Arsenal interested in shock Riyad Mahrez transfer with ‘Man City willing to sell winger along with Raheem Sterling’

ARSENAL have been linked with a surprise move for Manchester City star Riyad Mahrez. The Premier League champions are reportedly ready to cash in on a number of stars to fund a squad refresh this summer.
Gabriel Jesus, Raheem Sterling and Riyad Mahrez are all reportedly up for saleCredit: AP
Jack Grealish and Harry Kane could cost as much as £300million with Pep Guardiola targeting the duo.
And Mahrez, 30, is one star who may be moved on to make way for Villa playmaker Grealish, as reported by the Mail.
The ex-Leicester winger cost a club-record £60million when moving from the King Power in 2018 and is under contract for another two years.
Guardiola is expected to select him to start against Chelsea in tonight’s Champions League final having starred in the knockout stages.
But Mahrez is reportedly not safe from a summer sale, along with Raheem Sterling, Aymeric Laporte and Gabriel Jesus.
Barcelona and Real Madrid are noted as keen on Sterling while Arsenal have been credited with interest in both the England ace and Mahrez.

The Gunners were strongly linked with a move for the Algerian during his Leicester days.

The player even claimed in 2019 that he was on the verge of joining Arsene Wenger in North London long before his City switch.
He stated: “For me, it’s clear that I lost two years at the highest level. Because instead of arriving at City at 27, I could have been there at 24, 25.
“Leicester blocked me. They told me, ‘You’re not leaving, you’re not leaving’.
CHAMPIONS LEAGUE SPECIAL 30/1 FOR MAN CITY OR 40/1 FOR CHELSEA TO LIFT THE TROPHY

“My agent had spoken to Wenger who really wanted me. It was nearly all done with Arsenal in 2016. I was really frustrated.”
A move to Arsenal this summer would likely prove more difficult given the club’s financial difficulty and lack of European football.
Mikel Arteta is attempting to pull off a wide-ranging squad overhaul but several players may have to leave before any cash can be splashed.

Premier League final table without VAR revealed with Arsenal in FOURTH and beating Chelsea to Champions League spot

ARSENAL would have finished FOURTH without VAR this season.A SunSport study of all the decisions overturned by Stockley Park show the Gunners were the biggest “sufferers” from the system.

If all on-field original decisions had stuck, Mikel Arteta’s men would have earned four more points.
That would have been enough to take them above Spurs, West Ham AND Chelsea and steal the final Champions League spot.
Instead, Arsenal finished eighth and OUT of Europe for the first time since 1995-96.
According to SunSport’s statistics, the final table would have shown a number of differences if VAR was not in operation.
Liverpool, five points adrift of Manchester United in the actual table, would have swapped places with the Old Trafford side to take second, although still 13 points behind champions Manchester City.
And West Ham, thrilled by the prospect of Europa League football, would have finished OUTSIDE the European spots on goal difference behind Spurs.
FREE BETS: GET OVER £2,000 IN SIGN UP OFFERS HERE

In total, there were 119 decisions changed over the course of the season, with 39 goals allowed, 28 penalties awarded and 22 spot-kicks waived.
There was also 17 red cards awarded after VAR intervention.
Arsenal’s “net score” of minus-six on total VAR overrules – with three decisions changed in their favour and nine against – contributed to a loss of four points over the entire campaign.
With those points, Arteta’s side would have edged out Chelsea for fourth on goals scored by a single strike, with both having a goal difference of plus-20.
Liverpool, who had a league-leading 12 overrules against them, compared to just six in their favour, lost three points.
Manchester United enjoyed the most fortune from Stockley Park, with 11 changes in their favour and eight decisions changed against them, giving them three points more than they would have had without VAR.

Burnley, who had five calls in their favour and none against, were the biggest beneficiaries in terms of net decisions, although it would have no impact on their 17th-placed finish.
Aston Villa, who survived last season because of that astonishing goalline technology blunder in the first match of Project Restart, would have leapfrogged Everton to earn a top-half finish without VAR, with Brighton up from 16th to 14th.
And while the bottom three would, unsurprisingly, have still been relegated, West Brom would have finished a place and a point ahead of Fulham, rather than one behind.

Arsenal ‘axe Brazilian chief medic Bruno Mazziotti less than a year after joining’ following Steve Bould sacking

MIKEL ARTETA’S Arsenal rebuild has continued behind the scenes with chief medic Bruno Mazziotti reportedly let go.The Brazilian arrived less than a year ago following good reviews of his work with Paris Saint-Germain and his country’s national team.
Bruno Mazziotti is set to leave Arsenal this summer
However, according to Goal, the Gunners have informed him that his contract will not be renewed.
The news follows the departure of Steve Bould from the Under-23s.
The ex-defender spent over three decades in North London, first as a player and later as assistant to Arsene Wenger.
But a tenth-placed finish in the 13-team Premier League 2 has led to academy chief Per Mertesacker being charged with finding a replacement.
Arsenal boss Arteta has long spoken of the need for a summer revamp, which was expected to focus on the first-team.
David Luiz will leave at the end of the season when his contract expires.

Mazziotti had praised the defender after he made an emotional farewell speech to the squad.
He recently wrote on Instagram: “David Luiz, thanks for everything!!!
“I feel very honored to have been able to share the day to day with you this season. The season ends tomorrow, but there were several teachings.

“Another one that sums up his trajectory, ‘If you want glory, always be brave’. Another game to end a season of immense learning for everyone. Be strong Arsenal.”

Arsenal ‘line up £40m Emiliano Buendia and Real Betis star Nabil Fekir’ as transfer alternatives to Martin Odegaard

ARSENAL are reportedly set to reignite their interest in Emiliano Buendia if Martin Odegaard returns to Real Madrid. The Norwegian playmaker is on loan from Los Blancos and a string of impressive displays has led Mikel Arteta to seek an extension – or even a permanent deal.

Real are said to want Odegaard, 22, back in the summer although the future of coach Zinedine Zidane may be a factor in that decision.
According to Goal, Arsenal are planning to bid for Buendia or Real Betis star Nabil Fekir if he moves on.
Buendia, 24, won the Championship’s and Norwich’s Player of the Season award having led the Canaries to promotion.
Long tipped as a top target for the Gunners, the Argentine has reportedly been scouted at length by the North London club.
A deal would cost upwards of £40million with Norwich back in the Premier League and Buendia under a three-year contract.
Boss Daniel Farke said in recent weeks: “They are all on long-term contracts, so if a club really wants to buy one of our key players, they have to invest an unbelievable amount of money, and it would be pretty difficult.
“But if there is a club which wants to do this and put some crazy offers out, then it is more like you can also use this money to improve and move on as a club.
“As a head coach, though, my first topic is that I want to work with our best players.”

Fekir, 27, is described as further down the shortlist in Arteta’s bid to bring in a creative player this summer.
The midfielder almost joined Liverpool in 2018 and has scored 11 goals in two seasons with Betis.
The Seville club are in the fight for the Europa League ahead of the final weekend of LaLiga fixtures and may struggle to keep their star players if they fail to finish inside the top six.

Crystal Palace 1 Arsenal 3: Gabriel Martinelli and Nicolas Pepe score late to ruin Roy Hodgson’s final home game

ROY HODGSON was given the send-off he deserved as Palace bid a fond farewell to their departing manager. The 73-year-old former England boss received a guard of honour from both sets of players before kick-off and a standing ovation from the fans at the final whistle.
Roy Hodgson’s final home game ended in late heartbreakCredit: Reuters
And how he is going to miss nights like this, with the old ground shaking to the rafters and his team sweating blood to pull off another of those famous fightbacks.
What a pity they weren’t able to give him the victory he wanted to sign off his final match at Selhurst Park in style.
Stoppage time goals from Gabriel Martinelli and Nicolas Pepe were enough to secure all three points for Arsenal and, incredibly, leave Mikel Arteta still dreaming of Europe.
The Gunners are now just one point behind both Spurs and Everton and plotting a dramatic last-day heist.
For while Spurs visit FA Cup winners Leicester and Everton are away to Champions Manchester City on Sunday, Arsenal appear to have a much easier task at home to Brighton.
This hard-fought victory means they have already accumulated more points than they managed last season in spite of all their recent issues.

Arteta wasn’t even a twinkle in his mother’s eye when Hodgson launched his managerial career with Halmstads 45 years ago.
But the Premier League’s youngest boss is proving to be a quick learner after looking in danger of beating Hodgson to the managerial  exit not so long ago.
Arteta says he cannot wait to get a bit of a summer break while Hodgson will soon have  more time on his hands than he knows what to do with.
But at least he will head into retirement buoyed by the memory of his rousing send-off from the returning supporters.
No club has missed its fans more than Palace this season.
It’s bad enough that there is no longer a giant eagle swooping over the heads of the visiting players and scaring seven bells out of them as they emerge from the tunnel.

Christian Benteke celebrates finding the net againCredit: AP
But without the slightly sinister presence of the Holmesdale Fanatics recent games at Selhurst have been distinctly lacking in atmosphere.
It doesn’t help when the team has been drifting along in 13th place virtually all year, never in danger of going down nor threatening to break into the top half of the table.
    Just making up the numbers.
But the return of 6,500 supporters coupled with Hodgson’s last home game in charge finally gave Palace something to play for.
And no-one had more reason to raise his game than Wilfried Zaha, who clearly had a point to prove to Arsenal.
Unai Emery famously wanted to sign Zaha for the Gunners in 2019 but the club overruled him and forked out a club record £72million for Nicolas Pepe instead.
There are 14 Palace players out of contract this month but unfortunately for Zaha he isn’t one of them.
Gabriel Martinelli grabbed a late goal for ArsenalCredit: Reuters
Gabriel Martinelli celebrates as Arsenal pull in frontCredit: AFP
He is locked into a £130,000-a-week contract which still has another two years to run.
So the best he can hope for this summer is that Palace’s next manager won’t be quite as determined to keep him at Selhurst as Hodgson has been.
But Zaha wasn’t the only local lad keen to impress as ‘Croydon de Bruyne’ Emile Smith Rowe set out to show Palace just what they missed out on when they let him slip through their net.
Arsenal’s young playmaker was pulling all the early strings as his team looked for a fourth consecutive League win for the first time in almost three years.
Pierre-Emerick was inches away from connecting with Calum Chambers’ second minute cross and was later denied by Joel Ward’s crucial last-ditch challenge right in front of goal.
Yet the visitors did not have it all their own way, with Gary Cahill and Christian Benteke both heading narrowly wide for Palace and Jeffrey Schlupp drawing a decent save from Bernd Leno.
Nicolas Pepe doubled his tally to see Arsenal offCredit: Reuters
But they were undone by a slick 35th minute move involving Bukayo Saka and Kieran Tierney before Pepe volleyed Arsenal into the lead.
It was a moment to savour for Tierney, who had been booed mercilessly ever since going down from a kick by Cahill right in front of the Holmesdale End.
Palace were clearly not impressed by the Scottish left-back and tempers flared right after that goal  when Tierney was flattened by Benteke’s industrial challenge.
But the beefy striker got his revenge when he powered Palace level with a diving header from Andros Townsend’s 62nd minute free-kick.
Yet just when it looked as though Arsenal had squandered their chances of last-gasp European qualification, substitute Martinelli nipped in to fire them ahead again in the 91st minute.
It was a bitter blow for Palace, who had looked likelier winners up to that point.
And before they had a chance to catch their breath, they were undone again in the fifth minute of stoppage time when Pepe was allowed to cut inside for his 14th goal of the season.

Arsenal could revive Neto transfer bid with Barcelona keeper set to play final game for club against Eibar

ARSENAL may pursue Barcelona’s second-choice goalkeeper Neto in the summer transfer window. That is according to a report from Mundo Deportivo, which claims that the Brazilian shot-stopper is set to play his last match for Barca when they visit Eibar on Saturday for the season’s climax.

The 31-year-old, who was targeted by the Gunners last January, will fill in for Marc-Andre ter Stegen between the sticks as the German star is set to undergo knee surgery.
Arsenal are reportedly looking to sell their No1 goalkeeper Bernd Leno in the summer following a series of high-profile mistakes in recent months against the likes of Everton, Wolves, Olympiacos, West Ham and Liverpool.
The same goes for back-up keeper Alex Runarsson, who has failed to impress as Leno’s No2 since his £1million move from Rennes in September.
The Iceland international has struggled to step up in the Europa League and had an absolute nightmare when the north Londoners lost 4-1 to Manchester City in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals.

Based on these reports, manager Mikel Arteta will soon be in dire need of a new goalkeeper after recently selling Emiliano Martinez and Matt Macey to Aston Villa and Hibernian respectively.
Neto, who has only amassed a mere 16 appearances since joining Barcelona from Valencia in a swap deal that included Jasper Cillessen in 2019, is not the only Arsenal target.

The Gunners are also keeping tabs on Athletic Bilbao goalkeeper Unai Simon, who has registered 43 appearances across all competitions this season.
Simon’s impressive performances in LaLiga has also attracted interest from West Ham, Borussia Dortmund and Monaco.
Arteta appears to have drawn an axe list ahead of the summer transfer window, which includes Leno, Hector Bellerin, Lucas Torreira, Sead Kolasinac, Ainsley Maintland-Niles and Matteo Guendouzi.
Arsenal are looking to raise at least £60m from player sales in order to fund their summer transfer bids as they are likely to miss out on European qualification for the first time in 25 years.

Stan Kroenke set to intervene to help Arsenal pay off a £120m loan owed to Bank of England after Covid hit finances

ARSENAL owner Stan Kroenke is set to personally intervene as the club pays back a £120million Government loan.Reports suggest the Gunners are intent on paying back the full amount this month having received the funds at the onset of the pandemic.
Stan Kroenke is reportedly ready to step in amid Arsenal’s financial woesCredit: Getty
According to Football.London, the American owner will help the club despite calls for Kroenke to sell his shares.
Kroenke, 73, is worth north of £5.75billion and the loan repayment also includes a 0.5 per cent interest rate worth £600,000.
It is said the club used the money to help pay off the contracts of Shkodran Mustafi and Sokratis Papastathopoulos earlier this year.
And although the option is available to apply for a 12-month extension in repaying the loan, Arsenal are reportedly ready to pay it back this month.
The coronavirus crisis hit the North London outfit hard with almost all of the club’s £100million annual matchday revenue lost during the pandemic.
In August, the Gunners announced plans to make 55 members of staff redundant.
Arsenal bosses were criticised for subsequently handing out mega contracts to new signing Willian and captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
The failure of Mikel Arteta’s side to qualify for next season’s Champions League will further impact their finances with participation in the Europa League also in major doubt.

Gooners have vehemently protested against Kroenke during the team’s on-pitch struggles and following the doomed European Super League plot.
Spotify founder Daniel Ek attempted to pull off a takeover with help from club legends Thierry Henry, Dennis Bergkamp and Patrick Vieira.
However, the Swede has claimed that Kroenke rejected his offer and has no intention to sell.

Arsenal outcast Matteo Guendouzi ‘close to completing permanent Marseille transfer with midfielder not in club plans’

LIGUE 1 club Marseille are reportedly on the verge of a deal for Arsenal midfielder Matteo Guendouzi.Mikel Arteta sent the Frenchman out on loan to Hertha Berlin after a falling out at Emirates Stadium.
Matteo Guendouzi is strongly linked with a move to MarseilleCredit: AFP
But he is not set to return to North London and SunSport revealed earlier this year that he is among the players Arsenal want to cash in on.
According to Le10Sport, the Gunners are in advanced talks with Marseille over the sale of Guendouzi.
The 22-year-old is out of contract in 2022 yet should still bring in a reasonable transfer fee having cost Arsenal £7million in 2018.

Guendouzi played 24 times in a year-long stint with Hertha that did not pass without controversy.
In February, coach Pal Dardai criticised the youngster for diving too often in training.
He told Bild: “It’s like puberty for him, he’s kind of a rebel. He has to work and learn like an animal.

“In training, I always stop these kind of duels because you can’t fall to the ground like this. And, afterwards, he’s mad.”
Marseille are hoping to build a squad capable of reaching the Champions League after missing out on next year’s competition.
Guendouzi’s move is reportedly set to be completed in the summer yet his season is already over after suffering a broken metartarsal.
The injury meant he sat out Saturday’s draw with Koln that confirmed Hertha’s Bundesliga status for another season, and extended their unbeaten run to eight games.
