England U21s faced Kosovo on Tuesday night and the Arsenal star missed the game after feeling unwell.
Manager Lee Carsley confirmed Smith Rowe’s return home which leaves a question mark over his participation on the weekend.
Carsley told Sky Sports: “[Smith Rowe] was just feeling unwell so we decided to send him back to Arsenal.
“He didn’t feel 100 per cent so the best thing to do for Emile was to send him back.”
Goals from Rhian Brewster and Cole Palmer earned the win for the U21s, who had also lost Ryan Sessegnon and Harvey Elliott to knocks before the game.
The camp was rocked by two positive tests for Covid-19 last week, forcing the cancellation of a friendly against Romania.

Arsenal welcome Norwich to the Emirates Stadium for a 3pm kick-off on Saturday with both sides yet to register a point in the Premier League.
Mikel Arteta had been hoping to receive an injury boost with a quartet of players back in training.
Thomas Partey, Gabriel Magalhaes and Eddie Nketiah could all return.

After suffering from coronavirus, defender Gabriel was back on the pitch in an Under-23s clash with Tottenham late last month.
Ben White may be fit after also testing positive, following an outbreak in the squad which affected Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Alexandre Lacazette and more.
Granit Xhaka is suspended while Mohamed Elneny is hoping to shake off a muscle injury, and Nicolas Pepe should be back after missing the defeat to Manchester City through illness.

According to Sky Sports, the Gunners have rebuffed an approach from Galatasaray over the midfielder.
Elneny, 29, is out of contract at the end of the season but has spoken of his desire to sign a new deal.
Mikel Arteta reportedly sees the player as a key member of his squad, having named him on the bench in each of Arsenal’s three Premier League games so far.
A loan spell at Besiktas two seasons ago led to Egypt international Elneny finding form in Istanbul.
It was presumed at the time that he would leave the Premier League but manager Arteta reintroduced him to the Arsenal setup.
Reports in Turkey had already outlined interest from both Galatasaray and Besiktas in sealing a deal before their deadline.

But it had been claimed that Elneny’s wage demands were the principle stumbling block.
Galatasaray club president Burak Elmas was said to have been personally against the move.
And Arsenal, whose net spend was the highest in the Premier League this summer, also appear to be against the transfer despite being in the midst of a big squad rebuild.

The Ivorian defender’s next step remains to be seen but an incredible switch to his old team’s bitter rivals is said to be of interest.
Sky Sports claim the right-back has informed Arsenal of his interest as he looks to find a new club in England.
Mikel Arteta is nonetheless already well-stocked for the position having signed Takehiro Tomiyasu on deadline day.
The £20million Japan international will compete with Calum Chambers, Cedric Soares and Ainsley Maitland-Niles for a spot in the team.
Hector Bellerin left for Real Betis on loan having also been put up for sale by his club.
Aurier was speculatively linked with Real Madrid and AC Milan early in the summer window, after speaking publicly of his hope to move.

The 28-year-old said on leaving: “I have really enjoyed my time at Spurs and would like to thank the club and the fans, but I feel now is the right time for me to move onto a new challenge.”

The tournament was a big success with £228,064 raised for Mind, as well as the three clubs’ own charitable foundations.
Players also took part in mental health awareness sessions to help engage fans in supporting those around them.
Eric Dier, Christian Pulisic and Rob Holding spoke on a video call with young supporters who use Mind’s services.
Paul Farmer, Chief executive of Mind, said: “We have been overwhelmed by the level of support shown by the fans, players and staff alike over the course of The Mind Series.
“We know how powerful a platform football can be to create change and having the backing of Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur to help us put a spotlight on mental health has been invaluable.
“Alongside the awareness raised, the Series has also surpassed all our expectations in the amount of funds it has raised for our vital local and national services.

“At a national level, funds raised will help support our Infoline and other advice services which have been inundated with enquiries since the pandemic began.”
On the pitch, there were also heartwarming scenes as Spurs fans showed their support for Bukayo Saka following the Arsenal and England star’s Euro 2020 heartbreak and subsequent abuse online.
The Gunners fell to defeat in both matches, losing to Chelsea thanks to a late Tammy Abraham goal before Son-Heung min struck Tottenham’s winner in the North London derby friendly.
Spurs then came from behind to snatch a 2-2 draw at Stamford Bridge.

How Arsenal could line-up at West Brom with Aaron Ramsdale set to make debut and Martin Odegaard making his return to XI

ARSENAL manager Mikel Arteta is preparing to field a strong starting 11 against West Brom in the Carabao Cup. With two losses in as many matches in their start to the season, pressure is already mounting on the Spaniard.

According to The Times, Arteta will take no chances in his selection when the Gunners travel to Championship West Brom.
It is claimed the Emirates hierarchy have shown understanding towards their boss, who has seen five of his players sidelined with coronavirus.
Among them were forwards Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre Emerick Aubameyang, who did come off the bench in the 2-0 loss to Chelsea.
Lacazette will now be back in contention to play in the cup tie, and so too will the returning Martin Odegaard, who arrived in January on loan.
And he has recently made his move from Real Madrid permanent for £30million but missing paperwork saw him ruled out against Chelsea.
Arsenal also announced the signing of £30m keeper Aaron Ramsdale, and the England international could be set to make his debut.

Arteta has rotated his keepers between cup and league matches and is expected to do the same with Ramsdale and current No1 Bernd Leno.
Kieran Tierney could keep his place at left-back but Sead Kolasinac or Nuno Tavares would be the likely replacements if the Scot is rested.
Hector Bellerin looks set to leave the club this month, with Cedric Soares covering at right-back for now.
But Calum Chambers – traditionally a centre-half – is another option in that position.
In the middle of the back four, new arrival Ben White was ruled out against Chelsea after testing positive for Covid-19.
Pablo Mari, largely dominated by Romelu Lukaku at the Emirates and Rob Holding were the pair over the weekend.

With White likely out, the two could keep their place against West Brom, but Chambers is also available to move back into a central role.
In midfield, Thomas Partey is still sidelined with an ankle injury, with Granit Xhaka and new boy Albert Sambi Lokonga the preferred current pair.
But Mohamed Elneny and Ainsley Maitland-Niles are further options for the cup game in midfield.
Going forward, Lacazette could be afforded minutes through the middle, leaving Odegaard playing just in front of him.
Nicolas Pepe, Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli, Reiss Nelson and even Aubameyang provide depth in the wide positions.
Arteta is expected to mix his starting 11 between rotational squad members and first-team stars in the hope of getting Arsenal their first win of the season.
