reasons a few days ago and on Tuesday signed the termination of his contract.
“The club wishes the striker the best of luck in the next stage of his professional career.”
Boss Diego Simeone added: “He gave us a lot and we gave him a lot. He needs a new challenge. I’m sure that wherever he goes he’ll do well because he’s a fighter.”
The transfer window reopens on Friday, giving the ex-Chelsea striker all of January to find a new club.

Reports in Spain suggest Costa, 32, would have to pay a staggering £23million to Atletico if he joined one of Barcelona, Real Madrid or Sevilla.
Radio station Cadena Cope added he would need to stump up £4.5m if a different ‘champion team’ signed him.

And he would automatically be forced into a £2.9m settlement if he simply joined any other club before his previous Atleti contract was due to run out on June 30, 2021.
However, a return to the Premier League could be on the cards.
Costa won the Premier League twice in his three years at Chelsea but may join rivals Arsenal in January.
The Gunners are struggling for goals and form this season under Mikel Arteta and the North Londoners are thought to be keen on a move for Costa.
Wolves are another option as they look for a striker to replace Raul Jimenez during his recovery from surgery following a fractured skull.

Chelsea, Manchester United and Tottenham are all outside bets.
Costa also has plenty of interest from South America plus the Middle and Far East.
But the forward is allegedly determined to remain playing at the top level in Europe, where he feels he can still compete for another few years.
He has endured an injury-hit season and fallen behind Luis Suarez and Joao Felix in Simeone’s pecking order at the Wanda Metropolitano.
That has limited him to just seven appearances across all competitions, including two starts, and two goals.
