Thomas Partey is free to move clubs if Atletico Madrid’s £45million release clause is met

The 25-year-old Dijon stopper is understood to have a medical in place ahead of signing a five-year deal.
Such a big profit margin will help in Mikel Arteta’s efforts to land another midfielder with Atletico Madrid’s Thomas Partey and Lyon’s Houssem Aouar top of his list.
The Gunners are looking to get even more fringe players off their books to fund any deals before the October 5 deadline.
Sokratis, Lucas Torreira, Shkodran Mustafi, Calum Chambers and Sead Kolasinac are all up for sale.
The North Londoners are also willing to listen to offers for Alexandre Lacazette and Matteo Guendouzi.
SunSport understands Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Rob Holding were two considered up-for-grabs.
But Arteta has had a change-of-heart over the pair, and wants to keep them after impressing in pre-season.

    5

Mason Greenwood’s 17-goal haul for Manchester United impressed the FIFA selectors

    5

Bukayo Saka is also among the most-improved stars of this year’s release

Both Greenwood, 18, and Saka, 19, have received double-figure boosts after announcing themselves to the footballing world.
With his primary position down as a right-midfielder, Greenwood comes in at 77, including 81 for pace and 78 for shooting.
That marks a 10-point upgrade for the England international, the same increase given to Saka.
The Arsenal wide-man now rates 75 with 84 for pace also his best asset, before a 77 for dribbling.

Top of the pile for FIFA 21’s most improved players is Serie A breakout star Marash Kumbulla, up by 15.
A relative unknown when promoted into the first-team of Hellas Verona last summer, the centre-back was highly impressive in his rookie year.
At 20, Albanian international Kumbulla is reportedly being watched by Tottenham, Chelsea, Manchester United and Roma.
New Juventus winger Dejan Kulusevski is bumped up by 13 along with Mexican youngster Sebastian Cordova.

Arsenal to win Premier League title odds slashed after impressive Fulham win as rivals Tottenham drift out

THE ODDS on a first Premier League title for Arsenal since 2004 have been slashed after the opening weekend.
Mikel Arteta’s men were highly impressive as they despatched Fulham in the new season’s opening fixture.

Willian set up two as Alexandre Lacazette, Gabriel Magalhaes and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang bagged in the 3-0 win.
It left the Gunners top of the pile, alongside Leicester, after the first handful of games in 2020/21.
Few expected Arsenal to challenge for the crown this season despite a busy summer of spending.
However they are threatening the tag of ‘dark horses’ – especially if star forward Aubameyang commits his future to the club.
Punters are yet to see title favourites Manchester City, as well as Manchester United and Chelsea.
The Blues face Brighton tonight before the Manchester duo get underway in a week’s time.
But champions Liverpool appeared vulnerable in squeezing past Leeds at Anfield and Tottenham were off the pace in losing to Everton.

Jose Mourinho slammed his players as “lazy” after Sunday’s 1-0 loss, leaving him at 5/4 to be sacked by Christmas.
Some may fancy Carlo Ancelotti’s men for their own run towards the top-four, while Leicester also started strongly with a cruise past West Brom.

Ladbrokes have cut Arsenal’s title odds from 33/1 to 25/1 in response to Saturday’s victory.
Spurs remain stuck at 50/1, with Manchester United (14/1) and Chelsea (9/1) unchanged ahead of their openers.
Despite strolling to last year’s title, Liverpool are second favourites, at 15/8, behind Pep Guardiola’s City.
The Citizens, who have so far added Nathan Ake and Ferran Torres to their squad this autumn, are rated at 4/5 before starting at Wolves on September 21.

And Gooners were singing their side’s praises declaring ‘we are back’ and suggesting their style of play was like ‘Wengerball’.
New signing Gabriel Magalhaes made a dream debut by bagging the second goal, securing a clean sheet and being named man of the match.
Former Chelsea man Willian also impressed on his Gunners bow by laying on a hat-trick of assists, including the ball for skipper Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to curl in Arsenal’s third.
The Brazilian hit the ground running after making the move across London, following in the footsteps of his restaurant co-owner David Luiz.
It was Alexandre Lacazette who got the impressive North London side on their way to collecting all three points after he stabbed in from close range with just eight minutes on the clock.
The promising display had supporters reminiscing about the glory years under legendary boss Arsene Wenger.
One fan tweeted: “This is so much better. Like Wengerball at times. Arsenal are back.”

Another added: “@Arsenal are back, I’m afraid.”

    4

A supporter said: “Best season opening performance in recent time.
“There are reasons to be hopeful this season.
“The glory days are coming back. Up Gunners!”
One Gooner was particularly enthusiastic after Arsenal came out on top in the lunchtime kick-off.
They said: “We’ve already won the league if you ask me.
“Get the beers in. The Arsenal are back.”

Alphonse Areola has joined Fulham on loan to battle for the No1 jersey

But having returned to PSG, the Ligue 1 champions had no plans to keep him.
It sparked a transfer pursuit with Arsenal said to be interested in the stopper.
But Areola, 27, will instead head to West London, with Fulham having the option to make the deal permanent.

Areola told FFCtv: “I am very happy everything is done. Scott Parker called me and I had a good feeling. He said he really wanted me.
“Fulham is a historic club in London and I have heard a lot about the stadium.
“I hope this season will be a good one for us. I want to bring my energy and do everything for this team to keep us where we belong to be.”
The Frenchman was keen to move on from PSG as he bids to keep his place as France’s third-choice stopper for the European Championships next summer.

It is understood he also favoured a move to the capital, having brought a house in London.

Arsenal to make new Aouar transfer bid and remain in talks with £54.5m Lyon star’s agent but may have to flog dead wood

ARSENAL are set to make a new bid for Lyon’s Houssem Aouar.
The Gunners have prioritised signing a midfielder this window but had a £31.2m PLUS player offer turned down by Lyon.

    1

Arsenal are set to make a new transfer bid for Lyon’s Houssem Aouar
According to FabrizioRomano, Arsenal are in talks with Aouar’s agent ahead of an improved bid.
But Lyon have made it clear they will not entertain anything lower than their £54.5m valuation.
And they are also not interested in any move involving a swap.
Lyon’s sporting director Juninho revealed Arsenal attempted to offer Matteo Guendouzi, 21, in a deal for Aouar, 22 – but they rejected the proposal.
Juninho told Top of the Foot: “I get on very well with Edu, we spoke on the phone.
“Aouar is really appreciated by Mikel Arteta.
“Guendouzi was discussed during the call, he is a great player, but he is the wrong profile.

“We are not interested in that at all, we cut the conversation.”

Arsenal boss Arteta will need to sell this window, as they cannot afford to match Lyon’s asking price for Aouar.
Emiliano Martinez, 28, Sokratis Papastathopoulos, 32, Rob Holding, 24, and Lucas Torreira, also 24, are among those linked with an Emirates exit.
Hector Bellerin, 25, has also attracted attention from Barcelona, Bayer Leverkusen and PSG.

Mesut Ozil sends Arsenal fans into meltdown with savage tweet about why he would never join Tottenham

MESUT OZIL won over Arsenal fans online after mocking Tottenham’s lack of silverware.
The German midfielder conducted a Q&A on Twitter and asked if he would rather play for Spurs or retire.

Ozil responded: “If I don’t want to win a cup, I should go there.”
And the jibe to Arsenal’s bitter rivals had Gooners hailing the playmaker.
One said: “I take it back, he’s well worth the £350,000 a week.”
Another said: “Give this man a statue already.”

Tottenham have not won a trophy since 2008, when they lifted the League Cup.
Ozil further caught the attention of fans when he revealed he is fit to play against Fulham in Arsenal’s opening game of the season.
He said: “I’m fit & ready and doing my best.
“Unfortunately it’s not in my hands to decide about the squad on the weekend. We will see!”

Ozil did not play a single minute for the Gunners after the Premier League restart in June.
He had suffered a back injury, but is believed to have fallen down the pecking order under new manager Mikel Arteta.
And despite speculation Ozil could leave, his agent maintained the player wanted to finish the final year in his contract, due to expire next summer.
And the ex-Real Madrid man has been given hope he could rejuvenate his Arsenal career after Arteta insisted the whole squad will start on a clean slate.
He explained: “Everybody is going to have the same opportunities.
“They all have to show with their performances and their attitude that they are better than their team-mates and contributing to what we want to achieve this season.”
