Mike Tyson, 54, and Roy Jones Jr, 51, were forced to have extra health checks before bout was given OK due to their age

MIKE TYSON and opponent Roy Jones Jr had to undergo a rigorous health check ahead of their exhibition fight later this year.
The two boxing legends signed a deal to lace up the gloves for an eight-round charity bout.

It was scheduled for September 12, but that has been put back to November 28 to give both fighters more time to prepare.
The WBC has urged Tyson, 54, and Jones Jr, 51, to wear headgear and 18oz gloves for the fight amid fears for their safety.
And now Jones Jr has revealed that the California State Athletic Commission imposed a strict health check on both men.
Speaking to World Boxing News about a meeting he had with a boxing official, Jones Jr said: “He wanted to know if I was healthy if I had any illnesses. And was I feeling OK.

“He was more concerned about my health than anything.
“He said he didn’t want nobody leaving hurt. That we’ve both got a physical (exam) to make sure we were fit and healthy.
“They made us go through a couple of extra layers mainly because of our age, but that’s expected.
“I feel good at 51, probably just as good as I felt at 41.”

He better be ready, I’m coming full force
    Mike TysonOn Roy Jones Jr

The pair were due to box under strict orders, prohibiting knockouts and not having judges score the bout.
But now an unnamed but recognised sanctioning body will oversee the fight adopting more familiar rules.
Officials will be ringside scoring and the winner of the exhibition receive a special belt.
Tyson said: “Changing the date to November 28 will give more people the opportunity to see the biggest comeback in boxing history.
“This temporary inconvenience will last longer than Roy Jones Jr.
“He better be ready, I’m coming full force.”
World Boxing News reports WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman as saying: “Both Tyson and Jones should wear headgear that boxers use in sparring.
“They should also wear 16, or even 18-ounce gloves.

Manny Pacquiao urged to fight UFC icon Conor McGregor in last bout before retiring by Filipino boxing fans

MANNY PACQUIAO has been urged by Filipino fight fans to box UFC star Conor McGregor before he retires.
Pacquiao, 41, is eyeing two more bout before closing the curtain on his iconic career.

Manny Pacquiao has been urged by Filipino fight fans to box UFC star Conor McGregor before he retires

    3

McGregor revealed he received an offer to face Pacquiao in the past.
He this year signed for Paradigm Sports – the same management company as McGregor – fuelling talks of a fight between the pair.
And according to PacMan’s assistant Jayke Joson, his beloved fans back in the Philippines want the eight-division champion to face McGregor in his final fight.
Joyson told Manila Standard: “I have talked to nine out of 10 Filipinos and they really like UFC star Conor McGregor as the senator’s last opponent before he leaves professional boxing for good.
“I think we will know about Sen. Pacquiao’s plans in boxing as soon as the COVID-19 virus crisis is over.

“For the senator, this is not the time for a boxing fight. It’s really up to the senator when he will retire from boxing.
“But many Filipinos want our senator to take on McGregor because that will be a great fight.”

The fight would be the most lucrative ever to not feature Floyd Mayweather
McGregor – who retired from the UFC in early June – teased a return to boxing on Twitter.
The Irishman, who lost to Floyd Mayweather in 2017, even revealed he received an offer to face Pacquiao in the past.

McGregor told ESPN in January, before he beat Donald Cerrone: “There have been talks about the Manny fight.
“There was an offer made on that – just not yet, but it’s a possibility.”
Dana White admitted McGregor could make a retirement U-turn in 2021, but ruled out a fighting return before the year’s out.

Kell Brook in line for shock crack at Terence Crawford’s WBO world belt this November with Pacquiao also in talks

KELL BROOK is in line for a shock crack at welterweight world champion Terence Crawford in November.
The Brit only returned to the ring following a 14-month lay-off in February to knock out Mark DeLuca in Sheffield.

Welterweight world champion Terence Crawford will face either Kell Brook or Manny Pacquiao later this year

Special K could get that world title shot he is desperate for
Before that, the 33-year-old last fought in December 2018, but now could be set for a huge clash against pound-for-pound king Crawford.
Special K had labelled long-term rival Amir Khan a “waste of time” after losing faith in a fight between the pair materialising.
And WBO champion Crawford’s promoter Bob Arum revealed to The Athletic that Brook was being lined up as challenger.
The report adds that Manny Pacquiao also remains in talks but an agreement has not been reached.

Eight-division champ Pacquiao, 41, currently holds the WBA super welterweight title, winning it after inflicting Keith Thurman’s first ever loss in July last year.
And Arum had recently revealed that the Filipino was still Crawford’s still top target with Brook also in the running.

I talked to the Brook people today, and they know what the situation is. They will be back to us. They assured me that Brook has lost a lot of weight and is in tremendous condition
    Terence Crawford’s promoter Bob Arum

He told IFL TV: “Terence Crawford, we’re trying to put together a fight with Manny Pacquiao, which would be out of the United States.
“IF we’re about to do that, then that’s the fight I’m hoping to put together.

“But if we’re not able to do that because of the virus, which affects them, no matter how much oil they have.
“If we have to do it in The Bubble, we’re looking at Terence possibly fight Kell Brook.
“I talked to the Brook people today, and they know what the situation is. They will be back to us. They assured me that Brook has lost a lot of weight and is in tremendous condition.”
Crawford meanwhile became the undisputed lightweight champion in 2017 before moving up to claim the WBO welterweight strap a year later.

The 32-year-old has been chasing a fight against Pacquiao or WBC and IBF welterweight king Errol Spence Jr.
Yet he would be no stranger to facing British fighters should Brook be confirmed as his next opponent.
Crawford has previously beaten Ricky Burns before a bizarre sixth-round stoppage KO over Amir Khan.
Three-weight world champion Crawford was last out in December 2019 when he stopped Egidijus Kavaliauskas.
He was recently challeged by American compariot Gary Russell Jr, who claimed his camp sent a fight offer this week.
The latter said: “If the fight don’t happen, I want everybody to understand it didn’t happen because Crawford didn’t wanna make the fight.
“The ball’s in your court now, make something happen.”

Watch Mike Tyson spar and wrestle his 39st TIGER in shocking scenes as big cat plays with deflated basketball

THIS is the incredible moment Mike Tyson was captured wrestling his 39st TIGER.
Iron Mike infamously owned three Bengal tigers – which reportedly cost £48,000 each – with the huge cats adding to his iconic status.

The former heavyweight champion forged a special relationship with the jungle cats

The former ‘Baddest Person on the Planet’ forged a special relationship with the exotic cats – to the point that he’d take them for walks on leads and even play-fight with them.
And footage of Tyson sparring with his white Bengal tiger, Kenya, has resurfaced after he was interviewed as part of the ‘Inside Edition’ programme back in 1996.
The shocking scenes show the former heavyweight champion display his lightening reactions as he wrestles with the wild cat for a basketball it had in his mouth.
The regular tiger fights may explain why Tyson once offered a zookeeper £9,000 to let him tussle with a huge silverback gorilla.

Although Iron Mike recently admitted that he regretted owning three tigers and it was naive of him to think he could tame them because of how dangerous they were.
The boxing legend also recalled how he once had to pay a trespasser £200,000 after one of his exotic animals “f***** up” her hand so badly.
Tyson decided to buy the outlandish pets after sparking up a conversation with a car dealer during his three-year prison sentence, for a 1992 sexual assault conviction.
The 53-year-old is making an incredible comeback in an exhibition bout for charity.

He is set to face Roy Jones Jr with both legends set to come out of retirement for an intriguing fight.

Inside Sugar Ray Leonard’s luxury £42m LA home he couldn’t sell with a sunken pool, putting green and tennis court

    IT’S off the market!
Last year, Sugar Ray Leonard, 64, put his amazing mansion in Los Angels up for sale for an huge £42million.

Leonard recently took the home off the marketCredit: AFP
But SunSport has learned the boxing legend has now taken the listing down after failing to find any buyers.
The stunning gated property can be found in the affluent area of Pacific Palisades, near Santa Monica and Malibu.
And it has all the amenities a sports icon would want, including a pool, tennis court, as well as a putting green.
Sugar Ray, believed to be worth around £120m, has lived in the home with wife Bernadette for over 20 years now, and it appears they won’t leaving it anytime soon.

    IT’S HUGE
Built across 16,773-square-foot, there’s a seven bedroom main house, plus a two-storey guest house.
It was designed by famed architect to the stars Richard Landry, who counts the likes of Mark Wahlberg, Eddie Murphy, and Rod Stewart among his clientele.
Style-wise, it has a lot in common with a European villa with features like ivy-covered walls, full glass rectangular doors, and the stone walls throughout the property that were imported from Jerusalem.
And there’s six fireplaces, delivered from Europe, that keep the house cosy.

The living room has vaulted ceilings, arched windows, as well as a sheltered outer space.

In the sitting room you’ll find one of the fireplaces, as well as a balcony that looks out onto a view of the Santa Monica mountains.
As for the kitchen, that wouldn’t look out of place in a rustic farmhouse with its wooden beams – but, of course, modern appliances are installed.
    GOLF, ANYONE?
After he retired in the ring, Sugar Ray spent a lot of time on the golf course – and plays with an 18 handicap.
To improve his putting skills, he installed his own five-hole putting green on his estate.
And that’s not the end of the sporty theme.
Sugar Ray, who won titles at welterweight, light-middleweight, middleweight, super-middleweight and light-heavyweight, also has his own tennis court.
When he’s done working out, he can head down to his sunken pool for a dip, which is flanked by a spa, and some gorgeous landscaped gardens.

Highest earning boxing fights ever from Floyd Mayweather’s £678m fight with Pacquiao to Mike Tyson’s £146m

FLOYD MAYWEATHER has well and truly lived up to his ‘Money’ nickname by dominating the list of highest earning boxing fights of all time.
The pay-per-view king divided opinions throughout his 50-0 career but always delivered results in the ring – both in terms of performance and pay cheque.

    1

Floyd Mayweather dominates the list of richest boxing fights of all time
Heavyweight legend Mike Tyson was also well compensated through his up and down campaign – earning roughly £400m in total.
Here SunSport lists the highest grossing fights of all time.
    1. Mayweather vs Pacquiao, May 2015
Dubbed ‘Fight of The Century’, fans’ five-year wait for the two pound for pound kings to meet finally ended in 2015.
Unfortunately, despite the longwinded build-up the bout did not deliver in terms of excitement – but did so in revenue.

Mayweather’s tactical masterclass as he outpointed Pacquiao sold a record 4.6m PPVs and recorded the highest gate in history.
Their purses were also unprecedented, as the fight became the richest of all time.

    Mayweather vs Pacquiao breakdown

    PPV – £333million
    Gate – £58.7m –
    Mayweather’s purse: £223.5m
    Pacquiao’s purse: £122m
    Total: £678m

    2. Mayweather vs McGregor, August 2017
After it was announced UFC star McGregor would cross over to face Mayweather, it was instantly called ‘The Money Fight’.
And it lived up to its name as the figures show.

But it did not manage to surpass the PPV and gate record previously set two years before by Mayweather and Pacquiao.
Mayweather, who won in ten rounds, matched the purse he made against PacMan, while McGregor’s net worth skyrocketed after  his commendable boxing debut.

    Mayweather vs McGregor breakdown

    PPV – £325m
    Gate –  £44m
    Mayweather’s purse: £223.5m
    McGregor’s purse: £70m
    Total: £662.5m

    3. Mayweather vs Canelo, September 2013
When Canelo challenged the pound-for-pound No1, boxing fans tuned it to see if the puzzle to beating Mayweather could finally be solved.
But yet again Money’came out on top with a points decision and laughed all the way to the bank as the fight broke a then PPV record with 2.2m sales and £120m in revenue.
Despite over 16,000 packing into MGM Grand in Las Vegas, the gate for the headliner only brought in £20m.
Still it ranks as the third richest fight in boxing history, with Canelo going on to become a star of his own since the humbling defeat.

    Mayweather vs Canelo breakdown

    PPV – £120m
    Gate – £20m
    Mayweather’s purse:  £65m
    Canelo’s purse:  £9.7m
    Total: £214.7m

    4. Mayweather vs De La Hoya, May 2007
When Mayweather stepped up to light-middleweight to beat De La Hoya – it was the last time he would do so as the B-side fighter.
The win cemented the brash American – then known as ‘Pretty Boy Floyd’ – as the sport’s No1.
It initially broke box office records and Mayweather adopted the Money nickname afterwards.
Although a lucrative rematch failed to materialise, it was one of many mega-money paydays for Mayweather.

De La Hoya vs Mayweather breakdown

    PPV – £110m
    Gate – £15m
    De la Hoya’s purse: £42mMayweather’s purse: £20m
    Total: £187m

    5. Evander Holyfield vs Mike Tyson II, 1997
After Holyfield outboxed and stopped Tyson for the heavyweight title in 1996, it set up a lucrative rematch the following year.
But it would be remembered for all the wrong reasons, as Tyson twice bit Holyfield before being disqualified in round three.
Later known as the ‘Bite Fight’ it raked in 1,990,000 PPV buys – still the highest number bought for a heavyweight fight.
Their purses made up the highest combined figure for any fight until it was broken ten years later.

    Holyfield vs Tyson 2 breakdown

    PPV – £81.4m
    Gate – £11.6m
    Holyfield purse: £28.4m
    Tyson purse: £24.3m

Lewis and Tyson finally settled the score in 2002 – but it came too late.
Tyson was a fading heavyweight while Lewis reigned as the undisputed champion, going on to win in round eight.
Highly priced tickets finally managed to sell with 15,000 attending the fight and breaking box office records.
Despite selling less than Tyson’s rematch against Holyfield, it still raked in £90m in PPV sales.

    Lewis vs Tyson breakdown

Daniel Dubois scrambling around for new fight just days away from ring return after Erik Pfeifer pulls out

DANIEL DUBOIS is reportedly searching for a new opponent ahead of his August 29 outing after Erik Pfeifer pulled out of the bout.

According to The Athletic’s Mike Coppinger, Pfeifer will not be involved in the scheduled clash that was due to take place at the BT Sport Studio.
He tweeted: “Heavyweight prospect Daniel Dubois needs a new opponent for his Aug 29 tune-up ahead of his scheduled fall clash with Joe Joyce.
“He was slated to fight Erik Pfeifer, who withdrew.”

It remains unclear as to why the 33-year-old German has pulled out of his bout against Dubois.
Dubois is keen to get some rounds in before his expected October 24 domestic dust-up against Joe Joyce.
And the 22-year-old has even stated he is ready to knock out Dillian Whyte should he beat Joyce.
But he must first find an opponent for next weekend, with fans taking to social media to say who they want him in with.

Anthony Joshua will fight Dillian Whyte before Tyson Fury in unification bout if Gypsy King dodges WBC mandatory defence

ANTHONY JOSHUA will fight Dillian Whyte before Tyson Fury if the Gypsy King dodges his WBC mandatory defence.
The WBC said the winner of Fury’s third fight against Deontay Wilder must make a mandatory defence against the holder of the diamond belt, currently Whyte.

But Whyte could lose his world title shot with defeat to Alexander Povetkin in Eddie Hearn’s final fight camp on Saturday.
And if Fury prevails against The Bronze Bomber in their contractually-obliged trilogy fight, there is a good chance he could side-step a title fight with Whyte.
However, Hearn warned the Gypsy King any such move would NOT help him secure a big-money showpiece with Joshua.
And now the promoter has confirmed that IF Fury gives up his belt – AJ will take on his old foe Whyte for the chance to unify the division.

Hearn told Sky Sports: “All Joshua wants is the WBC title.
“If Fury does not want to fight Whyte, then Whyte will be elevated to champion from ‘interim’ champion.
“What will happen? Joshua will fight Whyte straight away for the undisputed championship.”
Joshua and Whyte have clashed twice before and the Jamaica-born fighter has been the WBC’s No1 ranked challenger since 2017 but only last year became mandatory.
