Arsenal weighing up transfer for Barcelona outcast Neto after £35m Aaron Ramsdale move collapses

ARSENAL are weighing up a move for Barcelona keeper Neto after refusing to meet Sheffield United’s £35million asking price for Aaron Ramsdale. The Gunners’ offer of £20m plus add-ons for the England shot stopper was rejected after discussions took place on Wednesday, leading Arsenal to end their pursuit of the 23-year-old.

Arsenal will now reportedly turn their attention to Barca’s back-up keeper Neto, 32, who could be available on a cut-price transfer or loan deal as the Spanish giants seek to reduce their wage bill.
The Brazilian, who still has two years left on his current deal, has made just nine appearances in LaLiga for Barca since joining for an initial £22m from Valencia in 2019.
It is believed that Neto could be the perfect solution to Arsenal’s goalkeeper crisis, with the Gunners desperate to provide cover for Bernd Leno and competition for the number one spot.
There is also a good feeling at Arsenal that the deal can be completed swiftly as the player is represented by Kia Joorabchian, who previously orchestrated moves to north London for Cedric, Willian and David Luiz.
Neto was just one of a number of possible options that SunSport suggested Arsenal could turn to after failing to land Ramsdale, including PSG keeper Keylor Navas.
The Costa Rican is set to be ousted as number one following the arrival of Gianluigi Donnarumma on a free transfer from AC Milan and would bring some much needed experience and pedigree to Mikel Arteta’s squad.

BETTING SPECIAL – GET ARSENAL TO BEAT BRENTFORD AT 30/1
However, a deal for Neto looks far more likely and though Arsenal’s interest in Ramsdale appears to be shelved for now, they could come back in for him later on should Sheffield United’s position change.
Arsenal get their Premier League campaign started tonight with a clash with newly promoted Brentford.
Speaking ahead of the opener, Arteta revealed he was powerless to stop Amazon’s ‘All or Nothing’ cameras from filming behind the scenes.
He also admitted they have a tough start to the season with games against Chelsea and Manchester City early on.
But he urged fans to be “excited” about the season ahead.

Arsenal and Spurs are reportedly set to face competition from Everton, Roma and Napoli for the highly-rated midfielder.
The Switzerland international has attracted plenty of interest this summer with a move from Germany looking increasingly likely.
Zakaria made two appearances for Switzerland at Euro 2020 including their quarter-final against Spain.
The 24-year-old was troubled by a knee injury last season and this could result in Monchengladbach accepting a lower transfer fee.
Zakaria only has one year remaining on his current contract and the German club could be ready to offload him before his deal runs out.
The defensive midfielder made 32 appearances for Monchengladbach last season scoring once.
Zakaria is reportedly stepping up his fitness levels in a bid to earn a lucrative move this summer.

Abraham has fallen out of favour at Stamford Bridge under Thomas Tuchel since the German’s appointment last season.
Jose Mourinho wants to bring the striker to Roma and, according to The Athletic, Pinto is heading to London in an attempt to finalise a deal.
But the 23-year-old is yet to be convinced over a move to Italy and his preference is to join the Gunners.

Abraham is in Chelsea’s squad for their Super Cup match against Villarreal.
But it is clear his future lies away from the Blues with the club on the verge of completing the £97.5million signing of Romelu Lukaku.

German newspaper Bild claims all three Prem rivals are keen on bringing the midfielder to England’s top-flight this summer.
And it is thought the player is ramping up efforts to boost his return to fitness after falling ill with Covid-19 at the end of July.
Bild claims Zakaria, 24, who joined Monchengladbach in 2017, has spent his summer running roughly five to six miles on a treadmill on a daily basis.
It is reported the highly sought-after player, who moved to the Bundesliga from Swiss club Young Boys, is eager to stay in peak condition in case of a summer move.
Zakaria has been attracting attention from some of Europe’s biggest sides in the past few seasons.
Manchester United, Atletico Madrid and Liverpool are reported to have been monitoring the Swiss ace’s form and performances. in the past.
In March 2020, the 6ft 2in defensive midfielder – who can also play in midfield – was thought to be valued around the £43million mark.
And Sport Witness claims Monchengladbach are now hoping to get at least £33m for one of their most promising stars.
However, it is thought issues with a knee injury – which kept Zakaria out of action in 11 games across all competitions last term – could force the club to reduce their asking price.

And with Arsenal rumoured to be lining up a summer swoop, Rodgers has warned it will take a similar offer to prise Maddison away from the King Power Stadium.
After beating City in the Community Shield, Rodgers said: “I think they are both close. They are both very talented players.
PREMIER WIN! Get crazy 20/1 odds on Salah scoring ONE goal in August
“Stylistically, I think they’re the same. They are both creators.
“But I would say they are both totally different. One is a dribbler – one commits people down the sides.
“James is more central and he’s more of a passer. So yes, they are both creative players but stylistically they are both very different.
“Everyone could see today how hard James works for the team, his quality and how he takes the ball. His eye for the last pass.
“He is a wonderful talent and I thought he was excellent tactically because they really challenge you in that respect. I thought he was brilliant.”
Rodgers, who is fending off the Gunners’ interest in Maddison, has backed his star to add to his single England cap this season.

He added: “James was unfortunate in that he suffered from a number of injuries which curtailed his progress last season.
“This will be a big year for him, trying to maintain that fitness – you need a little bit of luck with that as well.
“All he can do is play to the highest possible level for Leicester and see where it takes him.”
