      ARSENAL have much improved strength in depth going into this season.Gunners chiefs have handed boss Mikel Arteta hundreds of millions of pounds to rip up his squad and start again since succeeding Unai Emery.

      With a net spend totalling an eye-watering £380million since the summer of 2019, the North Londoners are desperate to get back to challenging at the top end of the Premier League.
      Arsenal fell at the final hurdle last season, losing six of their last 12 matches to botch finishing in the top four.
      But there will be no excuses this term, given the greater depth Arteta now has to call upon.
      The Gunners have nearly three players for each position – nearly all of whom were signed by the Spaniard.

      Arsenal have blown teams away in pre-season, including a 4-0 shellacking of rivals Chelsea.
      So as they prepare to go into Friday night’s opener at Crystal Palace, let’s take a look at their depth chart in more detail.
      GOALKEEPERS
      Aaron Ramsdale will start the season as Arsenal’s undisputed No1 goalkeeper, particularly after the sale of Bernd Leno to Fulham.
      The England international will hope to keep developing as the Gunners aim to improve in the Premier League.

      Given Arsenal’s return to Europa League action, there may well be minutes for new American back-up stopper Matt Turner.
      While forgotten man Runar Alex Runarsson is back after a loan spell at OH Leuven.
      DEFENDERS
      When fit Takehiro Tomiyasu impressed immensely at right-back during his debut campaign in North London.
      Cedric Soares deputised for the Japan international last term, while Hector Bellerin is back after his loan at Real Betis, at least for now.
      Kieran Tierney was excellent at left-back but like Tomiyasu suffers from numerous injury issues.
      Oleksandr Zinchenko’s addition will keep Arsenal covered, while Ainsley Maitland-Niles could also fill in.
      Ben White and Gabriel Magalhaes will now receive much greater competition at centre-back with William Saliba finally set to be given a chance – while Rob Holding and Pablo Mari are still at the club as back-ups.
      MIDFIELDERS
      Thomas Partey and Granit Xhaka were Arteta’s first choice pairing last season.
      Mohamed Elneny penned a new contract to stick around, while Arsenal will hope for further development from youngster Albert Sambi Lokonga.
      Zinchenko offers an intriguing option, regularly playing in midfield for Ukraine – while Maitland-Niles could also do a job.
      New skipper Martin Odegaard is set to begin the campaign as Arsenal’s creator-in-chief in the No10 position.
      While new signing Fabio Vieira and academy graduate Emile Smith Rowe will also challenge for a starting position.
      FORWARDS
      Gabriel Jesus has been on fire in pre-season since arriving from Manchester City and offers Arsenal fans genuine hope that they have finally found a prolific No9 to replace Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
      Alexandre Lacazette has departed, although the Gunners were able to retain Eddie Nketiah on a new £100,000-a-week contract.
      Bukayo Saka will hope to take another leap on the right flank as he enters the final two years of his contract – while he will be backed up by £72m man Nicolas Pepe and the returning Reiss Nelson.

      ARSENAL’S All Or Nothing documentary is finally here on our screens.And one member of staff in particular has been filmed in the Amazon doc playing a starring role in one of the season’s memorable triumphs.

      It was chief photographer and lifelong fan Stuart MacFarlane who delivered the team talk for the North London derby against Tottenham…and the Gunners went on to win 3-1.
      His inspirational talk was filmed by Amazon Prime cameras and is part of the upcoming All Or Nothing series.
      Arteta picked up MacFarlane’s camera as he told the squad: “This guy, for the last 30 years has captured emotions, emotions and teams.
      “I want you to hear from him, how he feels about you. And about our club.”

      Who is Stuart MacFarlane and how long has he worked for Arsenal?
      MacFarlane has been snapping Arsenal since 1991, and become a full-time staff photographer with the club in 2001.
      He also supplied pictures for the ‘Invincibles’ book on Arsene Wenger released in 2014.
      MacFarlane spoke of his highs and lows covering the Gunners: “The highs and lows are all linked to the success for the football club.
      “So winning the league in 2002 and 2004, the FA Cup in 2002, 2003, 2005, 2014 and 2015 were brilliant times.
      “And the only real low is losing in the final of the Champions League in 2006.”

      What did Stuart MacFarlane say in the team talk?
      MacFarlane looked at the players and said: “This is my club. I f*****g love this football club. And I f******g love all of you.”
      “When you go out, first f***ing tackle, listen to the crowd. They will f***ing be on you straight away.
      “Win every tackle. When you score, look in their faces. Look at their emotion, look how much they love you. Show them how much you love them, ok?”

      Lucas Torreira’s Arsenal exit ‘stalling’ after midfielder ‘refused to get on plane’ to seal £7.5m Galatasaray transfer

      LUCAS TORREIRA’S Arsenal exit is stalling after the midfielder refused to get on a plane to Turkey, according to reports.The Gunners star, 26, was expected to complete a £7.5million transfer to Galatasaray this week after being deemed surplus to requirements by Mikel Arteta.

      It is understood the fee has been agreed between the two clubs, including add-ons.
      An aircraft was booked and ready to transport him to Istanbul for his medical and to sign the paperwork on a three-year deal.
      But according to Express reporter Ryan Taylor, Torreira decided not to board on Tuesday as planned.
      Instead, he wanted more time to make a final call.

      Both clubs are now waiting on the Uruguayan ace, with Galatasaray particularly worried due to interest from elsewhere.
      Fiorentina, Juventus, Roma and Valencia have all been linked with the ex-Sampdoria man this summer.
      Arsenal paid £22m for Torreira in 2018 and he went on to make a whopping 89 appearances for the club in his first two seasons before going out on loan to Atletico Madrid and then Fiorentina for the past two campaigns.
      He still looks set to leave, wherever that may be, and follow Bernd Leno out of the Emirates exit door.

      After four years at the Emirates, Leno has decided to swap North for West London in search of regular first-team football in his bid to be named in Germany’s World Cup squad for Qatar.
      Mikel Arteta allowed the ex-Bayer Leverkusen shot-stopper to leave having already brought in Matt Turner to be Aaron Ramsdale’s back-up.

      And after undergoing his medical on Tuesday, the Cottagers have finally announced his arrival.

      “Everyone thinks football is easy, you’re on the pitch for two or three hours and then you go home. But it’s not like that.
      “You’re travelling 24-7, you’re in the gym, you’re having treatment for injuries. I’m not asking for sympathy — it’s really just the facts of the job.”
      Ramsdale’s eyes were opened to the reality of life at a club like Arsenal before he even completed his £30million deal from relegated Sheffield United last summer.
      He revealed: “I had a lot of online negativity, idiots telling me not to sign, threats trying to scare me and saying, ‘We know where you live’ and stuff like that.
      “So pretty quickly I turned off all the notifications on social media from people who I don’t follow back.
      “They can still try to message me but it’s only my friends and people who are important to me who can contact me.
      “My mum and dad are on social media but don’t really know what they are doing, so it’s quite easy for them to type ‘Ramsdale’ into Twitter and end up on a page where there’s lots of negativity and abuse.
      “So turning off the notifications has definitely made me feel safer — but it was also better for my family and it’s stopped them from getting upset.
      “As much as I love the fans, the people I need to impress are the manager, the coaching staff and my team-mates.”
      Yet Ramsdale did not take long to figure out that the Twitter trolls are a world removed from the Arsenal regulars who have quickly taken the keeper to their hearts.
      He added: “I got a great reception in my first game in the Carabao Cup at West Brom.
      “So I very quickly realised the difference between true fans who travel to places like Birmingham on a Wednesday — and some idiot behind a keyboard who just wants to make comments about footballers because they think they can do better.”
