Arsenal transfer blow with Real Madrid ‘not contemplating letting Martin Odegaard leave on permanent deal this summer’

REAL MADRID reportedly expect Martin Odegaard to return to Spain in the summer following his loan spell at Arsenal. The Gunners signed the midfielder in January for a fee of £1.8million and he has produced some stellar performances for the club.

Goals against Tottenham and Olympiacos, as well as a starring role in the comeback draw with West Ham, have made him an integral part of Mikel Arteta’s plans.
It is said that the Premier League side are very open to the idea of keeping Odegaard past the summer.
But, according to Madrid publication Marca, Real are not contemplating a sale.
Zinedine Zidane gave the Norwegian his first run in the team at the start of the campaign but a knee issue and a lack of match action hindered his form.
With the coach unable to guarantee a regular role post-January, he was allowed to leave but no purchase option was agreed as part of his loan.
Madrid reportedly want to provide Odegaard with a fresh crack at proving himself at the Bernabeu.
The 22-year-old, who was signed as a teen prodigy in 2015 and excelled at Real Sociedad last term, accepted a pandemic pay cut before heading for North London.
And he is thought to be determined to prove himself at the Bernabeu, even if he is thoroughly enjoying his time with Arsenal.

But the club are sweating over his injury status after limping out of Norway action on Wednesday night with an ankle knock.

Arsenal ‘so happy’ with Martin Odegaard and want to make transfer permanent but Zinedine Zidane will have final decision

THE FUTURE of Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane could be key in Arsenal’s bid to sign Martin Odegaard permanently.Reports suggest the Gunners are keen on a long-term deal for the Norway national team captain following his impressive loan spell.

But, according to transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano, the decision will be out of their hands as Los Blancos formulate their summer plans.
Much attention is being paid to the future of coach Zidane, who faces a difficult task to deliver silverware to follow up last year’s LaLiga crown.
Exactly what Madrid plan to do with Odegaard remains to be seen, particularly if a new manager is installed.
Odegaard was given a chance by Zidane following a solid loan stint with Real Sociedad last season.
He failed to truly impress in a nine-game spell before being allowed to join Arsenal in January.
In North London, the 22-year-old has been a star performer and was praised for a vibrant display against West Ham on the weekend.

Gunners boss Mikel Arteta said of Odegaard’s role in the three-goal comeback: “I think he had an incredible performance.
“He was very intelligent the way he read the game, the way he affected the game and again he showed how much he wanted to win.
“When everyone was a little trembling he gave us that stability and that composure on the ball and he created chance after chance. He’s been showing that, I think, from week one.
“The way he steps on the pitch, he always wants the ball, the way he commands the pressing. He’s been really influential.
“I think we’ve all been a bit surprised because he looks really shy and humble, but when he steps on that pitch he’s a real character and he loves to play football.”
Odegaard has also hit crucial goals against Olympiacos and Tottenham in recent weeks.

And the midfielder ignited fans’ hopes of a longer stay by describing the club as ‘home’ earlier this month.
He said: “I have felt at home since the first day.
“I am happy to be here and I feel great so I’m very pleased to be a part of the team.”

Arsenal verdict: Gunners discover forcing your opponents into mistakes is much better than gifting them out yourself

ARSENAL developed a taste for their own medicine with Sunday’s 3-3 draw at West Ham.The classic analysis of this game is that it was one of two halves.

The Gunners forced mistakes out of their opponents to rescue a pointCredit: Rex
In the first, the Hammers scored one very decent goal, one born out of an error, and one that enjoyed a touch of fortune.
In the second, it was Arsenal who enjoyed one of each, allowing them to leave London Stadium much the happier side.
It made for a fascinating encounter, for the neutrals at least, and suggested the Gunners are capable of learning from their own mistakes.
Too often in recent years, individual errors have been their downfall and Mikel Arteta has failed to put a stop to the sloppy passes, avoidable sendings-off and weak parries that have cost them several points.
Olympiacos and Burnley were just two beneficiaries of Arsenal’s kindness of late, and West Ham joined the club thanks to Bernd Leno’s soft hands after his defence fell asleep for the second goal on Sunday.
And yet the visitors managed to turn the tables and force their opponents into mistakes.
Alexandre Lacazette’s shot took a useful diversion for 3-1 before Craig Dawson punted a wicked Calum Chambers cross into his own net, setting up the cooly-crafted equaliser.
These moments were no coincidence. They came out of intense pressure and energetic movement, driven by Chambers, Lacazette, and Martin Odegaard in particular.

Bukayo Saka and sub Nicolas Pepe were also bright, in some contrast to Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang whose 80th-minute substitution raised nowhere near as many eyebrows as it should for a player of his quality.
Arsenal showed that they knew how to not just get West Ham under their thumb, but to press down and squeeze out the goals.
If they can show this energy and ruthlessness for the rest of the season, they may just make Europe again.
And who knows what might happen if they stop gift-wrapping errors of their own.

Arsenal fans want Miguel Azeez in first team and say ‘who needs Guendouzi?’ after starring for Gunners in FA Youth Cup

ARSENAL fans have called for Miguel Azeez to play in the first team after his stunning display in the FA Youth Cup. The Gunners progressed into the fifth round after beating Blackburn 4-1.

Khayon Edwards opened the scoring for Arsenal after just nine minutes.
Kido Taylor-Hart and Azeez then put the Gunners three goals ahead before half-time.
Rovers pulled one back just after the interval as Australian striker Zak Gilsenan made it 1-3.
But right-back Brooke Norton-Cuffy capped off the win in the the 90th minute to leave Arsenal home and dry.
The pick of the bunch came from midfielder Azeez, whose effort from outside the box sailed into the top corner.
It left Arsenal fans calling on manager Mikel Arteta to promote the 18-year-old into the first team.
One said: “The future of Arsenal.”
Another said: “Who needs Guendouzi when we have Azeez.”

One added: “Can’t wait to see him start in the Premier League. Top lad!”
Another added: “I said don’t forget the name.”
Azeez grew up idolising club legend Patrick Viera and Barcelona star Sergio Busquets.
He told Spanish journalist Guillem Balague in July 2020: “One of my idols is Sergio Busquets.
“I think he has been the best holding midfielder for a very long time.
“He always seems to have space around him, always plays with his head up, one step ahead. For me, I like to put some of his game into mine.
“When players run at 100mph they can’t really look at what is going on and sometimes you need to play with a little bit of composure.
“I always thought Patrick Vieira was a good player in that position as well.”

Arsenal new away kit for 2021-22 season ‘leaked online’ with Gunners set to wear yellow for next campaign

ARSENAL’S rumoured away kit for the 2021-22 season has been leaked online with the Gunners set to wear yellow for next season. Their home kit was among plenty of Premier League jerseys released this week, by FootyHeadlines.com, who have a reputation of getting their hands on designs early.
Arsenal’s rumoured away kit for the 2021-22 season has been leaked online
In their latest reveal, Arsenal’s proposed away kit has navy around the collar and arms, with a red stripe underneath.
Interestingly, their crest is a cannon, opposed to the usual logo, in a throwback to the Gunners’ 1989 away shirt.
Arsenal’s rumoured home kit also has a new twist, as the kit features more navy than fans might be used to.
The adidas stripes run from the neck to the shoulders.
And the collar and sleeves also include a single line navy trim.
The strip is very similar to the 2012-14 home kit which also featured heavy navy stripes at the end of the sleeves and collar.
Images of the North Londoners’ third strip have also surfaced online, which has ‘a look inspired by the 1990s.’
Adidas adopted a similar colour to this season’s third shirt, which is a combination of dark blue and black.

However they have scrapped the spray paint design which was included this campaign.
The apparent leaks comes just days after their pre-match training shirts were unveiled online.
Arsenal have a history of producing some of the more popular shirts with this season’s home, away and third kits earning rave reviews.

Arsenal verdict: Uninspiring Gunners push their luck again and Spurs-esque banana skin may be just around the corner

THANK GOD for Spurs, Mikel Arteta might sit down tonight and whisper to himself. While Jose Mourinho’s side were grabbing headlines with their Dinamo implosion, neighbours Arsenal were busy making a bit of a mess themselves.
Mikel Arteta dodged the limelight and the Europa League trapdoor on ThursdayCredit: AFP
Sometimes rival fans can be accused of spending more time focusing on each other than their own team – but Gooners could not be blamed for doing so on Thursday.
With a 3-1 first-leg lead behind them, this was either a night for Arsenal to professionally stroll into Friday’s quarter-final draw or confidently lay down a big marker to their fellow challengers.
    Instead, they did neither.
Olympiacos were not particularly good, aside from the bogeyman figure of Youssef El Arabi, who was gifted an early warning shot and notched a deflected winner-on-the-night in the second-half.
But then, Benfica were not particularly good either. And that tie required some last-ditch heroics from Kieran Tierney, the left-back who is continually Arsenal’s best player at both ends.
Arteta will likely insist that the result is all that matters, particularly in cup football where the Spaniard has experienced more success than expected during his time in the Emirates dugout.
Indeed, this was not the nightmare of last season’s last-32 where the Greeks punished Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s bad night in front of goal to actually knock Arsenal out.
The misses were still there this time but the deficit too big to overcome.

Looking ahead, it is probably worse for Arteta that a plucky, energetic upstart such as Zagreb may land in their laps instead of Spurs.
It seems that the banana skin is the inevitable exit route if the team continues to turn in uninspiring performances, so they may as well hope for a familiar enemy or a more established side against whom to raise their game in the last-eight.
A strong league finish is not out of the question but otherwise this tournament is it for Arsenal, and they’re not even doing that well in it.
Still, it could be worse. They could be Spurs.
