How Mike Tyson went bankrupt and regained fortune with Hollywood roles and cannabis farm

MIKE TYSON is on the comeback trail – and things are looking good.
With a successful podcast, marijuana ranch and even Hollywood film cameos, Iron Mike, 54, appears to be living the good life again.

Things appear to be going pretty well for Iron MikeCredit: Instagram
But gone are the days of the sort of outlandish lavish spending that saw him blow his estimated £320million fortune and file for bankruptcy back in 2003, however.
In fact, the Baddest Man on the Planet has even managed to become a millionaire again – having recovered from eye-watering debt of around £18m at one point.
But how did he manage to blow that fortune in the first place? And how has he managed to rebuild his wealth? SunSport takes a look.

At his 90s peak, Mike Tyson was one of the most famous men on the planet, having conquered the heavyweight division.

And he certainly enjoyed the spoils of his success, throwing lavish parties and revelling in the taste of glory.
These bashes included his 30th birthday party, attended by a star-studded 700-strong guest list including future president Donald Trump – with the night setting him back an eye-watering £320,000.
He also built quite the car collection, including the rare Lamborghini LM002 – worth over £100,000 factoring in inflation.
Tyson bought a Cadillac Escalade and Hummer H2 – adding another £140,000 worth of motors to his collection.

It wasn’t just big SUVs that joined his fleet, however, as he also purchased a £400,000 Bentley Continental SC.
Overall, The Richest claim that Tyson spent more than £3.5m on his luxury car collection.
In addition to his wheels, Iron Mike collated an even more impressive collection of luxury mansions.

And he bought plenty of stunning cars like this one
These included a giant estate in Connecticut that he bought for £2.3m… and 18 months later unsuccessfully tried to flog for £17.5m.
The property included 24 bathrooms, a four storey elevator, swimming pool, cinema room, disco and NBA standard outdoor basketball court.
He also bought a £1.9m mansion in Nevada, and a similarly heftily-priced pad in Los Angeles.
    EXPENSIVE TREATS

Tyson treated ex-wife Robin Givens to an infamous £1.75m solid gold bathtub, enabling her to relax in style – but burning what would be a rather deep hole in the pocket of most sportsmen.
Even more infamous than that, were his two pet tigers, which set him back £55,000 each – and a whole lot more in keeping them looked after – with just their food costing £150,000-a-year.
Tyson also loved his jewellery, and was the proud owner of a stunning £635,000 Piaget watch.
Following his 2003 bankruptcy Tyson, by this point sporting his iconic face tattoo, fought twice more professionally – losing bouts to Danny Williams and Kevin McBride respectively.

He pleaded guilty to charges of cocaine possession and driving under influence in two years later, serving 24 hours in jail and being made to take part in community service upon his release.
But since then, things have looked up for Iron Mike.
He properly launched his career on screen by playing an altered version of himself in the hit American comedy The Hangover.
And he has since appeared in other titles including Ip man 3 – and even a 2015 Madonna track.
Tyson has also launched his successful podcast, Hotboxin, as well as collaborating with Spike Lee on a touring one-man show.

Anthony Joshua still does not respect Tyson Fury’s record – despite brilliant win over Deontay Wilder

ANTHONY JOSHUA still does not respect Tyson Fury’s record, despite his dismantling of Deontay Wilder.
The undefeated Gypsy King has two iconic wins on his record — the 2015 masterclass points win over Wladimir Klitschko and the sensational February demolition job on the Bronze Bomber.

    2

Anthony Joshua says he does not respect Tyson Fury’s boxing recordCredit: Reuters
But AJ reckons his CV, which includes the scalps of Dillian Whyte, Klitschko, Joseph Parker and Alexander Povetkin, holds up far better under scrutiny — even after his loss to Andy Ruiz Jr.
The WBA, WBO and IBF world  heavyweight champion said: “If the sport is lacking so much talent, it shows that all you need is feints and a bit of movement to be called a great of your generation.
“I wonder what people see in Fury that is so intimidating that he can’t be touched?
“Wladimir Klitschko was his first real challenge and he won that, it took him  eight years to get there — from the amateurs to there and then he had years out and fought Wilder.

“He has not been in the deep end enough to prove he can swim there for a long time.
“You don’t just come there once or twice, you have to do it repeatedly against championship-level fighters, that is how you gain my respect.”
Joshua, 30, also pulled no punches when asked about his hot and cold  relationship with Whyte, who he lost to as an amateur but beat as a pro.
He said: “I like Dillian as a fighter but I have rooted for some of his competition.

“Against Derek Chisora, I would have liked to have seen Dillian on his back.

    2

“I just don’t listen to what Dillian has to say. They have always tried to tarnish my career and spoken negatively about me, so I don’t respect those guys.
“They don’t really sit in the same room as me, I keep a distance from those sorts of people.”
Joshua also revealed how close he was to quitting boxing before he transformed from a local bad lad to London 2012 golden boy.
He spent time on remand in prison around 2007 and was arrested again in 2010 when police found him with 8oz  of cannabis.
He explained: “I was like ‘You know what, f*** this’. I was ready to leave GB Boxing, this s*** ain’t for me.

Watch Mike Tyson smoke a huge joint as he signs the deal for comeback fight against Roy Jones Jr

MIKE TYSON has officially signed the contract to fight Roy Jones Jr on September 12 – while holding a chunky marijuana joint.
The eight-round exhibition clash in California marks a huge moment in the American’s career, after 15 years away from the sport.

A smiling Roy Jones Jr also put pen to paper
Now 54, Iron Mike had been hotly-tipped to re-enter the ring once more having gotten a grip of his substance and weight issues.
And Tyson has looked in tip-top shape in recent months, while still smoking weed.
He is believed to earn £500,000-a-month from his cannabis products business, with the drug legal in California, and hopes to build a luxury resort for users.
But boxing is back at the forefront of his mind and sports promoter Dean Toole posted a video of Tyson and Jones Jr putting pen to paper on Thursday.

The fight’s promotion company Triller is reportedly planning a huge music and boxing showcase for seven weeks’ time.
A full undercard is being finalised as well as a docuseries focusing on both fighters’ build-up to their comebacks.

As for the bout itself, there will be no judges present with the contest only over via a knockout or injury, such as a cut.
Brooklyn-born Tyson remains the youngest boxer to ever win a heavyweight title having dominated the division in the late 1980s.

Meanwhile, Jones Jr, 51, only hung up his gloves in 2018 after a long career that included world titles in four weight classes.
Jones Jr told BoxingScene: “I was done. But when it’s Mike Tyson? A light came on.

When is Daniel Dubois vs Joe Joyce? Dates and news for the heavyweight showdown

DANIEL DUBOIS is set to showdown with Joe Joyce in an all-British heavyweight fight.
22-year-old Dubois is one of Britains hottest prospects and has a proud unbeaten record of 14 straight wins.

His fight against Joyce is set to be the biggest test of his professional career as he takes on the 34-year-old former Olympian.
Joyce boasts win against the likes of Bermans Stiverne, Alexander Ustinov and Bryant Jennings, just in 2019.
Joyce is set for action this weekend as he takes on Michael Wallisch in a 10-round main event on Saturday from BT Sport Studio in London.
    When is Dubois vs Joyce?
The match was scheduled to go ahead on Saturday, April 11 but due to the pandemic it was scrapped.

Now a new date of October 24 has been slated and it will be held in the O2 arena as originally planned.
Promoter Frank Warren has talked about the announcement of the rescheduled date: “Lockdown has meant a delay, but we all want the fight to take place in October and we are hopeful that the government will give us the all-clear.
“What a position the winner will be in. They will be nailed on for a world title shot in 2021.”

Dubois has been working hard since lockdown began but it didn’t come without its struggles.

He said: “I’ll be ready to go in October for sure. It has been tough during lockdown, but I have ticked over and I’m back in the Peacock gym helping my sparring partner Dorin Krasmaru get ready for his behind closed doors fight on Frank Warren’s bill on July 10.
“Hopefully in the near future I will be able to get some good overseas sparring in. I’ll be ready for October 24, so I hope Joe is coming prepared.”
Joyce was thought to be excited about the news, saying that he was staying on top of training and he ‘can’t wait to punch up Dubois’.

Daniel Dubois is set for an undefeated all-British heavyweight clash with former sparring partner Joe Joyce in October
He went onto say: “Obviously once lockdown started I had a good idea we wouldn’t meet in July, but I was always staying on top of training.
“Now gyms are open for athletes I can kick on and just keep my focus on the new date, finally settling the score with Dubois and moving on to a world title fight.” More

Naazim Richardson dead: Legendary boxing coach who trained world champs Bernard Hopkins and Shane Mosley passes away

LEGENDARY boxing coach Naazim Richardson has passed away.
The “larger-than-life” personality trained the likes of Bernard Hopkins and Shane Mosley during a distinguished career in the sport.

And the boxing community has come together to mourn his tragic passing.
Evander Holyfield tweeted: “Today we lost a legend in the #Boxing community. RIP Nazim Richardson.”
Heavyweight pro Eddie Chambers wrote: “NOOOOOO!!! R.I.P. NAAZIM RICHARDSON!!!”
And he then added: “Thank You For Being a Mentor in my life Naazim Richardson!! Rest in Power!!”

Fans also joined in the tributes, with one writing: “Sorry to hear that. Fantastic trainer, RIP Naz”.
Another added: “Naazim Richardson? That’s a bigger loss for the boxing community than it probably realizes. Damn.”
A third wrote: “Naazim Richardson was one of the great teachers. Sharp, sharp boxing mind. He will be missed.”
And another poignantly added: “Naazim Richardson was a #boxing trainer, a teacher, a gentleman and a man’s man. It was an honor knowing him. Rest In Peace and power, Brother Naazim.”

Everyone has a story that could have ended their lives or stopped their careers. But somehow we found a way to not fall victim to those challenges.
    Bernard Hopkins

Richardson was raised in Philadelphia before leaving home at just 14-years-old.
The New York Times wrote of the great man’s relationship with his craft: “Boxing took Richardson from the streets that almost swallowed him in north Philadelphia, gave him energy and purpose.”
Hopkins, who worked with Richardson, told the Philadelphia Inquirer of his coach and mentor back in 2014: “We feed off each other’s adversity.
“Everyone has a story that could have ended their lives or stopped their careers. But somehow we found a way to not fall victim to those challenges.
“It’s good to know that he’s a fighter, not a quitter.”

Anthony Joshua cried after losing in World Amateur Championships final but loss spurred him on to Olympic gold

ANTHONY JOSHUA was left in tears after losing in the final of the World Amateur Championships – but roared back to win Olympic gold.
The Team GB representative, who only began boxing aged 18, shocked many in Azerbaijan after outpointing Roberto Cammarelle in 2011.

    2

Anthony Joshua win Olympic gold in the London 2012 Games
But he was heartbroken after losing in the final against home boxer Magomedrasul Majidov.
The loss proved influential, as a year later Joshua turned his silver into gold as he reigned supreme in the London 2012 Games.
He told Sky Sports: “In 2011 in Baku when I was at the world championships, fighting the best amateur in the world and I was a little kid who was in trouble a couple of years back.
“I thought, ‘What the hell am i doing here’ it was an unbelievable fight and he won by one point.

“I just remember the walk off and i shed a little tear when I lost and knew I would make it right when I came back for the Olympics.”

“Make one mistake and don’t do it again. Sleep late once, don’t do it again, same with a bad meal. Don’t keep making the same mistakes over again.
    Joshua on learning from failure

Joshua again beat Cammarelle to win the Olympic gold, but it was gruelling sessions on the GB squad that almost drove the heavyweight out of boxing completely.
But after persisting, and achieving his amateur ambitions, the 30-year-old has since become a unified heavyweight champion as a professional.
AJ saved his career in his last fight in December, winning back the belts he lost to Andy Ruiz Jr in a monumental shock six months prior.

Ahead of his next mandatory defence against Kubrat Pulev, 39, and a possible Tyson Fury, 31, unification to follow, Joshua opened up about learning from failure.

Chisora in talks to make MMA switch with Bellator picturing ‘fun opponent’ after Hearn hinted at Whyte fight

BELLATOR promoter Scott Coker confirmed he has held talks with heavyweight boxer Dereck Chisora.
Chisora, 36, announced plans to make an MMA switch, as he grew frustrated with boxing’s pause amid the coronavirus pandemic.

    2

Bellator promoter Scott Coker confirmed he has held talks with heavyweight boxer Dereck Chisora
His headliner against Oleksandr Usyk, 33, was axed in May but now looks set for October.
Chisora hopes to make his cage debut afterwards, with Coker all-in to work with the Londoner.
He told Sky Sports: “There is dialogue. We’d love to have him.
“If he has time in his schedule to compete in MMA, we’d love to put him in there and test him out.

“Depending on his schedule we’d love to get him into our rotation, if time permits.
“He has so many boxing fights but it is still a different experience to fight with little gloves, and in a cage would be an adjustment.
“I picture a fun opponent for him to compete with.

“We haven’t spoken about opponents or timing. It comes down to when he is available.

“Let’s get it on! He brings a lot to the table.”
Chisora has been training at London Shootfighters academy, to help improve his clinch work in prep to face Usyk.
But it soon turned into full blown MMA training, with Bellator star Michael Venom Page involved.
MVP said: “He is around us a lot. We train together a lot, do our fitness together.
“He has jumped into a couple of sessions with us, to see what it’s about.
“But I see where his passion is. It is in boxing. From what I see, his focus should be on boxing.”
