Arsenal have become the latest Premier League club to offer their fans cryptocurrency
The Gunners say $AFC Fan Tokens will give supporters the chance to influence club decisions during the season
And the Emirates side are set to launch their tokens via an app called Socios.com.
It is a move that sees the Gunners follow in the footsteps of league champs Manchester City who in March revealed plans to launch fan tokens in collaboration with Chiliz.
Gunners officials suggest $AFC Fan Tokens, described as digital assets, will give their owners the chance to influence the club every season via interactive surveys and polls.
It is thought they can also join competitions and discussion forums.
Peter Silverstone, Arsenal’s commercial director said: ‘We are excited to launch this partnership with Socios that will bring our huge global fan base even closer to the club.
“Socios are leading the way in blockchain in the sports industry, as we have seen from their relationships with other leading European clubs.
“When we launch the $AFC Fan Tokens together we will give our hundreds of millions of fans worldwide more opportunities to interact with the club and be a part of our global family.”
Chilliz is thought to be one of the most influential blockchain suppliers for the sports and entertainment sector.
Barcelona and Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain are among the clubs working with the firm.
Portugal and Copa America champions Argentina are among the national teams to have agreed to partnerships.

And LaLiga outfit Valencia are set to become the first football side in the world to plug their $VCF Fan Tokens on their football shirts.
The Gunners’ move into cryptocurrency for fans comes a week after they announced plans for a documentary with Amazon.

The Gunners have insisted that the infections were transmitted away from their London Colney base.
And those who have tested positive are not said to be suffering from any severe symptoms.
A club statement to The Athletic read: “There have been a small number of positive tests at London Colney which has required some U23 and U18 players to quarantine.
“All these positives were transmitted off site and the players are well.”
Mikel Arteta’s first-team squad are said to be unaffected by the outbreak having travelled to Scotland for a pre-season camp earlier this week.
But academy friendlies with Bournemouth’s U21s and Welling have been called off, with games against Boreham Wood and Bromley also in doubt.
The statement continued: “To protect our players and opponents, two friendly matches for the U23s and U18s have been cancelled.
“Our London Colney training ground has undergone extensive work to help ensure there is no cross-contamination between our various football bubbles.

Arsenal transfer boost with Martin Odegaard available for Real Madrid exit after LaLiga demand club slash their wages

LaLiga enforce a salary cap that has come into focus during the coronavirus crisis, with Barcelona at particular risk of exceeding their allocation.
According to The Athletic, a number of stars have been earmarked for a potential sale after Real’s limit dropped by over £140MILLION from its pre-pandemic figure.
First-team players Eden Hazard, Isco, Marcelo, Mariano Diaz, Gareth Bale and Raphael Varane have all been described as up for sale.
Two players potentially joining them are 22-year-old Odegaard and fellow former Arsenal loanee Dani Ceballos.
While Ceballos will decide his future after playing for Spain at the Tokyo Olympics, Odegaard is already in pre-season training.
A ‘significant’ fee would be required for any club to sign either midfielder – and Arsenal are tipped to spend big this summer.
Although, a wide range of targets are on their radar from Brighton’s £50m-rated Ben White to Italy star Manuel Locatelli.
A central midfielder who can play the ball is well known to be a priority although SunSport revealed this week that paying £35m for Wolves’ playmaker Ruben Neves is not the club’s preference.
Instead, Anderlecht’s Albert Sambi Lokonga is set to arrive for a more modest £17m.
Odegaard impressed in a loan spell through the second half of last season and Mikel Arteta confirmed afterwards that Arsenal would hold talks over his future.

The coach said in May: “We need to respect that he’s a Real Madrid player.
“We’ll have those communications. We’ve tried to make everything that we could to get Martin performing for the team, which I think he’s done.
“And he has adapted really well to our way of playing and to our football club.
“Hopefully we have given him the hope and the feeling that this could be a good place for him.”

Harry Maguire says racists who abused England heroes Saka, Sancho & Rashford would NEVER have courage to take a penalty

HARRY MAGUIRE has paid tribute to England’s penalty takers — and admitted he would not have taken one for his country at such a young age.Bukayo Saka, 19, Jadon Sancho, 21, and Marcus Rashford, 23, received sickening racist abuse after their misses against Italy.

And Maguire, 28 insisted the racist cowards would never have the guts to step forward.
Maguire, who scored in the shootout, said: “When I was 19 or 20, I would have been standing there saying ‘I don’t want to take one’.
“There is no chance I would have been putting my hand up at their age.
“So look at the courage and bravery of these young lads, look at the age of Bukayo, Jadon and Marcus.
“The things I have gone through have made me more confident and have given me belief.
“I am able to handle those situations better, now I am happy to take one and I executed it well.
“These people who are being abusive would not be able to handle the pressure.
“It is the highest amount of pressure you will feel, so to do it at their age and to show such bravery should be applauded.

“I spoke with the three lads afterwards. I have checked up with them and seen how they are but they are courageous lads.
“They should be applauded rather than criticised.
“I took a penalty in a play-off final shootout for Sheffield United when I was 19 but doing it for England is completely different.”
Maguire has been sent videos of his penalty smashing a camera in the shootout.

But the Manchester United captain is furious with the nasty side of social media.
He added: “It does not surprise me. For the three lads who have given everything for the country and been so brave to get this is terrible.”
England and Manchester City midfielder Phil Foden tweeted: “We’re all hurting right now but the racist abuse sent to some of my team-mates after the bravery they showed on Sunday night is disgusting and has no place in the game.”
Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin added: “To the real England fans, thank you for your support this summer and to those of you abusing my team-mates for having the courage to step up and take a penalty shame on you, we don’t need people like you on social media or in society.”
