Arteta is still not clear how long it will take for the former Manchester City striker to be fit again, saying the club are taking it “day-by-day” at the moment.
Jesus bagged five Premier League goals in the first half of the season, helping to fire the Gunners to the top of the table going into the break.
But there are fears his injury could derail any hopes Arsenal have of a sustained title tilt.
Arteta said: “We know that he needed some intervention in the knee and we have to take it day by day, week by week and see where that takes us.

“What it affects is who we are as a team because he gives us so much.”
Asked whether it would alter his January planning, Arteta said: “What we can do after that when we know the timescale better and we know when we can have him back we will look at the options and try to make the right decisions.
“I feel my squad is really good, and unfortunately we’ve had injuries, but we will see what we can do to be stronger.”
Brazil forward Gabriel Martinelli could be an option through the middle as a stop-gap, while former England Under-21 striker Eddie Nketiah has scored two goals in two mid-season friendlies this month.

The Gunners are currently in Dubai as part of a warm-weather training camp with friendlies against Lyon and AC Milan, as part of the Dubai Super Cup alongside Liverpool, thrown in.
Gabriel, Nketiah and Fabio Vieira were all on the scoresheet on Thursday as Arsenal blew away a Lyon side which was spearheaded by former Gunner, Alexandre Lacazette.
Arsenal also won a penalty shootout, with one being held after every game out here regardless of the score, thanks to four spot-kick saves from third-choice goalkeeper Karl Hein. More

Arsenal should target two January transfers including ‘next Ian Wright’ Ivan Toney, claims Ray Parlour

WITH Gabriel Jesus sidelined by injury, Arsenal legend Ray Parlour has urged the Gunners to sign Brentford ace Ivan Toney.Parlour, 49, drew comparisons between the Bees talisman and Arsenal hero Ian Wright.

Summer signing Jesus had surgery on his knee this week and is set to be out of action for three months.
That could see Arsenal forced to bring in a striker when the winter transfer window opens.
And Parlour reckons Toney, who has 10 goals in 14 Premier League games this season, could be the answer.
The 26-year-old has been charged by the FA over 232 alleged breaches of betting rules.

But Parlour told Sports Lens: “The problem you’re going to have in January is who’s available? I’ve always said Ivan Toney of Brentford.
“I’d go and try to get him if I could. I don’t think you’ll get him in this window but he’s who I’d go for.
“I think he’s similar to Ian Wright the way he plays and scores his goals.”
Parlour also listed Borussia Monchengladbach forward Marcus Thuram as a possible option.

He is also out of contract at the end of the season, which could see the Gunners try and pick him up on the cheap in January.
Parlour continued: “I know Marcus Thuram at Borussia Monchengladbach could be available because his contract is up at the end of the year.
“I do know Edu was looking for a winger [or] forward when I spoke to him in preseason.
“He wanted a winger who could go past someone and offer something a bit different to what they’ve got now.
“Someone pacey like a Marc Overmars… that’s what I’d be looking to bring in.”

They have confirmed that their star striker, signed from Manchester City for £45million in the summer, had gone under the knife after returning from the World Cup.
Arsenal are currently unclear on how long Jesus’ recovery will take, but the striker could be facing months out.
Jesus, 25, has five Premier League goals so far this season and has been key to them going into the break five points clear at the top of the table.
The former Manchester City man suffered the injury in Brazil’s final group stage game against Cameroon, his first start at Qatar 2022 having come off the bench against Serbia and Switzerland.

In a statement, the North Londoners said: “Gabriel Jesus has successfully undergone surgery to his right knee after suffering an injury during the Brazil v Cameroon World Cup group stage match on Friday.
“Gabby will now begin his rehabilitation programme. Everyone at the club is supporting Gabby and will be working hard to get him back on the pitch as soon as possible.”
The injury could force Mikel Arteta to go back into the transfer market to sign another striker to continue challenging Manchester City for the title.
Arsenal spent £120million in the summer but only have one other out-and-out striker in the squad, Eddie Nketiah.

The former England Under-21 international is yet to start a Prem game this season and has no goals in 12 league appearances from the bench.
Arsenal are keen on signing Shakhtar Donetsk winger Mudryk, 21, but may have to rethink their plans as the Ukrainian is not a centre forward.
Brazil boss Tite was accused of the Arsenal man knowing there was a concern over his knee but firmly denied those claims, calling them “evil lies”.
Tite said: “I don’t like hearing lies out there, evil lies.
“At no time do we play for victory at the risk of a player’s peril. The liar who’s out there – because that’s the name isn’t it, the haters, right?
“We are responsible, we are personally responsible, we are ethical and it would never have happened. I didn’t want this to happen, it’s a shame, we are very sorry for Gabriel.”
Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka, still in Qatar with England, quickly got in touch with his teammate after hearing of the injury.
Saka said: “He’s a very, very, very important player for us.

However, his hefty price tag put off Mikel Arteta from making a moving.
Scouts have continued monitoring the star’s progress this term, and a fresh report has claimed that both Arsenal and Premier League rivals Chelsea have been blown away by his performances.
Portuguese outlet A Bola allegedly left their talent spotters “with their mouths open”.
And they are not the only clubs considering a move.

Italian giants Juventus are now believed to have placed him on their wishlist.
But any transfer move for the South American will be costly.
Porto are holding out for at least £65million for Pepe – which would trigger his release clause.

The ex-Manchester City forward posted a pair of pictures to his Instagram page.

Jesus could be sidelined for up to three months following his surgery, which will come as a massive blow to Arsenal’s chances of lifting the Premier League.
With Jesus out of action, Mikel Arteta’s only recognised striker option is Eddie Nketiah.
This has left Arsenal considering the option of recalling Folarin Balogun from his loan at Ligue 1 side Reims.
The 21-year-old has scored eight goals in 15 games for the French outfit.

And on the verge of tears, the 24-year-old said:  “My performance was a disaster so I am sorry for the team.
“I just need to be much, much better to help the team.

Five strikers Arsenal could be forced into going for in January transfer market after Gabriel Jesus knee surgery

ARSENAL could be forced to dip their toes into the January transfer market for a new striker following the injury to Gabriel Jesus. The Gunners have not struggled for goals this season with Jesus, Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo Saka firing Arsenal to the top of the league.

But there are fears Jesus could be out for up to three months as he faces surgery on a knee injury he suffered at the World Cup.
That means the Brazilian could miss key games against Tottenham, Manchester United and Manchester City.
Jesus has been keen to Arsenal’s form this season and Mikel Arteta’s side will likely miss his goals, work rate, and link-up play.
So to mitigate his loss the club could try to sign a striker in January, and here SunSport takes a look at some of the options Arsenal could look at.

    Cristiano Ronaldo
The superstar is a free agent after leaving United last month and could jump at the chance to try and win the Premier League – possibly for one last time.
A short-term deal until the end of the season could suit both parties with SunSport columnist and Arsenal fan Piers Morgan calling on the Gunners to sign Ronaldo.

    Dusan Vlahovic
The Serbia international was heavily linked with a move to The Emirates last January before joining Juventus for £62million.
But Arsenal have not given up hope of signing the striker with Arteta still a big fan.

    Cody Gakpo
Gakpo has lit up the World Cup with three goals in four games for the Netherlands.
His stock continues to rise after his blistering start to the season, having scored nine goals and assisted 12 in just 14 league games for PSV Eindhoven, who are reportedly open to selling the striker.
Leeds tried to sign him last summer and United were also linked, with Erik ten Hag believed to be determined to land the young Dutchman.

    Tammy Abraham
Arsenal were linked with the former Chelsea forward in the summer but refused to pay Roma’s £67m asking price.
However a January move could be realistic with the Italian side possibly willing to reduce their demands due to Abraham scoring just three goals this season.
The 25-year-old revealed Arsenal tried to sign him from Chelsea and he refused to rule out a move back to the Premier League when asked about his future.

    Jonathan David
The Lille and Canada star has admitted he would be open to a Premier League transfer and he dropped a hint he was eyeing Arsenal after liking two of the club’s posts on Instagram in the summer.
But transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has actually tipped David to join rivals Tottenham, with Spurs reportedly in contract with the player’s agent.
