Arsenal keeper Bernd Leno wanted by Inter Milan on free transfer next summer as he nears end of contract

ARSENAL keeper Bernd Leno is reportedly wanted by Inter Milan on a free transfer next summer. The Germany star, 29, has less than a year left on his Gunners contract and his “unwillingness” to sign an extension hints at a possible 2022 exit, according to a football.london report.
Leno has established himself as Arsenal’s No 1 but is yet to sign an extension on his contract which runs out in 2022
Leno was firmly established as Mikel Arteta’s No 1 after the sale of Argentina’s Emiliano Martinez, 29, to Aston Villa last year.
He has started all three Prem games for Arsenal so far this season and also featured for Germany this week in a 2-0 World Cup qualifying win over Liechtenstein in Hansi Flick’s first game in charge.
Those Gunners appearances have all been defeats however, and he may soon find his position under threat after the £24million signing of Aaron Ramsdale from Sheffield United last month.
Ramsdale, 23, started and kept a clean sheet in Arsenal’s only win so far this season – a 6-0 Carabao Cup demolition of West Brom.
And it seems cash-strapped Inter may be waiting in the wings to capitalise on the situation with Italian sports newspaper Tuttosport reporting the Serie A champions are after a free signing.
The report states they are also and keeping tabs on Ajax’s Andre Onana.

BETTING SPECIAL – GET 20/1 ON ENGLAND TO BEAT ANDORRA
If Leno does leave at the end of his contract it would mean the Gunners will see no return on the £22m they paid Bayer Leverkusen for him three years ago.
Leno was rumoured to be among the players who were looking for an exit this summer, but a move never materialised.

He denied those reports in an interview with German TV channel Sport1 in which he said: “I don’t want to flee here, I feel good and want to be successful again with Arsenal.”
Leno did say he might want to move away some time in the future, though, and added: “So far I’ve played for two clubs.
“Maybe I’ll get the urge to play in another league again. Maybe in the south. But there is time.” More

YES – BUT WHO’S THE BETTER PLAYER?
Arsenal’s £50million summer signing Ben White could prove better value in central defence than new £42m Manchester United recruit Raphael Varane over the next four years at least according to this tweet below.

But no financial predictions can replace the basic question: Which of them is and will be the ‘better’ player?
That’s without even considering other issues, such as how they gel with team-mates and tactics, plus their facts and figures ON the pitch.
French World Cup winner Varane, 27, has the greater pedigree after ten years with Real Madrid.
But White, twice capped by England, is four years younger.
Gunners’ fans, though, will want to know if has the stature, mentally as well as physically, to help Mikel Arteta’s men recover from opening with three straight Prem defeats – including conceding nine goals.
Let’s discuss this again in 2025…!
    MUSTAFI JOY AT LEVANTE DEAL
Former Arsenal defender Shkodran Mustafi claims he was instantly impressed with Levante as he joined the Spaniards following his release from Schalke.
The 20-cap Germany star, 29, held talks with Torino last month but the Serie A club chose not to pursue a deal.
    Credit: AFP
Instead LaLiga club Levante have handed the ex-Valencia ace an 18-month contract.
Mustafi said: “From the first moment I liked the idea of coming to Levante.
“We are going to give everything to take the club as high as possible.”
    BERND OUT TO INTER?
Inter Milan are eyeing Arsenal No1 Bernd Leno, reports say.
According to Italian outlet Tuttosport, the cash-strapped Serie A champions Inter will target affordable alternatives in the next transfer window.
Leno, 29, is coming into the final year of his contract meaning Inter can negotiate a pre-contract from January 2022.
WENGER: ARSENAL ARE IN GOOD SHAPE
Arsene Wenger believes Arsenal are in a good place despite making their worst start to a season for 67 years, writes KEALAN HUGHES.
The Gunners have lost their opening three Premier League games without scoring a goal.
But former manager Wenger believes Arsenal have had a tough fixture list to contend with.
Mikel Arteta has also lost key players like Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Ben White to Covid while others such as Thomas Partey have been ruled out with injury.
Wenger told German outlet BILD Live: “I’m 71. I’ve given this club the best years of my life. At the moment I’m just a fan.
“Today the club is in good shape.
“They had two tough games (against Chelsea and Manchester City), the team has potential and I hope they can come back.”
    SILKY SAMBI
Sambi Lokonga has started two games for Arsenal so far this season.
He’s settled into the midfield well, and Gunners fans should get a glimpse of him alongside Thomas Partey in their next game against Norwich.

    GAB’S BACK
Arsenal defender Gabriel made his return to action in a behind closed doors game against Brentford.
The Brazilian starred alongside summer signing Ben White, and the pair would most likely be the Gunners’ starting centre-back partnership.
Arsenal won the game 4-0, and seeing some stars return from injury made boss Mikel Arteta happy.
    He said: “Yeah, really good.
“We don’t have any big injuries as well, they have the minutes, we could work on some things, so it was a good idea to play the game.”
    TORREIRA SPEAKS
Arsenal midfielder Lucas Torreira has broken his silence on why he left Arsenal to head to Fiorentina on loan.
And the midfielder simply says it’s because he feels ‘good’ in Italy, where he played before he joined the Gunners.
He said: “I wanted to go back to Italy, where I felt good.
“For me the most important thing is to play.
“It’s true that we have been talking about Fiorentina for many years, I want to make the most of this experience now that I’m here.”
    SAK THATS
Saka was brought on late on in England’s thumping 4-0 win over Hungary in Budapest.

    HEATH JOINS ARSENAL
Arsenal Women have announced the signing of USA international Tobin Heath.
The 33-year-old has an incredible record.
Boss Jonas Eidevall said: “Tobin’s record speaks for itself.
“She’s an incredibly talented player who will bring so much experience to our squad.
“This is an exciting time for the club, and I’m delighted we could secure Tobin’s signing as we prepare to kick off the new season at Emirates Stadium on Sunday.”
    RAM’S A STARTER
Arsenal summer signing Ramsdale could take Leno’s No1 spot sooner than expected.
Journalist Charles Watt has predicted the England international will be a starter sooner than other youthful summer signings.
On his show, he said: “You would say [Takehiro] Tomiyasu, Ramsdale, [Albert Sambi] Lokonga and [Nuno] Tavares are very much more ones for the future, although I don’t think it’ll be too long until we see Aaron Ramsdale installed as Arsenal’s number one.”
    INTER PLOT LENO SWOOP
Inter Milan are plotting a transfer swoop for Arsenal first team goalkeeper Bernd Leno, reports say.
According to Italian outlet Tuttosport, the cash-strapped Serie A champions Inter will target affordable alternatives in the next transfer window.
Leno, 29, is coming into the final year of his contract meaning Inter can negotiate a pre-contract from January 2022.
    ‘I’M A FAN’

    XHAKA DECLINED VACCINE
Covid-19 sufferer Granit Xhaka declined to be vaccinated, Swiss football chiefs have revealed.
Arsenal midfielder Xhaka is isolating and missing Switzerland’s three World Cup qualifiers this month after his positive test yesterday.
And Blick quote Swiss FA head of communications Adrian Arnold as saying: “He’s a player who isn’t vaccinated. We left this up to each player. It’s a personal decision of each player – just like any other person in Switzerland.
“All the other players in the team have been vaccinated or have recovered [from Covid] – so they are more or less safe, at least from a medical point of view.
“One is never quite sure. Accordingly, we have a very high vaccination rate. Now, unfortunately, Granit got caught. From a sporting point of view, it is a shame for us at this important moment.”
    CEDRIC FIGHTS FOR ARSENAL FUTURE
Portugal right-back Cedric Soares is determined to stay at Arsenal next season, according to football.london.
Fenerbahce were linked with the former Southampton star before the transfer window closed for Prem clubs on Tuesday night.
The Turkish deadline is not until next Wednesday, September 8.
But it’s claimed the 30-year-old hopes to establish hjimself in Mikel Arteta’s long-term plans.
    IT’S BEEN A WHILE
Arsenal have been stuck on three Premier League titles for over a decade.
They’ve had to watch Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea fight it out at the top.
The Gunners have, however, spent around £150million this season and are expected to have a big season.

    LEND A HAND
Leno has conceded the same amount of goals as he has made saves so far this season (9).
Time for Aaron Ramsdale to get a go between the sticks?

    BIG BEN
Ben White finds himself third on Arsenal’s all-time most expensive signings list.

    IT’S ALL GUNN HORRIBLY WRONG
Arsenal chief executive Vinai Venkatesham has sent an email to all the club’s staff in which he called for everyone to bounce back after a ‘hugely disappointing start’ to the season, writes DYLAN TERRY.
The Gunners have lost their first three games of the Premier League campaign, conceding nine goals and failing to score.
The dreadful early run has left them rock bottom of the table amid growing pressure on Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta – but he has received backing in the form of transfer funds, with the club topping the charts as the biggest spenders in the Premier League this summer.
And Venkatesham wants them to build on that by turning things around on the pitch.
In an email obtained by the Evening Standard, he said: “Of course, I write this update against the backdrop of a hugely disappointing start to the season.
“I know how tough this is for all of you, both as supporters and employees, with criticism coming from all angles.
“At times like this it is critical we stick together and stay positive. We have a very important run of games coming up after the international break and I’m confident we can and will come out fighting.”
    TOM’S A STARTER
Summer signing Takehiro Tomiyasu will wear the No18 shirt for Arsenal this season.

    GUNNING FOR GLORY
    Arsenal spent big this summer.

    ‘THEY DON’T CARE’
Ian Wright slammed Fifa and Uefa for not doing enough to tackle racism after Hungary fans abused England players on Thursday, writes KEALAN HUGHES.
Raheem Sterling, 26, and Jude Bellingham, 18, were both subject to monkey chants from the home crowd.
And the Puskas Arena was full despite Hungary being forced to play games behind closed doors by Uefa due to fans displaying racist and homophobic banners during Euro 2020.
But since the 2022 World Cup qualifying match fell under Fifa jurisdiction, fans were allowed in, something which Wright could not beleive.
He said during ITV’s coverage of the match: “You can’t believe that two organisations can’t get together and give them a three-match ban.
“The sad thing is that black players will know – especially when there’s a full stadium there – that they are going to get racially abused because they’re banned as it is, they’re allowed back in so as soon as someone like Sterling is getting fouled, they know they’re going to get the abuse.
“It’s in their workplace that this is happening. I think it’s embarrassing. I don’t know what to say about Uefa and Fifa. They don’t care enough. They don’t care enough to do anything about it.
“We’ve got to say ourselves, like Gareth so rightly said, we’ve got our own problems. It’s only a couple of weeks ago that someone got arrested for abusing Jadon Sancho.
“So, of course, we’ve got our own problems but that doesn’t mean you can’t condemn that kind of behaviour.
“The banners, the videos, the armbands, the everything, the gestures… they don’t do anything.
“It’s all laughable, they don’t do anything. You’ve got to come down hard on people.”

    RED DEVILS DEBUT
Arsenal midfielder Albert Sambi Lokonga made his senior debut for the Belgium national team yesterday.
The Red Devils won 5-2 against Estonia.

    NEXT FIVE
Arsenal can finally get a win on the board when they take on Norwich City at home.

    MUST WIN
Arsenal flop Shkodran Mustafi has got his career back on track after joining Spanish outfit Levante, writes CHISANGA MALATA.
The Germany international had been without a club following the expiration of his short-term contract with Schalke at the end of the 2020/21 season.
The centre-back was in talks to join Italian outfit Torino last month, although the Serie A side opted not to take a punt on the 29-year-old.
Levante promptly swooped and have subsequently handed the defender an 18-month contract at the Estadio Ciudad.
An excerpt of a club statement read: “Levante UD has reached an agreement with Shkodran Mustafi (04/17/1992, Bad Hersfeld, Germany) for the incorporation of the footballer to the ranks of the Levantine team until June 2023, with the option of one more season.”
An elated Mustafi said: “From the first moment I liked the idea of coming to Levante.”
He later added: “We are going to give everything to take the club as high as possible.”

Serge Aurier (right) is reportedly keen to sign for ArsenalCredit: AFP
The Ivorian defender’s next step remains to be seen but an incredible switch to his old team’s bitter rivals is said to be of interest.
Sky Sports claim the right-back has informed Arsenal of his interest as he looks to find a new club in England.
Mikel Arteta is nonetheless already well-stocked for the position having signed Takehiro Tomiyasu on deadline day.
The £20million Japan international will compete with Calum Chambers, Cedric Soares and Ainsley Maitland-Niles for a spot in the team.
Hector Bellerin left for Real Betis on loan having also been put up for sale by his club.
Aurier was speculatively linked with Real Madrid and AC Milan early in the summer window, after speaking publicly of his hope to move.

    DROGBA TROLLS GUNNERS OVER WILLIAN
It would have been Mission: Impossible for outgoing wideman Willian to transform Arsenal single-handedly.
But Chelsea legend Didier Drogba could not resist the ultimate dig after the former Blues superstar exited the Emirates for home-country club Corinthians on deadline day.
Drogba tweeted: “Thank you agent Willian, your mission is over” – along with a picture of Arsenal propping up the Prem table.
And his mischief went further as he added two other ex-Chelsea players who made the switch to the Gunners.
But David Luiz and Petr Cech achieved far more at Arsenal than Willian – with the latter now back at Stamford Bridge as an advisor.

    WILL MO GO?
Arsenal have received an “official offer” from Besiktas for Mohamed Elneny and want to include him on their UEFA list by the end of today.
The Turkish Super Lig side are in a rush to get a deal done for Elneny, so they can register him for their UEFA Champions League campaign.
That deadline slams shut on September 2, so Besiktas want a deal done as soon as possible. And Besiktas are reported to have made a move for the player they had on loan in 2019/20.
NTV Spor report an “official offer” has been forwarded to Arsenal.
    FOUR’S TO BE RECKONED WITH
When you’re bottom of the Premier League with no goals scored and nine concededfrom tr three games, any win is worth parading.

GUNNERS TAUNTED FOR BEATING BRENTFORD KIDS
Arsenal have finally recorded their first win of the season against a Premier League side… but it was a friendly against Brentford’s KIDS.
The Gunners defeated the ‘Young Bees’ 4-0 at London Colney on Thursday – and are getting a bit of stick from fans on Twitter.
Arsenal played a strong team for the behind-closed-doors fixture, with Ben White and Gabriel Magalhaes returning to the defence.

The two played in a back three with Pablo Mari, who missed their 5-0 defeat to Manchester City at the weekend.
Arsenal won thanks to goals from Magalhaes – who was replaced by Rob Holding after 69 minutes – Lacazette and a surprise brace from Cedric.
The news pleased Gunners fans after they lost 2-0 to Brentford in their Premier League opener in August.
One supporter asked Arsenal on Twitter: “So does this mean we’ve won 4-2 on aggregate?”
And another wrote: “Better late than never, lads.”
But Brentford played an inexperienced team against Mikel Arteta’s side, with the club’s website describing the XI as the ‘Young Bees’.
    ODEGAARD LOVES ‘STABLE’ GUNNERS
Martin Odegaard has explained that ‘stability’ is the reason he is happy to be back at Arsenal, having previously struggled to get that at former club Real Madrid.
He said: “I am so happy to be back in Arsenal. I loved it here from the first day I came in January.
“I wanted stability. I wanted to settle down somewhere with a lot of good players who want to establish the club back in the top, with a good manager.
“That’s why I think Arsenal is pretty perfect for me.”
    ‘IMPORTANT POINT’
Lucas Torreira declared that joining Fiorentina represents a key step in his career as he was unveiled to the media at a news conference on Thursday.
He said: “I think it’s an important point in my career. This is a very good team. It’s too early to talk about targets, but I’m sure that the work the coach is doing and his tactics – which I’ll learn more about this week – are well-suited to my approach to the game.
““[I’ve had] [Unai] Emery, [Diego] Simeone and now [Vincenzo] Italiano. I’ve always watched Serie A. I watched Spezia a lot last season and I’m pleased he’s here at Fiorentina. Right now I’m trying to understand what he wants me to do, so I can help the team to do well.”
    ‘FOCUS ON YOUTH’
Arsenal chief executive Vinai Venkatesham believes the club’s transfer window shows they are moving in the right direction.
The Gunners were Europe’s biggest spenders before Tuesday’s deadline, paying £156.8m on new additions.
Ben White (£50m), Martin Odegaard (£34m), Aaron Ramsdale (£30m), Takehiro Tomiyasu (£19.8m), Albert Sambi Lokonga (£15m) and Nuno Tavares (£8m) all moved to the Emirates Stadium this summer.
He said: “Our approach for this window was framed by fully recognising that we are not where we want to be on the pitch – finishing eighth last season, with no European football for the first time in many years.
“This is well below the standards each of us all have, and of course that our fans rightly demand of us, which is to be competing for the biggest trophies in the game.
“While we would love to jump from where we are to where we want to be in an instant, we need to be realistic that the gap is too large to do that. As such, our activity this window has been focused on youth.”
    TICKED THE RIGHT BOXES
Arsenal signed Takehiro Tomiyasu instead of Brighton’s Tariq Lamptey due to worries about the right-back’s height.
The Athletic claim the Gunners had reservations about Lamptey’s height and felt that he could be targeted by aerial crosses to the back post.
The same hang-ups were had over Norwich ace Max Aarons, which led Arsenal to go for Tomiyasu instead.

    MIND WAS SET
Willian looked like he was going to stay at Arsenal this summer but when Corinthians came calling his mind was made up.
And he has revealed he turned down offers from elsewhere to return to his native Brazil.
He told ESPN: “To make this decision, we have to think about everything, about the whole situation.
“But when I saw that it was only Corinthians. Some clubs tried to cross, but I said ‘no, it’s just Corinthians’.
“I want to thank the president, the entire board for all the effort to get me back, the players, all the fans. A person who dreamed of my return, my mother, unfortunately, is not among us.
“Thanking my family, my wife, my father, my daughters, everyone who is here rooting for me. I can’t wait to start playing.”
    REALLY INTER HIM
Inter Milan are claimed to be eyeing Arsenal’s Bernd Leno as the long-term successor to Samir Handanovic.
The German shot-stopper was linked with a potential move away from the club this summer, but rumours cooled after Euro 2020, and the Gunners have since signed Aaron Ramsdsale to come in as his back-up.
Tuttosport claim the Serie A champions are interested in both Leno and Andre Onana, a player who has also been linked to Arsenal.
    ONE MO DEAL?
Besiktas have made an “official offer” for Arsenal midfielder Mohamed Elneny and want to include him on their UEFA list on Thursday.

    MISSED OPPORTUNITY
Bacary Sagna has admitted he wished he would have stayed at Arsenal to help deliver them another title under Arsene Wenger.
Sagna, speaking to Football.London , claimed that one or two more experienced players in what was a youthful side, could have helped them over the line.
He said: “I think it could have made a difference.Especially in my first year. It marked me the most because we had 10 points at the end of March I think and we let it slip in a split second.
“Maybe if we had a player who had been in this position and been champion before, he would have made everyone quiet and would have made everyone focus on one game.
“We were focusing more on the team chasing us and we gave too many points away.”
    ‘DOESN’T LOOK GOOD’
Sead Kolasinac appears to have picked up an injury on international duty away from Arsenal.
He went off injured in Bosnia and Herzegovina’s World Cup qualifier against France on Wednesday night, with Jules Kounde receiving a red card.
And his manager at international level, Ivaylo Petev, issued a worrying statement, telling Haris Mrkonja: “I just spoke to him. He will have to do some tests tomorrow. But for now it doesn’t look good.”

    ‘PERFECT FOR ME’
Martin Odegaard has explained that ‘stability’ is the reason he is happy to be back at Arsenal, having previously struggled to get that at former club Real Madrid.
    HEC OF A DEAL
Arsenal had wanted £20million for Hector Bellerin this summer but instead ended up allowing him to join Real Betis on loan for free.
That’s according to ABC Sevilla, who cover how the Spaniard ended up at Betis at the end of the transfer window despite having been deemed an ‘unattainable footballer’ at one point.
They detail the defender’s ‘heart and his efforts’ to join the La Liga club this summer and realise a childhood dream of playing for them.
According to their information, Betis met with Bellerin’s agents in May, and they worked up a scenario that was eventually realised on the final day of the market.

    ‘MY REGRET’
Granit Xhaka was denied a transfer to Roma by Arsenal despite wanting the move, a director at the Serie A club has claimed.
Xhaka was linked with a switch to join Jose Mourinho’s side but eventually signed a new contract to keep him at the Emirates Stadium until 2024.
Roma director Tiago Pinto has suggested that the 28-year-old was keen to join Mourinho at Roma. He would have had a far better start to the new season as Mourinho has won both of his opening games in charge.
He said: “The market is closed and today I have fun, because we bought so many players but everyone asks me about the midfielder.
“Everyone knows we were after Xhaka, he wanted to come to Roma, but Arsenal didn’t release him. It’s my regret for this transfer market.”
    XHAKA UPDATE
The Swiss FA have confirmed that Granit Xhaka was not vaccinated against Covid-19 before testing positive for the virus while on international duty.
The midfielder was absent from last night’s friendly game with Greece after undertaking a PCR test yesterday. He’s now a doubt for upcoming World Cup qualifiers with Italy and Northern Ireland.
Asked about the situation, the Swiss FA’s head of communications Adrian Arnold said:
“Granit Xhaka was not vaccinated. He’s a player who isn’t vaccinated. We left this up to each player, it’s a personal decision of each player – just like any other person in Switzerland.
“We have issued a recommendation that everyone vaccinate. But he decided for himself personally. And it is also his right not to be vaccinated.”
    ‘AGENT WILLIAN’
Chelsea legend Didier Drogba could not hold back from trolling Arsenal over ‘agent’ Willian after the midfielder was allowed to leave the club.
Willian struggled for form in his year playing for Arsenal and terminated his contract to move to Corinthians this week.
Drogba has rubbed salt in the wound by referencing other successful Chelsea players who went on to have a difficult time at the Emirates.
The former Chelsea star wrote on Twitter : “Thank you agent Willian, your mission is over, like David Luiz and Petr Cech.”

    BIG DEMANDS
Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah priced himself out of making a move to London rivals Crystal Place late in the transfer window.
That’s according to talkSPORT and their transfer insider Alex Crook, who has been speaking about the failed move before the deadline.
Crook claims Crystal Palace did make a move for Nketiah, but haggling over a fee with Arsenal wasn’t the problem.
Crook said: “One Premier League chief executive said the problem with the Crystal Palace deal wasn’t Arsenal’s asking price.
“It was the demands of his agent, in terms of agent’s fees, and it was Eddie Nketiah’s wage demands that have priced him out of a move from Arsenal this transfer window.”
    BISS PLEASE
Manchester United, Arsenal and Liverpool are set to battle it out for Brighton star Yves Bissouma, according to reports.
Graham Potter’s side managed to fend off any interest over the summer with their price tag but they may not be so lucky in January.
According to Metro’s Aden-Jay Wood, ‘several clubs’ including Man United, Arsenal and Liverpool have ‘long-standing interest’ in Bissouma.
Surprisingly, Brighton received no official bids for the 25-year-old over the summer.
But interest could be ‘revisited’ in January.

    ‘THEY CHOSE PEPE’
Wilfred Zaha has revealed he almost signed for Arsenal when Unai Emery was in charge, but the Spaniard instead brought in Nicolas Pepe.
The Crystal Palace star told Jamie Carragher on The Greatest Games podcast: “I had a conversation with the manager, actually.
“He was just like, ‘we don’t need to go through much’. He’s seen me play, he knows I can change games at any time and stuff like that. It was like, ‘yeah, we’d love to have you’.
“And I was just like, ‘I’d love to come’. The conversation was rather straightforward because I’ve played against him when he’s managed Arsenal, he’s seen what I can do, he’s seen my work rate, what I can add to the team.
“Obviously, it was up to the club who they chose, and obviously they chose Pepe over me.”

    NIGHTMARE
Martin Odegaard has lifted the lid on his thoughts about Arsenal’s All or Nothing documentary on Amazon Prime.
The new signing, who spent last season on loan at the Emirates, admitted that having cameras following the team’s every move isn’t his ‘favourite thing’.
Arsenal’s media chief Mark Gonnella claimed the fly-on-the wall documentary will provide fans with behind-the-scenes access and a ‘unique insight’ into the Gunners’ 2021-22 campaign.
At a press conference on Tuesday, Odegaard opened up on his reservations about the documentary, saying: “I must admit that it’s not my favourite thing to have cameras everywhere.
“You automatically think a bit more about what you are saying when there are cameras there, but the crew is discreet.”
    BELLER-OUT
Hector Bellerin was offered on loan to Newcastle this summer before he made the move to boyhood club Real Betis.
It seems Mikel Arteta was desperate to offload the Spaniard, with Takehiro Tomiyasu arriving on deadline day to replace Bellerin.
The defender still has two years left on his Gunners contract but will need to impress in La Liga if he is to win back a place under Arteta.

Gary Neville has been left unimpressed by the transfer strategy imposed by Edu and Mikel Arteta this summer.
Neville isn’t convinced the six additions will instantly improve a struggling Arsenal side, and thus, he has called on the Gunners’ more senior players to step up and galvanise the squad.
He told Sky Sports: “There are no signings I look at and think, ‘they excite me’, but they do have a group that need to come together quickly and form a team.
Sometimes it’s not the signings they bring in at Arsenal, it’s the senior players you look at and think, ‘what are they getting from them?’
They have to start working for each other on the pitch and be difficult to beat before they worry about winning loads of matches. They’ve been very easy to beat so far this season, which is not a good trait.”

    BETTER CALL SOL
Arsenal legend Sol Campbell has offered to help his old club overcome their defensive issues. The Gunners have made a torrid start to the new season, conceding nine goals in three games as the pressure begins to mount on boss Mikel Arteta.
The 73-cap England international told talkSPORT: “I’d love to go there and help them out.
“There is a serious problem there and I’m happy to help, even if it’s a couple of days a week.
The tricks of the trade and little things, there is a blind-spot there and I’d help them out all day long.
“It’s been happening a lot and it doesn’t matter who plays at the back, it seems to be the same type of occurrences.
“I think it’s a young team, there’s great footballers but I think they just need the know-how, the little nuggets of information that someone like me or someone else can give over to them.”

    SLOWEST SUMMER SPENDING SINCE 2015
According to analysis by the Deloitte Sports Business Group, this summer represented the lowest gross spending between season window since 2015.
The analysis suggests top-flight clubs spent a combined £1.1billion before 11pm last night, 11% less than last summer’s window.
And Deloitte report that the gross spending is down 20% on 2019, largely due to the Coronavirus pandemic.
Despite that the number of players signed by Premier League clubs actually increased.
Last summer 132 signings were made, while 148 new deals were announced before yesterday’s deadline.
RON: REJOINING UTD IS MY BEST DECISION
Cristiano Ronaldo says he is back at Manchester United to win trophies rather than for sentimental reasons.
But the Portugal superstar, whose 2003-6 Old Trafford spell was legendary, added: “I think it’s the best decision that I have made.
“I’m so happy and glad, and I want to carry on again, to make history, to try to help Manchester achieve great results, to win trophies and number one of them, to win great things.”

    SENIOR GUNNERS LACK LEADERSHIP SKILLS
Gary Neville has questioned the leadership skills of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Alexandre Lacazette and Granit Xhaka.
The Manchester United legend told Sky Sports: “There’s no real sort of signings that I look at and think, wow, you know, they really excite me.
“But what they do have is a group of players that need to come together as quickly as possible and form a team.
“I think with Arsenal that sometimes it’s not the signings that they bring in; it’s more the actual senior players that you look at and think, well, what are they getting from them?
“What are they getting from Aubameyang, Lacazette, Xhaka? Those players that you think would hold them together – the goalkeeper.
“They’ve got to really sort of get themselves right in the next few weeks and create an atmosphere and culture in that dressing room of one that they’re all together and aligned behind the manager together to get performances.”
    TAM THE MAN
Tammy Abraham has taken to Instagram to wish Reiss Nelson luck on loan at Feyenoord.
Abraham is a boyhood Arsenal fan, with the Gunners missing out on signing the 23-year-old this summer after being strongly linked with a move for him.
And Abraham has shown how close he is to members of the Arsenal squad with his message to Nelson.
He reposted a picture of Nelson’s Feyenoord announcement on his story, and wrote: “showtime broskiii.” in a vote of confidence for his pal.
    AOUAR ON
Arsenal and Tottenham could rekindle their interest in Houssem Aouar in January.
Both North London clubs were linked with a move for the 23-year-old Lyon playmaker over the summer.
A move failed to ever materialise but according to The Express he could be on his way to London before the season is over.
With the Frenchman’s contract expiring in the summer of 2023, Lyon may be forced to sanction a move before losing Aouar for a cut-price fee or even on a free transfer.
And with Aouar open to a new challenge elsewhere, a January move could well be on the cards.

    TIME RUNNING OUT
Arsenal legend Paul Merson believes Mikel Arteta does not have long before serious questions are asked of him at Arsenal.
It’s after the Gunners find themselves bottom of the Premier League table after three games – without scoring a goal.
And Merson believes if the situation is still the same by the next international break, Arteta could be relieves of his duties.
He told Sky Sports: “Mikel Arteta will have [un]til the October internationals.
“If they haven’t done anything by then he will be under pressure.”
    UPDATE ON AINSLEY
After Ainsley Maitland-Niles’ dramatic Instagram story in which he publicly stated he wanted to leave Arsenal, tensions now seemed to have eased between him and the club.
Journalist David Ornstein said during a live stream for The Athletic: “Ainsley Maitland-Niles has held clear-the-air talks with Mikel Arteta. For now, they have gone on to a better footing, normal service resumed, he’ll be back in training, and he’s said to be a key part of Arteta’s plans.
“I think actions now speak louder than words. A player who’s under contract until 2023 and wants game time desperately. He’s 24 years old now, so he’s coming into a really important period of his career.
“A key part of this was that Everton made an offer that Arsenal weren’t happy with – [a] loan with an option to buy, Arsenal see him as an academy product, a top player who’s had international honours – you either make us a really good loan offer, which by that, I presume means a high loan fee, or a permanent transfer. They turned down £20m last year from Wolves.
“But now they seem to be in a good space. And he’ll be staying at Arsenal for the coming season, or at least until January.”
    OUT OF LAC
Alexandre Lacazette is set to leave Arsenal on a free transfer next summer.
According to football.london the Frenchman has rejected a contract extension from the Gunners.
The 30-year-old was linked with a move away from North London with his contract expiring at the end of the season, but no move materialised.
It means Lacazette is free to agree a pre-contract agreement with foreign clubs from January 1, and this campaign looks set to be his last at Arsenal.
    SEAD’S DEMANDS
It was reported earlier that Sead Kolasinac was on the brink of a move to Turkish side Fenerbahce, according to football.london.
But the club’s President Ali Koc claims the move broke down for financial reasons, with Kolasinac’s demands out of reach for Fenerbahce.
And now those figures have been revealed.
Koc told Sporx: “[Kolasinac’s camp] contacted us and told us their demands. They asked for a three-year contract, €3million (£2.5m) a year [£50,000-a-week] with a €3million (£2.5) signing-on fee.
“The issue was brought [to us] before our coach arrived. He wasn’t interested.”
    SUMMER SPENDING
According to analysis by the Deloitte Sports Business Group, this summer represented the lowest gross spending between season window since 2015.
The analysis suggests top-flight clubs spent a combined £1.1billion before 11pm last night, 11% less than last summer’s window.
And Deloitte report that the gross spending is down 20% on 2019, largely due to the Coronavirus pandemic.
Despite that the number of players signed by Premier League clubs actually increased.
Last summer 132 signings were made, while 148 new deals were announced before yesterday’s deadline.
    CALLED OUT
Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville has questioned the leadership skills of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Alexandre Lacazette and Granit Xhaka.
He said: “There’s no real sort of signings that I look at and think, wow, you know, they really excite me.
“But what they do have is a group of players that need to come together as quickly as possible and form a team.
“I think with Arsenal that sometimes it’s not the signings that they bring in; it’s more the actual senior players that you look at and think, well, what are they getting from them?

“They’ve got to really sort of get themselves right in the next few weeks and create an atmosphere and culture in that dressing room of one that they’re all together and aligned behind the manager together to get performances.”
    WINDOW WONDERS
SunSport reckons this team could certainly challenge for the title if they played together – especially with the devastating attack.
Arsenal’s Ben White is at centre-back, but he is the only one of Arsenal’s six summer signings selected for the starting line-up.
Meanwhile, the likes of Kurt Zouma, Martin Odegaard, Emi Buendia, Joe Willock, Dan James, Odsonne Edouard and Patson Daka were among the best signings to make the fantasy bench.
The total transfer cost of the starting XI, three of whom signed on deadline day, adds up to a whopping £457.5m.

    OUTGOINGS
It’s been a busy summer of outgoings as well as incomings at the Emirates.
Here’s a reminder of TWENTY players who have left the club:

    Reiss Nelson – Feyenoord, loan
Dani Ceballos – end of loan
Mat Ryan – end of loan
    Lucas Torreira – Fiorentina, loan
    David Luiz – released
    Mark McGuinness – Cardiff, undisclosed
Trae Coyle – FC Lausanne-Sport, undisclosed
Zech Medkley – KV Oostende, undisclosed
    Dinos Mavropanos – Stuttgart, loan
    Daniel Ballard – Millwall, loan
    Ben Sheaf – Coventry, undisclosed
    Matt Smith – Doncaster, loan
    Matteo Guendouzi – Marseille, loan
    William Saliba – Marseille, loan
    Tyreece John-Jules – Blackpool, loan
Harry Clarke – Ross County, loan
    Joe Willock – Newcastle, £25m
    Miguel Azeez – Portsmouth, loan
Alex Runarsson – OH Leuven, loan
Hector Bellerin – Real Betis, loan

    MOST EXPENSIVE SIGNINGS
Two of Arsenal’s most expensive signings came during the summer transfer.
And with Martin Odegaard’s deal from Real Madrid still undisclosed it may well be three.
The £50million paid for Ben White makes him Arsenal’s third most expensive signing ever, while goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale rounds off the list.
Do you think the Gunners have paid over the odds for the two Englishmen?
Or do you think it’s money well spent with both players possessing significant future potential?

    ‘VERY NAIVE’
Former Premier league defender Danny Mills has hit out at Eddie Nketiah after reports emerged he rejected a move to Crystal Palace due to his high wage demands.
And Mills said: “He’s daft, that’s what it is. He’s being badly advised. Sometimes you have to take a step backwards to take two steps forwards.
“You have to back yourself and say: ‘You know what, it’s not really what I want right now, I might have to take a little bit of a cut, but I’m going to go there.
“‘I’m going to go there and score goals, I’m going to show how good I am and then the season after that or the season after that, everyone is going to be coming in after me because I’ve scored 15, 20 goals in the Premier League.
He went on to say: “I think that’s very naive, because what will happen is you’ll have this season where you will do absolutely nothing, you end up on a free transfer and everyone is going, ‘well, you’ve not played for a year, you don’t really know what you’re doing’.
“You’re always best to go out and play, no matter what.”

    NORTH LONDON DERBY
Arsenal made an offer to sign Tottenham new boy Emerson Royal, reports suggest.
According to Marca, the Gunners offered Barcelona £8.5million plus Hector Bellerin for his services.
But Barcelona rejected the offer, with the cash-strapped club only willing to deal in cash.
The Catalan club are already well equipped at right-back with Sergino Dest, so did not feel the need to bring another in.
So instead they accepted Spurs’ offer that could rise to £26million and the full-back will play on the white side of North London, rather than the red.
    ‘NOT MY FAVOURITE THING’
Arsenal summer signing Martin Odegaard has already revealed there is something he doesn’t like at the club.
Gunners chiefs have given Amazon cameras all access to their 2021/22 season ahead of Arsenal’s ‘All or Nothing’ Prime documentary.
But the 22-year-old Norway international is not a huge fan of the cameras.
He said: “I must admit that it’s not my favourite thing to have cameras everywhere.
“You automatically think a bit more about what you are saying when there are cameras there, but the crew is discreet.”
    MORE OF THE MESSAGE
Arsenal chief executive Vinai Venkatesham also said: “Our approach for this window was framed by fully recognising that we are not where we want to be on the pitch.
“Finishing eighth last season, with no European football for the first time in many years.
“This is well below the standards each of us all have, and of course that our fans rightly demand of us, which is to be competing for the biggest trophies in the game.
“Whilst we would love to jump from where we are to where we want to be in an instant, we need to be realistic that the gap is too large to do that.
“As such, our activity this window has been focused on youth.”
    GUNNER STRATEGY
Arsenal chief executive Vinai Venkatesham has sent a message to Arsenal’s playing and coaching staff, detailing what the Gunners’ strategy was for the summer and for future windows.
In a message to the club, he said: “Our strategy is to fill our squad with some of Europe’s most exciting young talent, with players from both our academy and further afield, that can grow and develop together under Mikel to take us where we want to get too.
“Whilst this will not be overnight, we can make positive progress, and it gives us the best route to future success in a sustainable way.”
    ‘ALL LOVE’
Arsenal legend Ian Wright has taken to social to praise the departing Hector Bellerin.
The 26-year-old joined La Liga side Real Betis in a loan deal on deadline day, and Wright was quick to thank Bellerin and wish him well.
He posted a picture of himself and Bellerin together at the Emirates to his Instagram story.
And he captioned it: “Always represented the club with pure love and respect.
“We have all learned so much from you, Enjoy your time at Betis. All love.”
    WHERE THERE’S A WILL
One of the conditions for Arsenal ripping up Willian’s contract at the Emirates was that his new club had to be one outside of Europe.
According to outlet UOL, transfer chief Edu did not want Willian to join a Premier League or European rival.
There was interest in the Brazilian from Lyon, Marseille and AC Milan, but in the end the 33-year-old sealed a return to Brazilian club Corinthians.
And if Willian had tried to force a move through to another club in Europe, his exit from the club may not have been as amicable as it was.

    DONE DEALS
And in case you lost track of who Arsenal have signed over the past few weeks here is a reminder.

    Nuno Tavares (Benfica – undisclosed)
Albert Sambi Lokonga (Anderlecht – £15m)
    Ben White (Brighton – £50m)
Martin Odegaard (Real Madrid – undisclosed)
    Aaron Ramsdale (Bournemouth – £30m including add-ons)
    Takehiro Tomiyasu (Bologna – £19.8m)

Which one of those players are you most excited about, Gunners fans?
    CONTRACT EXTENSIONS
It’s been a busy summer at Arsenal in terms of new signings, but the Gunners have also tied down some of their best talents to new long term deals.
Kieran Tierney and Emile Smith-Rowe both put pen-to-paper on new contracts in a huge boost for the club.
At 23-years-old Tierney is expected to captain Arsenal in the future, while 21-year-old Smith-Rowe has been the shining light in a dismal start to the season so far.
19-year-old goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo has also signed a new contract with the club over the summer.
    SOL SPEAKS
Arsenal legend Sol Campbell is optimistic that Takehiro Tomiyasu has what it takes to succeed at Arsenal.
The deadline day signing from Bologna can play either at right-back or at the heart of defence and has been brought in to add some steel to Arsenal’s leaky backline.
Campbell told talkSPORT: “£19.8million, defender – good, 22 [years-old], looks strong, another potential player. That is what we’re looking at, at the moment.
“I’d rather sell a couple of players, bring in a player that is ready to go – that can give you instant success and pad it out with a couple with potential.”
    HEY BIG SPENDERS
Arsenal were the Premier League’s biggest spenders in the summer transfer window after landing Takehiro Tomiyasu on deadline day.
The Gunners brought the right-back in from Bologna, confirming the signing just 15 minutes before the window slammed shut.
He cost the club just shy of £20million – taking their overall expenditure to almost £150m after Nuno Tavares, Albert Sambi Lokongo, Ben White, Martin Odegaard and Aaron Ramsdale joined in a big-spending yet underwhelming window.
Joe Willock was the only sale of note as he joined Newcastle.
According to Transfermarkt’s figures, it took Arsenal’s net spend to £121m – more than any other club.
