And he is an admirer of the director of football at the Morocco FA, who worked with the Wales national side under Chris Coleman and Ryan Giggs.
Roberts is still under contract in Africa and a key member of their staff — but could be tempted by a move to the Premier League.
Arsenal legend Vieira, 45, was a shock selection for the Eagles post.
Palace will also pick his brains over transfer targets, with around £50million to spend on badly needed new talent.

Vieira has strong links with Manchester City and the Gunners — but he also has good knowledge of French football, where Palace have been looking for bargains.
The former midfielder said: “I am really excited to have this opportunity to return to the Premier League, and manage this great football club, as we begin a new chapter together.
“It is a project that is really appealing to me, having spoken a lot with the Chairman and Sporting Director about their ambition and plans for the whole club, including the Academy.
“The club has fantastic foundations in place after many years in the Premier League, and I hope we can make further improvements and continue to drive the club forward.

“I am also very excited to experience the atmosphere the club’s supporters make at Selhurst Park and away from home too, and I know just how important that can be for the team.”
Palace chairman Steve Parish added: “I’m delighted and excited that Patrick has agreed to join Crystal Palace as our manager following successfully learning his trade at the City Group, and experiencing positive managerial spells at New York City and then Nice, who he led to the Europa League.
“We have a lot to do to prepare in the coming weeks and I look forward to working closely with Patrick and Dougie in bringing in some new faces to help us all to a successful season.”
Palace kick off their Prem campaign with an away trip to Chelsea on August 14.

Man Utd hand Arsenal and Tottenham transfer boost after pulling out of Jules Kounde race to focus on Raphael Varane

ARSENAL and Tottenham’s hopes of signing Sevilla star Jules Kounde have been boosted after Manchester United turned their attention elsewhere, reports suggest.Kounde enjoyed a stunning campaign with the Andalusians as he made 49 appearances across all competitions and earned immense interest from the Premier League.

United, Arsenal and Tottenham are said to be keeping tabs on the star centre-back, whose impressive performances in LaLiga earned him an international call-up by France for Euro 2020.
But Dean Jones recently told The Done Deal Show that the Red Devils are prioritising other defensive targets, mainly Real Madrid star Raphael Varane.
The Manchester giants are initially looking to officially seal Jadon Sancho’s move from Borussia Dortmund.

United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is then determined to sign a top centre-back that will partner up with Harry Maguire.
But the Manchester giants are focused on Varane and Villarreal ace Pau Torres, who could move to Old Trafford in a swap deal that would see Eric Bailly going back the other way.
That works as a major boost for Arsenal and Tottenham, who are highly likely to move for the 22-year-old defender.
The Gunners appear to be prioritising Brighton ace Ben White but Manchester City have also joined the bidding war for the England international.

Spurs new boss Nuno Espirito Santo is said to be keen on making Kounde his first signing in North London.
However, both London rivals will have to splash some serious cash to convince Sevilla to sell their best defender.
City tried their luck last summer but a bid of around £50million was not enough to do business with the Spanish giants.

Sergio Ramos ‘rejects £10m Man Utd offer after talks over free transfer as Arsenal and PSG eye Real Madrid legend’

REAL MADRID legend Sergio Ramos has attracted interest from the Premier League after his exit from the Santiago Bernabeu, reports suggest.Ramos’ 16-year stint at Real came to an end last month after the player and club president Florentino Perez failed to reach an agreement over a new contract.

Los Blancos were willing to offer a one-year deal on reduced terms but the 35-year-old defender held out for a two-year contract and that standstill led to the former team captain’s departure.
According to the Daily Star, Manchester United approached the Spain international and proposed a £10million deal, with the option of a second season.
But Ramos rejected that offer and reports suggest he is close to joining Paris Saint-Germain, where he has been handed a straight two-year deal with his annual salary slightly minimised.

According to Goal, however, there has been no agreement between the player and PSG.
The same source, though, confirms that the Ligue 1 giants and Ramos have indeed come in contact without a formal offer being tabled.
Arsenal have also asked to be kept in the loop regarding the star centre-back’s future.

United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is determined to sign a top defender to partner up with Harry Maguire at the back.
However, the Red Devils appear to be prioritising the likes of Real star Raphael Varane and Villarreal ace Pau Torres.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta, on the other hand, would also like someone to lead his backline but seems to be prioritising the signing of a midfielder.
If Ramos ultimately joins PSG then he will reunite with former Real team-mates Keylor Navas and Angel Di Maria as well as fellow Spain players Ander Herrera and Pablo Sarabia.

Arsenal eye transfer swoop for Sassuolo right-back Mert Muldur as Mikel Arteta prepares for Hector Bellerin exit

ARSENAL have identified Sassuolo ace Mert Muldur as a potential replacement for Hector Bellerin. That is according to The Athletic, who claim Gunners manager Mikel Arteta has been keeping a close watch on Muldur following an impressive Serie A campaign.

The north Londoners are likely to lose Bellerin in the summer as the right-back is looking for a new challenge.
The Spain international has been linked with a move to Inter Milan, who are looking for someone to fill in for Paris Saint Germain-bound Achraf Hakimi.
Therefore, if the 26-year-old puts an end to his eight-year stint at the Emirates then Arsenal will need a replacement.
And Muldur appears to be among Arteta’s top choices to reinforce his full-back options.

The 22-year-old defender stood out in an impressive season that saw Sassuolo finishing eighth in the Serie A table.
The Turkey international amassed one assist in 29 appearances across all competitions for the Italian side.
Muldur has proven to be quite versatile as he can also operate as a right midfielder and a centre-back.
He can also play at left-back, as proven from his performances at Euro 2020, which means he could also feature as a back-up option to Kieran Tierney.

Arsenal are looking to make some key signings during the summer transfer window following a hapless season that saw them missing out on Europe for the first time in 25 years.
However, Arteta understands that he will have to sell some players first in order to raise funds.
Bellerin appears to be on that transfer list along with the likes of Bernd Leno, Granit Xhaka, Matteo Guendouzi and Lucas Torreira.

Promoter Eddie Hearn told iFL TV: “The date is September 18th or 25th, most likely 25th at Spurs.”
Hearn has been going back and forth with Usyk’s promoter Alex Krassyuk with contracts being exchanged.
But Hearn has no fear the fight will be announced soon, as he faces a wait to find what capacity of fans that can attend Spurs’ 62,000-seater.
He said: “We’ve also got a lot to wait to finalise in terms of the crowd and what we’re allowed at Spurs on that date.
“And that’s why we’re probably not rushing it as I couldn’t really tell you at this stage to say, ‘Yes, we can go on sale tomorrow and let’s sell 80,000 tickets’.
“Because, that will evolve other the next couple of weeks. So there’s been nothing that’s happened that makes me say, ‘Ooo, well don’t think it’s going happen’.
“But September 25th is quite a long time away, so I guess we’re not up to a deadline where we’re trying to close it tonight.
“The team went to see Spurs the other day and the fixtures are out now and they’re away on the 25th, so that’s a date that could work.”

And it comes two months after he led the Swedish club to the quarter-finals of last term’s Women’s Champions League where they were beaten 4-0 over two-legs by German giants Bayern Munich.
BETTING SPECIAL: GET ENGLAND TO BEAT GERMANY AT 14/1
Eidevall, 38, said:  “I feel honoured to be taking this role. Arsenal have a rich history, more successful than any other women’s team in England.
“I want to add to these honours. It’s super important that we win, and we will be very ambitious about that, but it’s even more important that we live the values and defend the club badge on a day-to-day basis.
“I cannot wait to do that at Arsenal.”
Eidevall, 38, started coaching at 23 with men’s side Lunds BK in 2006, becoming head coach three-and-a-half years later guiding the team to Sweden’s second division title.
And he began his managerial life in the women’s game at Rosenburg in 2013 first as an assistant before taking on the head coach’s role.
Eidevall led the Malmo-based side to back-to-back titles in the top tier of women’s football in Sweden in 2013 and 2014.
The coach then spent a brief spell working as Henrik Larsson’s assistant at Helsingborgs, one of the country’s second division men’s sides, before returning to Rosenburg.
And the Swede led the women’s side to their third league title in 2019 and a Swedish Cup win in 2018.
Arsenal, who qualified for the Women’s Champions League last term will be hoping their new boss can guide them to success in Europe’s top competition and on the domestic stage.
The team finished third in the WSL last term and won their last major trophy in 2019 when they claimed the league title.
Club chief executive Vinai Venkatesham said: “Jonas was the standout candidate of everybody that we considered for this role and we think he’s going to be a great fit to be the head coach of Arsenal Women.

“It was important that we found the right person to represent our club, both on the pitch and off the pitch.
“As for his coaching style, he will bring the style of football that Arsenal fans want to see. He’s someone who likes to play on the front foot, high-tempo, attractive, attacking football.
“The thing that really came out in all of our interactions with Jonas is how much he wanted to join Arsenal and his desire to be part of this club, to be part of our future and to help us deliver our ambitions going forward. So we’re delighted that he’s joining us.”

The 20-year-old returned to Saint-Etienne immediately after signing for the Premier League side and was left out of Mikel Arteta’s 25-man squad for the 2020-21 season, leading to a fresh loan move with Nice from January.
In 22 games on the Mediterranean coast, he did enough to make the shortlist for the Ligue 1 Team of the Year.
However, Arsenal are still not sure that he is ready for a place in the team.
Another stint away from the club is deemed likely, as reported by French outlet FootMercato.
Arteta is set to take a look at Saliba when pre-season begins but is described as leaning towards a loan transfer, with the player under contract to 2024.
As many as nine clubs are already named as interested in a potential deal.

Southampton and Newcastle are the two English sides reportedly keen along with Bayer Leverkusen, Nice, Rennes, Marseille, Lille, and two unnamed clubs in Italy.
David Luiz is leaving Arsenal once his contract expires at the end of the month, leaving Saliba, Gabriel Magalhaes, Rob Holding, Pablo Mari and Calum Chambers as centre-back options for Arteta.
But the coach is reportedly still determined to bring in a new face with Brighton’s Ben White strongly linked.
Fulham defender Tosin Adarabioyo is another rumoured target for the Gunners.
As the 20-21 campaign ended, Arteta insisted that Saliba will get his chance to impress next season.
We will make a decision based on an agreement of the role each player is going to have in our squad.Mikel Arteta

He said last month: “William is our player for sure and that’s the decision we’re going to be taking soon.
“When we finish the season we will sit down and discuss the roles of every member in our squad and how they can fulfil that role.
“He’s our player so he’ll be back here for sure.
“After that, we will make a decision based on an agreement of the role each player is going to have in our squad.”
