Ryan Fraser’s Bournemouth walk-out may backfire as Arsenal and Tottenham transfer interest dries up

RYAN FRASER’S decision to walk out on Bournemouth could backfire.
The Scot rejected a Cherries deal of around £67,000-a-week — but Crystal Palace are offering closer to £50,000 a week for the winger, who had hoped to earn a move worth at least double that.

    1

Fraser, 26, is available on a free and was being tracked by elite clubs such as Arsenal and Tottenham after his stellar 2018/19 campaign, when he scored seven Premier League goals and 14 assists.
After failing to repeat that success, neither club has made a move.
It means Fraser’s options could be limited to Palace and West Ham, who are also interested.
And with the pandemic affecting football finances everywhere, the wages on offer may not be as lucrative as before Covid-19 struck.

Fraser snubbed a short-term contract in June, so sat out the rest of the campaign as Bournemouth slumped to relegation.
Having signed for the Cherries back in League One, he made over 200 appearances but has not played in almost five months.

The 2019/20 season saw Fraser score just once, against Everton in September, with four assists.
Bournemouth were relegated on the final day of the season despite completing a league double over the Toffees.

After the coronavirus shutdown, they picked up only two wins in nine games as they finished a point from safety.

Alex Crook says Crystal Place are favourites to sign Bournemouth’s Ryan Fraser More

Arsenal’s FA Cup final clash with Chelsea feels eerily unreal compared to raucous Cardiff in 2002

DON’T get me wrong, I grew up dreaming of playing at Wembley — and whether it was the old or new stadium it was always special.
But the thing I remember about this 2002 FA Cup final at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff was the decibel levels pitchside.

    5

Sol Campbell celebrates winning the FA Cup alongside Tony Adams in 2002
The way the stadium has been built, it retains the atmospherics in the middle.
So the noise of the fans made it virtually impossible to talk or shout to team-mates during the game. It was quite incredible.
And that was with the retractable roof open!
To try to convey a message to my left-back or right-back, a distance away, I had to adapt and use body language and watch more intently than I would do normally to cover the lack of anyone hearing me.

It was completely alien to my normal game.
It’s amazing to think more than 18 years after that ferocious, deafening, cacophony in the Welsh capital, tonight the same two clubs will walk out to a wall of silence at Wembley.
The whole thing feels eerily unreal.

    5

Chelsea beat Manchester United to get into the final
This was my first FA Cup final and, like so many other youngsters, the magic of the FA Cup was imprinted in me growing up.

When I started playing and competing at the highest level, I hoped I would get the chance to get to the final and experience what I had watched in awe as an impressionable lad.
I was lucky enough to win the FA Cup four times and all three of them are very special in so many ways.
But this first one stands out because everything was new to me.
And we won the game with two of the most wonderful goals, in the way you would want to win an FA Cup final.
I look back with such fondness on this match.
It was a great pleasure to be part of that Arsenal side with so many players who had the ability to produce that bit of skill and a moment that would win you a game.

It’s amazing to think more than 18 years after that ferocious, deafening, cacophony in the Welsh capital, tonight the same two clubs will walk out to a wall of silence at Wembley.
    Sol Campbell

How would I describe our first scorer Ray Parlour? In a word — committed.
The guy had a lung capacity that never ceased to amaze me.
But beyond that effort, he had a consistency, game after game, that was infectious.
This was a real nip and tuck match against a quality Chelsea side who went close a couple of times.
Then with 20 minutes remaining it was Ray’s typical tenacity that got him upfield.
Picking up the ball from Sylvain Wiltord inside Chelsea’s half in a central position, he had the confidence to hold on to it.
Then as other team-mates got forward to take defenders away, he got himself into a position where he finished with the most beautifully struck curling shot from over 25 yards out that gave keeper Carlo Cudicini no chance.

    5

Campbell in an aerial battle with Chelsea’s Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink
Ten minutes later — and not to be outdone — Freddie Ljungberg picked the ball up just inside the Chelsea half.
He forced his way past John Terry, before unleashing another fantastic arc of a shot on the edge of the area that curled around Cudicini again.
Moments of sublime magic that just turned the game into our favour.
I can remember feeling all sorts of emotion at the end.
Beyond elation, I was relieved that we had won the game.
But then, three days later, we knew we still had to go to Old Trafford and try to seal the Premier League title.

Of course, happily we won at Old Trafford 1-0 with a goal from Wiltord to clinch the Double before our final match of the season against Everton.
There was plenty of champagne at the Millennium Stadium, but I think I ended up getting sprayed with more of it than I actually swigged!
It was a boyhood ambition realised and to be surrounded by such a wonderful side and fans, everything just felt right.

Frank Lampard Sr upset at watching Chelsea’s final showdown with Arsenal ‘like a miserable b******’ at home

AN FA Cup final at Wembley is usually a joyous occasion for the Lampard family.
Between them, the Chelsea manager and his father have a record of played six, won six.

    8

Frank Lampard Sr will watch the FA Cup final at home in Romford

    8

Lampard Jr has guided Chelsea to the FA Cup final in his first season in charge of the Blues
    Yet today will be different.
When his son’s side take on Arsenal, Frank Lampard Sr — who rarely missed a match his son had been involved in prior to lockdown — will be sitting alone ‘like a miserable b*d’ at his Romford house.
Lampard Sr, 71, runs The Nightingale pub in Wanstead, where he has ensured drinkers can watch the big match on a screen outside in the sunshine.
But following his boy’s progress has become a solitary experience for Lampard Sr, since the death of his wife, Pat, 12 years ago.

He said: “The punters in the pub are ringing up asking ‘have you got the game on?’
“There will be a screen outside but I won’t be there. I get nervous.
“My daughter lives round the corner but they’ll watch it at theirs and I’ll sit here on my own like a miserable b*****d.

    8

Frank Sr, left, won the FA Cup twice with West Ham, in 1975 and 1980

    8

Lampard Jr, pictured with John Terry, won the FA Cup on four occasions
“Even if I watched with them, I wouldn’t be comfortable. Even if Chelsea could get me in at Wembley, it wouldn’t feel right.

“It’s the supporters I feel sorry for — football is their lives and they are missing it badly.
“I watched Frank play home and away and always went on my own. Pals would say ‘we’ll come for the ride with you’ but it never happened, I didn’t want it.
“I’m just thinking about the game all the way there and back. When he was playing I got far more nervous than when I played.
“I went to virtually every match he played for Chelsea, Manchester City and when he started off managing at Derby.
“Even when Frank played in the States (for New York City FC), I’d fly over, stay one night then fly home.”
Lampard Sr won two FA Cups as a West Ham left-back.
He scored the 1980 semi-final replay winner against Everton at Leeds with a rare header, and celebrating by dancing around the corner flag.

My daughter lives round the corner but they’ll watch it at theirs and I’ll sit here on my own like a miserable b*****d.
    Frank Lampard Sr

For years, that goal was celebrated at Upton Park, to the tune of White Christmas.
Fans sang: ‘I’m dreaming of a Frank Lampard, just like the one at Elland Road, when the ball came over, and Frank fell over, and scored the f*g winning goal.’
Lampard aped his father’s corner-flag celebration when he scored the winner against the same opposition in the 2009 Cup final.
“It was a year after his mum died and it was still very fresh in the mind,” said Lampard Sr, “So I felt very emotional when he did that celebration.”
Lampard Jr started out at West Ham in 1995, with his dad as assistant manager and his uncle Harry Redknapp as boss.
Yet far from welcoming ‘one of their own’, many Hammers fans believed the younger Lampard only played because of nepotism.
Four years after he left for Chelsea in 2001, Lampard was a title winner and Ballon d’Or runner-up.

    8

Lampard Sr, a left-back, played nearly 700 games for West Ham from 1967 to 1985
Yet before his £11million switch to Stamford Bridge, where he would become Chelsea’s all-time record scorer, came a sliding-doors moment in his dad’s back garden.
Lampard Sr added: “The West Ham thing is a shame. I was born round the corner from the ground and played there for all those (18) years.
“Punters are punters but it went too far with Frank.
“We were sitting in this garden when he got a phone call saying Chelsea wanted him.

    8

SunSport’s Dave Kidd spoke with Frank Sr ahead of the FA Cup final
“Leeds were in for him and they might have been a better team. Rio Ferdinand had moved there and that was a pull for him.
“If there’d been no interest from Chelsea, he’d have gone to Leeds. He could have gone round that corner flag a few times!
“Chelsea was a step up and a dream move, although we couldn’t have known the big man (Roman Abramovich) would come in two years later.
“And Jose Mourinho really pushed him up a level.
“He used great kidology. Kept telling him ‘you’re the best, you’re the best’.
“Frank wasn’t the best. But if you tell someone often enough and they believe it and they have dedication, it’s amazing what they can achieve.”
Lampard Sr admits he was often tough on his son.

    8

Lampard Sr rarely missed a match his son had been involved in prior to lockdown
He said: “I think he didn’t like me a lot of the time. I could be a bit of a taskmaster. I would have got on his nerves.
“We went to a game for his Sunday side, Romford Royals, he wasn’t happy, and all of a sudden, we were nearly home and he started crying.
“I thought ‘f*g hell’ I can’t go home with him like that, his mum will go mad’.
“So we drove around for another half-hour, to get the eyes sorted out.
“In the end, as soon as his mum looked at him she said ‘what’s gone on?’ She knew.
“Even when he played for Chelsea, I was critical.
“I’d go to every game and on the way back he’d ring and say ‘OK what are you going to pick up on now.’”
Lampard was propelled into the Chelsea job after just one year as Derby boss.
But, despite a transfer ban, he has guided the club to a top-four finish as well as the Cup final.

    8

Lampard led Chelsea to a top-four finish and cup final finish in his first season in charge at Stamford Bridge
And his father added: “I always thought Frank was managerial material. He’s bright, he can talk to the media and directors.
“I didn’t think the Chelsea job would happen so quickly but, when it did, I knew he’d give the kids a crack.
“Chelsea always had good youth teams, but players went on loan and then on the missing list.
“The punters always appreciate youth products getting a chance.”
Yet Lampard hauled off three of his younger players — Mason Mount, Billy Gilmour and Reece James — at half-time in the 1-0 quarter-final win at Leicester.
Lampard Sr said: “When he made three subs I thought ‘f*g hell’ — but it worked.

“He can make tough decisions. He can be ruthless. He knows you cannot be everybody’s friend.”
Then there was the recent touchline spat with Jurgen Klopp during Chelsea’s 5-3 defeat at Anfield — when he told the Liverpool boss to ‘f*** off and sit down’.
“Oh yeah,” smiles Lampard Sr, “You can take the boy out of Romford . . . ”

Stunning return to Arsenal for Bergkamp is on as legend says Gunners ‘ideal’ place to coach and talks up Arteta

ARSENAL legend Dennis Bergkamp has revealed he is interested in a return to football and has hailed the Gunners as the “ideal” place to coach.
The former Netherlands International became one of the club’s greatest ever players during his 11-year stint in north London.

The 51-year-old won three Premier League titles, including one unbeaten, and three FA Cups after his 1995 switch from Inter Milan.
Following his retirement, Bergkamp returned to boyhood club Ajax to join their coaching team until 2017.
The ex-striker has insisted he’d love to return to coaching at Arsenal if the opportunity presents itself someday.
He told FourFourTwo: “When the time is right, I’d love to go back and get a role somewhere.

“At the moment we’re great in Holland. I’ve got a young family and have been out of coaching for a little while now.

I must admit, I have the urge to go on the pitch again and help, whether it’s with the technical or coaching staff. Of course it would be ideal at Arsenal
    Dennis Bergkamp

“But I must admit, I have the urge to go on the pitch again and help, whether it’s with the technical or coaching staff.
“It might be a bit too early, but you never know. We’ll see what comes my way.
“At the moment there hasn’t been any contact about that, but as soon as I make my decision, let’s see what happens.

“Of course it would be ideal at Arsenal – I spent 11 years there and have a good feeling with the club.”

Bergkamp has also said he is ‘really interested’ in Mikel Arteta’s project at Arsenal after the Spaniard replaced Unai Emery as manager in December.
He added: “I’m really interested in Mikel Arteta and how he’s doing at Arsenal, as there have been signs that he wants to change their philosophy.
“It looked good in the few matches I watched earlier in the year. But my future, who knows? In football, one day is not the same as the other.”

Ex-Arsenal boss Unai Emery set to take over at Villarreal with Javi Calleja set to join Santi Cazorla in leaving club

FORMER Arsenal boss Unai Emery is set to take the reins at Spanish side Villarreal.
Current boss Javi Calleja will leave the La Liga side despite leading them to a Europa League place this season.

    2

Unai Emery is expected to take over at Villarreal
Marca report that Emery has already been signed up to replace him at the Estadio de la Ceramica.
The 48-year-old has been out of work since he was sacked by the Gunners earlier this season.
It would mark a return to the Spanish league where Emery has previously taken charge of Sevilla, Valencia and Almeria.
Emery left Sevilla, where he won three consecutive Europa League trophies, for Paris Saint-Germain in 2016.

It is expected that the announcement of his arrival will be confirmed soon now that the season has concluded.
Villarreal finished fifth in La Liga, ten points behind Emery’s old side Sevilla.
They capped off a successful campaign with a final-day 4-0 rout of Eibar.
But players rushed over to celebrate with manager Calleja after the first goal scored by Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa – a clear hint he is on his way out the door.

Calleja would follow another ex-Arsenal man in Santi Cazorla by leaving Villarreal.
Cazorla rejoined his first club in 2018 from Arsenal and his departure at the end of this season was previously confirmed.
He received a hero’s send-off in the game against Eibar before it was announced today that he would be managed by former international team-mate Xavi at Qatari side Al-Sadd next season.

“We wish you all the best and we hope we can win many titles together. Many thanks!”
The news dashes hopes of a fairytale return to the Gunners.
Rumours had circulated suggesting he was in line to take up a position as Mikel Arteta’s No2 at the Emirates.

The Arsenal legend was given a hero’s farewell by his team-mates at La Liga side Villarreal.
His departure at the end of the season was previously confirmed and he was given a fitting send-off by the club where it all began.

Villarreal players lifted Santi Cazorla aloft
Cazorla starred in a 4-0 final-day win over Eibar, notching an assist, before being given a guard of honour by BOTH teams at the end of the game.
The midfield maestro was subbed off in the 82nd minute and despite the absence of fans was treated to a standing ovation by the very few people in attendance.

His team-mates later hoisted him high in the air to celebrate after a terrific two seasons back at the club.
He returned to the club from Arsenal in 2018 after an injury-hit time in North London.
His career was written off after a horrendous Achilles injury left doctors warning him he may never walk again.
But he has staged an unbelievable comeback, turning in a number of scintillating performances and being involved in 24 goals in the 2019-20 season.

He will now be managed by his old international pal Xavi in the Middle East.
The Barcelona icon made 82 appearances for Al Sadd after leaving the Nou Camp in 2015.

Arsenal Fan TV’s epic rise, from pioneering a supporters-led YouTube channel to getting an endorsement from Aubameyang

IN 2012, former BBC Reggae radio host Robbie Lyle took his passion for Arsenal to another level.
Irked by listening to pundits talk about his club, he wanted to hear from the so-called ‘real fans’ and air them on a YouTube channel he originally christened Arsenal Fan TV.

    9

AFCTV regular Claude Callegari has been removed from the social media platform indefinitely for racist remarks about Son Heung-minCredit: YouTube
He took his cameraman ‘Tao’ to the Emirates Stadium and interviewed supporters after a 5-2 win over local rivals Tottenham, which pioneered the future of fans-led TV.
Since then, the channel has grown to 1.18m subscribers, made stars out of Gooners like Troopz, Ty and DT, polarised the club’s fanbase, and was forced into a name-change when club officials deemed it detrimental to their brand.
AFTV even flogs its own merch, selling hoodies for £34.99 and trucker hats for £24.99.
It’s latest controversy, airing a racist remark made by AFTV regular Claude Callegari towards Son Heung-min, adds to its rap sheet.

During his Oxford Union address in 2018, Hector Bellerin slated Arsenal Fan TV.
While leading goalscorer Piere-Emerick Aubameyang has in the past endorsed AFTV.
    Here’s it’s epic rise.
    ENOUGH OF THE PUNDITS
When Lyle, 47, quit his day job as a surveyor to focus solely on his new project he set out with one aim.

“We’ve all had enough of the so-called pundits, most of whom aren’t even at the games,” he told Vice.

    9

Lyle started AFTV because he wanted to hear the views of real fans
“So I started my own channel to hear from the real fans, with real opinions. That was my aim with the site”.
What happened next, he could never have imagined.
Coupled with Arsenal’s deteriorating form on the pitch, irate Gooners were getting their voices heard after games.
Lyle and his cameraman would camp outside the stadium and interview anyone who had an opinion on the action they had just seen.
“People didn’t want to talk to us at first,” Lyle told Joe.
“I’d just ask them that question: ‘What do you think?’ But as people started to see us doing it more and more, and started to see the quality of what we were producing, to see us getting traction and the videos going out there and making an impact, more people wanted to speak.”
    WENGER OUT
Soon, with results on the pitch going from bad to worse – and Arsene Wenger’s longstanding reign being called into question – AFTV had an agenda.
Regulars like DT and Troopz became famous for their rants – backing a ‘Wenger out’ stance.
It is those angry monologues that, still to this day, are the some of the most viewed on their social media channel.

    9

Eventually, they got their wish when Wenger’s 22-year stint came to an end in 2018.
And although the French legend didn’t name AFTV specifically, his message about Arsenal’s fanbase could have been seemed as a subtle dig.
“This club is respected all over the world. Much more than in England,” he said.
“Our fans did not give the image of unity that I want at the club. That was hurtful.
“The image we gave is not what it is and not what I like. We can speak about sport.
“You have to accept that you can lose games but it is as well about something more, something bigger than just winning and losing.”
    CRITICS IN THE GAME
When Hector Bellerin gave a talk to students at the Oxford Union, he was asked about his thoughts on the criticism he gets from AFTV.
And the Spanish defender didn’t hold back.
“I don’t think there’s players who go on the internet to watch Arsenal Fan TV,” Bellerin said.

“It does sometimes pop up on your timeline. I see it sometimes, some friends say ‘oh have you heard what that guy on Arsenal FanTV said?’
“It’s so wrong for someone who claims to be a fan and their success is fed off a failure. How can that be a fan? There’s just people hustling, trying to make money their way, which everyone is entitled to do.”
Sky Sports TV pundit Gary Neville has also been scathing about AFTV in the past, specifically on their treatment of Wenger.
“I walked out the Chelsea ground yesterday and there was a couple of these Arsenal fan TV camera things everywhere and to be honest it was embarrassing listening to it and watching it,” Neville said.
“I was watching Chelsea fans take the mickey out of them which was a bit funny and I was watching Arsenal fans slating and slanging into him [Wenger] and I thought to myself, he doesn’t deserve that, that’s one thing he doesn’t deserve – he’s done an unbelievable job.”
Later, Neville admirably sat down with Lyle to explain his comments about AFTV’s public condemnation of the Frenchman.
    THE FANS TURNED
At the tale end of last year, with the club in turmoil with the sacking of Unai Emery, a group of fans turned on Lyle and his posse after a disappointing 0-0 draw against Everton at Goodison Park.
On sight of AFTV cameras, chants of ‘Arsenal fan TV get out of our club!’ could be heard in a clip shared on social media – the very platform AFTV has profited on.
The scene was so toxic, Lyle required a police escort to take him away from the ground.

Hate to see this. Few nicer people or more loyal @Arsenal fans than Robbie Lyle. The reason @AFTVMedia has been so negative in recent years is that we’ve been utter cr*p.Don’t blame the messengers – blame the owners, managers & players. https://t.co/EcfPyQ3SIN
    — Piers Morgan (@piersmorgan) December 21, 2019

Lyle fired back to his detractors: “Merry Christmas to those guys who wasted their time.
“You know what there’s about ten or 15 of them who have been piping up from inside the ground, trying to get songs going. I just don’t understand it.
“[Mikel] Arteta’s in the stands. We’re on the verge of a new era. You’d have thought those fans would have loved to get behind the team instead of wasting their time.”
Celebrity Arsenal fan Piers Morgan jumped to the defence of the channel, insisting the only reason negativity was coming out of AFTV is because performances on the pitch were poor.
He wrote on Twitter: “Hate to see this. Few nicer people or more loyal @Arsenal fans than Robbie Lyle. The reason AFTV has been so negative in recent years is that we’ve been utter c*ap. Don’t blame the messengers – blame the owners, managers & players.”
    AN UNLIKELY SUPPORTER
Last November, Aubameyang was forced to issue a defiant statement lashing out at claims that his team-mates were unhappy with his links to AFTV, after he was named captain.
A report by The Athletic claimed the Gabon striker had developed a rapport with the channel, appearing to like a number of their posts on Instagram, including one criticising ex-boss Emery and another in September that said Granit Xhaka should be sold.
Aubameyang’s relationship with AFTV’s Troopz was also called into question, with reports that he invited the online influencer to his executive box to watch games.
That allegation was further fuelled by Troopz, who posted an image on his Instagram with Aubameyang with the caption: “My captain”.

    9

Aubameyang shot down claims his close ties to AFTV has split opinion among Gunners bosses
Aubameyang’s response to the situation was clear.
He said: “I have arrived in Gabon and heard a lot of b*******. I talk with who I want, whenever I want, and if somebody’s not happy with it… you already know.”

His statement was followed by the middle finger emoji.
How will AFTV feel if star striker Aubameyang leaves the club in the summer?
No doubt, we will see an angry clip should that day arrive. More
