Arsenal star Aaron Ramsdale reveals touching reason why he brought his granddad’s ashes with him to transfer unveiling

AARON RAMSDALE has revealed the touching reason why he brought his late granddad’s ashes with him after signing for Arsenal. The goalkeeper finally completed his £30million dream move to the Emirates and was recently unveiled as a Gunners player.

And as he posed for pictures with an Arsenal shirt, he did so with his grandfather’s ashes beside him.
Ramsdale, 23, said: “The day my mum found out she was pregnant with me was the day he died.
“He was called Ron and was from Bloxwich in Birmingham and they used to say, ‘Oh, we’re going to see our Ron’.
“So I’m Aaron for ‘our Ron’. When his ashes were spread my dad kept some of his ashes.
“He’s gone on a little tour of the 92 [teams in the Football League]!
“My dad brings him all to the games and will have a picture with him in the stadiums.
“I did say in the car this morning that he wasn’t coming out but it was a nice touch… he would have been a footballer if his dad had allowed him and he was a goalkeeper so there are little connections between us both.
“My dad takes him everywhere. It keeps him close to his heart.”
Ramsdale has been linked with a move to the Emirates all summer, where he will provide competition to German Bernd Leno, 29.

But Sheffield United refused to budge on their price tag, leaving the England keeper’s future up in the air until Arsenal paid the £30m.
Ramsdale said: “It’s been difficult. It’s never easy when you are trying to focus on playing your football with speculation in the background, it’s difficult. Now, I am here and everything is sorted.
“It’s been a long few days, but it’s finally over the line and now I can get onto the training pitch and crack on and hopefully do what I do best.”

Arsenal likely to be without Aubameyang and Lacazette for Chelsea clash and set to keep pair after Abraham’s Roma move

Aubameyang, 32, and Lacazette, 30, were both sidelined in Arsenal’s opening day 2-0 defeat away to Premier League newcomers Brentford.
They were both ill, and according to The Times, they might not recover in time to return to training for Chelsea’s visit.
It is also claimed Arsenal were open to selling the duo, despite captain Aubameyang only signing a three-year deal, worth a reported £350,000-a-week, last year.
But Frenchman Lacazette is now in the final year of his Emirates deal, and able to negotiate a free transfer away in January.
Arsenal had registered an interest in Abraham, 23, who Chelsea allowed to leave after re-signing Romelu Lukaku, 28, for £97.5million.
But the England striker has instead moved closer to a £34m switch to Roma, who are managed by former Blues boss Jose Mourinho.

As a result, it leaves Arsenal unlikely to sell Aubameyang and Lacazette with no replacements being identified.
They were linked with a move for Inter Milan’s Lautaro Martinez, 23, who is now expected to stay in Italy after Lukaku’s departure.
Eddie Nketiah, 22, is also out with an ankle knock until next month meaning Arteta turned to Folarin Balogun, 20, against Brentford.
But the ex-Gunners youth star failed to make an impact. Gabriel Martinelli, 20, is another option who could be moved from out wide to a central role.

Sergi Canos and Christian Norgaard struck either side of half-time to record a famous victory for Thomas Frank’s side.
And ex-Manchester United defender Neville let rip at Arsenal and their transfer policy.
Neville told Sky Sports: “I don’t know what the plan is at Arsenal.
“The recruitment has been really poor. They are just poor at it compared to other clubs.
“I don’t get the strategy and l don’t get the direction.
“I think they have a really talented manager but even if he gets the best out of them, l don’t think they can make the top four.”

Arsenal spent £50million on Ben White, £7m on Nuno Tavares and £17m on Albert Sambi Lokonga this summer.
And the club are still chasing a new No10 with Martin Odegaard, Houssem Aouar and James Maddison linked.
But despite a full pre-season and new defenders in the squad, the same frailties were on display for all to see in their own box – especially with the second goal as no one dealt with a long throw launched in.
Neville added: “They’ve been messed around.
“A game of football is really difficult if your centre-backs are getting messed around by the opposition forwards and that’s happened from minute one tonight.
“There’s nothing worse than thinking your team are a little bit soft.
“Brentford have looked at them and thought, ‘Yeah, we’ll have you’, and that’s the worst feeling.
“Arsenal fans will go away from here tonight thinking, ‘We’ve been bullied’.”
Neville’s Sky colleague Jamie Carragher was also scathing in his assessment, describing the contest as ‘men against boys’.
I apologise for the result and we know that we have to improveMikel Arteta
Carra moaned: “If you’re playing Arsenal, get it in the box.
“How do you describe Arsenal’s defending here? It’s just Arsenal. Weak. Bullied. Men against boys – again.
“New season, same old story. They don’t win the first one [header], let it bounce.
“Two Brentford players [say] ‘get out of the way’… goalkeeper can’t do nothing. Mari, Ben White, Calum Chambers – nowhere to be seen.”
Things don’t get much easier for Arsenal.
In their next two Premier League fixtures, they host European champions Chelsea and then travel to the Etihad to face Manchester City.
Afterwards, Mikel Arteta apologised to the travelling fans for the defeat.
He told reporters: “First of all, thank you because of the support that they are giving to the team, the travelling fans that were here.
“And after that, I apologise for the result and we know that we have to improve.
“We have two big games coming up right now and we need to a different performance to get a different result.

    “It’s a very disappointing night.
“We created a lot of situations but not enough threat or shots on target to win a football match.
“When you concede a goal on a long throw, it then becomes a big task. Congratulations to Brentford.”
