Arsenal ‘so happy’ with Martin Odegaard and want to make transfer permanent but Zinedine Zidane will have final decision

THE FUTURE of Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane could be key in Arsenal’s bid to sign Martin Odegaard permanently.Reports suggest the Gunners are keen on a long-term deal for the Norway national team captain following his impressive loan spell.

But, according to transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano, the decision will be out of their hands as Los Blancos formulate their summer plans.
Much attention is being paid to the future of coach Zidane, who faces a difficult task to deliver silverware to follow up last year’s LaLiga crown.
Exactly what Madrid plan to do with Odegaard remains to be seen, particularly if a new manager is installed.
Odegaard was given a chance by Zidane following a solid loan stint with Real Sociedad last season.
He failed to truly impress in a nine-game spell before being allowed to join Arsenal in January.
In North London, the 22-year-old has been a star performer and was praised for a vibrant display against West Ham on the weekend.

Gunners boss Mikel Arteta said of Odegaard’s role in the three-goal comeback: “I think he had an incredible performance.
“He was very intelligent the way he read the game, the way he affected the game and again he showed how much he wanted to win.
“When everyone was a little trembling he gave us that stability and that composure on the ball and he created chance after chance. He’s been showing that, I think, from week one.
“The way he steps on the pitch, he always wants the ball, the way he commands the pressing. He’s been really influential.
“I think we’ve all been a bit surprised because he looks really shy and humble, but when he steps on that pitch he’s a real character and he loves to play football.”
Odegaard has also hit crucial goals against Olympiacos and Tottenham in recent weeks.

And the midfielder ignited fans’ hopes of a longer stay by describing the club as ‘home’ earlier this month.
He said: “I have felt at home since the first day.
“I am happy to be here and I feel great so I’m very pleased to be a part of the team.”

But according to Spanish newspaper La Razon, Kokcu has now had his price cut by more than half – and in doing so drawn the eyes of two more Premier League clubs.
Both Leicester and Leeds are said to be in for the 20-year-old international, who received his first cap for Turkey in September.
Sevilla are also looking at the youngster, whose contract does not expire with Feyenoord until 2025.
However, the Dutch side are open to letting him go for the right price as they look to address their financial problems.
Speaking recently about his future, Kokcu said: “I have a contract until 2025 but the situation has changed.
“The club has been very clear about the financial situation and it is clear that it is not good.
“So if a club comes with a good proposal for me and the entity can enter a good amount, I imagine that it will be listened to.”
Kokcu broke through into Feyenoord’s first team in 2018 and has been an integral part of their side ever since.

He has already racked up 49 appearances for the club, scoring seven goals and assisting eight more.
Kokcu has featured in central areas in both a 4-3-3 and 4-2-3-1 set-up this season, pushing into an advanced position in the latter formation.
Meanwhile, Arsenal now have an array of attacking options in the middle of the park including the likes of Thomas Partey, Emile Smith Rowe, Martin Odegaard and Willian.

Arsenal transfer target Evan N’Dicka to cost more than £19m as Gunners told to ‘dig deep’ for Eintracht Frankfurt star

ARSENAL have been warned that any deal for Eintracht Frankfurt star Evan N’Dicka will ‘certainly not be cheap’.Frankfurter Neue Presse claim the Bundesliga side currently value the defender at £19million but that price is expected to rise by the summer.

The report adds that Frankfurt have ‘no pressure’ to sell N’Dicka this year as he’s tied down on a contract until 2023.
This means that Arsenal would have to ‘dig deep into their pockets’ if they want to sign the ‘defensive gem’ at the end of the season.
German outlet FNP even state that the 21-year-old would suffer a ‘setback’ in his development if he moved to north London for less playing time.
SunSport revealed this week that Arsenal had held talks with N’Dicka’s representatives over a possible move.
Mikel Arteta is eager to continue reshaping his defence after moving on Shkodran Mustafi, Soktratis Papastathopoulos and Sead Kolasinac.
N’Dicka has impressed at the back under Adi Hutter this term, making 17 appearances on the left of a back-three.
And the imposing 6ft 4in centre-back has also broken into France’s Under-21 set-up – although he was left out of their youth squad for the Euro’s.
Arsenal meanwhile could also strengthen their midfield, with Brighton midfielder Yves Bissouma thought to be on their wishlist.

The Malian, 24, has impressed for Graham Potter’s side this season.
The Gunners were reportedly interested in acquiring his signature in January and are likely to return for him this summer.
Arsenal have recent experience of dealing with Brighton, having signed Mat Ryan on loan from the Seagulls at the turn of the year.

Matteo Guendouzi determined to fight for Arsenal future and vows to ‘give everything’ despite Mikel Arteta row

MATTEO GUENDOUZI has vowed to fight for his Arsenal career once his Hertha Berlin loan spell comes to an end.
Mikel Arteta sent the Frenchman to the Bundesliga following a bust-up over his attitude.

The Gunners boss was less than impressed with Guendouzi’s reaction to a ill-tempered defeat at Brighton, having already marked the midfielder’s card in his strict approach to team discipline.
The 21-year-old has played 19 times in Germany as Hertha look to secure survival in the top-tier.
But, with the loan move unlikely to be made permanent given Berlin’s lack of finances, Guendouzi hopes to return to North London in the summer.
When asked about his career at Arsenal being over, he told France Football “No, not at all.

“Now, I am focused on my season with Hertha Berlin.
“Next, we will have a sit down with my entourage and people at the club to think and discuss the future.
“I am still an Arsenal player. This summer will be a decisive moment.”
Guendouzi is under contract at Emirates Stadium until 2022 although SunSport revealed last month that the Gunners plan to make him available for transfer as part of a summer clearout.

Nevertheless, the player is determined not to fall victim to the club’s cost-cutting drive.
On the prospect of returning next season, he added: “Yes, of course. I belong to Arsenal for another year.
“I am here to improve. From the moment that I am playing for Arsenal, I will give everything for this club, for the fans, for the team, for the staff.
“I will work hard for the shirt as I have always done.”

Arsenal star Joe Willock open to extending Newcastle loan transfer beyond this summer after falling in love with club

JOE WILLOCK is open to extending his loan at Newcastle from Arsenal into next season.
While relegation would surely scupper those plans, the midfielder is loving life on Tyneside after the ‘scary’ move north.

The England Under-21s ace made the perfect start, scoring on his debut in the home win over Southampton last month.
And Willock, 21, said: “I love playing for Newcastle.
“When I first came here, I was a bit apprehensive of how I would take to it because I’d never left Arsenal.
“I’d been at Arsenal since I was four and a half, so coming to a new club, coming up north to Newcastle was a bit scary.

“But as I came here and settled in and saw the love from the fans that I’m receiving, of course I’d love to continue playing here.”
Goals have been hard to come by without injured star men Callum Wilson, Miguel Almiron and Allan Saint-Maximin.
Under-fire Toon boss Steve Bruce hopes to have Almiron back for Saturday’s must-win clash at Brighton, with Wilson and Saint-Maximin expected back against Tottenham after the international break.
Saint-Maximin jetted back to Newcastle on Sunday after spending the week in France recovering from a groin problem.

While he will now follow quarantine protocols, the French winger has enough time to be ready for the visit of Spurs on April 3.
Perched two points above the drop, the Magpies have won just two of their last 19 games and have only scored three goals in their last five.
And Willock said: “The responsibility to score is on everyone, everyone has to have the desire to score goals, everyone has to push to get on the scoresheet and win games for this brilliant club.
“So, hopefully, fingers crossed, it’ll start showing.”

Ex-Arsenal transfer chief Sven Mislintat questions why Mikel Arteta sent Matteo Guendouzi and Lucas Torreira out on loan

FORMER Arsenal transfer chief Sven Mislintat revealed he does not understand why Mikel Arteta sent midfielders Matteo Guendouzi and Lucas Torreira on loan.
The Gunners boss sanctioned the temporary departures of both stars ahead of the start of the current Premier League season.

Bad boy Guendouzi, 21, was shipped off to Hertha Berlin for the campaign with Uruguayan ace Torreira, 25, joining Atletico Madrid.
Ex-head of recruitment Mislintat helped bring the pair to the Emirates in 2018 and suggested Arteta was wrong to discard the duo from his first team plans.
He told The Athletic: “I respect Mikel a lot.
“I’d love to talk to him one day, to understand his reasons for sending Matteo as well as Lucas Torreira on loan, and tell him my view in relation to their qualities.

“But it’s his decision, of course. My personal opinion remains that Matteo would still add some extra qualities to Arsenal’s midfield, like Lucas could.
“Their market values increased hugely after their debut season.”
Frenchman Guendouzi caused a stir at Arsenal, falling out with Arteta following a Dubai training camp bust-up and behaving disgracefully in a match against Brighton.
And he has continued to court controversy in Germany, with his new boss Pal Dardai saying he is going through ‘football puberty’ and dropping him to the bench.

CHELTENHAM SPECIAL OFFER – GET THE FIRST RACE FAVOURITE AT HUGE 50/1 PRICE

But Mislintat sees things differently and said: “I disagree with Pal. If you’re not playing Matteo in midfield, it must be a very strong midfield.
“He’s a young central midfielder. In that position, players reach their peak at 27-28.
“He obviously doesn’t get everything right but he plays with a decisiveness and quality that make him an extraordinary player.
“You shouldn’t try to change his game but work on the details to improve him, if you are able to do so, you make him a ‘monster’ midfielder.”
Torreira has also had a difficult time of things after barely getting a kick under Diego Simeone in the Spanish capital.
He has played just 629 minutes of football across 22 appearances in all competitions for the LaLiga leaders.
There was talk Arsenal would look to find a different loan destination for him in January to ensure he was getting enough game time but a move never transpired.
Both players are due back in North London at the conclusion of the season but could be moved on permanently by the Arsenal brass.

Arsenal and Chelsea in Achraf Hakimi transfer race and crisis-club Inter Milan could cash in amid financial turmoil

ARSENAL and Chelsea are competing to sign Achraf Hakimi from crisis-club Inter Milan, reports say.
Inter’s owners, Suning Holdings Group, have recently announced they will be shutting down their Chinese Super League team, Jiangsu FC.

It has led to speculation that they could also be forced to step away from the San Siro – although chairman Steven Zhang has repeatedly dismissed rumours of a sale or takeover.
The club may still need to raise significant funds causing Antonio Conte to look at clearing his squad.
And according to The Telegraph, right-back Hakimi, 22, is a potential casualty, with London rivals Arsenal and Chelsea interested.
The Gunners have been in the market for a potential replacement for Hector Bellerin, who is linked with a move to PSG and Juventus.

It is understood Arsenal were alerted to Hakimi’s potential availability.
But Chelsea are also said to be interested in the defender, who joined Inter from Real Madrid for £34million last summer.
That is despite Reece James’ emergence in the first-team, Callum Hudson-Odoi’s recent run at wingback and Cesar Azpilicueta’s ability to cover at full-back.
After struggling for game time at Madrid, Hakimi was sent on loan to Borussia Dortmund for two seasons from 2018 to 2020.

Dortmund were keen to make the deal permanent after the Moroccan established himself as one of the best young talents in Germany.
But Hakimi opted for a five-year contract with Inter and has impressed, scoring six goals with four assists.
He has also helped the club to league leaders, six points ahead of neighbours AC Milan.
