Tottenham to rival Arsenal in £65m transfer swoop for Dusan Vlahovic with Antonio Conte desperate for Harry Kane support

The ambitious Italian only took charge of the North Londoners at the beginning of this month.
But he has already made it clear to chairman Daniel Levy and managing director of football Fabio Paratici that he needs more options in attack.
Vlahovic is top of Conte’s shopping list after bagging 21 goals for Fiorentina in Serie A last season.
The frontman, 21, has netted eight goals in 12 league games this term and Italian giants Juventus are also keen.
He was already on Paratici’s radar when the Italian joined Spurs as their new recruitment guru last summer.
With Vlahovic’s contract due to expire in 2023, Fiorentina are said to be willing to cash in on their £65million-rated marksman.

But Tottenham are facing stiff competition from the Gunners, City and Juve — although reports in Italy claim the player’s agent is refusing to take Arsenal’s calls amid speculation he has agreed terms with another club.
If that club is Juventus, it could be a double disaster for Conte — as the Old Lady has been offering another Spurs target, winger Dejan Kulusevski, as a makeweight in the deal.
Paratici was the man who signed the Swedish wideman, 21, for the Turin giants back in January 2020.
Tottenham are also keeping tabs on Club Brugge’s 20-year-old attacking midfielder Charles De Ketelaere ahead of the January transfer window.
Although the Belgian is said to prefer a switch to Prem champs City.
But despite calling for reinforcements in January, Conte is refusing to give up on the club’s forgotten stars.
He has told outcasts Dele Alli and Harry Winks — tipped to leave after being frozen out by former bosses Nuno Espirito Santo and Jose Mourinho — they still have futures at the club.
And they have responded well to being drilled hard by Conte during the international break.
The England pair are among ten senior stars who were put through their paces by the Italian and his coaching staff this week, while their pals were away with their countries.

Matteo Guendouzi has no intention of returning to Arsenal as Marseille loanee reveals he wants ‘long-term’ transfer

MATTEO GUENDOUZI has seemingly ruled out a return to Arsenal next summer, with the Marseille loanee insisting he wants a ‘long-term’ transfer.Guendouzi, 22, is currently on loan at Stade Velodrome after finding himself frozen out by Gunners boss Mikel Arteta.

Guendouzi last featured for Arsenal in June 2020, when he was involved in a bad-tempered clash with Brighton during Project Restart.
He was loaned to Hertha Berlin last season, before returning to Ligue 1 with Marseille in the summer.
The French side have an option to make their loan move for Guendouzi permanent.
And the ace appears keen on making that happen next year after scoring three goals and assisting three more in 16 games this season.
He told RMC Sport: “I am on loan. I am focused on what I have to do with Marseille.
“I want to be a part of Marseille for the long-term.

“I am very comfortable here and I want to continue have fun in Marseille.”
However, reports claim Newcastle want to hijack Marseille’s move.
Eddie Howe is keen on beefing up his midfield.
And Newcastle are apparently doing their best to ‘meddle’ in Marseille’s bid to keep Guendouzi.
Other targets include fellow Frenchman Adrien Rabiot of Juventus, as well as Wales star Aaron Ramsey.

Arsenal legend Nigel Winterburn urges board to back Mikel Arteta in transfer market after Josh Kroenke refuses to sell

After a terrible start to the season, the North Londoners’ form has transformed and they’ve now gone 10 games unbeaten – winning eight of those.
And Winterburn, 57, wants to see the club back the Spaniard by ensuring he has money to spend in the transfer market.
He said: “I think that the fans will always have a voice, particularly if they’re not happy with how things are being run behind the scenes.
“Arsenal are starting to invest a bit more money in the transfer market, they’ve certainly invested heavily this season.
“We have the owners there, we just need to make sure that we are starting to travel back in the right direction.
“We’ve fallen away from that top four, but now we need to go back in that direction.

“As long as Arteta has finances to keep improving the squad, then that would be my main concern.”
Kroenke, 41, recently gave a rare interview ahead of Arsenal’s win against Watford – a game he watched from the stands alongside a mystery woman.
And the American – son of unpopular owner Stan Kroenke – emphatically stated the club is not for sale.
Winterburn remained coy on whether the Americans will sell in the end but said fans will be able to see the club is making progress under Arteta.
Speaking on behalf of FreeSuperTips, Winterburn added: “You’ll always get speculation about someone wanting to take over the big clubs, I guess the question would be do I see the Kroenkes selling?
“The answer is probably no. At the moment, we’re seeing a settling period where perhaps fans are starting to see that we’re turning the corner.
“There is still a way to go but we’ll know a lot more by the end of the season.”
Kroenke took in a Gunners match in person for the first time since their 2-0 home win over Brighton in May.
But most of the talk before the game surrounded Kroenke’s declaration that his family are going nowhere.
Ek made a £1.8bn offer in May which is still on the table.
It was reported at the time that any approach to buy the club would be rejected and Kroenke Jr is sticking to that line now.

Speaking to Sky, Kreonke said: “We get bids for the club all the time, from many different parties around the world and that speaks to the strength of the Arsenal.
“It’s a wonderful institution, Arsenal Football Club is a global brand and my only response to anything is: ‘The club is not for sale, we’re just getting started’.
“We’ve only really owned the club since 2018. We have a young manager, we have a young squad and we’re charting our path to the future.”

Cristiano Ronaldo held talks over Arsenal transfer in backstreet restaurant before jumping on BUS and joining Man Utd

ARSENAL chiefs met with Cristiano Ronaldo in a backstreet restaurant to discuss the possibility of him joining the club before he agreed to sign for Manchester United. The Portuguese superstar secured his move to Old Trafford in August 2003 and would go on to score 118 goals in 292 games for the Red Devils during his first spell at the club.

But that breakthrough stint at Man Utd came after he had met with Arsenal’s former vice-chairman David Dein and the club’s chief scout.
Dein recounted the story of their meeting with Ronaldo at an event for the Twinning Project at the London Palladium on Monday.
He said: “We are now turning the clock back when Cristiano was 17 and playing in the Portuguese Under-19 team.
“He was spotted by our chief scout. Arsene [Wenger] said: ‘Look, do you want to go over and see him play?’ I said: ‘Yeah sure, I’ll go across’.
“I went with our chief scout and I remember seeing the Portuguese Under-19 team play and Cristiano did really well.
“Then the agent, who was with us at the time, said: ‘Well, believe it or not he is going to meet us for dinner afterwards’.

“We had a dinner at a sort of a curb-side restaurant. He was a really nice guy and he actually gave me his shirt. It’s one of several shirts that I’ve got hanging in my cupboard at home. He gave me his shirt that he played in.
“We discussed a little bit of money and the agent said: ‘Well, let him think about it overnight’. Then Cristiano said: ‘I’ve got to go now, my bus is going’.
“He jumped on his bus and he went home. The following day I was discussing with the agent and about six hours later Manchester United blew us out of the water.
“That was the Cristiano Ronaldo story. I think we were being used a little bit as a stalking house, because I think he was always going to go to Manchester United at the time.”
It wasn’t to be for Arsenal and Ronaldo, much to the disappointment of the Gunners as it turned out they missed out on one of football’s greatest ever players.
Ronaldo returned to Man Utd for a second spell at the club in the summer, departing Juventus after three seasons with the club.

Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah targeted by Borussia Monchengladbach in January transfer swoop with contract expiring

BORUSSIA MONCHENGLADBACH are considering a January bid to offer Eddie Nketiah a way out of his Arsenal frustration.Nketiah has largely been kicking his heels in North London having made just two appearances this season and making it clear he wants to leave for the good of his career.
Eddie Nketiah has become a forgotten player at Arsenal
The 22-year-old’s contract runs out at the end of the season but boss Mikel Arteta was forced to keep him at the Emirates last summer because of his lack of striking depth in his squad.
Arsenal want the England Under-21 international to sign a new deal.
But with chances at a premium, having failed to even play a single minute in the Premier League this season, Nketiah is resigned to the knowledge he needs to move on for regular game time.
German club Gladbach can offer just that to the striker, and will be free to talk to the player in January because his deal runs out in the summer.
Nketiah’s existing deal runs out in June, although his next club will need to pay the Gunners compensation for developing the player.
The Londoner was linked with various teams throughout last summer ‘stransfer window, including Crystal Palace.

But a move never materialised and he can negotiate his next contract with foreign clubs – to start in July – from January.
Nketiah’s situation, therefore, may force the Gunners to accept a low transfer fee this winter – putting suitors on red alert. More
