Canelo Alvarez set for Callum Smith showdown before Gennady Golovkin trilogy bout in May

CANELO ALVAREZ is in line to face Callum Smith in his next fight before moving on to a trilogy bout with Gennady Golovkin.
The Mexican superstar, 29, was due to challenge WBO super-middleweight champion Billy Joe Saunders, 30, this summer until the coronavirus pandemic KO’d the clash.

Smith is in line to defend his WBA super-middleweight title against Canelo
Canelo has since remained in the gym as he targeted a return to the ring in September.
Saunders ruled himself out of headliner, citing an inability to train, sparking a host of contenders putting their name into the Canelo sweepstake.
John Ryder, 32, Jason Quigley, 28 and Sergiy Derevyanchenko, 34 were among those considered.
But WBA super-middleweight champion Smith has now emerged as the frontrunner, according to The Athletic.

It is claimed the unbeaten 30-year-old has been offered £4million to defend his title against Canelo.
But Smith – whose brother Liam was beaten by Alvarez in 2016 – is said to be pushing for £5m.
Canelo was hoping to fight on September 12, with a reduced crowd in attendance, but with an opponent yet to be confirmed, the date could be pushed back.

Oscar De La Hoya, 47, hints at Canelo Alvarez fight next year as boxing legend targets sensational comeback

OSCAR DE LA HOYA has refused to rule out a fight against Saul Alvarez as he targets a return to the ring in 2021.
The 47-year-old Golden Boy chief – who has promoted Canelo for a decade – hasn’t fought since he was destroyed by Manny Pacquiao in 2008.

But the 1992 Olympic gold medalist – who won 11 world titles in his glittering career in six different weight classes – is considering stepping out of retirement.
There had been talk of De La Hoya facing MMA star Conor McGregor after the American stated in an interview he would knock out the Notorious inside two rounds.
And now the 39-6 fighter has hinted he could face Canelo once he steps back inside the squared circle as he follows Mike Tyson and Evander Holyfield in returning.
Speaking to DAZN about his comeback, De La Hoya – who wants to compete in the light-middleweight division – said: “I can do some damage to a few fighters out there.

“Skill is involved, and my power, you never lose power. Maybe my timing might be off a little, but that’s something I’m going to have to figure out when you’re up there.
“There’s a lot that’s going to come into play, and I strongly feel I can do it. I’m working with a small team in Pasadena.
“Nobody that the people would know out there that has a name, but they’re helping me out to make sure I get in shape, and I don’t get injured.”
When asked about a possible fight against Canelo, he stated: “I don’t know. I’m crazy but not that crazy.

TYSON FURY has posted another motivational video to his Twitter followers as he told his fans to always ‘keep moving forward’.
The Gypsy King – who is gearing up to face Deontay Wilder in their trilogy bout on December 19 – uploaded a clip on social media after a run with his dad John.

Tyson Fury posted a clip on Twitter after he and dad John went on a run
In the video, the WBC heavyweight champion urged his supporters to never give up no matter what they’re battling, as John jokingly branded himself as a “fat b******”.
Speaking to his old man in the upload, Fury said: “Just finished a lovely one-hour cross country run dad, how you feeling?”
To which John replied by saying: “Yeah I’m feeling pretty good, fit, fit as a fiddle.”
Fury then commented: “It’s absolutely a blessing to be able to go running every day like this isn’t it?”

With dad John stating: “Yeah it definitely is, especially at my age, I’ve looked after myself, I’ve worked hard at it so I’m reaping the rewards now and look at me running with you son, It’s a privilege to be here.”
Fury then told his followers: “Everyone remember that, it doesn’t matter how old you are, how fat you are, how low you feel, we can always get up and keep moving forward.”
Illustrating his son’s point, John quipped: “And I’m a fat b******!”
Fury then finished off the video by saying: “We never give up and we keep battling on, no matter what gets in our way, we move forward. All the best have a good day.”

Ten fights for Mike Tyson including Holyfield and Fury’s DAD as 54-year-old is bombarded with offers after returning

VERY few people would be brave enough to step into the ring with Mike Tyson – even at the age 54.
The heavyweight legend has been knuckling down in the gym ahead of his highly-anticipated boxing comeback.

Mike Tyson looks in incredible shape ahead of his return
Tyson was one of the most feared fighters on the planet before he hung up his gloves in 2005.
The American hardman is reportedly eyeing up a four-round exhibition fight to raise money for charity.
But his opponent has not yet been named – which is no surprise after he released a short clip of himself sparring.
SunSport have pulled together ten stars that have been tipped to fight the former heavyweight champ.

John Fury has claimed he is the hardest man in Britain
    John Fury
John, father of heavyweight champion Tyson, has declared he is prepared to die in the ring against Tyson.
The self-proclaimed hardest man in Britain, 56, called out the 54-year-old in a video that has been doing the rounds on Twitter.
He screamed: “Here I am, John Fury is hiding from no man, not even the king of old men, Mike Tyson.
“I will fight Mike Tyson. I will not be denied. I will die in a fight.”

    Evander Holyfield
Boxing legend Holyfield has announced he is also stepping back into the ring for an exhibition fight, aged 57.
He beat rival Tyson twice during his illustrious career – which has led to speculation that a trilogy is on the cards.
Holyfield ruined his rival’s first defence of his WBC title before Tyson was disqualified in their next bout for biting a chunk off his ear.
Fans are desperate to see the two heavyweight legends lock horns for a third time.

Sonny Bill Williams has an unbeaten record in the boxing ring
    Sonny Bill Williams
Tyson has been offered $1million to take on the All Blacks legend in his comeback fight.
Rugby legend Williams has won all seven of his professional fights – but has not boxed since 2015.
Tyson’s former trainer Jeff Fenech has urged the 6ft 4in rugby legend to steer clear of Tyson – unless he wants to end up in a morgue.
He said: “Let me tell you something. If he hits Sonny Bill Williams or Paul Gallen, he will be up for manslaughter.”

    Paul Gallen
Promoter Brian Amatruda has also lined up rugby league legend Gallen as a possible opponent for Tyson.
Speaking to the Wide World of Sports on Thursday, he revealed he would be up for the challenge.
He said: “I’m fighting Sonny Bill, Barry Hall, Mark Hunt, every NRL player wants to fight… and now Mike Tyson!
“I don’t know where I’m going to get time to do it all, but people out there should just wait until they hear from me who I’m going to fight next and that’s who I’ll be fighting.”

Barry Hall was a junior boxing champion, but struggled to impress as a professional
    Barry Hall
Barry Hall is the other rugby league star has been put forward by Amatruda to fight Iron Mike Down Under.
He is a former junior boxing champion, but his professional record leaves a lot to be desired as it is 0-0-1.
Tyson, who was the heavyweight champion of the world aged 20, retired with 50 wins including 44 knockouts.

    Danny Williams
Tyson has been offered a rematch by Danny Williams – 16 years after he was brutally knocked out by the Brit.
Williams, who beat the American in 2004 and is incredibly still fighting, has contacted the American’s representatives to set up a rematch.
He told World Boxing News: “I can confirm that a few of my agents have put my name up to fight ‘Iron’ Mike Tyson.
“We are still awaiting an answer but it’s definitely a fight I want.”

Tyson could face Wladimir and Vitali Klitschko in an incredible ‘tag-team’ match.
Shannon Briggs suggested he could team up with the former Baddest Man on the Planet for the incredible bout.
And the Klitschko brothers, or one of them alongside David Haye, could be their opponents.
Wladimir, 44, spent a decide as world champion before he was dethroned by Tyson Fury – but talk of a comeback is never far away.

    David Haye
Haye, 39, has hinted he could make a spectacular comeback after overcoming the injuries the ended his career prematurely.
The Brit famously tore his Achilles tendon during the grudge match against light-heavyweight Tony Bellew.
But he has hinted he will only return to the ring to fight Anthony Joshua or Tyson Fury.
He told Behind The Gloves: “The only one that I would do it for is the winner of AJ vs Tyson Fury because that would be No1 vs No1.”

Deontay Wilder’s manager confirms he WILL fight Tyson Fury this year despite Eddie Hearn doubting US star wants trilogy

TYSON FURY’S trilogy bout against Deontay Wilder is still expected to go ahead in 2020 after the Bronze Bomber’s manager vowed the two are set to get it on again.
The duo are set to meet in Las Vegas on December 19 with the Gypsy King to defend the WBC heavyweight title he ripped away from the American in February.

    1

Deontay Wilder lost the WBC title in February after he was stopped by Tyson Fury
Wilder immediately invoked a rematch clause in the aftermath of his first professional defeat, and Fury is already training for his third bout with the 2008 Olympic bronze medallist.
Matchroom promoter Eddie Hearn revealed last week that he has doubts whether a trilogy fight will materialise later this year and wants WBC mandatory Dillian Whyte to face Fury instead.
He told IFL: “I’ll do Whyte-Fury. I’ll stick the dough up. It’s a huge fight.
“We haven’t heard from Deontay Wilder. He hasn’t been vocal about the third fight.

“But we understand the position. Tyson Fury has got to fight Deontay Wilder. Good luck, crack on. It’s difficult for everyone.”

But Wilder’s manager Shelly Finkel has poured cold water on claims Wilder isn’t willing to fight for his old belt.
Speaking to Sky Sports, he simply stated: “Deontay will fight Fury this year.”

Fans are also desperate to see Fury and British rival Anthony Joshua clash in 2021 with a two-fight deal already agreed for next year.
And the pair even bumped into each other in Marbella just a few days ago, with the duo engaging in a chat.
Commenting on what they spoke about, Joshua’s promoter Hearn said: “It was amazing, people think it was a set up.

Gervonta Davis set to fight Leo Santa Cruz in first bout since his arrest in mouthwatering October world title clash

GERVONTA DAVIS and Leo Santa Cruz are reportedly set to face each other on October 24 in a mouthwatering match-up.
The pair have lost just once between them in 62 fights, and both men will go into the bout as world champions in separate weight classes.

    1

Gervonta Davis has won all 23 of his fights in the paid ranks
Davis, 24, holds a version of the WBA lightweight title, while Santa Cruz picked up the WBA super-featherweight strap in his last outing against Miguel Flores.
According to The Athletic, the two will meet this October at Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, Connecticut.
They state that the fight is likely to be held at super-featherweight – with Davis having to drop down in order to face the Mexican.
Davis is a former two-time world champion in the 130lbs division, where he claimed the WBA and IBF strap before moving up to 135lbs in his last fight.

Meanwhile Santa Cruz, 31, has fought just once at 130lbs having campaigned as a featherweight for four years.
An official announcement on the fight between the two is likely to be confirmed later on Wednesday.
Davis goes into the bout having won all 23 of his fights in the paid ranks – with 22 victories coming by way of KO – while Santa Cruz has won 37 out of 39 contests.
It will be the first dust-up of 2020 for the duo, and the first fight for Davis since he was charged with one count of simple battery domestic violence in February.

Daniel Dubois has dreams about finally nailing Joe Joyce on Brit heavyweight pair’s third date

DANIEL DUBOIS is dreaming about finally nailing his Joe Joyce grudge… on their third date.
The heavyweight pair – who were separated by a  protective screen at yesterday’s face-off – have seen their clashed canned in April and July due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

    3

And Brit champ Dubois has revealed the socially-distanced relationship has made Joyce a permanent fixture in his bedtime thoughts.
Ahead of their scheduled October 24 clash at a fan-filled O2, 22-year-old Dubois said: “He’s been on my mind since the very first fight was made and he has never gone away, even after the postponements.
“He has been nagging at me all the time, I have dreams about this fight. And yes I win everytime.
“It’s not personal for me. But this is an aggravating business and fighters just have to fight to better themselves and take no prisoners.”

The London pair will put their unbeaten records on the line at the Greenwich venue as long as they come through a keep-warm fight each.
Joyce faces German hardman Michael Wallisch on Saturday, before Dubois meets respected amateur Erik Pfeifer on August 29, both at the BT Sport studios in Stratford.

Despite turning 35 in September and having a silver medal from the 2016 Olympics, Joyce is miles off a world title shot because of the rematches and mandatories Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua are juggling.
So he wants all promoters, managers and broadcasters to have him on speed dial if they need a last-minute replacement, like Andy Ruiz did a year ago.
