Ukrainian ace Mykhailo Mudryk had been their No1 target going into the January window.
But after being gazumped by Chelsea’s huge £88million offer, Arsenal have moved on to other options.
According to Sky Germany, French international Diaby is on the Gunners’ wishlist.
But the 23-year-old won’t come cheap.

Last summer, Leverkusen demanded £75m when Newcastle tried to sign Diaby.
He still has two-and-half years remaining on his contract with the Bundesliga club, meaning they are in no rush to sell.
Diaby, who can play on either flank, has scored eight goals in 22 appearances for Leverkusen this term.
Another player on Arsenal’s radar is Barcelona star Raphinha.

The Brazilian snubbed interest from the Gunners last summer to secure his dream move to Barca.
But having been underwhelmed by the former Leeds ace, the Catalan side have reportedly shown a willingness to sell.
He will not come cheap, however, with Spanish paper Diario Sport claiming that Barcelona will demand £100m for his signature.
Arsenal would be very unlikely to match this asking price.

Arsenal star William Saliba brutally trolls Tottenham after hot-tempered 2-0 derby win as he slams home fans

WILLIAM SALIBA has revealed he was not all too impressed with the atmosphere in the North London derby.Arsenal picked up a crucial three points away at Tottenham to strengthen their title hopes thanks to a calamitous own goal by Hugo Lloris and Martin Odegaard’s brilliant strike.

And Saliba stuck the knife in further as he trolled Tottenham fans about the atmosphere.
The home fans were largely subdued throughout most of the contest as they watched Spurs failed to compete – and Saliba noticed.
When asked to compare the derby atmosphere to what he experienced while on loan at Marseille last season, Saliba said: “No, Marseille is better.”
Spurs fans could be heard growing increasingly edgy as the first-half went on.

Lloris’ clanger that gave Arsenal the lead did not help things, and home supporters became even unhappier when Odegaard doubled the away side’s advantage.
Aaron Ramsdale was called upon to make a handful of top quality saves in the second-half but Tottenham could not find a way through.
The game was then marred by a Spurs fan who appeared to kick Ramsdale after the full-time whistle.
The win moves Arsenal eight points clear at the top of the Premier League after Manchester City’s loss the day before.

But Saliba is far from convinced that the Gunners’ advantage is as commanding as it looks.
The defender, 21, said: “It’s never enough. We know we have a lot of games to go. We have to be focused because things can change quickly.
“If we lose one game, after we can have no confidence, so we have to be focused on keeping going and trying to win. We focus on ourselves.”
He added: “We know we have a big game next week [against Manchester United].
“We know they can beat us. They are the only team to beat us this season in the Premier League and we want to beat them again at home.” More

Arsenal ‘make Declan Rice top summer transfer target’ and are ‘confident’ of beating Man Utd and Chelsea to £80m star

DECLAN RICE has been identified as Arsenal’s top summer transfer target, reports suggest. West Ham star Rice is entering the final year of his contract at the London Stadium this summer – although there is an optional extra year – and with their recent struggles, Rice may finally opt to jump ship.

Rice could be on the move next summer
A number of top clubs are interested in the 24-year-old, including Chelsea, Manchester United, Manchester City and Arsenal.
This summer is set to see a bidding war for the Englishman, which could see him eventually leave for £80million.
However, according to The Times, Arsenal believe they are in the strong position to sign Rice because they are the Premier League leaders.
The report indicates the Gunners remain keen on a new midfielder, and consequently have made Rice their priority.
    READ MORE ON ARSENAL
Rice fits the mould of player targeted by Mikel Arteta in recent windows.
He is young, aggressive, and has a burning desire to play in the Champions League – something Arsenal look all but certain to be able to offer next season.
Arsenal did prioritise signing a new winger this month but saw their efforts to land Mykhailo Mudryk fail after Chelsea threw a colossal package at the Ukrainian.
The Blues paid £88million for Mudryk, narrowly pipping Arsenal’s own £84m bid, before offering wages worth DOUBLE the Gunners offer.

Chelsea have been long-term favourites to sign Rice due to him supporting the club and being best friends with Mason Mount, as well as being a former member of their academy.
Meanwhile, Man Utd were put off a deal for Rice last summer due to being quoted a price tag of £150m.
But with this now almost halved, Rice’s decision could depend on who has the best footballing project available.
The Gunners sit eight points clear at the top of table following their victory in the North London derby – a game where they cruised to victory.
However, while the likes of Paul Merson believe the title is now “Arsenal’s to throw away”, defeat to United next weekend could throw things wide open. More

The 24-year-old’s contract does not expire until the summer of 2025 but he has told his representatives he won’t make a decision on his future until the end of this season.
Osimhen has been in amazing form for Napoli this term, netting 13 goals in 17 matches.
He has helped Luciano Spaletti’s side top their Champions League group and they sit in first place in the domestic league, nine points clear of AC Milan in second.
Osimhen is also well out in front in the Serie A golden boot race.

The Nigerian is wanted by the Premier League trio but a deal will not happen this month, claim outlet Il Mattino.
Manchester United could be prepared to spend big on him as they look to fill the void left behind by Cristiano Ronaldo.
Manager Erik ten Hag sees buying a striker as a top priority and he has Osimhen down as one of his dream signings.
As for Arsenal, they could spend big on a centre-forward in the summer with Gabriel Jesus set to be out for some time due to a knee problem.

The title challengers will surely be back playing in the Champions League next season and reportedly want Osimhen to bolster their front line.
Newcastle could also make an ambitious move for him, splashing their mega-rich owners’ cash.
The Toon already have Chris Wood, Callum Wilson and Alexander Isak on their books as forward options, so they may have to sell if they did sign Osimhen. More

What happened to Mesut Ozil after playing for Arsenal and where is he now?

MESUT Ozil was one of the world’s best midfielders after successful spells at both Real Madrid and Arsenal. The German World cup winner left English football in 2021 after over seven years in North London. But what happened to him after leaving the club?
Ozil enjoyed a successful spell at Arsenal after signing for them in 2013
What happened to Mesut Ozil after playing for Arsenal?
Ozil was a popular figure amongst Arsenal fans during his stay at the Emirates.
His arrival in the 2013/14 season coincided with the club ending their nine year wait for a major trophy, winning the FA cup, with the German playing a crucial role.
Further cup success followed in 2015 against Aston Villa and in 2017 against Chelsea, but fell out of favour after Mikel Arteta, his former teammate, was appointed manager in 2019.
Ozil left Arsenal in January 2021, after his contract was termniated.
    READ MORE ON ARSENAL
He joined Turkish side Fenerbahce on a three and a half year deal, the club he supported as a child.
In a difficult first half season with the club, Ozil missed eight games through injury, as well as contracting COVID-19.
    Where is Mesut Ozil now?
Ozil was handed the club captaincy ahead of his first full season at the club.
He was also given the number 10 shirt that he wore during his time in London and Madrid.
    Most read in Football
Ozil scored his first goal for the club against Adana Demirspor, and also contributed with a solo effort in a 2-1 away win against arch rivals Galatasaray.
Despite this, the season was relatively unsuccessful with Ozil only registering two assists, as the team finished second in the league, eight points behind Trabzonspor.
They also finished without a trophy, with poor showings in the Turkish cup and UEFA Europa league.
On 24 March 2022, Fenerbahce announced that he was excluded from the squad.
His contract was terminated by mutual consent at the end of the season, with the midfielder joining city rivals Istanbul Basaksehir on a one year deal.
Is Mesut Ozil married and does he have any children?
Ozil married Amine Gulse in 2019, after confirming their engagement earlier in the year.
The couple have two children. The first, Eda, was born in March 2020.
Their second child, Ela, was born in September 2022, shortly after his move to Basaksehir. More

Arsenal were right to walk away and not overpay for Mudryk… who needs him anyway when we have Smith-Rowe?

MIKEL ARTETA’S Arsenal are sitting eight points clear at the pinnacle of the toughest, most competitive league in Europe, and it seems we Gooners are still able to find something to complain about.Despite dominating the ‘old enemy’ at their place, securing a comfortable win and a clean sheet, some supporters are amazingly still attacking the club.

However the Gunners can still count on Emile Smith RoweCredit: Rex
One person in particular taking flak is Edu, our technical director, for failing to secure Mykhailo Mudryk, who if we are to believe reports was stolen from under our noses by Chelsea.
Arsenal bid twice for this exciting Ukrainian and obviously had a top price in mind, based on their own assessment of a player’s value, and not that of the selling club or the media.
For my money – and thank goodness it isn’t – Edu and Arteta have made the right call.
Mudryk has potential, and current custodians obviously felt they could develop that, but the price, wages and length of contract offered by Chelsea is shocking.

This is what a sensible club would offer for an established world star, not an exciting kid.
The Arsenal fanbase collectively labels Chelsea as classless, lacking in history, being without strategy and nouveau riche on the one hand – and then throw their toys out of their pram when our own club failed to act like them in this instance.
Our fanbase lauded Edu and Arteta for their negotiating stance and the transfer fees agreed for Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko.
Some sections of it are now complaining that we failed to overpay for Mudryk.

Confusing and contradictory bunch, aren’t we?
I think the real underlying truth is born out of anxiety, that whilst riding high, with an exemplary first XI, we have a thin squad, and are one or two key injuries away from our ambitions derailing.
This is entirely valid and understandable, but we have to believe, as I do, that the board and management will have identified more than one target in each position they feel needs additional competition or first-class cover.
Even today, there are reports that Arsenal are talking to Barcelona about Ferran Torres or Raphinha, which I am sure will allay some concerns at least.
The worst-case scenario for many of us at present, is an injury to Eddie Nketiah, while Jesus is still on the sidelines.

It is a genuine worry and one, at present that might see Gabriel Martinelli played centrally, a position, the player himself does not wish to play and one where he has not excelled when asked to fill in previously.
However, the signing of Mudryk would only have provided cover for Martinelli, which we have in Emile Smith Rowe.
It was only in the second half of last season that the Brazilian became the first choice on the left of Arteta’s three-man attack, wrestling the shirt from Smith Rowe, who had finished 20/21 and began the last campaign in that role.
    SMITH-ROWE CAN MAKE INSTANT IMPACT
At that time the Croydon de Bruyne had forced his way into the England squad and had added goals to his game.
In 37 outings last season, about a third of which were off the bench, Smith Rowe hit the back of the net 11 times.
This is a player that we as fans took to our hearts from December 2021 onward, after that Chelsea match, and who along with Bukayo Saka was deemed a player we could build our future around.
Yes, Martinelli has earned his position and Smith Rowe’s injuries have limited him but the club have beencautious with him and he is back, fit and raring to prove his worth to us all over again.
And I for one cannot wait to see his cherubic face and beaming smile celebrating further Arsenal goalsbetween now and the end of the season.
Arteta obviously feels Smith Rowe has a key role to play between now and May, and to coin a phrase used with George and Arsene, Mikel knows!
The likelihood that Mudryk would make an instant impact was probably slim anyway having not played in weeks and coming from a vastly inferior league to the Premier League.
In contrast, the likelihood of a player who has not only played but shone in this league shaking off his rustiness and having a positive impact on Arsenal’s aspirations seem far greater, to me, at least.
The added advantage, keeping our fingers crossed that Nketiah stays fit until Jesus is available, is that Smith Rowe can provide cover, rest and rotation for not only Martinelli, but Saka as well.

He is not exactly the same player as either but is more than capable of playing as a wide playmaker and we know he can score from either flank or arriving late in the area.
He may also be able to offer rest to Granit Xhaka and Martin Odegaard too and I simply cannot wait to see Smith Rowe’s telling contribution which I both predict and expect.

Gabriel Jesus then arrived in the summer and Mikel Arteta was looking to strengthen his squad further with the signing of Mudryk, but he joined Chelsea instead.
Arsenal are now looking at other targets and could make a move for Vlahovic, report Calciomercato.

It is claimed the North Londoners are preparing a £71million for the Serbia international.
Juventus could be tempted to let him leave due to the financial problems at the club.

Vlahovic, 22, has also attracted interest from Manchester United and Chelsea after scoring 16 goals in 36 games for Juventus.
Arsenal are keen to add to their forward line and there are a number of players they could sign.
Reports emerged claiming the Gunners wanted Raphinha but the winger has rejected Arsenal in favour of staying at Barcelona.
