Arsenal ‘set to hold William Saliba transfer talks with Marseille desperate to sign defender permanently’

ARSENAL will hold transfer talks with Marseille who are reportedly desperate to sign William Saliba on a permanent basis. The 20-year-old Arsenal defender is on a year-long loan at Marseille, but has been such a hit that they’re hoping to extend his stay past the end of this season.

The 6’4″ centre-back has helped Jorge Sampaoli’s side earn six clean sheets in their 13 league games so far this season, leaving them in fourth place in Ligue 1.
And has become a pivotal part of their team as they look to challenge for Champions League places and progress through the Europa League.
He has received rave reviews for his performances domestically and in Europe so far this season, with Marseille unbeaten in all four of their Europa League games.
And transfer expert Ekrem Konur has reported that the club are hoping to sign Saliba permanently and will open talks about a move with Arsenal soon.
Saliba joined the Gunners on a five-year deal for £27m from Saint Etienne in July 2019, but has yet to feature for them since making the switch to North London.
He had only made 16 league appearances for Saint-Etienne when Arsenal signed him, and he was immediately loaned back to France for the 2019-20 season.

The Frenchman then returned and made six appearances for Arsenal under-23s last season, before being shipped back off to Nice on loan in January 2020.
The loan was successful, as Saliba started 20 out of a possible 22 league games, helping the club finish ninth in the French top flight.
And his stock has continued to rise this season, becoming a hugely influential part of the Marseille dressing room and the bedrock of their defence.
He also recently become captain of France’s under-21s, who are top of Group H in the U21 European Championship qualifiers, conceding just once in five games.
It is unclear whether Arsenal would be prepared to entertain any offers for the player, with Mikel Arteta reportedly viewing him as an exciting prospect for the future.
But if they were to be tempted into selling, they would more than likely seek to at least recoup the £27m they paid for him more than two years ago.

Arsenal keeping tabs on Florian Wirtz, £45m Raheem Sterling transfer, Balogun EXCLUSIVE, Lacazette and Vlahovic UPDATES

ARSENAL could loan out Folarin Balogun with the 20-year-old in need of some match experience.Balogun has made three appearances for the Gunners this season and he told reporters: “I feel like I am ready for a new challenge.”
The Gunners are also in pole position to secure the signing of Raheem Sterling after Xavi tore up Barcelona’s January plans.
The England winger has 18 months left on his contract and Man City are believed to be willing to accept an offer of around £45m
But one man who may be heading to Barca is Arsenal’s striker Alexandre Lacazette, who Xavi is believed to still retain an interest in.
Meanwhile, Arsenal fans have been given the hairdryer treatment by former rival boss Sir Alex Ferguson.
Fergie has laid into the Wenger Out brigade, which he sees as having got the legendary Gunners boss sacked in 2018.
We’ve also the very latest on Dusan Vlahovic, with Arsenal reportedly battling with North London rivals Tottenham for his signature.
And in a boost for Arteta, Granix Xhaka has returned to training as he continues his comeback from a knee injury.
Follow ALL of the latest updates below…
    RED DRAMA
Arsenal have been handed a huge boost ahead of their match against Liverpool next weekend.
Kop stars Sadio Mane and Jordan Henderson were both sent home from international duty with injuries, joining Roberto Firmino in the treatment room.
However, Mane could be back in time for the Prem clash as his Senegal boss Aliou Cisse described the Reds star’s injury as nothing serious.
Cisse told reporters: “He is an important player for the team. We took him out as a precaution and there is nothing serious.”
    ROWE ON
England boss Gareth Southgate is banking on Arsenal star Emile Smith Rowe and Crystal Palace ace Conor Gallagher being the future of the Three Lions.
Rowe and Gallagher were handed their England debuts this week and Southgate envisions the pair being the national team’s spine.
Southgate said: “We think Conor [Gallagher] and Emile [Smith Rowe] are playing better than others we could have called in. Simple as that. The door is never closed.
“I like the idea of bringing young players in because you’re investing in England’s future.
“It would be easier perhaps in the short term to bring in an old player but I’m not certain there are older players playing better than those two in the positions they’re playing.”
    GLOBAL GUNNERS
Arsenal had five players in action during this weekend’s international break.
The Gunners face Liverpool next week in the Premier League and boss Mikel Arteta will hope to have all his national stars fit for the match.

    GUNNER COME
Real Madrid star Luka Jovic is reportedly open to a move to Arsenal.
The striker is said to be fed up with sitting on the bench at Real and wants to leave to pursue first-team football, according to AS.
The Gunners have been chasing Jovic for quite some time so they could pounce on the Serb in the New year, although they haven’t made a concrete offer as of yet.
Arsenal reportedly see Jovic as the ideal replacement for want-away attacker Alexandre Lacazette.
    RYAN MOVE
Arsenal legend Kevin Campbell reckons the Gunners will make a move for Mat Ryan as a replacement for Bernd Leno.
Leno’s lost his first-team spot to Aaron Ramsdale in Arsenal’s goal and could seek a move elsewhere.
And Campbell reckons Real Sociedad stopper Ryan would be the ideal back-up option for Ramsdale.
In fact, Campbell’s surprised Arsenal didn’t keep a hold of Ryan after bringing him on loan during the second half of last season.
Campbell told Football Insider: “I was surprised that the club didn’t make a concrete move for Ryan.
“Obviously Edu and Arteta had their eyes on Aaron Ramsdale.
“Leno is going to leave next year so I think we could see Mat Ryan come back as number two to Ramsdale.”
    STERLING OPPORTUNITY
Arsenal legend Kevin Campbell reckons Manchester City star Raheem Sterling could possibly join the Gunners.
Sterling’s been linked with a move away from the Etihad recently and Campbell thinks the Emirates could be his next destination.
The winger worked with Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta when he was a coach at City and Campbell believes that could play a part in Sterling’s decision to head to North London.
He said to The Highbury Squad on YouTube: “I think there’s mileage in it. He [Arteta] really influenced him.
“Nobody can argue that his output and return as a wide player. And he scored over 20 goals as a wide man, that’s huge.
“If someone like him becomes available we have to be involved. We have to.”
    RAHEEM THE DREAM
Arsenal legend Sol Campbell thinks Raheem Sterling COULD join Arsenal.
The Gunners have been linked with a move for the England international for over a year now.
And Sterling’s situation at Manchester City doesn’t seem to be sorted.
Campbell thinks Arsenal have a chance of signing him.
Speaking to The Highbury Squad on YouTube, he said: “I think there’s mileage in it. He [Arteta] really influenced him.
“Nobody can argue that his output and return as a wide player. And he scored over 20 goals as a wide man, that’s huge.
“If someone like him becomes available we have to be involved. We have to.”
Barcelona are also interested in the winger.
    DUSAN DEMAND
Spurs and Manchester City have been told they can have Serbian striker Dusan Vlahovic in January – if they cough up £70 million, writes PHIL THOMAS.
Tottenham boss Antonio Conte has told his new employers Vlahovic, 21, is the first big-name signing he wants, to ease the pressure on Harry Kane.
But City are also keen, and have regularly run the rule over the Fiorentina forward, who turned down a new deal last month and is out of contract in 2023.
The Italians know they will lose the 21-year-old soon, and want to cash in at a premium in the upcoming window.
Vlahovic, who hit 21 goals last season, has carried on his impressive form this term, with 15 more in 19 games.
The Viola ace’s performances are said to have also caught the attention of Spurs’ bitter rivals Arsenal, who are also on the lookout for attacking reinforcements.
    LIV WITH IT
Title challengers Liverpool are up next for Arsenal next weekend.
The Reds did, however, lose their last outing against league high-flyers West Ham.
David Moyes’ West Ham won the game 3-2 at the London Stadium.

    MORNING, GUNNERS FANS
Arsenal are reportedly keeping tabs on Bayer Leverkusen starlet Florian Wirtz.
According to El Nacional, Chelsea, Man Utd, City, Barcelona and Real Madrid are also keen on the 18-year-old midfielder.
Despite it being claimed that the Blues and Los Blancos have shown the most interest in prising the midfielder away from Germany, the player is believed to prefer a move to Barca.
In other news, Nicolas Pepe could be on his way out of the Emirates after failing to make his mark following a £72million switch from Lille.
The 26-year-old has never really found his feet at Arsenal since his big money transfer two years ago and the Gunners are now eyeing other targets in his position.
According to Football.London the club are working on a potential exit for the inconsistent winger.
Meanwhile, Jack Wilshere has revealed that he’s considering retiring from football to become a manager.
The 29-year-old remarked: “I have to think about it.
“That is why I am doing the coaching. I have been forced into doing it a little bit but I am grateful for the opportunity.”
And finally, Arsenal starlet Folarin Balogun is open to leaving the club on loan to develop his career.
The 20-year-old said: “I do feel ready for a new challenge but at the same time I’m not sure what the challenge might be.
“It might be a loan, of course, or if I’m needed at Arsenal, I’m here, and the gaffer knows that as well.”He said I should have trust in him and said he had a plan for me. That’s a big reason I did stay and decided to re-sign.”
    FLO RIDA
Arsenal and Man Utd are just two clubs that are keeping tabs on Bayer Leverkusen starlet Florian Wirtz.
According to El Nacional, Chelsea, Man City, Barcelona and Real Madrid are also keen on the 18-year-old midfielder.
It has been claimed that the Blues and Los Blancos have shown the most interest in prising the midfielder away from Germany.
Though the player is said to be keen on a move to Barca, with the youngster a fan of new boss Xavi.
Though any potential suitor may have to wait until 2023 to sign Wirtz, who has chipped in with seven goals and as many assists from 14 games this season.

    WILD ABOUT FLO
EXCLUSIVE – Arsenal striker Folarin Balogun is at the top of new Middlesbrough boss Chris Wilder’s shopping list.
Wilder knows his old club Sheffield United are also keen on the 20-year-old hitman.
But he was at the England Under-21 game to watch ‘Flo’ first-hand last week.
Boro need more firepower and Wilder has been told he will get funds to land players in the new year market.
The Gunners are yet to decide what to do with Balogun in the second half of the season but if he goes out on loan there will be a sizeable queue.
Wilder was named Boro boss last week, after eight months out of a job.

    PEP TALK
Nicolas Pepe could be on his way out of the Emirates after failing to make his mark following a £72million move from Lille.
The 26-year-old has never really found his feet at Arsenal since his big money transfer two years ago and the Gunners are now eyeing other targets in his position.
According to football.london the club are working on a potential exit for the inconsistent winger.
But despite Emirates bigwigs being happy to take just £25million for the Ivory Coast international, there is little interest from other clubs.
It means the Gunners could have a job on their hands trying to sell Pepe with the player under contract at the club until the summer of 2024.
He has played just five minutes of football in Arsenal’s last three Premier League games and is yet to score in the league this campaign.

    DONE AN DUS-TED
Arsenal are reportedly not looking to bring Fiorentina striker Dusan Vlahovic to the Emirates in Janaury.
The Gunners have been linked with a move to sign the 21-year-old, but a move doesn’t seem likely.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Goal journalist Charles Watts said: “My understanding of it is – and I tweeted this out – is he’s not one of Arsenal’s targets when it comes to a new striker.
“A lot of the talk is about January and from what I understand, it’s not happening.
“There is certainly reasons why it’s good for Fiorentina that Arsenal want him.
“But as far as I’m aware, there’s been no talks and negotiations.”
    SEAD TO SEE
Arsenal defender Sead Kolasinac suffered a ‘shocking’ injury while playing for Bosnia and Herzegovina against Finland.
Kolasinac was forced off injured after just 39 minutes following the nasty challenge from Minnesota United’s Jukka Raitala.
The Finnish defender was rightfully sent off by Premier League official Michael Oliver.
Kolasinac, 28, has made only four appearances for Arsenal this season and he fights for his spot in Mikel Arteta’s squad.
But the horror tackle and subsequent injury will not help his case if he faces time on the sidelines.

    DRAW DRAMA
Vivianne Miedema helped Arsenal snatch a dramatic stoppage-time draw with Tottenham in an enthralling Women’s Football Weekend encounter.
The WSL ace’s header cancelled out a Rachel Williams goal to deny Spurs’ boss Rehanne Skinner a birthday win at The Hive.
While the result saw Tottenham break their hoodoo of WSL losses to their rivals they were denied a famous win and the chance to leapfrog champions Chelsea to second spot.
Skinner, who turned 42, said: “You come into the game with the players so focused and ready to put in a performance.
“I was just hoping as all managers do, that they pull that together and deliver on that.
“Massive credit to them. I am so proud of their performances and everything they do as a team together. It’s a great point on my birthday.

    MAT FINISH
Arsenal could re-sign goalkeeper Mat Ryan in 2022 to replace Bernd Leno should he depart, claims former striker Kevin Campbell.
Ryan impressed during his loan spell last term, but the club decided against permanently signing him as he linked up with Real Sociedad.
Speaking to Football Insider, he said: “I was surprised that the club didn’t make a concrete move for Ryan,.
“Obviously Edu and Arteta had their eyes on Aaron Ramsdale. As controversial as it was at the time, what a signing.
2Ramsdale was getting stick before he signed. You have to look at it as a very justified decision. Ramsdale has been a revelation.
“Leno is going to leave next year so I think we could see Mat Ryan come back as number two to Ramsdale.”
    WHITE NOISE
Arsenal icon Ian Wright has lauded the centre-back partnership of Gabriel and Ben White.
Speaking on the Kelly and Wrighty Show, he said: “I love the fact even with Benjamin White when he’s coming out and he said: ‘I don’t watch much football, I just play football’.
“I love the fact that he’s brave enough and strong enough to admit that because he can deal with what comes with that.
But when you look at his performances next to Gabriel, it’s very solid with the goalkeeper. It’s a very good team, those three are very solid.
“They’re footballing centre-halves – into Thomas Partey, into Sambi Lokonga.
Now Arsenal are looking like, with the structure and the way the team is playing, you can see if it has to go long they’ll do that, but if a defender has to run it into the midfield and then go from there, we saw Ben White setting up Emile Smith Rowe’s goal the other day.
“So we’re looking at a team now with a lot of confidence.”
    WRIGHT DOUBLE
Arsenal youngster Folarin Balogun has revealed he idolised Ian Wright as a kid after Martin Keown made comparisons between the pair.
The 20-year-old striker used to study footage of Wright and even modelled his playing style off of the Gunners legend.
When asked about Keown’s comparison, Balogun said to the Mail: “It was obviously nice to be compared to a club legend by Martin.
What Ian’s done for Arsenal is amazing, what he’s done in his career is amazing.
‘Growing up I looked at Ian Wright, looked at his game, taken things from his game. I’ve just got to carve my own name out like he did.”
    CAMP DE BEEK
Arsenal legend Kevin Campbell has urged his former club to take Donny van de Beek off Manchester United’s books.
De Beek’s had a torrid time at United but Campbell reckons the Dutch star is a hidden gem that could flourish with Arsenal.
“Speaking on the Highbury Squad YouTube channel, Campbell said: “There’s been a rumour about van de Beek at Manchester United.
“It’s (not playing under Solskjaer) not his fault, how is it his fault?
“He was at Ajax, he was unbelievable at Ajax. Gets signed by Manchester United and they won’t play him.
“I don’t know, I’m just saying it’s a rumour. I only want what’s best for Arsenal and I believe that van de Beek can play if given the opportunity. The boy can play.”
    NO THOMAS NO PARTEY
Arsenal have been dealt a big injury blow ahead of their crucial Premier League clash against Liverpool.
Midfield regular Thomas Partey will not be involved for Ghana against South Africa on Sunday as he’s still receiving some treatment at his club.
Partey missed the Gunners’ 1-0 win over newly promoted Watford last weekend with a thigh strain, and it has potentially thrown an appearance against title hopefuls Liverpool next weekend into doubt.
But according to Goal reporter Charles Watts, Arsenal do have some hope he could make the trip to Anfield with their impressive ten-game unbeaten run on the line.
Should he miss the game, Ainsley Maitland-Niles could be handed another start in the middle of the park.
    PART FIXED
Arsenal are reportedly hoping that Thomas Partey will be fit to play against Liverpool next week.
Partey missed the Gunners last game against Watford, but they’re optimistic he’ll be back to help them take on the Reds, according to Goal journalist Charles Watts.
He said on his YouTube channel: “My understanding of it is that Arsenal are still hoping that he will be available for that Liverpool game.
“And this is a more precautionary thing that rather a serious injury.”
    AUB IS WELL
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang gave Arsenal an injury scare while on international duty with Gabon.
The striker scored a penalty in Gabon’s 1-0 win over Libya but was stretchered off towards the end of the match.
But Aubameyang’s injury doesn’t seem that serious and he was later seen dancing along with the Gabon squad on Instagram.
An injury to one of their main goal threats would’ve presented Arsenal with a massive headache ahead of their Prem match against Liverpool next weekend.
    RAM’S THE MAN
Ian Wright reckons Arsenal keeper Aaron Ramsdale is a major presence in the Gunners dressing room.
Ramsdale’s been in superb form on the pitch but Wright doesn’t think his influence stops there.
Speaking on the Kelly and Wrighty show, he said: “I think they must be even more surprised with what he brings to that dressing room.
“You can see it when he’s playing. What you do see is how the players just continually come round him.
“He’s a rallier and it’s something that Arsenal have needed.
“People constantly talked about Arsenal when it wasn’t going well [that there was] no leaders, no characters in the dressing room.”
    AL SMILES
Albert Sambi Lokonga has revealed that he’s very happy at Arsenal.
The midfielder moved to the Emirates this summer from Anderlecht and has no regrets about his transfer so far.
He said: “Yes, it’s gone a bit quicker than anticipated, but I was well prepared physically, mentally and on a football level.
“I don’t want to say that I had the required qualities but apparently they suit the manager. I’m fighting for my spot, I play games and I’m getting minutes.
I’m very happy. I made the right choice, but I already knew that.

    MUM’S THE WORD
Emile Smith Rowe has revealed that his first England cap is going to his mum.
Rowe earned his first Three Lions cap following a string of impressive displays for Arsenal this season.
The 21-year-old made his debut as a second-half sub in England’s 5-0 win over Albania last night, but he wants to share the accolade with his mother.
When asked what he plans to do with the cap, Rowe said “It’s going straight to my mum, so thank you”
    ‘NOT ENOUGH’
Arsenal legend Kevin Campbell reckons Gunners boss Mikel Arteta should offload Nicolas Pepe if doesn’t come good this season.
Pepe joined the Gunners two years ago for £27m from Lille, but Campbell hasn’t been impressed by what he’s seen thus far.
Speaking to the BBC, Campbell said: “This is the proving season for Pepe, I believe.
“He will get a chance, it might be in the Carabao Cup, but he will get a chance. He’s got to shine, he has to. If he doesn’t…
“What is it, the third year of a five-year deal? We’re still waiting for him to make the real break out, although he broke out a little bit at the back end of last season. Is that enough for a record signing? It’s not enough!”
    ROWE SUPPORT
Folarin Balogun has revealed that he’s inspired by Arsenal team-mate Emile Smith Rowe’s career rise.
Rowe’s become a staple in the Gunners first team and his performances have seen him earn a call-up to England’s national squad.
And Balogun takes comfort in the fact that Rowe was playing U23’s football last year.
He said: “This time last year Emile was playing Under-23s football. So it shows how quickly it can turn around.
“It’s not overnight so it would be naive for me to think the process would happen overnight. When you’re ready you take your opportunity.”
Balogun also explained that his Gunners pals Rowe and Bukayo Saka have been giving him advice on how to get to the next stage of his career.
He added: “I’m not at the level I want to be. I speak to Emile and Bukayo [Saka] a lot. They tell me to be patient.
“They tell me it is not an overnight thing, which it hasn’t been for them. It would be naive for me to think that.
“You just have to keep practicing, then you see the rewards and when you are ready you will take the opportunity.”
    IDOL BECKS
Emile Smith Rowe has revealed that David Beckham is his favourite England player.
Arsenal star Rowe made his England debut this week and explained that he was in awe of Beckham when he was growing up.
When speaking to the Three Lions YouTube channel, he said: “My England hero? I’m gonna go for Becks.
“I have to, I have to say Beckham first.
“The set-pieces, the free-kicks and all that — everything about him man. I have to give it to him.”
    BOSS JOB
Jack Wilshere has revealed that he’s considering retiring from football to become a manager.
Wilshere’s playing career has hit the skids after a string of injuries which have forced him to contemplate hanging up his boots.
Which is why the 29-year-old is going for his coaching badges aswell as training with former club Arsenal in a bid to relaunch his career.
When asked about retirement and his future by the BBC, Wilshere said: “I have to think about it.
“That is why I am doing the coaching. I have been forced into doing it a little bit but I am grateful for the opportunity.”
    GUNNER GO
Arsenal starlet Folarin Balogun is open to leaving the club on loan to develop his career.
The 20-year-old’s admission comes after England U21 boss Lee Carsley suggested Balogun had outgrown Arsenal’s youth setup.
Responding to Carsley’s claims, Balogun said: “I do feel ready for a new challenge but at the same time I’m not sure what the challenge might be.
“It might be a loan, of course, or if I’m needed at Arsenal, I’m here, and the gaffer knows that as well.
“He said I should have trust in him and said he had a plan for me. That’s a big reason I did stay and decided to re-sign.”
    MORNING, ARSENAL FANS
Last night was a special one for Arsenal starlet Emile Smith Rowe.
The London Colney graduate replaced Raheem Sterling in the 77th minute of England’s 5-0 demolition of Albania to make his international debut.
After the match, he tweeted: “Buzzing to make my debut at Wembley. Great team performance.”
Bukayo Saka, an unused substitute alongside Aaron Ramsdale, posted a picture of pal Smith Rowe on Instagram.
He captioned it: “What a player.”
Elsewhere, Kieran Tierney’s Scotland sealed a play-off berth for next year’s World Cup in Qatar with a 2-0 victory over Moldova.

And the Gunners full-back provided a telling contribution.
The Tartan Army were in a commanding position, with goals by Nathan Patterson and Che Adams giving them a two-goal lead.
But disaster nearly struck with ten minutes remaining, when Steve Clarke’s side conceded a penalty.
Veteran goalkeeper Craig Gordon made a superb save, but the ball appeared at Moldova’s mercy to tap in the rebound.
But Tierney somehow made up ground to complete a superb tackle, preserving Scotland’s clean sheet and allaying any late fears.
Meanwhile, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang admitted that he ‘doesn’t care’ about Spurs hiring Antonio Conte.
When asked about the appointment by Sky Sports, he responded: “I don’t care. I’ll be honest, I really don’t care. That’s not my problem, really…”
    PIZZA THE ACTION
Emile Smith Rowe capped off an incredible 12 months by making his England debut tonight.
Upon this achievement, Arsenal reminded fans that just 367 days ago, the attacking midfielder was playing for their youth team in the Papa John’s Trophy.

    HE’LL DU – By SunSport’s Paul Jiggins
Tottenham are plotting to snatch Serbian sensation Dusan Vlahovic from under the noses of rivals Manchester City and Arsenal.
New Spurs boss Antonio Conte wants another striker in January to take the weight off Harry Kane.
The ambitious Italian only took charge of the North Londoners at the beginning of this month.
But he has already made it clear to chairman Daniel Levy and managing director of football Fabio Paratici that he needs more options in attack.
Vlahovic is top of Conte’s shopping list after bagging 21 goals for Fiorentina in Serie A last season.
The frontman, 21, has netted eight goals in 12 league games this term and Italian giants Juventus are also keen.
He was already on Paratici’s radar when the Italian joined Spurs as their new recruitment guru last summer.
With Vlahovic’s contract due to expire in 2023, Fiorentina are said to be willing to cash in on their £65million-rated marksman.
    UNITED FRONT
Arsene Wenger’s plans to host a World Cup every two years have been dealt a blow by unimpressed Premier League clubs.
The ex-Arsenal boss had put forward a scheme to play the tournament biennially rather than once every four years as it currently is.
The Frenchman is now Fifa’s chief of football development and has also suggested extending international windows.
But all 20 top flight clubs have unanimously rejected the proposals amid concerns for player welfare and a packed domestic calendar.
Premier League chief executive Richard Masters confirmed the united front and warned against tinkering in future.
He said: “The Premier League is committed to preventing any radical changes to the post-2024 Fifa International Match Calendar that would adversely affect player welfare and threaten the competitiveness, calendar, structures and traditions of domestic football.”

The 54-year-old achieved promotion with Sheffield United in 2019 and hopes to do it again with Middlesbrough.
He said: “We will all do whatever we can to get back to the Premier League.

“It’s got to be our ambition to get back to the Premier League. We all want to be playing the big guns and that has got to be my ambition and the staff’s as well.
“The supporters want the big names to be coming here and seeing their side take them on. It’s a long way off at the moment, but we dare to dream.”

Arsenal happy to sell flop Nicolas Pepe for HUGE loss… but can’t find buyer for £25m transfer asking price

And chiefs at the club have seemingly ran out of patience with the winger.
Emile Smith Rowe and Bukayo Saka’s brilliant form has kept Pepe out of the squad of late – while Mikel Arteta is also lining up other targets.

The Gunners are reportedly keen on a move for Juventus youngster Dejan Kulusevski.
He has been a bit part player this season in Turin, averaging just 32 minutes per game in Serie A.
The Swede has even changed his agent with a view to forcing a transfer after falling down the pecking order in Turin.
And Arsenal are prepared to battle it out with bitter rivals Tottenham for the signing of the wide-man.
Club Brugge winger Noa Lang has also been linked with a move to the Gunners.
A £25million January bid is reportedly being prepared for Lang – the exact price tag slapped on Pepe’s head.
Arteta is keen to bring the 22-year-old to the Emirates in January as he looks to bolster his attacking options.
But the Arsenal boss faces competition from the likes of AC Milan to land the winger’s signature.

Arsenal unopposed for £45m Raheem Sterling transfer as Barcelona pull out, Lacazette and Dusan Vlahovic LATEST

ARSENAL are in pole position to secure the signing of Raheem Sterling after Xavi tore up Barcelona’s January plans.

    EM-BELIEVABLE
Here’s that special moment for Emile Smith Rowe tonight.
The first of many, Arsenal fans?

FULL TIME: ENGLAND 5 ALBANIA 0
The Three Lions ease through the second-half to seal an excellent 5-0 victory over Albania at a packed Wembley Stadium.
Harry Maguire set Gareth Southgate’s side on their way in the ninth minute, nodding home Reece James’ delivery.
Harry Kane then made it 2-0 with a close range header, before teeing up Jordan Henderson to make it three.
The Spurs star then made it 4-0 with a left-footed drive, before sealing his perfect hat-trick with an excellent right-footed volley on the stroke of half-time.
A low-key second-half was to follow, but fans were treated to the international debut of Emile Smith Rowe, with the Arsenal star coming on for Raheem Sterling in the 77th minute.
    GUNNER BE SPECIAL
Emile Smith Rowe is on for his England debut!
Arsenal’s No10 replaces Raheem Sterling in the 77th minute for his first Three Lions senior appearance!
    Still 5-0 at Wembley.
    COME ON, GARETH
England might be cruising to victory, but Arsenal fans are all still waiting for the same thing…
Surely this man will come on at some point, right?

    ROY RAGE
Manchester United legend Roy Keane made a cheeky dig at Tottenham prior to tonight’s England clash with Albania that Arsenal fans will love.
Referencing Kane’s slump after not getting a move to Manchester City, the Irishman said: “He’s got to liven up. He’s got to liven up.
“He’s got to look at himself and say, ‘get over these disappointments’.
“Listen, he plays for Spurs he should be used to disappointment.”
HALF TIME: ENGLAND 5 ALBANIA 0
Wow, what a perfect start for the Three Lions at a sold out Wembley Stadium tonight.
Manchester United star Harry Maguire nodded them into the lead in the ninth minute, before a Harry Kane double either side of a Jordan Henderson strike put Gareth Southgate’s side into a commanding position.
The Spurs man then made it a perfect hat-trick, when he volleyed home a corner on the stroke of half-time.
    This could finish any number!
    AUBA AND OUT
Arsenal skipper Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has opened up on his failed switch to Tottenham in 2012 as he revealed he doesn’t care about Antonio Conte’s appointment.
Speaking in an interview with Sky Sports, presenter Joe Thomlinson asked the Gabon international what his first thoughts were of Conte’s arrival.
To which he said: “I don’t care. I’ll be honest, I really don’t care. That’s not my problem, really…”
He was then asked would he rather retire from football or play for Spurs, with Aubameyang recalling the time he was snubbed by the club during his Saint-Etienne days.
Quick to answer, the 2020 FA Cup winner remarked: “You don’t need to ask the question, you know it already! Retire. Even more because a few years ago, I was close to signing for Tottenham but in the end, I don’t know what they did. So retire for sure.
“I was in St-Etienne or at the beginning at Borussia Dortmund. I came here and went to the stadium at White Hart but the day after they just never gave us an answer or called back.
“So I was like ‘OK, no worries’. That’s why whenever I play against them they know.”

    GETTING SHIRTY
One England fan at Wembley tonight is a particularly big fan of Arsenal star Bukayo Saka.
    And who can blame her?

    ROWE WHAT YOU’RE MADE OF
England are underway against Albania in front of a sell-out Wembley crowd!
Will this man get on for his senior debut?

    LEAP OF FAITH
Aaron Ramsdale has revealed he’s no different to football fans worldwide as he admitted to watching replays of his wondersave ‘about 100 times’.
The Arsenal keeper pulled off the sensational dive to stop James Madison’s sharp free kick against Leicester last month.
He told Watford keeper Ben Foster on his YouTube channel: “I’ve watched it 100 times already honestly.
“He had a sighter before, which hit the wall, and I’ve trained with him a lot. I thought he was going to reverse it because it’s so close to the box. I thought he’s going to put a load of pace on it my side.
“Our goalie coach has talked a lot about saving on ‘your post’. So I’ve taken maybe a negative position, protecting my side.
“I’ve seen it’s not gone my side and just gone, just gone, and it looks better off the bar doesn’t it?”
Foster then paid tribute to his fellow keeper’s agility and reactions to make the save after seeing the ball late over the wall.
Ramsdale went on to admit he needed a slice of luck to make the follow-up save that denied Jonny Evans on the line.
He added: “The photos look so good. But obviously the second one was a bit of luck. I didn’t have a clue where it was.”
    BULL FIGHT
Manchester United and Arsenal could be set to miss out on RB Leipzig’s talented youngster Dominik Szoboszlai.
LaLiga giants Atletico Madrid have entered the race to sign the 21-year-old and reports suggest they could be in pole position.
AS reports United are a more likely Premier League destination than the Gunners if Szoboszlai does favour a move to England.
The North London club tried to bring him to the Emirates last year but he opted for a five-year deal in Germany instead.
Any renewed offer would need to trigger the player’s reported €60million (£51m) release clause.

    GUNNER GET ON?
Arsenal stars Emile Smith Rowe, Bukayo Saka and Aaron Ramsdale are on the bench as England take on Albania at Wembley this evening.
Smith Rowe and Ramsdale will be hoping to earn their first senior caps tonight, should they get on.

    CURTAIN CAL
Roma are interested in Calum Chambers, according to reports.
The Serie A side have recently been linked with Premier League aces Harry Winks and Ruben Loftus-Cheek.
And according to Corriere dello Sport, Chambers is the latest Premier League player to catch Jose Mourinho’s eye.
The defender has struggled for game time of late, with boss Mikel Arteta preferring Gabriel and Ben White at centre-half, and Takehiro Tomiyasu at right-back.
    ALL CED AND DONE
Arsenal right-back Cedric Soares has vowed to fight for his place in the team, after seeing Takehiro Tomiyasu take the starting berth this term.
He told ESPN: “I’m there fighting.
“Every week, every day, I will be there knocking [on the door], making him a problem — in a good way — that he needs to think who to put on the pitch.
“Of course, it is his decision. I respect that and he knows that. But I will not make it easier. Never. This is how I grow up in my career: fight and win.”
    A TIER ABOVE
Here’s Kieran Tierney in action for Scotland… and being sent flying!
Given the left-back recent injury woes, Arsenal fans must be wincing seeing him getting clattered like this.
Steve Clarke’s side are currently drawing 0-0 with Moldova.

    FLOP GUNS
After being rooted to the bottom of the Premier League table three games into the season momentum is starting to build at Arsenal under Mikel Arteta.
The Gunners are TEN games unbeaten in all competitions and just two points off the coveted top four places.
Arteta seems to be assembling a squad genuinely capable of challenging for Champions League football – but how did the squad look the last time they competed in Europe’s elite competition?
Bayern Munich were the visitors to the Emirates to take on Arsene Wenger’s side in the second leg of a last-sixteen tie in March 2017.
After being thrashed 5-1 in the first leg a dismal performance at home saw a repeat result – meaning the Gunners were humiliated 10-2 on aggregate.
Here SunSport takes a look at the starting side from their last Champions League outing.

    KICK-OFF!
Kieran Tierney’s Scotland are underway in Chisinau against Moldova!
Remember, a win would guarantee the Tartan Army a place in the play-offs for next year’s World Cup in Qatar.

    AUBA-WHELMING
Arsenal star Martin Odegaard has admitted that it was ‘frustrating’ to see offside Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang tap in his goalbound effort against Watford at the weekend.
He told Norwegian broadcaster TV2: “It was a pity.
“I saw it nicely from the side, it was going in.
“I knew as soon as he touched it that he was offside. It was frustrating, but we won. If they had equalised, it would have been tougher!”
    MAR TO COME
Gabriel Martinelli’s dad has offered an update on his son’s future at Arsenal.
He said: “There is no chance of him going to Corinthians or any other Brazilian club!
“Since he came back from an injury, he’s been playing a lot less than he would have liked. They even painted some proposals from Europe, but Arsenal has already warned that they will not release him.
“People like him a lot. Not only for what he plays, but also for his dedication. Martinelli is almost always the first to arrive for training and the last to leave.”
    TOP TIER
Arsenal star Kieran Tierney is back in action tonight, as he lines up for Scotland against Moldova in Chisinau.
The defender has missed recent games for the Gunners through injury.
Should Tierney and Co come out on top, they will book a play-off place for next year’s Fifa World Cup in Qatar.

    STER IT UP
Manchester City have reportedly placed a £45million release clause on Raheem Sterling.
That is according to Metro, who report that Sterling has recently fallen down the pecking order under Pep Guardiola with both Phil Foden and Jack Grealish being preferred.
The winger is about to enter the final 18 months of his contract at City – who had been keen to offer him a new long-term deal.
Those negotiations have now ended for the time being as neither the club nor the England international is willing to commit at the moment with the Gunners keeping tabs

Tottenham to rival Arsenal in £65m transfer swoop for Dusan Vlahovic with Antonio Conte desperate for Harry Kane support

With Vlahovic’s contract due to expire in 2023, Fiorentina are said to be willing to cash in on their £65million-rated marksman.

But Tottenham are facing stiff competition from the Gunners, City and Juve — although reports in Italy claim the player’s agent is refusing to take Arsenal’s calls amid speculation he has agreed terms with another club.
If that club is Juventus, it could be a double disaster for Conte — as the Old Lady has been offering another Spurs target, winger Dejan Kulusevski, as a makeweight in the deal.
Paratici was the man who signed the Swedish wideman, 21, for the Turin giants back in January 2020.
Tottenham are also keeping tabs on Club Brugge’s 20-year-old attacking midfielder Charles De Ketelaere ahead of the January transfer window.
Although the Belgian is said to prefer a switch to Prem champs City.
But despite calling for reinforcements in January, Conte is refusing to give up on the club’s forgotten stars.
He has told outcasts Dele Alli and Harry Winks — tipped to leave after being frozen out by former bosses Nuno Espirito Santo and Jose Mourinho — they still have futures at the club.
And they have responded well to being drilled hard by Conte during the international break.
The England pair are among ten senior stars who were put through their paces by the Italian and his coaching staff this week, while their pals were away with their countries.
