Arsenal and Man Utd in Eduardo Camavinga transfer fight as Rennes midfielder, 18, ‘refuses to sign new contract’

ARSENAL are reportedly in the transfer battle to sign Eduardo Camavinga after he refused to sign a new contract at Rennes. But the Gunners face strong competition from Manchester United and Real Madrid for the defensive midfielder.

Reports earlier this week stated the 18-year-old would not put pen to paper on a new deal with the Ligue 1 side.
With his current contract expiring in 2022, that means Rennes may be forced into selling their young star or risk losing him for free next year.
And according to Marca, Arsenal may try their luck to lure the Frenchman to the Emirates – even if, like Rennes, they cannot offer Champions League football next season.
A lack of European football of any kind at Rennes plus suggestions they would try and add a release clause into a new contract is thought to be putting Camavinga off committing his future to the club and pricing himself out of a dream move.
He signed with Gareth Bale’s agent Jonathan Barnett at the end of last year, possibly in anticipation of a mega move.
And with plenty of links in England and Spain, there will be no shortage of interest in the Frenchman.
Barnett told The Athletic: “Camavinga can play next year in the Premier League. He is that good. Whether he will or not, I don’t know.
“His background is tough if you know what he went through as a refugee. But his character is amazingly strong.

“He is not your average 18-year-old. Playing in front of 100,000 people is not going to scare him.
“He’s a lovely boy and I think he’s going to be a superstar.”
Speaking about where his new client could end up, Barnett suggested LaLiga is the most likely destination.
He added: “Eduardo will have a choice of a lot of clubs if Rennes decide to release him.
“Madrid are a great club, a great club to play for.
“They will be one of the four of five clubs in the world he might go to. Eduardo would love to play for a top club.
“Madrid are one of those top clubs in the world, so are Barcelona.”
Camavinga has 77 first-team club appearances under his belt already – including four impressive displays in this season’s Champions League.

The Angola-born midfielder netted a stunning overhead kick on his international full senior debut for the world champions last October to become the youngest scorer for France in 106 years.
As well as Real, Arsenal and United, Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus are among the teams tracking him.
Rumours in recent months have quoted a £45million transfer fee – the kind of money Rennes would surely find impossible to turn down.
However, the Red Devils want to avoid any long-strung transfer sagas.
Their pursuit of Jadon Sancho last summer ultimately failed and they do not want a repeat if they go back in for the England winger, his Borussia Dortmund team-mate Erling Haaland or Camavinga.

That led to Arsenal’s reported interest in their bid to find cover for Kieran Tierney.
But the Eagles have moved to tie down one of their most exciting prospects, who has made 14 appearances this season.
Mitchell joined from Brentford in 2016 and has worked his way up to the first team after impressing in the academy at Under-18 and Under-23 level.
Chairman Steve Parish said: “This shows once again how our academy can attract the very best young talent and develop them into first-team players.
“Tyrick’s progress is an immense source of pride for our club and academy.”
Londoner Mitchell added: “It’s a great place to be and an exciting time so I’m delighted to sign a contract.”

Palace still have ten first-team players whose contracts expire this summer, including Mitchell’s fellow left-back Patrick van Aanholt, as well as boss Roy Hodgson.
Christian Benteke, Nathaniel Clyne and Gary Cahill are among the other over-30s whose deals are up.
The Eagles’ squad is the oldest in the Premier League with several of this season’s starting XIs boasting an average age of 30-plus.
On Monday, the side will attempt to push further into mid-table with a win over Leicester before the visit of Manchester City.

Konstantinos Mavropanos refuses to commit to Arsenal future opening door to making Stuttgart loan a permanent transfer

KONSTANTINOS MAVROPANOS refused to commit his future to Arsenal – despite only signing a new contract last year. And instead, the Greek defender opened the door to making his Stuttgart loan switch permanent.

Mavropanos, 23, joined the Gunners from PAS Giannina in his homeland in 2018 but has just eight first-team appearances under his belt.
He spent the second half of last season at Nurnberg, penned a fresh three-year deal at the Emirates and headed back to Germany for the current campaign – making 16 Bundesliga appearances in an injury-hit spell.
But as the end of the season looms, questions remain over what is next for the centre-back.
Speaking to Bild, Mavropanos revealed staying at Stuttgart is an option.
Asked if he will return to the Emirates this summer, he said: “I can’t say that at the moment. Things can change quickly in football.
“I still have two months here in Stuttgart and would like to end the season with the team as high up as possible.
“The door at VfB is open for me – that’s very good.
“But I can only really think about the future once we have talks with Arsenal for the new season.”

Former Arsenal head of recruitment Sven Mislintat is now sporting director at Stuttgart.
And he confirmed in March the German club want to extend the deal for Mavropanos – at least on loan for another season.
The defender has put in a series of fine performances this term and earned himself his first senior Greece cap in the March internationals.
That has led to some Arsenal fans calling for him to be given a chance at the Emirates next season.

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta urges under-fire Thomas Partey to prove why Gunners splashed £45million on him

MIKEL ARTETA has urged Thomas Partey to step up and show just why Arsenal put so much effort into signing him.The Ghanaian midfielder was supposed to be a game changer when he was poached from Atletico Madrid for £45million last summer.

But that is not quite how things have worked out so far for the 27-year-old.
And now Arsenal supporters are starting to wonder just what all the fuss was about after watching their team continue to struggle in the middle of the park.
Partey’s cause has not been helped by a frustrating run of niggling injuries which have prevented him from putting a consistent run of games together.
But Arteta said: “Hopefully we will see the best version of Thomas at Sheffield United on Sunday and against Slavia Prague next week.
“Now that he has got a sequence of two or three games I think we’ll see him finishing the season in a really strong way.
“It’s very difficult to make a proper assessment of Thomas’ performances so far because he has missed six months and that is a long time.
“He is still adapting to our way of playing, which is different to what he did at Atletico, but he we can all see what he brings to the team.
“It’s about him finding the level of consistency that we need from him because he has the capacity that we can build a team that can play around him.

“The biggest difficulty he has had so far is that he has not been fit. Then every time he recovered, he missed the next game.
“He has not had time to prepare himself physically to play at the highest level and that has obviously had an impact because the Premier League demands real fitness.”
With just three wins in their last ten Prem games, Arsenal need Partey to be firing on all cylinders against bottom of the table Sheffield United tomorrow.
Arteta said: “Sheffield United will give what they do every week, which is a big commitment and a big fight in spite of their position.
“The club we represent has high demands and the minimum we can ask for is everyone to work hard to deliver the goals that are expected from us.
“There are some really good examples of teams that were rebuilding and were helped in the project by being out of Europe.
“But I would rather be in Europe every year and I still want to qualify through our League position and also win the Europa League.”
