UFC legend Conor McGregor’s most controversial moments from Khabib bus attack to Dublin pub assault and ‘f*** you’ suit

CONOR McGREGOR has produced some of the most notorious moments in the UFC cage.
But he has made as many headlines for his controversial behaviour outside of it.

    13

From pub brawls to bus attacks, the 32-year-old Irishman has provided plenty of talking points.
With McGregor yet to reverse his third retirement in four years, SunSport looks at his most infamous moments.
    NAZI JIBE
McGregor defeated Russian-born German Dennis Siver in January 2015, earning him a shot at the featherweight title.
But in the pre-fight build up, McGregor tweeted, “Kiss them feet Nazi”.

In his apology he wrote, “Ich bin ein sowwy. Now about them feet…”

    ALDO THREAT
Before McGregor KO’d Jose Aldo in 13 seconds, he said: “If this was a different time, I would invade his favela on horseback, and would kill anyone who wasn’t fit to work. But we’re in a new time, so I’ll whoop his ass instead.”
The Irishman also claimed he would wanted to “turn his favela into a Reebok sweatshop”.
Aldo was born from poverty in Manaus and fought his way to a better life through martial arts.

    13

McGregor traded words with Jose Aldo before their fight
    CHOLO JIBE
When Nate Diaz filled in on late notice to face McGregor at UFC 196 in March 2016, the UFC hastily put together a press conference.
There Diaz was called “a little cholo” by his newly found rival.
‘Cholo’ is a racially-charged pejorative term meaning a Mexican of low-class or criminal background.

    13

McGregor and Diaz go at it at a presser before their first fight
    UFC 200 NO-SHOW
After Diaz beat McGregor, their rematch was pencilled in for UFC 200 – but again controversy marred the pre-fight presser.
The Notorious refused to come to the media event as he wanted to remain in Iceland to train and was also affected by the death of Joao Carvalho, who passed away following a bout with McGregor’s team-mate Charlie Ward.
For failure to show up to the press conference, he was axed from the event all together.

    13

McGregor failed to show up to the UFC 200 press conference
    BOTTLE FIGHT
McGregor and Diaz would get the date for their rematch, but they still couldn’t behave at the presser.
The pair began lobbing bottles at each other, with McGregor then throwing cans of UFC’s sponsored Monster Energy cans.
McGregor was initially fined £120,000, only for it to be halved, while he also had to serve 50 hours of community service.

    13

McGregor throwing a bottle at Diaz before their rematch
    RACISM ACCUSATIONS
Before McGregor made his professional boxing debut against Floyd Mayweather in August 2017, he found himself in hot water for remarks made in the build up.
He shouted at Mayweather, “dance for me, boy” before saying he was “half-black from the belly button down”.
McGregor denied racism, but did say: “If anyone was offended, of course I apologise. I am human at the end of the day.”

    13

McGregor denied racism before his boxing debut against Floyd Mayweather
    F*** YOU SUIT
In the opening press conference between McGregor and Mayweather, the then-UFC champion wore a pinstripe suit tailored by David August Heil.
But on closer inspection the stripes were made up of ‘f*** you’ remarks.
Explaining the design, Heil said: “The idea originated internally. The expression was the perfect juxtaposition to the traditional pinstripe suit. I wanted to use fighting words.”

    13

McGregor’s famous ‘f*** you’ suit worn before boxing Mayweather
    HOMOPHIBIC SLUR
After McGregor’s team-mate and close friend Artem Lobov was defeated in October, 2017 he called opponent Andre Fili a “f****t” for his tactics.
The Irishman – who has campaigned for same-sex marriage before – later held his hands up and issued an apology, admitting his mistake.
He said: “I’m human; I slip up, I say stupid things every damn day. All I can (do) is hold my hand up and apologise if anyone was offended.”

    13

    REF ATTACK
A month after McGregor was captured using homophobic slurs, he was again caught up in controversy following a friend’s fight.
After Ward won at Bellator 187, The Notorious jumped into the cage in celebration but was confronted by referee Mark Goddard.
McGregor then went at Goddard and while being held back appeared to spew verbals at the Brit official.

    BUS ATTACK
In his most infamous incident, McGregor travelled 3,000 miles from Dublin to New York in April 2018 to confront rival Khabib Nurmagomedov, who was filmed in a dispute with Lobov earlier that week.
The Irishman, accompanied with friends, then attacked the bus with Khabib inside, smashing windows and causing six fights to be cancelled through injuries.
Dana White called it the “most disgusting thing” in UFC’s history.

    13

    POST-FIGHT BRAWL
McGregor would get his chance to settle the score with Nurmagomedov at UFC 229 in October 2018.
But after winning by submission in four rounds, Khabib hopped the cage and began brawling with McGregor’s team – while the Irishman did the same in the cage.
McGregor was banned for six months and handed a £60,000 but boasted about landing the final punch of the night – on Nurmagomedov’s cousin.

    SMASHING FAN’S PHONE
The Notorious was out of the Octagon throughout 2019 – but was making noise for all the wrong reasons.
In March he was captured smashing a fans phone on the floor in Miami and later arrested.
But he settled a civil lawsuit with the victim out of court.

It led to several fans in Ireland turning their back on the former two-division champion and some pub refusing to sell his whiskey.

Tyson Fury carries wife Paris in pool in Marbella as pair relax on holiday after Anthony Joshua meeting

TYSON FURY is clearly having “good times” on holiday as he carried wife Paris around in a swimming pool.
The Gypsy King, who bumped into Brit rival Anthony Joshua out in Spain last week, is having a well-deserved break after a momentous year.

    3

Despite the coronavirus seeing boxing suspended, Fury squeezed in becoming new WBC heavyweight champions of the world in February.
He battered previously unbeaten Deontay Wilder all around the Las Vegas ring before the fight was stopped in the seventh round.
The two are set for a rematch, but that might not even happen this year with Wilder having surgery on his bicep.
So Fury has decided to spend some of the summer in sunny Marbella.

The 31-year-old uploaded a snap of him carrying wife Paris in the pool, captioning it “good times”.
And he also shared a photo of the two of them out having a bite to eat – with Fury’s colourful shirt grabbing the attention.
But it isn’t all rest and relaxation out there – Fury uploaded a video of him starting a 10km run this morning.
SunSport reported last week on the moment Fury came face-to-face with Brit rival and WBA, WBO, IBF and IBO heavyweight champ Joshua.

The British boxers are set to go toe-to-toe in a mammoth heavyweight unification clash next year.
And they came face-to-face in sunny Marbella on Saturday, with Fury jetting out after his son Prince Tyson Fury II’s dinosaur-themed fourth birthday party.
With both Fury, 31, and AJ, 30, currently on holiday in the south of Spain, it was always possible they’d bump into each other.

Floyd Mayweather, 43, lined up to fight ex-world champion Takashi Uchiyama who boasts devastating one-punch KO power

FLOYD MAYWEATHER is being lined up to face former super-featherweight world champion Takashi Uchiyama.
Mayweather has intentions to return to Japan, the scene he made £7million for beating kickboxer Tenshin Nasukawa in a 2018 exhibition bout.

And according to eFight, MMA promotion RIZIN are working to bring the 43-year-old back to the Far East, with ex-WBA champion Uchiyama their targeted opponent.
The 40-year-old retired in 2016, a year before Mayweather, after losing consecutive fights to Jezreel Corrales, but was famed for his power with 20 KO’s in 24 wins.
We revealed Mayweather was in talks with RIZIN to make a comeback, but was unable to travel amid the coronavirus pandemic – even on his private jet.
Promoter Nobuyuki Sakakibara later confirmed he expects the American to again lace up the gloves – but stressed the hurdles they face to finalise a deal.

Sakakibara told Japanese press: “Mayweather vs Takashi Uchiyama is the most exciting.
“There are various problems such as immigration, opponents, money, etc.
“But communication with the person is progressing positively. I expect the possibility.”

“We are still in talks, but when the time is right, both parties are willing to make things happen. It just needs to make sense for both parties.
RIZIN confirm talks of Mayweather comeback

Mayweather officially retired in 2017 after beating UFC star Conor McGregor in ten rounds.

And after his brief cameo a year later, the five-division champion expressed his desire on several occasions to compete in more money-spinning exhibitions.
SunSport can confirm talks are still ongoing between Mayweather and RIZIN which would see the former pound-for-pound king come out of retirement.
The promotion said: “Floyd Mayweather and his team liked the setup, atmosphere, the crowd and overall had a good time in their last time in RIZIN,  and are very eager to be coming back and fighting in Japan once again.

    5

“We are still in talks, but when the time is right, both parties are willing to make things happen. It just needs to make sense for both parties.
“As a promotion and a business, both parties have to benefit from the event.
“As long as that relationship can be established, we are,  and have been willing to work with anybody.”
But due to the Japanese Boxing Commissions strict rules on overseeing all bouts, RIZIN face a fight to get the green light for another Mayweather return.
To get around the situation, the unbeaten legend could again be forced to compete in an exhibition bout.
RIZIN confirmed they will return with back-to-back shows on August 9 and then the following day.
Officials are hoping to have a reduced crowd filling 50 per cent of the 10,000 capacity Pia Arena MM in Yokohama.

Joshua vs Fury predictions: Boxing legends including Mike Tyson, Floyd Mayweather and Bernard Hopkins on who wins fight

THE undisputed title decider between Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury has divided opinions across the UK and the world.
Britain’s two heavyweight rulers have verbally agreed to a double header of fights next year.

    7

The undisputed title decider between Joshua and Fury has divided opinions
Even though they both have further mandatory defences lined up, the pair are desperate to unify the division once and for all.
And the split verdicts on who will emerge with all four of the world titles has only added to the pre-fight debate
Here SunSport runs down some of the most heavyweight of predictions as stars choose their winner.
    MIKE TYSON
Iron Mike has backed his namesake – who also claimed he accepted an offer to fight the 54-year-old ahead of his own comeback.

Tyson said: “He is the best heavyweight champion of the world since myself. He is the man, I don’t care what anybody says.”
The Baddest Man on the Planet also left AJ off his list of his top five current boxers.
    Prediction: Fury

    7

Mike Tyson has backed namesake Tyson Fury to defeat JoshuaCredit: Instagram
    FLOYD MAYWEATHER
Mayweather was credited for bringing the money to the smaller division – and it appears he still has little affection for the heavyweights.

He said: “We talking about Anthony Joshua, hell of a fighter. Tyson Fury, hell of a fighter.
“It doesn’t matter who wins, if I’m not getting paid that’s none of my business.”
    Prediction: Couldn’t care less

    7

Floyd Mayweather admitted he does not care who wins between Fury or Joshua
    GEORGE FOREMAN
The former two-time world heavyweight champion sees no way in which AJ can prevail.
He said: “That boy Tyson Fury, you’re going to have to bring everything you’ve got to beat him.
“I’m going to be honest with you – I just can’t see Joshua beating him.”
    Prediction: Fury

    ROY JONES JR
The American four-division great – who amazingly won the heavyweight belt in 2003 – sat on the fence but did appear to suggest Fury is favourite.
Jones said: “I’m not saying Fury is as good as Ali skill-wise but he has a mind like Ali. With a mind like that, he can be anybody.
“I think it was at a local show I saw him at and I said to him: ‘If you just give yourself to boxing for five years, you’ll be amazed and you’ll beat all these guys.’
“I love him to death. I’m so happy for him and proud of him that he was able to do it.
“I see him as the No1 and I think him against Joshua is a good fight.”
    Prediction: Fury… just about.

    7

Roy Jones Jr believes Fury is the No1 heavyweight in the world
    TONY BELLEW
Only one winner for the Bomber.
He said: “The top three heavyweights today, if you’re going on what they’re actually doing, you can’t really knock Tyson Fury for what he’s doing since he’s come back. I understand why people have him No1.
“I have to put Fury No 1, but I still think AJ beats him. Styles make fights, and I think AJ’s style is all wrong for Fury.”
    Prediction: Joshua

    7

Tony Bellew has backed pal Joshua to defeat Fury
    BERNARD HOPKINS
Following lessons learned from AJ’s loss to Andy Ruiz Jr, Hopkins has not only backed him to win – but to knock out Fury and “make a serious statement”.
He said: “He redeemed himself. Now that is in his memory – what not to do ever again – Joshua beats Fury by knockout late.
“It will be an interesting, exciting five or six rounds at the beginning. Then Joshua’s athleticism, boxing IQ and experience would overwhelm Fury.
“Joshua would come out of a dust-storm based on his experience.
“At this point he has to make a really serious statement based on [the Ruiz defeat]. Redemption.”

    WLADIMIR KLITSCHKO
Klitschko, who lost to both men, spoke earlier this year about his prediction.
He said: “Joshua is a superior athlete, great fighter, Olympic champion.
“Most importantly, he’s a great guy, who carries the torch of this image of a heavyweight champion perfectly. I’m proud to call him as a friend, even though we were [rivals].
“And I think and I wish that eventually Joshua is going to unify all of the belts. That’s the eventual plan.”
    Prediction: Joshua

The legendary trainer admits it’s too early to make a sure-fire prediction but tipped Fury to win at this point in time.
He said: “If you do the easy pick for 90 per cent of the people you ask, you’d probably pick Fury.
“If a gun was put to my head, right now, I’d go the easy way. I’d go with Fury. But you know what? I would wait a bit of this.
“I could see an argument for both scenarios.”

    TEDDY ATALS
The legendary trainer admits it’s too early to make a sure-fire prediction but tipped Fury to win at this point in time.
He said: “If you do the easy pick for 90 per cent of the people you ask, you’d probably pick Fury.
“If a gun was put to my head, right now, I’d go the easy way. I’d go with Fury. But you know what? I would wait a bit of this.
“I could see an argument for both scenarios.”
    Prediction: Fury… for now
