Amir Khan calls out Oscar De La Hoya, 47, for blockbuster fight as boxing legend considers comeback

AMIR KHAN has teased a potential bout against Oscar De La Hoya as he called out the boxing legend on social media.
The 33-year-old – who hasn’t fought since he knocked out Billy Dib in June 2019 – posted a picture of himself and the 1992 Olympic gold medallist, 42, on Twitter.

Captioning the old image of the pair together, the British star said: “I heard @OscarDeLaHoya is thinking of making a comeback.
“Oscar De La Hoya vs Amir Khan.”
Fans were quick to poke fun at the potential match-up, as one quipped: “Fight @SpecialKBrook if you want to make a name for yourself.”
Another said: “Come on, dude. Are you serious? Calling out someone that retired 11 years ago?”

A third added: “Bro he will still knock you out, don’t even think about it.”
    IT KHAN HAPPEN
De La Hoya hung up his gloves in April 2009 following his December 2008 defeat at the hands of Manny Pacquiao.
But the Golden Boy – who won 11 world titles in six weight classes – revealed in June he is considering returning to the ring.
And he failed to rule out a blockbuster bout against Mexican legend Saul Alvarez, while Conor McGregor is also another potential option.

The 39-6 boxer is known to be a huge fan of Khan’s talents, having lauded his bravery, speed and footwork before his 2016 clash against Canelo.

Speaking at the time, De La Hoya said: “He’s a fighter who throws a lot of combinations. He’s a fast fighter, he has great footwork.
“But one thing about Amir Khan is he’s sometimes a little too brave for his own good. People might say that that’s been his Achilles’ heel.
“That’s been his downfall in some of the fights he’s been involved in.”

Evander Holyfield looks in stunning shape but 57-year-old showing his age with slow hand speed as he trains for return

EVANDER HOLYFIELD continues to train for a mega boxing comeback and looks in stunning shape at the age of 57.
A return to the ring for charity is on the American icon’s mind, over nine years after his last fight.

The Real Deal looked lean and mean as he showed off his form in a recent Instagram video.
Throwing a few punches, working on his feet movement and practising his stance, the veteran naturally appeared a tad sluggish in the clip.
Holyfield captioned the post: “Morning training. Sitting at 215lbs right where I want to be.”
Having missed out on fighting Mike Tyson, who will face Roy Jones Jr later this year, Holyfield is looking for an opponent in his own comeback.

Training continues for the former unified heavyweight king with Wladimir Klitschko recently joining him in the gym.
That includes gruelling beach runs and hill climbs as he looks to build up his already-impressive fitness levels.

Many social media fans of the ex-boxer praised his gusto in the workout but some felt he was not necessarily ready for a full-on fight.
One Instagram user commented: “I’m so sorry but you are still slow.”

Tony warned: “As much as I always wanted Tyson-Holyfield 3, it would be a bad idea for you to do it now.”
While Zach wrote: “Gotta respect the work.”

Dillian Whyte swaps £20m private jet for two motorhomes at Fight Camp… to keep him away from rival Aleksandr Povetkin

DILLIAN WHYTE has swapped his private Portuguese gym and £20million jet for two caravans in an Essex car park ahead of Saturday’s clash with Alexander Povetkin.
The Brixton 32-year-old has had to switch from sun-kissed topless training sessions and locally-caught fish dinners to a Winnebago in the Brentwood Holiday Inn and a cotton bud up the nose.

    9

Jet, set, go – Dillian Whyte has flown into a different lifestyle as he builds up to Saturday’s fight with Alexander Povetkin

Briton boxer Dillian Whyte will go from luxury to motorhome after arriving at Southend airport for his heavyweight bout

    9

The Body Snatcher left Faro airport at 10am on Tuesday – leaving behind his beloved yet terrifying dogs Hades and Zeus – and helped unload his own bags at Southend airport just after lunchtime.
SunSport was first on the tarmac to see the heavyweight bruiser land the 2016 Embraer Legacy 500 and swap his designer sunglasses for a flat cap and surgical mask once the local temperature drop hit home.
Two sprawling Crusader motorhomes are now parked up just off the M25, one for Whyte to as his personal space for sleeping and eating ahead of the pay-per-view showdown.
The other will be his back-up base where his food will be prepared and interviews held.

Eddie Hearn’s military-run operation means even the 18st powerhouse is not allowed to swan around the budget bolthole until his COVID-19 test comes back all clear on Wednesday morning, after his travel was given the go-ahead as an athlete exemption.
And it remains to be seen whether the no-nonsense banger – with the ‘Maximum Violence’ catchphrase – will be joining in with the friendly cricket match some of Hearn’s Matchroom staff have planned.

I’m not worried about Povetkin, I’m worried about Whyte as he told me: ‘If I see him in my face on fight week in that hotel, I can’t be responsible for my actions’.
    Promoter Eddie Hearn

Whyte and 40-year-old Povetkin got on swimmingly when they last met at their Manchester press conference in early March.
They navigated around the language barrier by bumping fists and swapping personalised training kit.

But Hearn expects his second-favourite heavyweight to be a different beast now he’s sharing a cage with his rival and the clock is ticking down to go-time.
Hearn said: “Whyte is a different kettle of fish. If we don’t separate these guys they will be rolling down the hill towards the A12.
“We need to make sure those two are separated and segregated.
“I’m not worried about Povetkin, I’m worried about Whyte because he has already told me: ‘If I see this guy in my face on fight week in that hotel, I can’t be responsible for my actions’.

“So we need to make sure that we don’t have issues. Keep them apart to make sure the fight goes ahead”.
Sky Sports are hoping WBA, IBF and WBO king AJ – who shares a love-hate relationship and a 1-1 fight record with Whyte from the amateurs and pros – will be able to contribute to the broadcast.
It’s unlikely the Watford icon will come through the quarantine bubble to commentate in person and Hearn admits that might also might be in the best interests of the bout inside the ring on Saturday.
Hearn added: “The corridors in this hotel are not really big enough to fit one heavyweight down, let alone two.
“AJ and Dillian in the same room is never a good thing. They have great respect for each other but there is always that spark.”

    9

Blue’s the daddy – Dillian Whyte enjoys the sun in matching tracksuit bottoms and trainers before he moves to the Brentwood Holiday InnCredit: NHPIX
Whyte weighed a career heavyweight 19st 5lbs when he last boxed on the Joshua vs Andy Ruiz rematch card in Saudi Arabia.
Depression over a Ukad doping case he won, combined with a stint on Celebrity Masterchef, saw him balloon up in bulk.
But while he has remained keen on cooking up a storm in the kitchen in Portugal, his training sessions have helped him reach a deadlift PB of 350kg and a return to his powerful best.
Whyte was training around 10 times a week at the start of his camp and, before it tapered down to prevent injury, he had ramped that up to around 18 sessions weekly.
Middleweight training partners like John Harding Jr and Oliver Edwards were taken out specifically to help with the scorching Saturday sprint sessions.
And, when travel restrictions to Portugal were relaxed, heavyweight sparring in the shape of Alen Babic – who Whyte also managers – and Englishman Ellis Machin were flown out for the hardest of rounds.
Whyte is risking his mandatory shot at the iconic WBC belt currently around Tyson Fury’s waist by taking this meeting with the Vladimir Putin-backed Olympic champion.

Mike Tyson boxing comeback IN DOUBT as Roy Jones Jr threatens to pull out in row over delay

ROY JONES JR has threatened to pull OUT of Mike Tyson’s comeback fight after it was delayed until November.
The pair signed to an eight-round exhibition bout to be held on September 12.

    2

Roy Jones Jr has threatened to pull out of Mike Tyson’s comeback fight following a row over the delay

    2

Tyson will now make his comeback on November 28
But social media app Triller, who have the pay-per-view rights for the spectacle, announced it would be postponed 11 weeks to November 28.
And now Jones, 51, has taken legal action and warned if he is not compensated for earnings lost then he could walk away from the event.
He told the Daily Mail: “We’re trying to figure something out, my lawyers is (sic) talking with their lawyers, trying to figure out ways to make it a better situation so that I can compensated for it, that is more beneficial for me to do.’
“If they don’t make it make sense, it (the fight) would be off.

“Why would I change the date and mess up the rest of my year when I agreed to September 12.”
The fight was due to go behind closed doors, with an unnamed but recognised sanctioning body overseeing the bout.

But the delay brought up suggestions organisers are hoping fans will be allowed back into venues to bring in ticket sales.
Jones added: “They said they wanted to get a crowd, if you want to get a crowd, that’s a different type of money.

“If you want a big event, that’s a different type of money.”
Tyson, 54, last fought 15 years ago after announcing retirement in 2005.
Jones, a four-division champion, on the other hand last boxed in 2018 but insisted his income now comes from businesses outside the ring.
And those are now being affected after his ring return was pushed back.

If they don’t make it make sense, it (the fight) would be off.
    Roy Jones Jr

Jones explained: “I’ve had to cancel other stuff to be out here, it’s upset my calendar, I’ve got to change things.
“That’s why we have to table bulls*** now. That’s the biggest issue, I’m not a full time boxer anymore so I do other things to make an income.
“If I can’t do other things then I should be compensated for that, because it changes the schematics. It’s not acceptable.”
Tyson has been training since March ahead of his sensational comeback, but it was only announced in July that he would be facing Jones.
The 51-year-old American does admit the new date could benefit him as it allows more time to prepare.

Canelo Alvarez given green-light to fight Avni Yildirim for vacant super-middleweight title after WBC vote in his favour

CANELO ALVAREZ has been given the green-light to challenge for the vacant super-middleweight title after the WBC voted in his favour.
The green and gold strap is up for grabs after David Benavidez, 23, failed to make weight in his last fight and was penalised.

    3

Canelo has been given the green-light to challenge for the vacant super-middleweight title

    3

The WBC voted in Canelo’s favour to face Avni Yildirim
Avni Yildirim – who was beaten by Chris Eubank Jr in 2017 – was next in line for the belt.
Canelo, Callum Smith, Billy Joe Saunders and Jason Quigley all lobbied to face the Turk.
But it has been revealed the WBC voted in a landslide for Mexican Canelo, 29, who is still searching for his next opponent.
Alvarez won the WBO light-heavyweight crown against Sergey Kovalev last November but was already eyeing a move to 168lb.

He was due to face WBO champion Saunders, 30, in the summer until the coronavirus pandemic KO’d the clash.

    3

WBA champ Smith, 30, then emerged as a frontrunner to box the Mexican, after Eddie Hearn confirmed talks.
But with the WBC belt now stripped from Benavidez, Canelo could instead face 29-year-old Yildirim.
Alvarez, who still holds two belts at middleweight, plotted a move back down to super-middle to cement his place as a four-division champ.

He won the WBA’s ‘Regular’ title against Rocky Fielding in 2018.
After his comeback fight, which could take place behind closed doors, Canelo is in line to face rival Gennady Golovkin in a trilogy bout.

Charlo reckons he is top of the pile to welcome Mayweather back to the ring
He did made a brief cameo a year later, beating featherweight kickboxer Tenshin Nasukawa in Japan in an exhibition bout.
The 43-year-old confirmed plans to fight again and held talks with UFC president Dana White.
WBC super-welterweight champion Charlo, 30, reckons he is top of the pile to welcome Mayweather back to the ring.
He said: “If Floyd wants to come back then best believe he’s going to fight me first.

“If he wants to fight a boxer and not an MMA fighter though. If he wants to fight a boxer and he wants a hard fight, then call me.”

SunSport revealed Mayweather held talks with RIZIN in Tokyo to again box in an exhibition – but the coronavirus pandemic has restricted him from travelling.
White also believes the retired legend could be back in action by 2021, despite ruling out a rematch with 32-year-old McGregor.
The American boasted how he could earn £75m from exhibition bouts and previously appeared open to facing The Notorious again or boxing Khabib Nurmagomedov.

And despite Charlo’s confidence in facing the former box office king, Mayweather insisted he would not fight an active champion again.
