However, Brazil caretaker manager Ramon Menezes, who took over from Tite after a poor 2022 World Cup showing, didn’t include the defender for the upcoming friendly.
The 25-year-old didn’t seem too pleased with that development as he took to Twitter to share an apparent tongue-in-cheek response.
Gabriel tweeted: “New job”, and accompanied his post with a basketball and a winking emoji.
That appeared to be a subtle dig at Menezes with the ex-Lille star hinting he may try his luck at another sport.

However, the Brazilian deleted his post soon after with his exact message still not confirmed.
Brazil are scheduled to take on Morocco in Tangier on March 25.
That will be the Selecao’s first match since their humiliating World Cup exit at the hands of Croatia, who eliminated them from the quarter-finals in Qatar.
Morocco, on the other hand, will be hosting the Brazilians shortly after becoming the first ever African nation to make it to the competition’s semi-finals.

Menezes called up a number of other Premier League stars for the international friendly.
Those are Manchester City’s Ederson, Nottingham Forest’s Renan Lodi, West Ham’s Lucas Paqueta and Wolves’ Joao Comes.
Tottenham’s Emerson Royal and Richarlison as well as Manchester United’s Casemiro and Antony also join them.
Chelsea January signing Andrey Santos has made the squad as well after he was shipped back on loan at Vasco da Gama.

Arsenal have £72m transfer flop Nicolas Pepe to thank for Premier League title charge

A loan move to Nice followed last summer but Pepe has still played a role in Arsenal topping the Prem.
That’s because he influenced Gabriel Magalhaes to sign for the Gunners in the summer of 2020.
Pepe played alongside Gabriel at Lille before his switch to The Emirates.
The defender had multiple offers at the time and reportedly came close to joining Everton before the pandemic disrupted the transfer window.

Gabriel explained last year in quotes carried by Le Petit Lillois: “In the winter [of 2020], before the championship ended, I was already supposed to sign for Everton.
“I passed my medical examination etc, but it was not done. I had already planned to leave after this season.

“I spoke with Napoli, Everton again, then I finally chose Arsenal thanks to Nicolas Pepe who sold me the club well.”
Gabriel has been a key player for the Gunners this season with 25 Prem appearances.

I flogged fake Gucci gear to my Arsenal team-mates in the car-park… the Wags all had same knock-off bag at Christmas do

FORMER Arsenal goalkeeper Graham Stack has revealed that he used to sell knock-off luxury brand items to his team-mates.Stack was a member of the Gunners’ Invincibles who won the Premier League in the 2003/04 season.

However, he only played 10 league games in his six-year spell for the North London-based side, having gone on multiple loans before leaving in 2006.
As a back-up player, he did not qualify for a Premier League medal during Arsenal’s famous campaign nor was paid to the same level as the likes of Thierry Henry or Robert Pires.
But he did make up for it with his off-field antics as he saw an opportunity to make a bit of cash from his team-mates.
Stack exclusively told Ladbrokes Fanzone: “I grew up in pubs in West London and it’s fair to say we had quite a few characters who used to drink in our pubs.

“We had a number of football teams, darts teams, karaoke nights, it was a proper old fashioned blokes pub with the football and racing on and it was full of colourful characters.
“One of them used to bring in some knock-off clothes, bags, wallets etc, and again, because I wasn’t on a lot of money at the time I saw a bit of a gap in the market.
“So I started off buying four or five boxes of ‘Gucci’ from him and within a week I’d sold it all, so I thought I may as well up my intake and fill the whole car up.
“I went to the training ground with a boot full of ‘Gucci’ gear, I’m in the car park and all the youth team lads were coming out and before you know it some of the first-team lads were coming over to see what all the fuss was about.

“I just remember Liam Brady calling me over saying ‘this isn’t Camden Market, this is Arsenal Football Club, you can’t be selling goods out of your boot in the club car park’.
“I got a bit of a telling off, but Liam knew what I was like and it was harmless really, I was just trying to earn a few extra quid.”
And it wasn’t just Stack who found himself in trouble after his pals got found out at the Gunners’ Christmas party.
He added: “To be fair to the lads, some of the first team boys, they weren’t ones to go into town and start shopping.
“But it was funny because we had a Christmas party at the Landmark Hotel in central London about three or four weeks later and all the lads had the same ‘Gucci’ shoes on and all their partners has the same ‘Gucci’ handbag.
“Which was quite embarrassing for the lads because obviously, they’d told the missus they’d been into the shop especially to buy it.
Stack also had spells in the lower leagues of English footballCredit: Getty Images – Getty
“Needless to say a few of them got in trouble that night and a few truths came out.”
His best moment for the Gunners came in the League Cup in 2003 as he was the hero in a penalty shootout against Rotherham.
After leaving Arsenal, Stack went on to have spells at Reading, Plymouth, Hibernian and Barnet.

He then joined Kerala Blasters, which is when he started coaching while also playing.
In March last year, he came out of retirement and played for Chesham United in the Southern League Premier South, the 7th tier of English football. More

Arsenal ‘open to Kieran Tierney transfer offers this summer’ in huge boost to Newcastle

Tierney is supposedly growing frustrated at his lack of game time this term after losing his spot in the team to Oleksandr Zinchenko.
He has played 26 times in all competitions but just four of those have been starts in the Premier League.
The Scottish international is into his fourth season at the Gunners since arriving from Celtic for £25million.
He has often struggled with injury issues since his switch and required knee surgery to fix his repeated problems.

Football Insider report that manager Mikel Arteta is planning to strengthen his squad and spend big when the transfer window re-opens.
Therefore, a number of fringe players could be sold if good enough offers come in, with Tierney one they are willing to offload.
Choosing to cash-in on him could increase funds to be spent on the likes of Brighton star Moises Caicedo or West Ham captain Declan Rice.
Newcastle supposedly have an interest in Tierney as well as Fulham star Antonee Robinson, who is also on the radar of Manchester City.

Eddie Howe wants to provide Dan Burn with increased competition and talks over a new contract with him are rumoured to be underway.
Tierney’s arrival could potentially spell the end for Matt Targett, who has played 12 times this campaign.
It could be a busy transfer window ahead for Newcastle, especially if they secure European football, with the club also tracking Bristol City star Alex Scott and Bayer Leverkusen’s Moussa Diaby. More

Bukayo Saka is the heir to Thierry Henry’s throne at Arsenal.. but first he must develop a nasty streak

MUCH has and will continue to be written about Bukayo Saka and his exploits in the famous Arsenal shirt.A shirt, lest we forget, that he has worn since he was seven years old.

Two seasons ago, he got over his disappointment at being dropped for the 2020 FA Cup win to virtually single-handedly carry his ‘more illustrious’ colleagues all year, aged just 19.
His form in a disappointing season for his club brought him England recognition, where he again showed up senior stars in the Euro finals of 2021.
And his form last season, bouncing back from the penalty miss disappointment – and the cowardly racist abuse he faced afterwards – is a testament not just to Bukayo Saka the footballer, but to Bukayo Saka the man.
Fast forward to the present day and Saka is now surrounded by new team-mates, in a squad carefully assembled over recent transfer windows, all offering the same enthusiasm, work ethic, talent and a collective commitment to the Arsenal cause.
    READ MORE ON ARSENAL
This has enabled this humble young man to raise hisown bar and that of the team once more, and one feels there is undoubtedly more to come.
The elevated confidence and belief in the past few months has been vital in a time when the team has been deprived of its early season level raiser, Gabriel Jesus.
Saka and Odegaard, along with senior colleagues such as Granit Xkaka, Thomas Partey and Oleksandr Zinchenko, have collectively picked up the Brazilian’s baton and sprinted on with it when they might have dropped it, as many expected they would.
Due to the threat Saka shows every game he has been increasingly targeted by opposition managers in their tactics and defenders.

This has varied from the complimentary tactic of doubling up on the effervescent winger, to the far more cynical physical and illegal measures we are witnessing more regularly.
I do not have the stats at my fingertips, but I am sure the fouls on Saka are now at the levels we have seen on Jack Grealish in recent years.
Like his England peer, Saka is learning to cope with the constant fouling and perhaps this is where the recent advice from Arsenal legend Thierry Henry has and will pay dividends for the player and our team.
It was in December that Henry was quoted as saying perhaps Saka was ‘too nice’ and he needed to add more aggression his game. For Henry, for the player he admired so much to turn into, what he described as ‘a killer threat’ he cannot be so nice.
Saka has scored ten goals in the Premier League this seasonCredit: Getty
He concluded by saying after the West Ham match on Boxing Day: “That standard can’t be nice. When you pass the line, it has to be you or the guy. It better be you and he (Saka) understands that now.”
In recent weeks it seems that Saka has taken the constructive criticism on board, is not placidly accepting the continuous fouling, and is retaliating in the best ways he can.
This has been evidenced by him becoming more physical with the defenders, being less subtle in letting the referee know what is occurring and, of course, being even more lethal in his role.
The rapidly rising goals and assists tally will confirm that. And, in my mind, has earned him the right to his recently adopted goal celebration.
It might seem slightly out of character for a man, whose humility and modesty have endeared him to a far wider appreciation society than simply Gooners, to adopt Thierry Henry’s trademark corner flag salute.
However, even in doing so, for the first time at Villa Park, he took to social media to say he was ‘Honouring the King’.
I, for one, agree with Arsenal’s former No 14, that to go with talent, and a work ethic, you probably do need a nasty streak and a touch of arrogance. Thierry’s striking partner, Dennis Bergkamp also had the whole package.
If the extra grit and resilience are indeed the final ingredients to cement Saka’s place among the elite, then perhaps gratitude is owed to Monsieur Henry – ‘merci legend’.
However, we must remember that while Henry was certainly the last King of Highbury, he was not the first. In my time supporting Arsenal, there has been George, Brady and Rocky, all three, like Bukayo were homegrown.
We all hoped that Jack Wilshere, would be the next Hale End graduate to grow from prince to king, but sadly that dream was never realised.

Saka though, may humbly suggest his proud corner flag salute is a tribute to a former king, but are we actually witnessing the first ascension to a new Emirates throne?

The midfielder was linked with a January transfer to Arsenal, who had a £70million bid turned down by the Seagulls and ultimately landed Jorginho.
Chelsea also tried to sign the Ecuador international but their approach was also rejected by the south coast side.
The 21-year-old tried to take matters into his own hands and pushed for a move on Instagram where he shared a long post expressing his desire to leave.
But Caicedo’s tactic didn’t pay off as he stayed put at Brighton with the club’s hierarchy issuing him a stay-at-home warning before his eventual return to Roberto De Zerbi’s squad.

It doesn’t look like the Ecuadorian will be sharing any messages from Instagram any time soon as he appears to have scrapped his ‘moises_caicedo55’ account.
Caicedo’s recent statement raised some eyebrows as it contained some errors.
Remarkably, the Brighton star spelt the name of his home town Santo Domingo as “Santa Domingo”.
Caicedo wrote: “I am grateful to Mr. [Tony] Bloom and Brighton for giving me the chance to come to the Premier League and I feel I have always done my best for them. I always play football with a smile and with heart.

Arsenal fans hail Trossard as January signing of the season ahead of Mudryk – and incredible stats show why

Trossard has also been more effective than Liverpool’s Cody GakpoCredit: Getty
The stats show that Trossard has been the best of the three
So far the £27million signing has had a decent impact for the Gunners, scoring once and assisting two more in his first seven Premier League appearances.
Whereas Chelsea’s £88m ace Mudryk has failed to produce a goal involvement in his five appearances.
Trossard has even done better than Liverpool and World Cup star Cody Gakpo.
The former PSV man made the move to the Premier League in January after Jurgen Klopp’s side poached him from under the noses of Man United in a £37m transfer.

The Dutchman has only scored twice for the Reds and is yet to produce an assist, despite playing 203 minutes more than Trossard’s 291 minutes in a Gunners shirt.
The Belgian international has also statistically outperformed the other two in terms of touches, dribbles completed and passing accuracy, Opta stats show.
Trossard is also creating goalscoring chances far more regularly than his rivals, as he creates 1.5 chances per 90 minutes compared to Gakpo’s 0.9 and Mudryk’s shocking 0.
And fans have now been calling Trossard the best signing of the winter window.

One tweeted: “Trossard might be pound for pound signing of the season.

A third wrote: “The advantage of signing Trossard and Jorginho is that they arrived as ready-made, plug-and-play Premier League players.
“We might have actually won the January 2023 transfer window.”
A fourth said: “Trossard signing feels like when we signed Arshavin.
“Experienced forward in January, two-footed, both have some similarities in the way they shift one side to shoot and their footwork in tight spaces.
“Heck Arshavin even played up front a few times for us between 2009 and 2010.”

Man Utd join Arsenal and Chelsea in Romeo Lavia transfer battle just eight-months after Southampton star left City

MANCHESTER UNITED have joined Arsenal and Chelsea in the race to sign Romeo Lavia, reports suggest. Lavia, 19, has enjoyed a breakout season with Southampton.

In fact, no player in the Premier League won more free-kicks than Lavia in February.
And now the midfielder, who only joined from Manchester City last summer, is in line for a move up the table.
According to the Daily Mail, Man Utd are the latest club to keep tabs on Lavia.
The Belgian is already in the sights of London rivals Chelsea and Arsenal, with the Blues previously enquiring about his services.

However, in United’s case, he does not represent their first-choice option.
Instead, Erik ten Hag wants to pursue a deal for Frenkie de Jong or Jude Bellingham, who both fit his desired tactical system.
There is also a long-standing admiration for Declan Rice at Old Trafford, though Arsenal are leading the race to sign the West Ham star.
Southampton have missed Lavia’s presence whenever he has not featured this season, winning just one of nine Premier League games he was absent.

This has not boded well for the Saints’ survival chances, with their poor form seeing them rooted to the bottom of the table.
They brought Lavia in for just £14million, and while City have a £40m buyback option in the deal, relegation would weaken Southmapton’s stance on a sale.
Man City star Kevin De Bruyne described Lavia as having the potential to be a “top player” after seeing him in training.
He said last year: “He (Lavia) is very good. He’s been training with us since the end of last year. If he continues his development, I think he’ll be a top player.” More
