Nicolas Pepe admits he is ‘frustrated’ at Arsenal and wants to play more to ‘find a smile again’

NICOLAS PEPE has confessed to being ‘frustrated’ by his slow second season at Arsenal.
The Gunners’ record signing put together a reasonable first year in England but has failed to impress in the early weeks of 2020-21.

Playing opportunities have been limited under Mikel Arteta, who has favoured the winger for Europa League games.
Despite scoring twice and registering two assists in Europe, Pepe is yet to start a game of this season’s Premier League.
And that has left the £72million man disappointed with his opportunities.

Pepe told Canal+ via Metro: “My goal is to play more, have a little more playing time.
“A player who plays is happy. For me, I would like to play a little more to find a smile again.
“[Arteta] wants me to be 100 per cent focused during the 90 minutes of the match.

“Afterwards, I see during training that I will be a substitute the following weekend.

“But the coach speaks to me, he also has assistants who are there for that.
“But it is frustrating for any player to be on the bench.
“The coach makes his choices. It’s up to me to show him that I deserve that chance.”
Arteta has stuck with a 3-4-3 system in the league with new signing Willian starting in Pepe’s position on the right wing.
Yet goals have been hard to come by for the Gunners, who have just a single win in four games domestically.

Arsenal have failed to score a league goal from open play for six-and-a-half hours.
Pepe will hope to earn a fresh chance as his side look to bounce back from a 3-0 defeat to Aston Villa against Leeds in a fortnight.
In the meantime, he is expected to earn some game time with Ivory Coast in an upcoming Africa Cup of Nations qualification double-header against Madagascar.

Arteta says Pepe can make a difference every week but he needs to find consistency More

Mesut Ozil shares workout videos as Arsenal outcast keeps in tip-top shape despite exile… and fans want him back

MESUT OZIL shared videos of him working out as the Arsenal outcast keeps himself in tip-top shape despite being frozen out by Mikel Arteta.
The German midfielder, 32, took to Instagram to share footage of his private gym session.

The World Cup winner is firmly on the fringes in North London after being excluded from the Gunners’ Premier and Europa League squads.
Ozil has continued to collect £350,000 a week in wages despite failing to play a minute of competitive football since March 7.
He captioned his social media post with the hashtags #AlwaysReady #StayInShape #privatesession #M1Ö.

It is not the first time Ozil has taken part in a lonely weights session after previously taping himself in the gym alongside the message ‘struggles only shape you for your purpose’.
And desperate fans showed their desire to have him back in the side in the comments section.
One supporter said: “Come back to Arsenal.”
Another added: “Can’t wait to see you back on the pitch.”

Arsenal suffered a shock 3-0 defeat to Aston Villa at the Emirates on Sunday night and Ozil caught the eye off the field with his action on Twitter.

The disgruntled star liked a number of tweets containing the phrase ‘Free Ozil’ before later unliking them.
One message where a fan had said ‘I miss you’ remained liked.
It is not the first time Ozil’s tweets have peaked interest after he live tweeted during the Europa League clash against Rapid Vienna.
The expensive outcast was offered a role in the BT Sport studio after revealing he was supporting his side on TV after once again being left out.
Boss Arteta has said he ‘did his best’ to involve Ozil but he wielded the axe as it was ‘best for the club’.

Arsenal blew chance of Jude Bellingham transfer as sporting director Edu didn’t have a clue who he was, says Tony Adams

TONY ADAMS claims Arsenal blew the chance to sign Jude Bellingham because sporting director Edu didn’t have a clue who he was.
Gunners legend Adams claims the North London club had done a deal to take the teenager from Birmingham before the likes of Manchester United and Borussia Dortmund entered the scene.

But he says the ousting of recruitment chief Sven Mislintat, as part of the power shift at the Emirates to bring in former player Edu, cost them one of Europe’s brightest young talents.
Bellingham has today been called up to the England senior squad as another sign how much potential the 17-year-old Dortmund midfielder has.
Adams said: “I think it got lost, this one, in the transition of the chief scout at Arsenal going out.

“He was spotted very early on, not by me, by the Arsenal recruitment office.
“The chief scout was absolutely bowled over by him and the great prospect that he is.
“He had more or less done the deal, but at that moment the new sporting director Edu came in from Brazil and had no European experience and no UK experience.
“I think it got lost in the transition, Edu didn’t know nothing about this player.”

Speaking on Sky Sports’ The Football Show, Adams added: “Unfortunately the chief scout had the deal kind of done – we missed that one unfortunately.

“They are the type of players we need to get hold of at the Arsenal if we’re ever going to develop and go forward.
“These kind of players we need to tie up, get them to the Arsenal and build a phenomenal league team.
“He’s a great talent but unfortunately he’s not joined the right club.”

Troy Deeney predicts Premier League top four at end of season with under-fire Man Utd and Arsenal missing out

TROY DEENEY believes Manchester United and Arsenal are BOTH set to miss out on the top-four this season.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Mikel Arteta have enjoyed good results in the early weeks of the campaign but major inconsistency has marred both sides’ form.

United bounced back from two defeats in a week to beat Everton on Saturday, moving them up to 14th.
While Arsenal were beaten 3-0 at home by Aston Villa – their third defeat in four in the league.
Fortunately for both sides, the mad nature of the Premier League in 2020-21 has kept them both within touching distance of the top half.

Southampton sit fourth going into the international break with Leicester top, leaving pre-season favourites Manchester City tenth.
Watford striker and SunSport columnist Deeney thinks the chaos will eventually simmer down to allow the usual suspects a place in the top four.
He told talkSPORT: “I think it would be very naïve to say this early in the season that top four was done. This season is crazy.
“You are going to see some unbelievable results you never thought you’d see.

“Who thought we’d see Villa beat Liverpool the way they did, and the way they beat Arsenal in the manner they did.

“I think the top four, personally, will have Spurs, Liverpool, Chelsea and [Man] City. Not in that order.
“I still think Liverpool will win it; City second and then it’s a toss up between Spurs and Chelsea.”
Tottenham left it late to beat West Brom at the weekend, leapfrogging Liverpool into second.
And Chelsea are three points off the leaders having comfortably beaten Sheffield United.
That victory left fellow pundit Ally McCoist agreeing with Deeney, but putting City down as his title favourites.
He noted: “I have the exact same. I had City winning the league but I did have the option of changing it after the window closed.

“I’ve been so impressed with Liverpool’s signing of Jota and the way he’s started.
“I said City so I’m going to have to stick with that.
“I definitely think the top two will be City and Liverpool. I agree with you – it will be Chelsea and Tottenham.
“I’m more convinced Chelsea will be in the top four than Tottenham.”

Arsenal star Thomas Partey withdraws from Ghana squad after suffering thigh injury in Aston Villa defeat

ARSENAL star Thomas Partey has withdrawn from Ghana’s squad after suffering a thigh injury in the defeat to Aston Villa.
Midfielder Partey, 27, suffered the blow in the 3-0 loss at the Emirates on Sunday and Goal reports he will remain with the Gunners for treatment during the international break.

Partey was sent for a scan after the summer signing – who joined for £45million from Atletico Madrid on deadline day – was taken off at half-time with Arsenal trailing Villa 1-0.
Boss Mikel Arteta did not know the extent of the injury when he spoke after the game.
The Spaniard said: “We don’t know, we have to scan him tomorrow or the day after.

“He felt it straight away after seven or eight minutes.”
The former LaLiga star will miss the Black Stars’ back to back Africa Cup of Nations qualifying group games against Sudan on November 12 and 17.
Partey had been incredibly impressive in the 1-0 win at Old Trafford last week.
His amazing stats confirmed his dominance in the middle of the park against Manchester United’s midfield.

Partey won ELEVEN duels and had the best passing accuracy with 93 per cent at the Theatre of Dreams.

Red Devils legends Roy Keane and Paul Scholes emphatically praised his performance with Keane labelling Partey as a potential successor to his old nemesis Patrick Vieira.
But without their talented new star, Arsenal went down to an embarassing 3-0 defeat to last season’s relegation escape artists Villa.
To add insult to injury, it was boyhood Gooner Ollie Watkins who bagged a second-half brace after Bukayo Saka’s own goal to help seal Arsenal’s fate and prove a week is a long time in football.
Arsenal now find themselves in the bottom half of the Premier League table going into the international break with 12 points from eight games leaving the North Londoners 11th.

Arsenal fan wants Arteta SACKED and replaced by Pochettino or Allegri after Villa loss leaving Savage and Sutton stunned

CHRIS SUTTON and Robbie Savage were left stunned when one irate Arsenal fan called for Mauricio Pochettino to replace Mikel Arteta.
The Gunners lost 3-0 to Aston Villa on Sunday to continue their inconsistent form under the Spaniard.

It led to one supporter demanding former Tottenham boss Pochettino be brought in over the international break.
Gooner Richie told BBC 5 Live’s 606 phone-in: “Mikel Arteta has to go tonight and we need to use the international break to bring in Max Allegri or Mauricio Pochettino.
“I’ve run out of patience and I think I speak for a lot of Arsenal fans when I say that.

“He should have done what Lampard or Gerrard did. That’s manage at a smaller club, cut their [teeth], and maybe come back in a few years. It’s too big of a step up for him.
“He won the FA Cup but that papered over a load of cracks.”
The radio show’s presenters were left baffled by the notion, with Savage calling out ‘Tonight?!’ as Richie gave his reasoning.

You’re going early here, it’s ridiculous. Where’s your patience?
    Chris Sutton

Fellow former Premier League star Sutton felt that the desire to see Arteta leave was bonkers.

He stated: “You’re going early here, it’s ridiculous. Where’s your patience?”
Arteta has struggled to get the Gunners’ attack moving with no league goals from open play for six-and-a-half hours.
Furthermore, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been a big disappointment and continues to be played down the left wing by his manager.
But Arsenal held the best defensive record in the league until the weekend and Arteta has delivered an FA Cup and Community Shield since taking over in December 2019.
The prospect of ex-Spurs favourite Pochettino coming in is rather unlikely, although the Argentine is on the lookout for a job.

He told Sky Sports earlier in the month: “I always feel ready to get back involved in the game. I love football, it’s my job.
“It’s not a stress when you are working, it’s not a stress to go into the training ground, it’s not a stress to prepare the game, it’s not a stress to compete.
“My hair is long, look. I hope to cut it when we start working again to work. I am looking forward again to being involved in the game.”

Arteta has worse record than Emery at this stage, losing more games and lower win percentage after Aston Villa loss

MIKEL ARTETA continues to fare badly when compared to Unai Emery’s start to life at Arsenal.
The Premier League club are expected to be incredibly patient with their former midfielder as he sets about reviving their Champions League dream.

⚠️ Read our Arsenal live blog for the latest news from The Emirates

But Sunday’s 3-0 loss to Aston Villa was another stumble amid the team’s remarkably inconsistent form.
Only a week beforehand, the Gunners had claimed a seemingly vital 1-0 win at Manchester United.
And yet that hard work was thrown out the window with the startling defeat at Emirates Stadium, which saw Arsenal lose their status as the league’s best defence.

When comparing Emery and Arteta’s record after 28 league games in charge, the current boss had been comfortably ahead in terms of goals conceded.
The Gunners have still only let in 31 goals under Arteta, compared to the 38 of his predecessor at this point.
Emery’s brand of football clearly traded that security for attacking threat – producing 19 more goals than his countryman.

Ultimately, points on the board are the most important stat and the current Villarreal coach won 17 and drew five of his first 28 league games in the dugout.

That compares to 13 wins and six draws for Arteta, who has lost three more games than Emery to stand 11 points worse off.
One other vital factor to consider is trophies, where the younger of the Spaniards is clearly ahead with an FA Cup and Community Shield in the bag.
And Emery’s only full season in charge dramatically descended in its final weeks as three straight defeats saw Arsenal miss out on fourth place.

But Arteta has a big job on to turn things around.
With three defeats in his last four, he takes his Gunners to Leeds next before tricky clashes with Wolves and bitter rivals Tottenham.
Integral to his hopes could be the fitness of Thomas Partey, injured in the defeat to Villa, and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who failed to even have a shot on Sunday.

Darren Bent believes Arsenal’s Aubameyang has not looked the same since new deal More
