    Prem clubs in Raphinha boost
Chelsea and Arsenal have been handed in a huge boost in their respective pursuit of Leeds ace Raphinha.
That’s because Barcelona have been given until Thursday to mount a bid for the winger by Leeds.

However Leeds are growing frustrated with the Catalan giants and have given them the imminent ultimatum to begin business, according to Mundo Deportivo.

Lenglet’s move to White Hart Lane is on the brink of completion.
But it couldn’t been a different outcome if the Gunners pounced when they had the chance.
The Barcelona ace was presented to the Gunners but they opted to pursue Lisandro Martinez instead.
That’s according to football journalist Ryan Taylor, who said: “Lenglet has effectively been told by Barcelona he is free to find another club.
“And that saw him offered around to a number of clubs earlier in the window: including Spurs, Arsenal and Juventus.”
    Arsenal plan to sell duo

But Mikel Arteta wants to shed the dead weight from his squad to accomadate the new arrivals.
Among those Arteta’s keen to sell is Reiss Nelson and Alex Runarsson, Goal claim.

Arsenal are set to take on Nuremberg for their first taste of pre-season action at the Max-Morlock-Stadion.
And the sun has been out in Germany as the Gunners squad trained in preparation.
There were some new faces in the camp including Gabriel Jesus, who was only announced as an Arsenal player on Monday.

In the interview with CANAL+ SPORT he said: “We’ve both paid the share for being late quite heavily.
“He paid more but he was more late, a lot more.

    Real Madrid plan Asensio exit
Real Madrid want to cash in on Marco Asensio this summer amid transfer interest from Arsenal and Liverpool.
The Spaniard, 26, is keen to move in search of more game time with AC Milan also believed to be interested.
Asensio has just one year remaining on his contract which is why Real Madrid are willing to let him go.

The 26-year-old winger has been linked with the likes of Manchester United, Arsenal AND Manchester City.
Bayern though are keen to keep hold of the former Arsenal man – who scored 17 goals and provided 10 assists in all competitions last season.
The Bundesliga champions are planning a meeting with Gnabry and his representatives, according to German outlet Bild.
They are keen for Gnabry to extend his contract in order to fight off interest from elsewhere.
    Wright shares Jesus excitement
Ian Wright has given his opinion on what Gabriel Jesus will bring to Arsenal next season.
Wright said: “I started to think about what he brings and what he can do. I was thinking, he’s perfect. He’s perfect – I don’t think they have promised him anything, he is going to play.
“For him, to come to our place knowing that he’s our main man. See a player ready to be number one, go to a club that they want him to be number one, it’s got to be a massive incentive for him.
“If we are looking at Salah and Son sharing the Golden Boot from out wide and how Gabriel Jesus will play more regularly and hopefully score more goals.
“You don’t need to be in there as that number nine, scoring loads of goals to win the Golden Boot, you can do it from the wing.
“All that intense rivalry is needed (between Jesus, Smith Rowe, Nketiah and Martinelli) of quality players because everybody has to step up – that signing is an amazing signing in respect of what we want to do.”
    Jesus tipped for Arsenal success
Gabriel Jesus will flourish as the main man at Arsenal, according to Danny Murphy.
Murphy told the Daily Mirror: “I think being a bigger fish in a smaller pond and playing as a number nine and having the team being built around him will benefit him.
“I think he could be a brilliant signing for Arsenal, I think he could become somebody the fans love there.”
    Paqueta ‘snubs several Prem clubs’
Lucas Paqueta has reportedly snubbed the chance to join Arsenal, Tottenham and Manchester City.
North London rivals Arsenal and Spurs were both keen, while Man City also allegedly made contact with the player’s camp over a potential move.
Now ESPN Brazil claims that Paqueta is set to remain at Lyon.
They state that none of the English trio were able to advance talks with the South American’s representatives over a deal.
    Jesus mocked for choosing Arsenal
Gabriel Jesus has been ridiculed for joining “small club” Arsenal.
The jab was delivered by Brazilian media personality Neto who claimed the Gunners were a smaller club than South American minnows Portuguesa Santista.
Neto scoffed: “I saw that Gabriel Jesus went to Arsenal. Small club. Small club. Portuguesa Santista are bigger than Arsenal.
“Arsenal have won what in the last five years?”
    Saka’s here to stay
Arsenal will tie Bukayo Saka down to a new contract in the next six months.
That’s according to Kevin Campbell who thinks Saka’s not going anywhere despite his contract situation.
Campbell said: “He is already under contract.
“These things are not just going to get done in a couple of months. These things could take six months but Arsenal are not, trust me, they are not going to sell Saka in this window.
    “No chance. No chance.”
    Arsenal starlet signs deal
Arsenal starlet Taylor Foran has signed a professional contract with the club.
The 18-year-old defender’s been with the Gunners for over a decade.
And now he’ll be rubbing shoulders with the big boys next season onwards.
Speaking on his new deal, Foran said: “I’m absolutely buzzing, it’s been a dream come true.
“Everyone around the building is so nice, the vibe is just unexplainable, everyone is out to help each other and I just knew it was the right place for me to continue my journey.”
    Why Arsenal didn’t sign Bissouma
Arsenal didn’t sign Yves Bissouma because they’re focused on recruiting Youri Tielemans.
That’s the view of Arsenal icon Kevin Campbell who made the claims when asked why the Gunners didn’t battle Spurs for Bissouma.
He explained to the Highbury Squad: “I think we bypassed Bissouma because we want Tielemans.
“We want more of a progressive player in that midfield, somebody who can do the job in midfield but somebody who is going to be a goal-threat.
    Arsenal eye two more transfers
Arsenal are aiming to make two more signings before the transfer window shuts.
That’s according to club legend Paul Merson who claims Arsenal’s transfer supremo Edu gave him the heads up during a conversation last weekend.
Merson said: “They are looking good. I’ve seen Edu on Sunday and we had a little chat. I think they’ve bought well, they’re trying to get a couple more players in.
But Merson remained tight-lipped when pressed on who the new arrivals will be out of respect for Edu.
He added: “I can’t say that, he was talking to me in confidence.”
    Good morning Arsenal fans
Arsenal are pushing ahead with plans to sign a new midfielder this summer.
The Gunners are prioritising Leicester star Youri Tielemans for the role ahead of Lazio ace Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, according to Fabrizio Romano.
That is because Tielemans will cost the Gunners 40million less than Milinkovic-Savic.
The Belgium international’s contract expires in 2023, which means the Foxes could be open to letting him go on the cheap this summer, whereas Lazio are demanding £68m for the Serbia international.
But Arsenal, though, are still persistent in the transfer pursuit of Milinkovic-Savic.
The Gunners reportedly had a €55million (£47.2m) offer for the midfielder rebuffed as the Serie A side wanted more cash.
But the North Londoners are preparing to issue a new and improved bid for the 27-year-old, according to Il Messaggero.
However, Arsenal are reluctant to depart with the €65m (£55.8m) Lazio president Claudio Lotito is requesting.
Nevertheless, the Gunners are said to be in constant contact with the Serbia international’s agent Mateja Kezman to try and get a deal done.
Meanwhile, Ajax star Lisandro Martinez has allegedly told his club that he wants to quit and move to the Premier League.
Martinez is wanted by both Manchester United and Arsenal to bolster their defence.
The two clubs have both been haggling with the Dutch champions over the centre-back’s transfer fee.
But it is United that appear to be leading the chase after offering just shy of £40m for the Argentina international.
Now both the Red Devils and the Gunners have received a major boost after reports emerged that the 24-year-old has told Ajax he wants to depart for England.
Finally, Paulo Dybala is considering a move to the Premier League this summer.
Dybala officially left Juventus when his contract ran out at the end of last month and is now a free agent.
Inter Milan have been heavily linked with a swoop for the Argentina international, who met with the club’s vice-president Javier Zanetti just last month.
However, according to Sky Sport Italia, the Nerazzurri have put the forward on stand-by following the return of Romelu Lukaku from Chelsea.
The 28-year-old will now look to the Prem as his next potential destination as Arsenal have been in contact with his agent in a bid to lure him to North London.
Manager Mikel Arteta needs another centre-forward despite the arrival of Gabriel Jesus after he lost both Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Arsenal are unable to promise more minutes given Bukayo Saka already occupies a role on the right-flank, and Liverpool are in the same situation with Mo Salah.
Serie A champions AC Milan may hold an advantage in the race to sign Asensio because of that, though the Prem duo could offer more money.

Reports suggest both Arsenal and Liverpool would be willing to offer Asensio £110,000-a-week, considerably more than Real’s £70k-a-week offer.
Asensio is willing to stay at the Bernabeu but only if he receives a wage increase after his impressive 2021-22 season.

Arsenal PUSHING for Tielemans transfer after Milinkovic-Savic snub, Lisandro Martinez LATEST, Depay odds – latest

ARSENAL have made Leicester midfielder Youri Tielemans their next transfer priority signing, according to reports. It comes after the Gunners had a £47million bid for Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic rejected earlier this week, according to Italian newspaper Il Messaggero.
Lazio want at least £68m for his services – a fee of which the Gunners would be reluctant to pay.
And Tielemans is said to be available for a cut price £25m after refusing to sign a new deal with Leicester.

    Saka tipped for Arsenal stay
Arsenal star Bukayo Saka will not be leaving from the Emirates this summer.
That’s according to Arsenal legend Kevin Campbell who said to Highbury Squad: “He is already under contract.
“These things are not just going to get done in a couple of months.
“These things could take six months, but Arsenal are not, trust me, they are not going to sell Saka in this window. No chance. No chance”
    Arsenal’s first Dybs
Paulo Dybala is considering a move to the Premier League this summer.
Dybala officially left Juventus when his contract expired at the end of last month and is now a free agent.
Inter Milan have been heavily linked with a swoop for the Argentina international, who met with the club’s vice-president Javier Zanetti last month.
However, according to Sky Sport Italia, the Nerazzurri have put the forward on stand-by following the return of Romelu Lukaku on loan from Chelsea.
The 28-year-old will now look to the Premier League as his next potential destination as Arsenal have been in contact with his agent in a bid to lure him to North London.
Manager Mikel Arteta needs another striker despite the arrival of Gabriel Jesus after he lost both Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang
    Arsenal fixture amendments
Some of Arsenal’s Premier League fixtures have been amended ahead of the coming season.
The Gunners’ clash with Bournemouth on August 20 away will take place at 5.30pm instead of 3pm.
The same time change goes for the North Londoners’ meeting against London rivals Fulham on August 27 at home.
Arsenal’s match with Aston Villa at the Emirates has been moved from August 30 to August 31 at 7.30pm.
The big clash with Manchester United at Old Trafford will take place on September 4 at 4.30pm instead of September 3.
Arsenal vs Everton has been moved for September 11 at 2pm instead of September 10.
And Brentford vs Arsenal takes place on September 18 at 2pm instead of September 17
    The full Paq-age
Arsenal are among Premier League teams showing interest in Lyon star Lucas Paqueta.
According to ESPN Brasil, the Gunners, Tottenham and Manchester City have all held talks to sign Paqueta.
Discussions were reportedly held regarding a potential move in recent weeks.
But negotiations didn’t go further than the preliminary stage

    Lisandro Martinez demand
Ajax star Lisandro Martinez has allegedly told his club that he wants to quit the club and move to the Premier League.
Martinez is wanted by both Manchester United and Arsenal to bolster their backlines.
The two clubs have both been haggling with the Amsterdam giants over his transfer fee.
But it is the United that appear to be leading the chase after offering just shy of £40million for the centre-back.
Now both the Red Devils and the Gunners have received a major boost after reports emerged that the Argentina international has told Ajax he wants to depart for England
    Lisandro Martinez bidding war
Manchester United are confident of beating Arsenal to signing Lisandro Martinez after meeting with Ajax chiefs.
United have reportedly tabled a fee just shy of £40m for Martinez.
The Dutch champs’ new director of football Klaas-Jan Huntelaar travelled to London on Saturday to meet with United reps, according to the Mirror.
And after talks with Huntelaar, the Red Devils are said to be confident of beating the Gunners in the race to sign the centre-back.
The Manchester giants have made a bid worth an initial £35.3m, with a further £4.3m available in add-ons.
The total package works out at £39.6m, with the Amsterdam giants reportedly valuing the Argentina international at £43m.
Martinez would rather reunite with former boss Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford than join the Gunners.
According to The Athletic, United have “edged ahead as favourites” to land the 24-year-old for around £35m
    Arsenal insist on Milinkovic-Savic
Arsenal, though, are still persistent in the transfer pursuit of Lazio star Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.
The Gunners reportedly had a €55million (£47.2m) offer for Milinkovic-Savic rebuffed as the Serie A side wanted more cash.
But the North Londoners are preparing to issue a new and improved bid for the midfielder, according to Il Messaggero.
However, Arsenal are reluctant to depart with the €65m (£55.8m) Lazio president Claudio Lotito is demanding.
Although the Gunners are said to be in constant contact with the Serbia international’s agent Mateja Kezman to try and get a deal done
    Arsenal prioritise Tielemans
Arsenal are pressing ahead with plans to sign a new midfielder this summer.
And the Gunners are prioritising Leicester star Youri Tielemans for the role ahead of Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, according to Fabrizio Romano.
That’s because Tielemans will cost the Gunners 40million less than Milinkovic-Savic.
The Belgium international’s contract expires in 2023, which means the Foxes could be open to letting him go on the cheap now.

Mikel Arteta warns Gabriel Jesus and Portuguese-speaking pals to stick to English as Arsenal boss clamps down on cliques

MIKEL ARTETA wants to create his own United Nations at Arsenal after vowing to crack down on any dressing-room cliques. The signing of £45million Gabriel Jesus means that Arsenal now have seven Portuguese speakers in their squad.

But Arteta warns against break-off groups in an attempt to unite the entire squadCredit: Getty
But Arteta has made it clear that he expects all of his players to communicate in English — after having to deal with German and French-speaking factions.
Arteta declared: “I don’t want any Brazilian group and I don’t want a Portuguese group.
“The important thing for me is that they unite with the entire squad. I want a team that is fully integrated so they can build a strong and trusting relationship between each other.
“Obviously you will have more chemistry between some players than between others and it’s important for new players to have somebody they have already spent time with who understands your culture.

“I think he will set different standards at the club because he is only used to winning.
“He is only 25-years-old, which is still very early for a striker, but he’s had so many experiences over the last six years which have made him the player he is today.
“He’s gone through difficult patches where he wasn’t playing a lot of football but he has always shown passion, hunger and desire. And that’s what makes him so special.
“He’s played as a left wing, a right wing, a number nine and a false nine.
That versatility is one of the qualities we want in our front players.
“We have a very dynamic team up front. We have three or four players who can play in various positions and different formations.
“We want to be unpredictable but at the time be specific to achieve certain qualities that we didn’t have in the squad. And with Gabby we are doing both at the same time.”
Arteta is equally confident that rookie playmaker Vieira can also have a significant impact despite completing only one full season at Porto before his recent £30million move.
He says: “When I started to look at Fabio I said this is a player that represents the way I want to play.
“It’s not so long ago that he made his debut with Porto but we were really impressed with his maturity and he fits in with our model so I am really excited to have him.” More

Arsenal blow as Brentford close in on £19m Aaron Hickey transfer with Bologna full-back flying into London for medical

BRENTFORD are closing in on a £19million transfer for Bologna left-back Aaron Hickey. The Scottish defender, 20, is set to sign a five-year deal with the Bees, who tried to sign him back in January.
Aaron Hickey is seemingly on his way to Brentford despite interest from ArsenalCredit: Kenny Ramsay
The final touches of the deal are yet to be completed but Brentford are hopeful Hickey will fly to the UK for a medical early next week.
Arsenal have been interested in him but look set to miss out on his signature.
The youngster joined Bologna from Hearts for £1.5m in 2020 and was rumoured to be attracting attention for Europe’s top clubs such as Bayern Munich back then.
During his time at the Italian side he has made 48 appearances. He has also scored five goals for the Serie A club.

Hickey is a versatile player who can play at left-back or on the left-wing.
He is also slightly unconventional as he is actually right footed but is more than comfortable with his left.
Despite his young age and competition for places at left-back for Scotland via the likes of Andy Robertson and Kieran Tierney, Hickey has earned four senior caps.
He made his international debut in a 1-1 draw with Poland in March.

Arsenal’s transfer policy shows Arteta is planning for tactical tweaks and new formations after substitution rule change

ARSENAL missing out on Raphinha isn’t the end of the world, I never saw him as a priority signing. But with five substitutes allowed in the Premier League next season, as well as the additional games in the Europa League, Mikel Arteta needs to bring in more quality players.

Arteta utilised five subs effectively during the Covid-hit 2020-21 season, with his tactical tweaks allowing flexibility in the second half.
And in what promises to be a busy 2022-23 campaign, the Spaniard will be hoping to have plenty of options from the bench that can change matches.
The five changes instead of only three will offer far more latitude to change the pattern of matches.
We know that Arsenal’s manager trains using more than one system so his squad are comfortable to change tactics to alter fortunes or react to situations on the pitch, so the new rules should assist his team.

When you then look at the transfer business done to date and those players the club are tracking, it is possible to see that Arteta is thinking ahead.
Gabriel Jesus undoubtedly will want to play centrally, but we have all witnessed just how effective the Brazilian can be from the right flank.
And Fabio Vieira, when you look at where he has played in the last season for Porto can play as a No8 or as a wide creator.
Equally the desire to sign Lisandro Martinez is also logical, as the Argentine ace can play on the left of a two or three-man defence, and we saw Gabriel utilised centrally in a three in his first season.

Again, flexibility to be used match to match or to change things up without any reduction in fluency or quality. The same applies of course to Arteta’s keenness to have William Saliba back in the fold.
The only concern, for me, would be the overuse of advanced pre-programmed use of the substitutes and I think we can all relate to this, from the late Arsene Wenger era, but perhaps also by taking a sideway glance at Rugby Union.
Rugby moved to a 23-squad game with all eight substitutions being permitted and the game rapidly evolved into one in which coaches used all or the majority of substitutions tactically and not just to protect the athletes.
We have all seen how changing a scrumhalf or fly-half with 20 minutes to go can massively influence the outcome of a match, as can adding fresh pace on the wings.
Equally we all witnessed how Eddie Jones pre-determined changes in the Calcutta Cup caused England’s momentum to falter and ultimately lost them the match.
    NIC OF TIME
Everyone could see that Arteta was reluctant to unleash Nicolas Pepe with 20 minutes to go last term and given the Ivorian’s form it’s hard to blame him.
This saw Bukayo Saka running on empty in May, whereas Emile Smith Rowe was trusted to replace Gabriel Martinelli on the opposite flank.
Given the importance of the wide players to Arsenal’s play, the extra games due to the Europa and the new flexibility on substitutes the push for Raphinha to give Arteta four high quality wide men is more logical.
Similarly, the addition of Vieira will allow Arteta to simply ask Martin Odegaard to press as he does so well but for 65/70 minutes and not the full 90.
We are still only in the first month of the transfer window, but I am certainly looking at the squad building through slightly different lenses.
Yes, it is obviously about adding greater quality and depth of quality, but I also feel our manager is buying with one tactical eye on the new five substitution rule.

Arsenal push for Youri Tielemans transfer after having Sergej Milinkovic-Savic bid rejected – and will cost £40m MORE

But they have also considered alternative options if a deal cannot be completed.
According to Italian newspaper Il Messaggero, Arsenal had a £47million bid for Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic rejected earlier this week.
The Italian side want at least £68m for his services – a fee of which the Gunners would be reluctant to pay.
As a result, Arteta is expected to make Tielemans a top priority signing to compete in the next few weeks.

make Tielemans top priority, Milinkovic-Savic ‘bid’
When speaking on the Que Golazo podcast, journalist Fabrizio Romano revealed that the Gunners are more likely to sign the Leicester man as he will cost £40m LESS than the Lazio star.
Tielemans has one year remaining on his current contract, so his price tag could drop to £25m this summer.

Arsenal have reportedly agreed personal terms with him, but an official bid has not been made yet.
If a deal is struck with Leicester, the Belgian could be set to partner new boy Fabio Vieira in midfield.

Vieira joined the Gunners in a £34m transfer from Porto last month, but he has not yet made an appearance in pre-season training due to a foot issue.
Last week he was pictured with a protective boot, sparking concerns that he would not be fit in time for Arsenal’s pre-season tour.
Marquinhos, Matt Turner and Gabriel Jesus have also joined the club this summer. More

Arsenal make Tielemans transfer top priority, Milinkovic-Savic ‘bid’, Lisandro Martinez battle with Man Utd

ARSENAL have reportedly made Youri Tielemans their top midfield transfer target. This comes despite a reported £47m bid for Lazio’s Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.
Tielemans is said to be available for a cut price £25m after refusing to sign a new deal with Leicester, while Milinkovic-Savic is valued at closer to £70m.
And the race for Ajax defender Lisandro Martinez seems to be getting intense as reports suggest that Manchester United boss Erik Ten Hag is set to go all out for the Argentinian.

    More on Pochettino
Mauricio Pochettino is “happier” in the Premier League because he knows he is admired for his work at Tottenham.
As reported earlier, Pochettino wants to return to the Prem but would never consider Arsenal due to his Spurs past.
A close friend said: “Mauricio has never hidden his belief that he feels happier in the Premier League than anywhere else.
“He loves it in England and he also knows he is admired here for what he has done in the past”
    Pochettino wants Maur
Mauricio Pochettino is targeting a Premier League return after his dismissal as Paris Saint-Germain manager.
Pochettino is already eyeing the next major vacancy in the Prem as he prepares for a quick comeback to top flight football.
The ex-Tottenham boss has retained his home in London even after being sacked by Spurs in 2019.
Chairman Daniel Levy was keen on bringing the Argentine back to N17 last summer only for Poch to stay on in Paris.
With Antonio Conte now installed and in command at Tottenham, the door appears closed.
But while his love for Spurs means Pochettino would rule out the prospect of joining Arsenal if Mikel Arteta was shown the door, SunSport understands he would be willing to consider any other ambitious and serious Prem outfit

    Man United transfer fears revealed
Man United are unlikely to prise fourth spot from Arsenal next season.
That’s according to United Stand host Mark Goldbridge who reckons the Gunners’ transfer business will put them above Man United, who’ve had a quiet window in comparison.
He said on talkSPORT: “Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City have got top four nailed on for me.
“So it is Spurs, Arsenal, Manchester United and any other teams that has a good season going for fourth.
“That is the limit, and that is not Erik ten Hag’s fault. With this transfer window, and what Spurs and Arsenal are doing, it could be fifth or sixth, and that is never good enough.”
    Arsenal plan new transfer bid
Arsenal are remaining persistent in the transfer pursuit of Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.
The Gunners reportedly had a €55 million offer for the Lazio midfielder rebuffed as the Italian side wanted more cash.
But the North Londoners are preparing to issue a new and improved bid for Milikkovic-Savic, according to Il Messaggero.
However, the Gunners are reluctant to depart with the €65 million Lazio president Claudio Lotito is demanding, the report adds.
Although the Gunners are said to be in constant contact with Milinkovic’s agent Mateja Kezman to try and get a deal done.
Arteta speaks on dressing room plans
Mikel Arteta wants to create his own United Nations at Arsenal after vowing to crack down on any dressing-room cliques, MARK IRWIN WRITES.
“I don’t want any Brazilian group and I don’t want a Portuguese group.
“The important thing for me is that they unite with the entire squad. I want a team that is fully integrated so they can build a strong and trusting relationship between each other.
“Obviously you will have more chemistry between some players than between others and it’s important for new players to have somebody they have already spent time with who understands your culture.
“But for sure we will promote that integration between all of them.”
    Then there was three
Gabriel Jesus can’t wait to share the pitch with his Arsenal namesakes next season.
Jesus’ arrival at The Emirates makes him the third Gabriel, along with Martinelli and Magalhães.
And the ex-Man City striker is itching to play alongside both Gabriels, whom he also shares Brazilain heritage with.
He said to Arsenal’s media: “Now it’s three! There’s a lot of jokes with us now, but they are very good guys.
“I’m so happy for them because they deserve to be in a big club like Arsenal, and they did so well last season. I’m so happy to be here with them.”
    Arsenal’s business savvy praised
Arsenal’s shrewd business deals have been praised by club legend Alan Smith.
He said to Sky Sports: “The good thing about Arsenal’s recruitment now is that they are signing players without too much media fanfare.
“For example, we did hear about Jesus but when we did hear they were already quite far down the line in terms of securing his signature.
“Then there was Fabio Vieira from Porto. Nobody saw that one coming either and the best recruitment teams at clubs are able to do that.
“They do a lot of work behind the scenes, maybe even six months to a year in the build-up to signing a player, but they do it without too much fanfare or drama.
“That points to a department of the club that is really functioning well and it’s really encouraging that they have got that side of things working well because it was a bit of a mess a few years back. Now Edu and Arteta are on the same page, they agree what is needed and that relationship is vital.”
    Gakpo urged to snub Prem
Arsenal transfer target Cody Gakpo has been urged to stay with PSV Eindhoven by team-mate Luuk de Jong,
De Jong reckons Gakpo can flourish at PSV for another season before taking the plunge elsewhere.
He told Voetbal International: “I used to talk to him in the past, I also did it for the Dutch national team and I still do it.
“I saw him come in and see him make strides. When he came, the talent was already there.
“I think he can have another very good season, finish it by winning the league and then take a nice step.”
    Arsenal ‘prioritise Tielemans transfer’
Arsenal are pressing ahead with plans to bring in a new midfielder this summer.
And the Gunners are prioritising Leicester City man Youri Tielemans for the role, ahead of Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, according to Fabrizio Romano.
That’s because the Belgium international will cost the Gunners 40m less than Milinkovic-Savic, the report adds.
Tielemans’ contract with Leicester City expires in 2023, which means the Foxes could be open to letting him go on the cheap now.
Whilst Lazio are demanding £68m for Milinkovic-Savic, the report claims.
    Jovic set for Fiorentina transfer
Luka Jovic is set to join Fiorentina on a two-year deal, according to reports.
The striker, 24, signed for Real Madrid three years ago in a huge £52million move from Eintracht Frankfurt.
But he failed to make an impression, scoring just three goals in 51 appearances for Los Blancos.
As a result, the club have decided to let him go on a free transfer despite the fact he still has three years remaining on his contract.
According to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, Fiorentina have agreed to sign Jovic on a permanent deal.
The two clubs originally discussed the prospect of a loan, but Real Madrid decided to negotiate a 50 per-cent sell-on clause instead.
Jovic is set to have a medical this week before finalising the move which will see him sign on until June 2024 with the option for two additional years.
    Arsenal staff member leaves club
Arsenal have lost their Head of Academy Performance Tony Strudwick to West Brom.
Strudwick has left the Gunners to become the Baggies’ new Director of Medical.
Upon bringing in Strudwick, West Brom’s Chief executive Ron Gourlay, said, via Birmingham Mail: “We are delighted to have Tony at the football club.
“He is one of the very best in his field of expertise and arrives at the club with an incredible CV. Tony is highly respected within football.
“We believe his appointment will strengthen the medical and sports science departments which he will oversee.
“His appointment is another positive step in improving standards across the football club as we ready ourselves to take on the challenges ahead.”
    Arsenal defender joins Portsmouth
Portsmouth have signed defender Zak Swanson from Arsenal.
The 21-year-old penned a two-year deal with Pompey, with a 12-month extension option.
But the transfer fee for the move is yet to be revealed, the BBC reported.
Swanson’s been at Arsenal since the age of six, but couldn’t get into the first team.
    Saka tipped for Arsenal stay
Bukayo Saka will not be leaving Arsenal this summer.
That’s according to Arsenal legend Kevin Campbell who said to Highbury Squad: “He is already under contract. These things are not just going to get done in a couple of months.
“These things could take six months, but Arsenal are not, trust me, they are not going to sell Saka in this window. No chance. No chance.”
    Dybala ‘seeks Premier League switch’
Paulo Dybala is reportedly considering a move to the Premier League this summer.
The 28-year-old officially left Juventus when his contract expired at the end of last month, so he is now a free agent.
Inter Milan have been heavily linked with a swoop for the Argentina international, who met with the club’s vice-president Javier Zanetti last month.
However, according to Sky Sport Italia, the Black and Blues have put Dybala on stand-by following the return of Romelu Lukaku.
Arsenal have reportedly been in contact with the Argentine’s agent in a bid to lure him to North London.
Meanwhile, Manchester United are eager to bring Dybala to Old Trafford.
    Martinez makes quit demand
Lisandro Martinez has allegedly told Ajax that he wants to quit the club and move to the Premier League.
The centre-back, 24, is wanted by both Manchester United and Arsenal to bolster their backlines.
The two clubs have both been haggling with Ajax over his transfer fee.
But it is the Red Devils that appear to be leading the chase after offering just shy of £40million for the Argentinian international.
Now both they and Arsenal have received a major boost after reports emerged that Martinez has told his employers he wants to depart for England.
    He’s a fab signing
New Arsenal signing Fabio Vieira embodies the way Mikel Arteta wants the club to play, he revealed.
Arteta said: “In the case of Fabio, again, a talent that when I started to look at him, I said, ‘This is the type of player that I feel represents the way I want to play and the type of player we should have.”
“I was on the phone with him, Edu was on the phone with him and we were all really impressed with his maturity at his age, because it’s not long ago that he’s made his debut with Porto.
“But again, he fits in our model, the way we want to play, the project that we are in and I’m really excited with him as well.”
    Arteta on Matt Turner
Mikel Arteta has revealed why he chose to snap up keeper Matt Turner.
The Arsenal boss told the club’s media: “Matt is a deal we did in January. We identified the possibility to strengthen the team in a position we believe was necessary.
“You will get to know him, a great character, a really special person with qualities in that goalkeeping area that we don’t have, he’s going to make the group and the team better.”
    Jesus and Richarlison debate
Gabriel Jesus will bag more goals for Arsenal next season than Tottenham’s new recruit Richarlison.
That’s according to football pundit Tony Cascarion, who told the Daily Mail: “I think Gabriel Jesus ticks a lot more boxes and they’ve got him at a better price.
“If you said to me now who will get the most goals, I’d say Gabriel Jesus would get more goals than Richarlison for Tottenham.
“And he’s more versatile than Richarlison. Gabriel Jesus has played left-wing, right-wing, and centre-forward for Man City.”
    Arteta shares Jesus excitement
Mikel Arteta has spoken of his excitement after sealing the signing on Gabriel Jesus.
    He said: “I’m very excited.
The club has done a tremendous job to recruit a player of this stature. I know Gabriel personally very well, and we all know him well from his time in the Premier League and being really successful here.
“This is a position that’s been on our radar for a long time now and we have managed to get a player that we all wanted, so I’m really happy.”
    ‘No chance’ of Gabriel leaving
Arsenal legend Kevin Campbell has poured cold water on reports linking Gabriel with Juventus.
The defender has been linked with a £23m swoop for the defender.
But Campbell’s adamant that Gabriel will remain at Arsenal for the upcoming season.
He said to the Highbury Squad YouTube channel when asked about the possibility of Gabriel’s exit: “No chance. I am just telling you, no chance.”
    Jesus makes ambition clear
New Arsenal signing Gabriel Jesus has revealed he’s joined the club to score goals.
He also referenced where he feels his best position is on the pitch.
Jesus said, via Arseblog: “I’m the number 9! I’m a striker, you know. I can play in three or four different positions, but I think my position is 9.
“I have come to score goals.”
