Mike Tyson given chance to avenge Kevin McBride loss after being so savagely beaten he quit on his stool

MIKE TYSON has been offered the chance to avenge the last defeat of his career by rematching Kevin McBride.
McBride forced Iron Mike to quit on his stool after a laboured six rounds in 2005, the last time Tyson fought as a professional.

McBride is open to offering Tyson a rematch
But 15 years on and the 54-year-old heavyweight legend is on the verge of a sensational comeback after he signed to box Roy Jones Jr, 51, in an eight-round exhibition.
It was welcomed news for Irishman McBride, 47, now a tree surgeon, who fancies another payday against Tyson.
He told TMZ Sports: “It would be a dream to fight him again. My boss Brendan Hoarty says if the fight gets on he’ll give me time off work.
“Nobody can rule out anything in this world because that’s life.

“It would be explosive to fight Mike Tyson again and I’m sure Mike would love to rectify his loss.
“I would just love to jump in the ring again with him.”
Unlike McBride’s win against Tyson, the pay-per-view spectacle will not go down as a professional contest.

Chris Eubank Jr reveals he’s sparring with Roy Jones Jr to train veteran for Mike Tyson fight

CHRIS EUBANK JR revealed he has been working with Roy Jones Jr “every day” to train him for his fight against Mike Tyson.
The two veterans of boxing, with a combined age of 105, dust off their gloves in an exhibition scrap on September 12 in California.

Iron Mike has lost an incredible five stone to get himself fighting fit ahead of his first appearance in the ring since 2005.
And to combat former heavyweight champ Tyson’s brutal punches, Jones Jr has drafted in Brit boxer Eubank Jr as a sparring partner.
Speaking to talkSPORT, the Brit boxer revealed he is living the dream to have landed in his position.
Eubank Jr said: “I just never dreamed I would be in this situation where I’m being trained by one of the best ever, somebody I looked up to and idolised as a kid.

“And now I’m training with him every day, sparring with him.
“Obviously I’ve got to get him in shape for this fight he’s got with Mike, but just a lot of learning.
“A lot of one-on-one time spent on focussing and mastering these little things that I guess I lost track of over the years.”
Eubank Jr, 30, admitted how he idolised the legendary Tyson growing up and for the first time ever wants the American to lose.

He added: “I’ve got a front row view into what Roy is doing to prepare for Mike and I’m helping him.
“This is something that I never dreamed in a million years I would be doing, helping Roy Jones to fight Mike Tyson.
“How are we here, how has this happened? But yeah, it really is happening.
“I’m actually going to Pittsburg with him in a couple days and we’re gonna do some training out there.
Mike Tyson and Roy Jones are two of my favourite fighters of all time.
“I never ever thought I would be watching a fight and rooting against Mike Tyson.

I’ve got to get him in shape for this fight he’s got with Mike.
    Chris Eubank Jr

“Mike Tyson is a hero of mine, but I’m in this crazy position where I’ve got two heroes and they’re fighting and I can’t go against Roy.
“I’ve been with him every day for the last five months so I’m actually in this weird position where I wanna see one of my heroes not win.
“I don’t know how prepared Mike is.
“He looks great in his little 30-second clips on Instagram, but eight rounds against Roy Jones is a different thing.
“Roy has been active. He had a fight like two years ago.
“He’s the type of guy, boxing is everything to Roy. I’m not saying it’s not everything to Mike, but I think after Mike retired, boxing became something he used to do and he lived another life.
“Roy has never lived any other life, he’s in the gym every day and he loves it.”

Lucky Tyson Fury should have lost his unbeaten fight record to railway worker John McDermott in his early years

TYSON FURY is back on top in heavyweight boxing – but it could have been very different.
The Gypsy King completed a sensational comeback in the sport when he battered Deontay Wilder back in February to win the WBC world title.

It handed the American his first professional defeat, and also maintained his own unbeaten record.
But back in 2009 Fury managed to keep that 0 in his losses column when he came up against slugger John McDermott.
Fury was heralded as one of British boxing’s best talents having blitzed seven opponents in quick time.
His team decided to step things up against ‘Big Bad’ McDermott, with the English title on the line.

McDermott went in to the bout on the back of two losses against Danny Williams, but his 30-fight record included many KOs that would test out the new golden boy’s chin.
And while no stoppage came for either boxer, McDermott had seemingly put the skids on Fury’s blossoming career with a messy points win.

It was far from a spectacular performance. But McDermott snaffled and bullied the younger man, with Fury, the 1/6 favourite on the night, left relying on distance flurries.
Going into the final round Fury’s corner were heard telling their man that he was behind on points and needed a grandstand finish – that never came.

Referee Terry O’Connor saw things differently and somehow scored it 98-92 to Fury.
It led to McDermott’s promoter at the time, Frank Maloney, now Kellie Maloney, slamming O’Connor as a “disgrace to boxing”.
Guardian writer Kevin Mitchell pulled no punches in his assessment of the result, saying at the time that he “cannot remember a worse decision in the sport”.
He wrote that Fury “got away with a robbery of the highway variety” and that the boxing community “were left outraged by the decision”.

Basildon boxer McDermott could barely believe the referee’s decisionCredit: Rex Features
Boxing legend Jim Watt was commentating for Sky Sports, and his scorecard gave it to McDermott by two rounds, 96-94 with Fury only coming close after winning the final two.
McDermott was crestfallen as he gave his post-fight interview ringside.
He said: “What have I got to do to win it? I’m a nice gentle guy, he’s the one with the big mouth and I’ve been penalised for it.”
Fury, 21 at the time, said that he thought he had won it, and admitted that he “would have retired” if he had lost the fight.
The rematch was inevitable, and as luck would have it Fury came in a year later a different beast and knocked McDermott down three times on the way to a ninth-round stoppage.
But the controversy of that first clash still lingers, with McDermott even claiming Tyson’s dad John admitted to him that his son had “lost the fight”.

Speaking to Sky Sports, the Basildon ex-boxer, who now works on the railways fixing overhead cables, admits the result still “annoys” him.
He said: “I’m not saying I would have gone on to fight for the world title but it would have helped me, at the time.
“A bit more money when there wasn’t much money in boxing. He’s a millionaire now and I’m struggling.
“They thought I’d be an easy fight. They didn’t think I could dig deep.
“I remember walking up to the punch bag and my trainer drew a line at 6’9” and said: ‘This is how tall Tyson Fury is’. I remember thinking: ‘How am I going to hit the bloke?’
“I thought the judges were scoring it. But people were booing and I saw the referee holding Fury’s hand up. It’s just madness, I don’t know what happened. How can he score it 8-2?”

Ted Cheeseman beats Sam Eggington in brilliant, brutal war at Eddie Hearn’s stunning Matchroom Fight Camp setting

TED CHEESEMAN and Sam Eggington burned down the barn in Eddie Hearn’s back garden in a sensational headliner of his first post-lockdown show.
The English super-welterweight pair went toe-to-toe in a magnificent clash for little more than reduced purses and bragging rights.

And fans glued to their TVs were treated to a sensational war as 24-year-old Cheeseman raced into an early lead before Birmingham banger Eggington battered his way back into the contest.
The judges scored it 116-113, 116-113 and 115-114 all in favour of Cheeseman who had not won since October 2018.
The English super-welterweight pair exchanged hooks early on but it was Cheeseman’s right uppercut that was the best punch of the cautious opener.
Cheeseman’s movement and jab were superior early on but suddenly a left hook and right hand from Eggington turned the tide and the 26-year-old followed it up with a one-two

But the Big Cheese whacked back with a great left hook from off the ropes.
Then a meaty right hand from the South Londoner landed, Eggington’s bum grazed the deck but he escaped a count and marched on.
In the third, Cheeseman peppered Egg’s ribs with body shots but, when Cheeseman lunged in, a right hook tagged him.
In the fifth, a right hand from the Cheese was flush but warhorse Eggington remained stoic.

    10

Eggington scored with a clean left hook to win the sixth but Cheeseman had repeatedly proved he has a granite chin and Saturday night was no different after he brushed off an uppercut.
But Cheeseman’s nose was busted in the seventh as Eggington enjoyed the middle stanzas.
Eggington looked like he was taking control of the bout but a big right hand seemed to rock him in the eighth to swing the pendulum once again.
Cheeseman raced into the ninth with two rasping straight rights and a looping uppercut and Eggington’s left eye was starting to close as the wind howled through the canopy.
But Eggington then banged back into the round with some brilliant counter punching off the ropes.

Both British warriors landed heavy shots at the end of the 10th, giving the judges the horrible task of splitting them at a crucial stage of the bout.
The penultimate was another brutal three minutes with both men scoring and shipping hard shots.
The battered pair shared a hug before the 12th round started, Cheeseman scythed into Eggington’s body but the Brummie shot back at his opponent’s scarred face.

Fabio Wardley stops Simon Vallily in three rounds of heavyweight grudge match in front watching mentor Dillian Whyte

FABIO WARDLEY copied mentor Dillian Whyte’s trademark left hook to smash the moustache off Simon Vallily for the English heavyweight title.
With his manager, and sometime sparring partner, watching live from his Portugal training camp, the red-hot novice landed a brilliant third-round stoppage over the previously decorated amateur.

After just FOUR white-collar fights, the Ipswich ace gobbled up the belt Daniel Dubois recently relinquished with a punch-perfect showing in just his NINTH pro bout.
Having mocked Vallily’s handlebar face furniture with a fake one of his own during fight week, the 25-year-old took a couple of rounds to suss out his man before almost whacking off his whiskers to prove he is the real deal.
Wardley said: “I started boxing for fun, to enjoy the pressure and the work.
“Four white collar fights and a few pro fights and I have a heavyweight title, I am massively humble and grateful.

    3

Middlesbrough fighter Vallily was stopped in round threeCredit: ©Mark Robinson Ltd
“It went punch-perfect for me really. I said before that I would play around for the first couple of rounds to see what he had and that’s what I did.
“Then I told my team I knew where the gaps were and then I knew the fight was over.”
Wardley, who has also twice been invited to the Ukraine to spar Oleksandr Usyk, scored with a couple of piston-like jabs in the opener, rocking his 34-year-old rival’s head back with a couple of his best.
Vallily held the centre of the ring but Wardley had no problem shuffling his 16st frame safely around the ring and pinging back neatly.

Wardley felt the first serious right hand of his young career in the middle of the second but absorbed it like a veteran and fired back with a rapid combo.

Inside the Matchroom mansion, Eddie Hearn’s former home converted into an office with a gym, pool, and helipad

THE Matchroom HQ in Essex is where boxing promoter Eddie Hearn makes all his key decisions.
Originally bought by his dad Barry around 30 years ago, it’s was the family’s former house before it became the home of boxing, snooker and darts.

Then, it cost Hearn Sr a meagre £200,000 – and was an upgrade from the Dagenham council house he grew up in.
The property boasts a gym and swimming pool, which Hearn’s staff and pool of fighters can use.
While in the lush expansive garden, you’ll find a helipad and occasionally a boxer working out with pads or going for a run.
Join SunSport for a tour inside.

    LEISURE COMPLEX
Matchroom HQ isn’t just a place where Hearn meets his fighters, conducts media days and draws out his plans for boxing domination.
It’s also a place that boasts a leisure complex, in which fighters can exercise with their trainers.
“The key to a healthy mind is a healthy body,” Hearn told The Daily Mail.
“We’ve got a pool and a gym upstairs, where the fighters come in for meetings, can have some sessions with their trainers and do some strength work in the pool.

“This pool has been used by a number of great fighters over the years – Chris Eubank, Jim McDonnell, and Darren Barker.
“It’s great to have this facility here, not only for our staff and our employers and our team, but also for our team of fighters.”
    INCREDIBLE GROUNDS
Surrounding the stately property are some stunning grounds.
It’s where Anthony Joshua and Co. love to go for a run, and even some outdoor pad work.
“There’s some great runs in the forest,” Hearn revealed.
“Many fighters have been seen through the years doing many a circuit.
“In the summertime, actually, a lot of them come out here and do their pad work, circuits and strength work.
“It’s a great feel and great to have the fighters here, when they are around.”

    THEY’VE COME A LONG WAY
Eddie’s dad Barry has come a long way since his own childhood.
He came from a Dagenham council estate, but made good as a promoter for the likes of Chris Eubank, Nigel Benn and Lennox Lewis.
Although Eddie is effectively in charge of the business these days, Barry still has the better office.
“This was the house my dad bought about 30 years ago,” he told TalkSport.
“He was from a council house in Dagenham, did well, and this was his first major purchase.
“I grew up here, so we feel great here and it’s been very good to us.
“He paid two hundred grand for it at the time. Looks like a good investment now, but more than the money this has been a very lucky place for us.
“We’re big believers in that and luck.”

    FIGHT ISLAND
Like Dana White has done with the UFC, Eddie has created his own ‘Fight Island’ to stage boxing matches.
However, his plans are more personal. Hearn is turning the mansion’s garden into a fighting arena, with events starting from August 1.
Hearn said: “Our project restart is about staging live boxing from the garden there with a canopy.
“You’ve heard of Madison Square Garden and this is the new garden.
“We talked about doing boxing in studios and there’s a lot of people doing it. I just feel like when you are talking about a gladiatorial sport, like boxing, you need to create that moment, that energy, not just for the viewer at home but the fighter as well.
“We’ve got big plans. It looks fantastic. There’s still a long way to go. I think it’s 90 per cent for us. Anything could happen at any time.
    HOW IT’LL WORK
And Hearn has really thought it through.
“There’s a hotel at the bottom of the road that we will take over. On the Wednesday, before the Saturday, everybody will turn up. Fighters, Sky team, corners, our team will all be tested at a facility,” he continued.

Who is David Diamante, why does he repeat surnames, and how old is Sky boxing ring announcer?

MOVE over Michael Buffer, there’s a new announcer in town.
The legendary Buffer, famed for his ‘let’s get ready to rumble’ call to arms, now has competition in the form of fellow American David Diamante.

    1

Diamante is the official voice of Matchroom BoxingCredit: AP:Associated Press
    Who is David Diamante?
A NATIVE of Brooklyn, New York, Diamante will be a familiar face to boxing fans on both sides of the pond.
He has been ring announcer, sports announcer, TV host and actor for over fifteen years and has worked across the disciplines of professional boxing, MMA and Muay Thai.
Currently he is the official announcer for Matchroom Boxing and will be in New York for Anthony Joshua’s title showdown with Andy Ruiz Jr.
Along with a role as himself in the film Southpaw, Diamente has also appeared in flicks including Counterpunch, Out of the Ring, Ringside, and Hardy.

Famed for his long dreadlocks and imposing height, the 47-year-old old announcer is a former gentleman’s club DJ and motorcycle enthusiast.
He has his own line of hand-rolled cigars having opened Diamante’s Brooklyn Cigar Lounge in 2009.

    Why does he repeat surnames?
YOU may have noticed that Diamante says the name of each boxer twice when announcing them to the crowd.
For example, he will introduce Anthony Joshua with an emphatic ‘ANTHONY JOSHUA!’, before pausing until the noise has subsided and then add another quieter ‘Joshua’.

This practice began in his days at smaller venues, where the announcer wanted to make sure the whole crowd heard the name of each competitor – even those at the back.
Diamante explained to GMS: “Growing up I loved it when guys did it. My two favourite announcers were Mark Bureau and Ed Derian and they didn’t do the huge fights, but they were great announcers.
“They would always repeat the surnames and I always loved that as a kid.
“It was one of those things – I grew up watching the fights and loving the fights. Hearing that with the music just sounds right to me.
“[Saying the names twice] originally started many, many years ago. Back in the day some of the of the speaker systems weren’t that great and guys would call out the name once and then do it [again to a different part of the arena], so guys can hear it on the other side”.

They filmed hilarious scenes from cult movie The Hangover, in a cameo that would go on to define him and rebuild his career after years of bankruptcy.
Found in the beautiful gated community called Seven Hills in the suburb of Henderson, it boasts six bedrooms and six-and-a-half bathrooms, and its own private balcony.
And golf enthusiasts will enjoy the incredible 18-hole Rio Secco Golf Club, as well as four large private parks filled with basketball courts, tennis courts and football pitches.
    ITALIAN-STYLE
Like many new builds in Las Vegas within gated communities, the 5,740-square-feet mansion was built in an Italian style in 2001.

Two-storeys in size, the entrance opens to a grand reception room with a 25-foot-high lit waterfall, which connects to the great room that has a wet bar and fireplace.
You can imagine the great room is perfect for lounging, and where cannabis-advocate Tyson may possibly enjoy an occasional smoke.

While a centre-island kitchen has a another wet bar, and a wine cellar.
For those chilly desert evenings, the home has four fireplaces.
