Tyson Fury risks missing out on Anthony Joshua fight if he snubs WBC title scrap with Dillian Whyte, says Eddie Hearn

ANTHONY JOSHUA will not fight Tyson Fury if he ignores WBC mandatory challenger Dillian Whyte, warns Eddie Hearn.
Whyte is currently in line to take on Fury but could surrender his chance to Alexander Povetkin if he loses the ‘Diamond’ belt in the final fight camp next Saturday.

Fury, 32, first needs to fulfil contractual obligations to scrap Deontay Wilder for a third time.
And the WBC confirmed the winner must face the mandatory or face giving up the belt – further delaying an undisputed scrap with AJ.
Hearn has further put the pressure on the Gypsy King to win both fights claiming Joshua only wants to box the fighter who holds the WBC belt.
Speaking to iFL TV, he said: “It’s [WBC Diamond] is on the line for the first time. It’s still for the interim world heavyweight title, but also the Diamond belt.

“It’s the most important heavyweight fight this year by a mile.
“Alexander Povetkin can bowl in and become WBC mandatory just by winning this fight. Dillian Whyte has waited 1000 days.
“The winner of Fury against Wilder has to fight Dillian Whyte or Povetkin or vacate the belt.
“If they [Fury and Wilder] fight in December, we’ve always known that February is unlikely.

“We want to do that because I want to do the undisputed.
“By the way, if Tyson Fury doesn’t want to fight Dillian Whyte, I’ve already talked to AJ.
“AJ wants the WBC world title. He wants to be the WBC world champion. So whoever has the WBC world title, they’ll be fighting AJ.
“So if Fury wants to vacate and Dillian Whyte fights #1 or #2 for the title, he can fight AJ for the undisputed.”
Whyte has been the WBC’s No1 ranked challenger since 2017, but only last year earned his spot as mandatory after beating Oscar Rivas.

However, his status was revoked after an ‘adverse finding’ was found in his pre-fight drug test, and the WBC instead handed Fury a shot at Wilder’s belt.
Whyte was eventually cleared of any doping violations by United Kingdom Anti-Doping, but could only watch as the Gypsy King won the belt.
He had been promised a shot at the title by February next year, but Fury’s promoter Bob Arum revealed the Wilder trilogy could carry over to that date.

‘Iron’ Mike Tyson wanted to fight Michael Jordan at a dinner party, says boxing star’s former manager

MIKE TYSON once threatened to beat up Michael Jordan over their romantic history with the same woman, the boxer’s former manager has claimed.
The former Baddest Man on the Planet, 54, who will make his comeback against Roy Jones Jr on September 12.

Mike Tyson (right) was arguably at his peak when sidling up to Michael Jordan (left)
But ahead of his comeback, Rory Holloway has revealed what happened when Tyson when he attended a birthday dinner for Chicago Bears star Richard Dent in 1988.
Plenty of famous faces were at the December bash, including Jordan, boxing promoter Don King and Bears coach Mike Ditka.
Tyson was in his pomp with an undefeated record and unified title to his name –  it was a point in his life when he was also known for decadent and lavish partying.
But it was Jordan’s history with Robin Givens, Tyson’s ex-wife who the NBA legend had previously dated, that brought about the tension.

Holloway wrote in his book chronicling the boxer’s career, via BoxingScene: “Mike Tyson’s sitting there with his drink of choice, a Long Island Tea, and when he drinks his real feelings come out.
“I’m telling the server to water his drinks down because I see where this is going.

Jordan, it’s obvious he just wants to get up and run. He wants no part of this.”

“Mike stares across the table at Michael Jordan. He says, ‘Hey man, you think I’m stupid? I know you f***** with my b****.’
“Jordan looks like he just seen a ghost. ‘I know you messed with her,’ Mike says. ‘You can tell me.’

“Jordan, it’s obvious he just wants to get up and run. He wants no part of this. Mike turns to Ditka. ‘Man, you think somebody scared of you, all that racist s*** you been talking?’
“He says to Dent, ‘Y’all scared of this damn white man, Richard? He ain’t nobody. You gonna let him talk that way?’

Highest earning boxing fights ever from Mayweather with £678m for Pacquiao fight to Mike Tyson’s £146m

FLOYD MAYWEATHER has well and true lived up to his ‘Money’ nickname by dominating the list of richest boxing fights of all time.
The pay-per-view king divided opinions throughout his 50-0 career but delivered results in the ring – both with his performances and pay cheques.

    1

Floyd Mayweather dominates the list of richest boxing fights of all time
Heavyweight legend Mike Tyson was also well compensated through his up and down campaign – earning roughly £400m in total.
Here SunSport lists the highest grossing fights of all time.
    1. Mayweather vs Pacquiao, May 2015
Dubbed ‘Fight of The Century’, fans’ five-year wait for the two pound for pound kings to meet finally ended in 2015.
Unfortunately, despite the longwinded build-up the bout did not deliver in terms of excitement – but did so in revenue.

Mayweather’s tactical masterclass as he outpointed Pacquiao sold a record 4.6m PPVs and recorded the highest gate in history.
Their purses were also unprecedented, as the fight became the richest of all time.

    Mayweather vs Pacquiao breakdown

    PPV – £333million
    Gate – £58.7m –
    Mayweather’s purse: £223.5m
    Pacquiao’s purse: £122m
    Total: £678m

    2. Mayweather vs McGregor, August 2017
After it was announced UFC star McGregor would cross over to face Mayweather, it was instantly called ‘The Money Fight’.
And it lived up to its name as the figures show.

But it did not manage to surpass the PPV and gate record previously set two years before by Mayweather and Pacquiao.
Mayweather, who won in ten rounds, matched the purse he made against PacMan, while McGregor’s net worth skyrocketed after  his commendable boxing debut.

    Mayweather vs McGregor breakdown

    PPV – £325m
    Gate –  £44m
    Mayweather’s purse: £223.5m
    McGregor’s purse: £70m
    Total: £662.5m

    3. Mayweather vs Canelo, September 2013
When Canelo challenged the pound-for-pound No1, boxing fans tuned it to see if the puzzle to beating Mayweather could finally be solved.
But yet again Money’came out on top with a points decision and laughed all the way to the bank as the fight broke a then PPV record with 2.2m sales and £120m in revenue.
Despite over 16,000 packing into MGM Grand in Las Vegas, the gate for the headliner only brought in £20m.
Still it ranks as the third richest fight in boxing history, with Canelo going on to become a star of his own since the humbling defeat.

    Mayweather vs Canelo breakdown

    PPV – £120m
    Gate – £20m
    Mayweather’s purse:  £65m
    Canelo’s purse:  £9.7m
    Total: £214.7m

    4. Mayweather vs De La Hoya, May 2007
When Mayweather stepped up to light-middleweight to beat De La Hoya – it was the last time he would do so as the B-side fighter.
The win cemented the brash American – then known as ‘Pretty Boy Floyd’ – as the sport’s No1.
It initially broke box office records and Mayweather adopted the Money nickname afterwards.
Although a lucrative rematch failed to materialise, it was one of many mega-money paydays for Mayweather.

De La Hoya vs Mayweather breakdown

    PPV – £110m
    Gate – £15m
    De la Hoya’s purse: £42mMayweather’s purse: £20m
    Total: £187m

    5. Evander Holyfield vs Mike Tyson II, 1997
After Holyfield outboxed and stopped Tyson for the heavyweight title in 1996, it set up a lucrative rematch the following year.
But it would be remembered for all the wrong reasons, as Tyson twice bit Holyfield before being disqualified in round three.
Later known as the ‘Bite Fight’ it raked in 1,990,000 PPV buys – still the highest number bought for a heavyweight fight.
Their purses made up the highest combined figure for any fight until it was broken ten years later.

    Holyfield vs Tyson 2 breakdown

    PPV – £81.4m
    Gate – £11.6m
    Holyfield purse: £28.4m

Highly priced tickets finally managed to sell with 15,000 attending the fight and breaking box office records.
Despite selling less than Tyson’s rematch against Holyfield, it still raked in £90m in PPV sales.

Dillian Whyte rates the top five heavyweights in world and says he’s THIRD behind Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua

DILLIAN WHYTE believes Britain boasts the top three heavyweights in the world as he put himself third in his top five list.
The Body Snatcher – who has been waiting for a shot at the WBC title since 2017 – has just one blemish on his record out of his 29 fights.

    3

British boxer Dillian Whyte has won 28 out of his 29 professional fightsCredit: PA:Press Association
The 32-year-old suffered a defeat at the hands of rival Anthony Joshua in 2015, but since then has racked up 11 consecutive wins.
And the Jamaican-born fighter has established himself as one of the most feared men in the division thanks to epic victories against the likes of Derek Chisora, Joseph Parker and Lucas Browne.
Alexander Povetkin is the next man tasked with the challenge of stopping Whyte in his tracks with the duo locking horns on August 22 in the finale of ‘Fight Camp’.
Uploading a clip on his Instagram story, Whyte was asked by a fan who he believes are the best active heavyweights.

And he stated that he believes he is a better fighter than former world champions Deontay Wilder and Andy Ruiz Jr.
He said: “Top five heavyweights would have to be Tyson Fury, Joshua, me, Deontay Wilder probably and Ruiz.
    WHYTE NOISE
“Or one of those guys I guess.”
One of those boxers could be unbeaten Ukrainian star Oleksandr Usyk who has moved up from cruiserweight having become the undisputed champion.

Another potential fighter to challenge Ruiz Jr for fifth place could be Kubrat Pulev – who is set to challenge AJ for the IBF, WBA and WBO belts later this year.
Whyte recently signalled his intentions to swap boxing for UFC, with MMA monster Francis Ngannou a potential opponent.
Commenting on Whyte switching sports, former UFC middleweight champ Michael Bisping backed Whyte to take on Ngannou.

Rachel Ball beats red-hot favourite Shannon Courtenay as social worker breaks lockdown blues

RACHEL BALL produced the first feel-good story of boxing’s lockdown breakdown with a shock upset win for the social worker underdog.
Adam Booth-managed Shannon Courtenay was the red hot favourite when the super-bantamweight fight was announced but Ball was slowly backed once fans read up on her pedigree.

    4

Rachel Ball produced the first feel-good story of boxing’s lockdown breakdown with a shock upset win over Shannon Courtenay
The three-time kickboxing world champion started sensationally with a first round knockdown but Courtenay showed true grit and seemed to roar back into the lead.
But referee Howard Foster shocked the few staff inside Eddie Hearn’s back garden when he picked the away fighter 77-75.
The flame-haired marathon runner and down-to-earth girl could not beat back tears as she said: “Most of my fellow social workers, who I work with, only found out I box this afternoon so thanks to them for all their late support.
“I hardly ever cry but I am so happy, it means everything for me.

“It was a closer fight than I wanted but I got the win and I want to move on to big things now, I dream of a world title.”

    4

Adam Booth-managed Shannon Courtenay was the red-hot favourite

    4

Ball started sensationally with a first round knockdown
Courtenay started the opener well, jabbing to the body because towering Ball’s head was seven inches above hers.
The Watford woman backed Ball up toward the end of the first and landed a right hand from a crouched position.
But Ball connected with a peach of a left hook that dropped the 27-year-old who was struggling in the first fair fight of her career.

Courtenay, 27, to her total credit battled her way back into the contest in the second, stalking and tagging Ball around the ring.
Ball’s rangey one-twos scored again a few times at the start of the third but Courtenay remained relentless and marched her down, bobbing away from the jab and rising with hooks.
