      BBC legend joins Amazon Prime’s Premier League coverage as he returns to footy just months after Alex Scott spat

      FORMER Football Focus host Dan Walker has been confirmed as a host of Amazon Prime’s December coverage of the Premier League.The streaming service hold the rights to 20 top flight games during the festive period.

      They kick off on December 6 with the likes of Sheffield United vs Liverpool, Aston Villa vs Manchester City and Manchester United vs Chelsea.
      Former Sky Sports presenter Jeff Stelling has also been confirmed as the host of their new programme “Every Game Every Goal” – which will allow viewers to see “all the goals and key moments from every game as soon as they go in”.
      Meanwhile, Walker, 46, will broadcast live from Premier League grounds as he leads Amazon’s coverage of various matches.
      The BBC legend has been confirmed for Wolves vs Burnley, Spurs vs West Ham and Burnley vs Liverpool.

      Among the pundits that will join the former BBC Breakfast man are Thierry Henry, Alan Shearer, Patrice Evra, Michael Owen, Eni Aluko, Roberto Martinez, Jermain Defoe and Stuart Pearce.
      Walker’s arrival on the platform comes just two months after a public spat with former Arsenal and England defender Alex Scott.
      Scott, 39, replaced Walker as the new host of Football Focus in 2021.
      In September, Walker responded to reports of the show’s viewership declining by more than a third since Scott took over.

      In a tweet, he said he found it “hard” to watch the show “struggling”.
      Scott replied with a meme that simply read: “Interesting”.
      Walker, who spent 12 years hosting Football Focus, then added: “I’m not saying you haven’t Alex.
      “It’s a saturated market and it’s hard work every week. I hope you have a good show today.”
      Later in the day, Scott posted saying “viewing figures double that of anything on TV at that time yesterday”.
      The broadcasters then reportedly came together for a “lively exchange” at The Legends of Football dinner at the Grosvenor Hotel in London.
      It is believed Walker approached Scott to apologise, before they hashed things out for “several minutes”.
      The discussion ended on a positive note as they parted ways with a hug.

      Pep Guardiola’s side are currently top of the table, one point ahead of Jurgen Klopp’s mob, and most of the the recent meetings between these two enterprising sides have been thrilling affairs.
      The treble-winners won this same fixture 4-1 last season but fans of both sides would probably agree the Reds are more functional this this campaign.
      Saying that, City average a shade under two and a half goals per league game against Liverpool at home since the start of 2020.
      The hosts have kept a clean sheet in just one of their last six league games and they shipped four to Chelsea last time out so the likes of Mohamed Salah, Darwin Nunez and Luis Diaz will feel confident of some success in the final third.
      Let’s try manifest a brilliant game to celebrate the end of the international break.

      Newcastle v Chelsea
      Were it not for the clash at the Etihad, this could easily have been the standout fixture of the weekend.
      St James’ Park is a difficult place to go but the Magpies felt the impact of their injury list away to Bournemouth in their most recent encounter, a 2-0 defeat on the south coast saw them drop to seventh.
      Mauricio Pochettino’s men will have taken much heart from their games against Spurs and City – four points from those two match-ups represents something of a turning point.
      There’s nothing between these two in the form guide with both clubs having won two, drawn two and lost one in their last five.
      Injury updates from Eddie Howe’s press conference may change the outlook but for now…

      Brentford v Arsenal
      The Gunners have scored seven more goals than the Bees this season but the underlying numbers suggest the two attacking units are closer than some would expect.
      Thomas Frank’s side have actually generated more expected goals (xG) than Arsenal, meaning they’re marginally ahead from a creative perspective but notably less clinical when it comes to putting the ball in the net.
      There’s a big difference in defence though as Mikel Arteta’s side are statistically the best the top flight has to offer right now, having conceded ten goals from 9.2 expected goals allowed.
      Brentford’s slightly inefficient attack against the league’s tightness defence should favour the visitors but we still fancy the hosts to give their fans something to celebrate.
      All that being said, Arsenal are one point off top spot while Brentford are in the bottom half so we’re inclined to back Bukayo Saka and company to get the job done on the road.

      Tottenham v Aston Villa
      Another fascinating match-up on paper.
      Only City have scored more goals than the Villains this season but Unai Emery’s men are nowhere near as potent away from home.
      Ange Postecoglou’s side are equally dynamic in attack at full capacity but, like Newcastle, they’re hindered by a host of absentees with James Maddison and Micky van de Ven being major losses.
      Spurs’ injuries and Villa’s away record suggest both sides may be short of their best on Sunday but this game still has all the makings of another end-to-end thriller.
      The prospect of Ollie Watkins and Moussa Diaby against a high defensive line is an enticing one but we could just as easily see Son Heung-min running in behind Ezri Konsa and Pau Torres.

      Everton v Manchester United
      The Toffees’ recent points deduction should give this clash a unique atmosphere.
      Sean Dyche will hope to make use of a siege mentality at Goodison Park to extend his side’s improved form – they’ve lost just one of their last six games in all competitions.
      Dominic Calvert-Lewin has rediscovered something close to his most effective form, backed by an energetic midfield that is capable of upsetting teams prone to capitulations, which has to include this current version of the Red Devils.
      Erik ten Hag’s have actually won four of their last five league games but unconvincing performances against Luton, Fulham and Sheffield United failed to inspire much confidence.
      Recent blow-ups against Copenhagen, Man City, a second-string Newcastle (Carabao Cup) and Galatasaray have put the Dutch tactician under pressure.
      The combination of a highly-motivated Everton at home to a United side with a vulnerable underbelly leads us to a semi-bold prediction.

      England v Malta – Friday November 17
      This one should be a formality and the tricky part is surely guessing how many England will score.
      The reverse fixture was a 4-0 win over in Malta, helping England to 19 goals in just the six games played in this qualification group.
      The seven goals scored against North Macedonia helped with that, and pointless Malta aren’t as much of a test.
      Superstar Jude Bellingham misses out but there’s now a huge competition for places, so even a change in team shouldn’t prevent goals going in.

      Netherlands v Ireland – Saturday November 18
      Netherlands are in a battle for second spot with Greece as the pair sit on the same points.
      Greece have played a game more, though, so a win here should just about wrap that up for the Dutch.
      They’ve only won two of their last six internationals at home which isn’t great form – particularly with the wins coming against Greece and Gibraltar.
      But the Irish are just desperate for qualification to be over, picking up just six points from their six games.
      Reverse game was narrow 2-1 Dutch win, this could be more.
      Our prediction: Netherland 3 Ireland 0
      Armenia v Wales – Saturday November 18
      Armenia have lost their last three games – with Wales winning their last three.
      Armenia picked up a shock 4-2 win when the sides last met earlier in the group and the Welsh must surely be out for revenge.
      Wales sit in second in the group – joint on 10 points with Croatia – and need a win here to maintain that.
      Armenia still have it all to play for too just three points behind, but could fall short here.
      Our prediction: Armenia 1 Wales 2
      Scotland v Norway – Sunday November 19
      This game will be party time for Scotland and their supporters, with the first home game since clinching qualification.
      Might still have top spot to fight for depending on results earlier in the week and a win might well be needed.
      Norway have nothing to play for and the raucous Hampden support will help Steve Clarke’s fringe players push on again.
      Our prediction: Scotland 2 Norway 0

      North Macedonia v England – Monday November 20
      Again, could be a matter of how many, team dependant.
      A good result in Malta game might see Southgate make one or two changes but squad deep enough to win this one quite comfortably.
      The hosts will want to avenge the 7-0 from earlier in the group and will not want lightning striking twice.

      That’s despite sensational stints at Borussia Dortmund and St. Etienne who are both known for their excellent atmospheres.
      The forward also captained Arsenal during his time in North London.
      In the interview with Amazon, the striker said: “I think I had the best six months of my career [at Barcelona]. I have never enjoyed playing football and going to training so much.

      Arsenal fans will know that this is a pretty big deal for Aubameyang, given that he was stripped of his captaincy by Mikel Arteta due to his consistent lateness to training.
      It was revealed in Arsenal’s All or Nothing documentary that Arteta had to fight to convince sporting director Edu to tear up the Gabon international’s contract due to his lax attitude.
      In the doc, Arteta said: “I have everything documented, with the dates, the times, the conversations, how it happened, why it happened . . . because of if one day it’s needed.

      SKY SPORTS and TNT Sports face competition from a rival bidder for Premier League coverage. The broadcasting duo have had the majority share of Premier League games for a sustained period, but according to the Telegraph that could be about to change.

      Amazon are reportedly exploring the idea of taking up a larger chunk of the televised games that are available to broadcasters.
      Prime Video already show 20 games a season, but they are expected to bid for match packages that would give them the rights to broadcast a far higher number of fixtures.
      The smaller packages available to bidding broadcasters range between 42 and 65 fixtures which would be a huge step up from what Amazon already has the rights to.
      It could also see them televise more games than TNT Sports (formerly BT Sport) with the longstanding channel currently holding the rights to 52 games per season.

      However it is said that TNT and Sky Sports still remain favourites to retain the lion share of fixtures for future seasons.
      Amazon may not be the only streaming service that bid for the Premier League broadcasting rights either.
      With popular online service DAZN also expected to look at trying to acquire one of the cheaper packages available.
      The next round of packages would last for three years and any successful bids would mean rights were purchased for that prolonged period.

      That is according to the Daily Mail, who state that “clubs are braced for a rearranged festive fixture list that could see Christmas Day left as the only one without a televised game”.
      Premier League execs are currently making their amendments to the match schedule for the back end of December and January.
      They have already announced their TV picks and alterations for the first round of games for December.
      And now they hope to confirm the Festive fixtures and their new timings early this week.

      This fresh update states that “scheduling a first Premier League game on Christmas Eve since 1995 has been on the agenda” for bosses.
      Wolves’ home clash with Chelsea is the favourite for the controversial TV spot but that has received fierce backlash since speculation emerged last week.
      Top-flight teams are aware that further changes have been discussed and that they would enable supporters to watch at least one match per day – except for December 25.
      However, there are a number of factors to be considered before any official announcement such as travel issues, policing and broadcasters.

      PREMIER LEAGUE matches could soon be shown on a new channel as the auctions for live rights looks set to hot up.Top-flight chiefs are allegedly looking at offering an “expanded fifth package of games” to broadcasters.

      They will include “several complete midweek rounds” plus Sunday clashes involving teams featuring in the Europa League.
      And the Daily Mail claims that streaming service DAZN “are expected to target the Premier League matches currently owned by Amazon Prime” in the bidding process.
      Amazon pay around £90m for 60 live matches in three seasons over the festive period currently.
      But it emerged in the summer that all Sunday games will be screened for the very first time for the start of the 2025/26 campaign which has led “to greater interest from broadcasters”.

      This new update says that “Amazon were effectively given their first set of live rights at a discount by the Premier League six years ago in order to draw them into the market”.
       They also got fortunate when the 2019 to 2022 domestic TV deal was extended on the same terms due to the Covid-19 pandemic, allowing them to keep screening games on the cheaper rate.
      Now the Premier League are “looking for a significant increase from the current £5billion three-year domestic deal” in the next rights auction due to the number of matches available increasing to 270 from 2000.
      The cheapest package available is set to be for around £300m-a-year – which has allegedly led to doubts over whether Amazon will want to fork out that much.

      But DAZN “are understood to view the expanded Amazon pack as more attainable than the primetime Saturday and Sunday packages” – with Sky Sports and TNT Sports set to retain them.
      Ukrainian-born British businessman Len Blavatnik launched DAZN in 2016.
      They have grown massively over recent years and expanded into a number of sports.

      Now this report claims that they “are ready to make a serious bid for the Premier League’s UK rights” for the very first time.

      Sky Sports, TNT Sports and Amazon Prime hold talks over shock new Premier League documentary

      THE Premier League’s main UK broadcasters have held talks over a new documentary on the lives of top-flight referees.A fresh report has claimed that an “independent production company are understood to have pitched the programme” to the three domestic rights holders.

      And Sky Sports, TNT Sports and Amazon Prime have already discussed the prospect, says the Daily Mail.
      However, they also add that the Professional Game Match Officials Limited [PGMOL] are yet to sign it off.
      Ex-Premier League referee Howard Webb was appointed as the PGMOL’s first chief refereeing officer last year.
      And he has attempted to make the body more open and “may be receptive to the idea” of the doc.

      Webb recently linked up with Michael Owen in the newly launched Match Officials Mic’d Up programme, explaining controversial VAR and refereeing decisions using audio from in-game conversations between officials.
      The premise of the documentary pitch is believed to be “an attempt to humanise referees”.
      It is also hoping to give football fans a better understanding of how officials carry out their duties and the pressures they face.
      The would-be producers want to film referee training sessions as well as pre and post-game meetings.

      But the Premier League would also need to give their approval as producer want to use unseen footage from games.
      The Mail says that a source close to the referees said: “It’s a great idea.
      “It would show a different side to them. How hard it is. The pressure they’re under.
      “To officiate a Premier League is not easy. One error and you’re vilified. So something such as this might help people see a different side to officials.” More
