But the 19-year-old has been restricted to just a handful of appearances, with only one coming in the league.
Marquinhos featured in Arsenal’s first three Europa League games and marked his debut with a goal and an assist in the victory over FC Zurich.
However, when Mikel Arteta’s side reached the crunch stages of the group, the winger hardly had a look in.
Instead, he was demoted down to playing with the U23s.

He proved himself as far too good for that level with four goals and two assists in less than 400 minutes of action.
Marquinhos will be hoping for minutes when Arsenal host Brighton in the Carabao Cup tomorrow.
But the Evening Standard claim the Premier League leaders thinking about his future ahead of January.
The report claims Arsenal are weighing up whether to keep him around the first-team squad or loan him out to increase his chances of regular action.

Arteta is already short in the wide areas after Nicolas Pepe was allowed to join Nice on loan in the summer, while Emile Smith Rowe is out injured.
Therefore, the Gunners are plotting winter moves for Orlando City man Facundo Torres and Shakhtar Donetsk star Mykhaylo Mudryk.
Mudryk in particular has caught the eye this term, registering 14 goal contributions in 14 games, five of which came in the Champions League. More

Shay Given on why Arsenal can win title, Haaland will break Shearer record and Howe can lead Newcastle to Prem glory

MANCHESTER CITY hero Shay Given insists Arsenal can’t be ruled out of the Premier League title hunt. The Gunners are flying high in the table with two points separating them from second-placed City thanks to a remarkable consistency that has seen them win 11 out of their first 13 matches.

Given, 46, believes the North Londoners’ decision to give “complete control” to manager Mikel Arteta is a main reason behind the club’s stunning comeback after a turbulent campaign last season.
The legendary goalkeeper also argued that Arteta has learned a lot from City boss and mentor Pep Guardiola, with whom he worked at the Etihad for three years before joining Arsenal in 2019.
The former Ireland international added that the signings of two proven winners in Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko from his previous club have proven to be a major difference maker.
Speaking to Mega Casino, Given said when asked if Arsenal can win the title: “I hope not. Arsenal are top of the league at the moment and I think people think that it is a foregone conclusion that City will climb above them at some stage.
    Read More on Football
“I think that Arteta has done a phenomenal job at Arsenal and you also need to praise the ownership at the club for sticking by him. Twelve months ago he was under a lot of pressure, he had the [Pierre-Emerick] Aubameyang issues to resolve.
“I think the club has given him complete control and he has shown himself to be a fantastic leader and manager. He obviously learned from Pep, the best in the world, and now Arsenal and Arteta are getting their rewards.
“There is a real togetherness on and off the pitch between the players and the fans, they are right behind their team and the Emirates has turned into a fortress for them. You can’t rule Arsenal out. They are definitely in for the title now.
“Signing Jesus and Zinchenko was a brilliant move from Arteta, and I think Pep did him a favour on the transfer fees for both of them. Two Premier League winners coming into the team, that would have helped this young Arsenal side too.”

But Given still appears to like City’s chances as he has high hopes of star signing Erling Haaland, who has already registered a staggering 18 goals in 12 Premier League matches.
The Newcastle great is so impressed with Haaland he expects him to break every record, including that of Alan Shearer’s historic 260 Prem goals, and could even lead the Citizens to Champions League glory.
Given added: “We obviously knew all about Haaland’s record before he came to the Premier League, and I think people dismissed the fact that he would keep scoring at the rate he has done in Germany in England.
“To do what he has done in his first few months in the Premier League is unbelievable. The records that he has already broken in the Premier League tell you that he is the real deal.

“I’ve been going to a lot of the City games this season because I live in Manchester and when he came off the bench on Saturday [against Fulham], you could feel the anticipation for him from the crowd.
“In 20 minutes he had one disallowed and three or four chances before he scored the last minute penalty. The opposition were worried about him. He has that fear factor about him and he is hungry for goals.
“People say he doesn’t get involved in the build-up, but he doesn’t need to; he just needs to be in the right place at the right time.
“He is an absolute superstar and I think he will break every record in the Premier League, not just Shearer’s. I think he could be the missing pieces of the puzzle for the Champions League too.”
Given spent nine years with Shearer at Newcastle and sees plenty of similarities between him and Haaland as they are both “so clinical”.
The Irish legend said: “They are both so clinical. When a chance presents itself to these guys, a calmness comes over them and you know that they will score. They were born to score goals.
Shay Given believes Newcastle could win the Premier League under Eddie HoweCredit: Getty
“Both players have the killer instinct. Their movement is incredible and they put themselves into areas where they have the best possible chance of scoring a goal. They were both born to score goals.”
Given also likes Newcastle’s chances under Eddie Howe as he claims he is the right man to soon lead the club to its first title since 1927 amid an impressive season that has seen the Toon climb up to third place.
The former goalkeeper is surprised by the Magpies’ progress as he didn’t expect the former relegation strugglers to challenge for a top-four finish so soon after last year’s Saudi-led takeover.
Given said: “Why can’t he win the title with the club? When he first got the job, people were saying that he would be a short term option.
“I think many people expected him to steady the ship for a season or two because Newcastle were in big trouble when he went in there, but he’s done that and more.
“I think the board will be thinking that they have the right guy in charge and that he should lead the club on this journey for a number of years. Newcastle need to take things step by step.
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta could lead the Gunners to Premier League gloryCredit: PA
“If Newcastle can finish in the Champions League places this season it would be a phenomenal achievement and the next step on from that would be to challenge for the Premier League title.
“The owners probably didn’t expect to be challenging for the top four so quickly. I think they would have considered a top half finish a step in the right direction.
“Somebody asked me at the start of the season if Newcastle could finish in the top four. At the time, I thought it was too soon and it still might be, but as every game goes by and the results keep coming it is hard not to get carried away because they are playing so well and the city is rocking again.
“They need to keep the momentum going and see where they end up. It will be interesting to see what happens in January. Will they bring in a couple more to help push them towards the top of the table?
“I think it is a real opportunity for them to do that. If Eddie wants a little bit more quality in certain areas of the team and they can do that, the owners will do it.” More

And although his inclusion in the squad didn’t come as a surprise to fans of the Premier League, it appeared to be a massive shock to Neymar.
The Paris Saint-Germain ace hitman seemingly raised his eyebrows in disbelief after hearing Martinelli’s inclusion – at the expense of Liverpool’s Roberto Firmino – in the squad before his own name was announced on Brazilian TV.
Footage of his reaction quickly went viral and became the talk of social media, with one footy fan saying: “The reaction to Martinelli.
“I would love to see Gabi finding out he made it.”

Gunners star Martinelli is part of the 11-man Premier League contingent of Brazil’s squad for Qatar 2022.
Manchester United trio Antony, Casemiro and Fred have all made the cut – despite the Red Devils’ inconsistent season.
Chelsea centre-back Thiago Silva will be one of the oldest outfield players in the tournament at the age of 38 following his selection.
Liverpool duo Fabinho and Alisson have also been called up to the squad – as well as Arsenal and Tottenham stars Gabriel Jesus and Richarlison.

Newcastle and West Ham stars Bruno Guimaraes and Lucas Paqueta have also made the final squad for the tournament – as well as former Leeds ace Rafinha.

‘I’ll keep questioning them’ – Gary Neville claims Arsenal still have to prove themselves ‘at business end of season’

GARY NEVILLE will keep questioning Arsenal’s title chances because they’re yet to prove themselves at the business end of the season.Mikel Arteta’s men returned to the top of the Premier League following an impressive 1-0 victory at Chelsea on Sunday.

Arsenal were in complete control from the get-go but didn’t break through until the 63rd minute when Gabriel poked home Bukayo Saka’s corner.
If the Gunners beat Wolves on Saturday they will head into the World Cup leading the way and remain on course for a first title since 2003-2004.
Despite their outstanding start to the campaign, which has seen them drop just five points in 13 games, Neville still has doubts.
“We have to question them,” Neville told the Sky Sports Premier League podcast.

“Arsenal fans come at me every single week, because I will continue to question them until I don’t see a moment like I did here [at Tottenham] last season, and they get through those moments, and they finish second, or they finish third, or top, which would be out of this world.
“Because they haven’t proven it yet. It’s like a boxer that hasn’t won a world title, or a national title.
“You have to question them. But what you cannot question is, that was a really, really good performance.
“We’ve seen over the last few years – this Arsenal group of players have found it more difficult in the last part of season. It’s not overly negative. Let’s see what happens in 20 games’ time.

Arsenal star Gabriel Magalhaes set to NOT make Brazil’s World Cup squad in blow after stunning season so far

ARSENAL star Gabriel Magalhaes is reportedly set to suffer World Cup heartbreak for Brazil. The defender, 24, has been ever-present for Mikel Arteta’s table-topping Gunners in the Premier League this season.

And he was the hero yesterday as he scored the only goal to secure Arsenal victory over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
Gabriel has produced a number of impressive displays this term and was hoping that would be enough to seal him a place in his country’s squad for the showpiece in Qatar this month.
However, a number of reports in his homeland claim that the uncapped ace will be left disappointed.
Samba Boys boss Tite is due to name his selection for the tournament later today.

But Gabriel is “practically out of the equation” and will not be part of Brazil’s 26-man World Cup squad, according to journalist @brunoandrd.
The news will come as a bitter blow for Gabriel, who has been capped at U20 and U23 level for his nation.

“I’m a big Neymar fan. I hope to get to play with him soon and he can set me up to score a header!”
Gabriel added: “When you’re called up for the national team, it’s a big step in your life.
“I certainly want to experience that again. I’m just trying to work hard here at Arsenal and I know the opportunities will follow.
“When you play for the national team, there’s a feeling that you’re representing your country and all the people that you see when you’re in your country.

Arsenal fans direct X-rated chant at Aubameyang before Chelsea star is hauled off with embarrassing touch stat

CHELSEA striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang received a hostile reception from Arsenal fans this afternoon as he faced his former club for the first time since his dramatic exit.Aubameyang, 33, was repeatedly booed by Arsenal supporters throughout the first half at Stamford Bridge.

And things went from bad to worse when he was booked for a rash challenge on Ben White at the half-hour mark.
In response, Arsenal fans were quick to take aim at the striker as they began to chant: “Mikel Arteta, he thinks that you’re sh*t!”
Aubameyang went on to be substituted in the 64th minute after managing just EIGHT touches throughout the game.
The Gabon international has struggled to find his form since leaving Arsenal.

He left the club on a sour note earlier this year after falling out with Mikel Arteta.
In December 2021, he was stripped of the captain’s armband AND axed from the first team following a number of disciplinary issues.
After failing to earn his spot back in the squad, he eventually left to join Barcelona on a free transfer during the January window.
He spent eight months with the La Liga giants before returning to the Premier League to sign for Chelsea in a £10million deal.

Chelsea could be forced into market for another striker as Aubameyang proves not even Arsenal game can inspire him

CHELSEA could be forced back into the transfer market for another striker if Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s form continues. After all, it looked as though not even leading the line against Arsenal could inspire him back to his best.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang fired a blank at Stamford BridgeCredit: Rex
In a day Aubameyang was supposed to haunt his old side and manager, he fired a blank after a lacklustre display.
And in truth the former Arsenal captain – who was let go on a free transfer after falling out with Mikel Arteta – never looked like scoring.
He lacked any sort of movement off the ball and rarely made an effort to get involved in the 65 minutes he lasted.
Admittedly the striker – signed from Barcelona in the summer – was not helped much by his attacking colleagues.

But a player of Aubameyang’s experience and quality should be able to turn a game on its head.
His replacement at Stamford Bridge, Armando Broja, 21, immediately showed more ambition than Aubameyang, 33, managed in over an hour.
It also condemned the Gabon star to a fifth Premier League match without a goal.
He was brought in to replace £97.5million man Romelu Lukaku, 29, the latest misfiring Chelsea forward signed for major money.

And although Aubameyang’s £10million fee will not hurt new owner Todd Boehly’s pockets right now, he could end up costing the American down the line.
As if things do not change, Boehly could be forced to improve on the already £300m he spent in his first summer in charge.
Chelsea are set to wait until next season for RB Leipzig’s versatile playermaker Christopher Nkunku, 24, to come into the side.
So new head of recruitment Joe Shields, who only came in last month, might have to get busy drawing up a wishlist ahead of the January sales.

Chelsea vs Arsenal: Aubameyang out to bite Arteta’s title chances but points priority for Potter in evolving rivalry

PIERRE-EMERICK AUBAMEYANG takes on his former team-mates – just nine months after his acrimonious Arsenal exit. And oh how the striker will be desperate to get one over on his former employers at Stamford Bridge on Sunday lunchtime.

His replacement Gabriel Jesus has made an immediate impression at the EmiratesCredit: Getty
But even the Gabon international would surely admit three points is far more important than adding another to his own personal goal tally to inflict another dent in Arsenal’s title ambitions.
For defeat in another league clash against the Gunners at Stamford Bridge would make it three in a row, something not experienced since 1974.
And it would extend the gap between top-of-the-table Arsenal and Chelsea to 13 points after 13 games in a further dent to their hopes of Champions League qualification.
To make matters worse, the Blues headed into the weekend’s games knowing the pressure was on from neighbours Fulham and Graham Potter’s old side Brighton, who stuffed them 4-1 last week.

That thumping on the south coast was Potter’s first defeat for the Blues, who remain unbeaten at the Bridge since Arsenal headed across town and also stuck four past them in April – including a pair for former Chelsea academy talent Eddie Nketiah.
Roman Abramovich’s arrival in West London led to a drastic shift in this rivalry as Chelsea dominated.
They lost just four times out of 29 competitive matches between 2004 and 2016, collecting four Premier League titles, four FA Cups, three League Cups, the Europa League and the Champions League in that time.
By comparison, Arsenal added three FA Cups to add to their Invincibles campaign.

But the tide has turned in recent years and now it is Arsenal in the ascendancy, further along the path of transition as Mikel Arteta closes in on three years in the dugout and Potter only just getting going.
Excitement levels at the Emirates have never been higher since their switch from Highbury in 2006.
Their young, hungry squad – now devoid of Aubameyang and his misdemeanours – are flying high with talented forwards finally backed up by a stable defensive unit.
For Chelsea, they are still in the early phases of the Potter regime, still working out who and what works best – and in particular where.

Potter’s chopping and changing at times seems a masterstroke – but also leaves some fans wondering if he really has any idea of his best team or formation just yet.
Aubameyang is his only genuine No9, although Kai Havertz is more prolific in front of goal and adds far more to the overall team performance.
The ex-Arsenal skipper – who managed 92 goals in 163 games for the North Londoners – made a bright start with three goals in his first five Chelsea appearances.
But two of those were against a pretty woeful AC Milan side, albeit the finish at Crystal Palace showed the class plenty of Arsenal fans who all about.
Now the 33-year-old goes up against an in-form William Saliba and the rest of a defence who know the forward’s game inside out.

A goal – in particular a winning goal – would see Auba join fellow former Gunners captain Cesc Fabregas as the only two players to score in this fiery fixture for both clubs in the Premier League.
