Alphonse Areola ‘passes Fulham medical’ ahead of shock transfer from PSG in blow to Arsenal

ALPHONSE AREOLA has passed his medical at Fulham ahead of a transfer, reports say.
The French keeper spent last season at Real Madrid providing back up for Thibaut Courtois, 28.

Alphonse Areola passed his medical at Fulham ahead of a transfer
But having returned to PSG, the Ligue 1 champions have no plans to keep him.
It sparked a transfer pursuit with Arsenal said to be interested in the stopper, but appear to have been edged out by London rivals Fulham.
According to RMC, Areola has completed a medical with the Premier League side, who beat Brentford in the play-off finals last season.
The 27-year-old is believed to have agreed a loan move with Scott Parker’s side.

Areola was keen to move on from PSG as he bids to keep his place as France’s third-choice stopper for the European Championships next summer.
It is understood he also favoured a move to the capital, having brought a house in London.
Marcus Bettinelli, 28, started last season as Fulham’s No1, but was replaced by Marek Rodak, 23.

Areola is now expected to compete as No1, despite Arsenal’s interest in bringing him in as back-up stopper.

Emiliano Martinez, 28, is seeking a move away from the Emirates having not been guaranteed a starting spot for the upcoming campaign.
But manager Mikel Arteta will not allow the Argentine to go unless he brings in a replacement.
Brentford’s David Raya, 24, is another target to provide completion to German Bernd Leno, 28.

David Luiz huge Arsenal doubt for Fulham clash with neck injury… so Arteta pairs Saliba and Gabriel in training

ARSENAL fans are dreaming of a Gabriel Magalhaes debut in their Premier League season opener after David Luiz picked up an injury.
The £27million arrival from Lille was pictured training alongside William Saliba in what could become Mikel Arteta’s first-choice partnership.

And they could be deployed sooner than expected due to Luiz’s ongoing issue.
According to The Athletic, the centre-back suffered a neck injury in the Community Shield victory over Liverpool.
After aggravating the knock in training, there are fears Luiz could miss up to six weeks of action.
However, Arteta is said to be weighing up risking the 33-year-old at Craven Cottage given his lack of options in defence.
Arsenal head to Fulham on Saturday with Shkodran Mustafi, Calum Chambers and Pablo Mari out of action.
Rob Holding and Kieran Tierney completed the Gunners’ three-man defence, alongside Luiz, at Wembley.
Originally set to be loaned out to Newcastle, Holding’s exit could be delayed or even binned altogether as Arteta waits on his absent stars.

Saliba and Gabriel are thought to be fit but neither have played since March.

At 19, Saliba may not be considered quite ready for a Premier League debut after returning from a loan spell at Saint-Etienne.
But the French youngster could form a long-term partnership with Gabriel, 22, when Arteta is ready to rely on his new assets.
Amid interest from Napoli and Chelsea, the Brazilian is said to have signed for Arsenal because of their manager.
The player’s agent Guilherme Miranda explained: “Gabriel chose them over more lucrative offers because Edu convinced us of the project. It’s 100 per cent because of Edu and Arteta.”

Arsenal considering £20m Emiliano Martinez transfer bid from Aston Villa and want Brentford’s Raya as replacement

ASTON VILLA have launched a £20million bid for Arsenal keeper Emiliano Martinez – with David Raya lined up as a replacement.
Villa already submitted a bid for the Argentine, but fell short of the Gunners valuation.

    2

Aston Villa have launched a £20m bid for Arsenal keeper Emiliano MartinezAccording to The Athletic, they have submitted a second offer which is said to be closer to the £20m Arsenal want for Martinez.
The 28-year-old is seeking a move away from the Emirates having not been promised the No1 jersey next season.
After German Bernd Leno, 28, suffered an injury in June, Martinez filled in between the posts until the delayed end of last season.

But despite impressing during that spell, it is understood he has not been guaranteed his place back in the starting line up.
With Martinez wanting regular football it has prompted Villa to make a move.
Tom Heaton is out with a knee injury and will miss the start of the campaign, leaving the club in need of a stopper.
Arsenal would also be left searching for a replacement to provide back up and competition to Leno.

Brentford’s David Raya is an Arsenal transfer target

It is claimed Brentford’s Raya is Arteta’s preferred option.
But the Championship side – who lost in the play-off final last year – are adamant he is not for sale.
Martinez’s hope of leaving for a new challenge rest on Arsenal finding another goalkeeper themselves.

Arsenal reject transfer talks over Emile Smith Rowe as Ligue 1 giants Monaco attempt summer move for midfielder

The attacking midfielder spent time on loan at Huddersfield last year before a fresh crack at the Gunners’ first-team.

Mikel Arteta began to cast his eye over Smith Rowe when pre-season training began on Monday.
The Mail report on Monaco’s early approach being rejected with Arsenal rating the 20-year-old at between £10million and £15m.
Leeds and Fulham are also named as interested parties in a loan deal for Smith Rowe.
While his hometown club Crystal Palace have made their interest in a permanent deal known.

Football.London believe the club have told Smith Rowe he will be in Arteta’s squad for the start of the coming season.
Having impressed in cup competitions for Arsenal across the last two campaigns, he has accrued experience with Huddersfield and German club RB Leipzig.
And Arteta recently declared: “I am excited to work with him.
“I have been talking with him and I have followed him during his spell on loan. I think he’s someone who can be pretty impressive.”

A huge squad overhaul is underway at Emirates Stadium which may promote Smith Rowe closer to the starting XI.
Incomings have been the order of the day so far with Willian in the bag, Cedric Soares and Pablo Mari’s loans being made permanent, and Gabriel Magalhaes on the way.
Alexandre Lacazette may be allowed to leave for £30m while Matteo Guendouzi and Mesut Ozil are thought to be up for sale, along with Wolves-bound Ainsley Maitland-Niles.

Arsenal eye shock swap transfer with Juventus involving Alexandre Lacazette and Man Utd target Federico Bernardeschi

ARSENAL could eye a transfer swap with Juventus involving Alexandre Lacazette and Federico Bernardeschi.
The Italian champions are searching for a forward under new manager Andrea Pirlo, who released veteran striker Gonzalo Higuain.

Bernardeschi has been linked with Manchester United
Wolves’ Raul Jimenez – who hit 27 goals last season – remain Juve’s No1 target.
But according to Nicolò Schira, Arsenal striker Lacazaette has emerged as an alternative.
And with the Serie A kings looking to reduce their wage bill, they may try to include attacker Bernardeschi in any deal with the Gunners.
Bernardeschi has been linked with Manchester United and despite playing 38 times last term the Italian’s career in Turin remains uncertain.

Reports in Italy say Pirlo has a seven-man shortlist as he targets a new centre-forward.
Alvaro Morata, Karim Benzema, Edin Dzeko, Arkadiusz Milk and Duvan Zapata also feature.
Pirlo has already stamped his mark with Juve having terminated the contracts of three players.

Blaise Matuidi was the first to go, joining David Beckham’s Inter Miami in MLS.

Now Higuain and Sami Khedira have followed, with talks between the club and the unwanted pair are ongoing as they seek a payout.

Arsenal and Man Utd transfer target Gabriel Maghales will make rivals ‘wait’ as Lille star decides on his future

GABRIEL MAGHALES has reportedly left his future up in their air after deciding he will “wait” on his next move.
The Lille defender was subject to interest from Napoli and Arsenal.

And it appeared the Gunners moved into pole position to sign the 22-year-old and even agreed a five-year contract with Mikel Areta’s side.
But despite reports Gabriel competed a medical after Lille accepted Arsenal’s £22million bid – Manchester United look to have hijacked the move.
It is understood United have bid for the Brazilian, causing him to consider his next step.
According to The Telegraph, following interest from Old Trafford, Gabriel is “more than happy to wait before making a final decision”.

Gabriel was believed to have given himself the weekend to think things over, but that suggestion has now been quashed.
United could now indeed be in the driving seat now as they can offer higher wages than Arsenal.

And Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side will also be playing in next season’s Champions League.
Arsenal thought they had a deal done after seeing off interest from Napoli.

But Arteta could be forced to look elsewhere following United’s game-changing move.
