Deontay Wilder is ‘one of the worst boxers around’ and Tyson Fury should focus on Anthony Joshua, says raging Nigel Benn

NIGEL BENN has labelled Deontay Wilder “rubbish” ahead of the heavyweight’s trilogy fight against Tyson Fury.
The American was obliterated by Fury in their memorable February rematch, which ended after seven rounds of Gypsy King domination.

A third contest between the pair is set for later this year in Las Vegas.
But British veteran Benn, who won world titles in two divisions, reckons Fury is better suited to focusing on Anthony Joshua and Dillian Whyte.
The 56-year-old told Press Box PR: “I don’t know why Fury is having a third fight with Wilder.
“He needs fresh blood and that blood is Anthony Joshua or Dillian Whyte. ‍

‍”He beat Wilder easily, it’s a waste of time. Wilder has only got a puncher’s chance.
“He can’t outbox Fury, Fury is like a magician when it comes to movement. He holds Wilder’s card, he can see his punches coming.

“Wilder is like a windmill, he’s rubbish, he’s one of the worst boxers going.”
On Saturday night, Whyte continues his push towards a world title fight with a match-up against Alexander Povetkin.

Joshua, meanwhile, is still waiting on a new date for his clash with Kubrat Pulev before turning his attention to a two-fight deal with Fury.
    YOU’RE JO-KING
With boxing comebacks all the rage, Benn attempted his own return to the ring before suffering a shoulder injury last year.
Later this year will also see Mike Tyson, 54, pull on his gloves for a meeting with Roy Jones Jr, 51.
And Benn says he approached Jones Jr about a possible comeback, only to be turned down by the American.

EDDIE HEARN thrilled his Fight Camp crew with a spot of karaoke – belting out a brilliant rendition of Ain’t No Sunshine ahead of Dillian Whyte’s clash with Alexander Povetkin.
The Matchroom promoter, 41, is gearing up for his final Fight Camp with a star-studded fight.

Eddie Hearn belting out a rendition of Bill Withers’ 1971 hit Ain’t No Sunshine
And Hearn provided the entertainment on the eve of the showdown by singing 1971 Bill Withers hit Ain’t No Sunshine superbly.
Hearn revealed his song choice was a reflection on the enforced coronavirus lockdown.
Ironically, the promoter has done well during lockdown – turning his former home in Brentwood into Fight Camp HQ, for four weeks of incredible events.
Ahead of his crooning session, Hearn revealed: “I’m going to sing a song that represents the pain and suffering we suffered under lockdown without boxing, Ain’t No Sunshine.”

Despite the raging success of Fight Camp, Hearn refused to extend its run beyond this weekend.
He did, however, hint at a return next year.
But for now, it will be all eyes on Whyte and Povetkin as they prepare to headline the final Saturday event.
And Hearn confirmed the winner of that fight WILL become the official WBC heavyweight challenger.

That means Whyte or Povetkin will face the winner of Tyson Fury vs Deontay Wilder III.
Ahead of their clash, Povetkin told “scared” rival Dillian Whyte to stop hiding in his caravan.

Floyd Mayweather wants to train Deontay Wilder and promises he will beat Tyson Fury in trilogy bout

FLOYD MAYWEATHER insisted Deontay Wilder can beat Tyson Fury – as long as he trains the Bronze Bomber.
Fury, 31, totally dominated Wilder, 34, in Las Vegas at the end of February to break the American’s 43-fight unbeaten run and five-year reign as WBC king.

The Bronze Bomber was twice floored before assistant coach Mark Breland threw the towel in during round seven to bring the one-sided beating to an end.
Now Wilder has officially invoked his immediate rematch clause with Fury, with the bout set for July in the US.
During a Q&A on his UK tour, retired Mayweather offered to help his countryman prepare for the trilogy, as he said: “If I train him. If I train him I can teach him how to win.”
‘Money’ supported Wilder after he suffered his first professional defeat.

The 43-year-old posted online: “Win, Lose or Draw…. Deontay @BronzeBomber is our brother that has accomplished many triumphs and as a community we should all uplift and support him throughout it all.
“No matter what, you’re still a winner in my eyes, King!”

Mayweather was ringside to watch Wilder escape with a draw against Fury in their first fight, a result said to have “disgusted” the boxing legend.
But Wilder insisted the multi-millionaire was jealous of him after the heavyweight thriller in Los Angeles – which was co-promoted by Mayweather Promotions.

He told TMZ Sports: “The world loved it, and I don’t think he [Mayweather] liked that though. He wants all the attention on him, and it’s sad that it’s like that.”
“I’m coming, and it’s a lot of fighters that’s jealous of me for no reason. I’ve never said nothing bad about no one, I’ve always wished them well.”
Before Wilder’s Vegas rematch with Fury, the Bronze Bomber explained to BoxingScene that Mayweather never supported him as America’s next African-American star.

Dillian Whyte shares throwback clip of brutal MMA KO amid feud with UFC aces Francis Ngannou and Stipe Miocic

DILLIAN WHYTE posted a throwback video of his savage MMA knockout as his feud with UFC duo Francis Ngannou and Stipe Miocic heated up.
The Body Snatcher, 32, may have made a name for himself inside the boxing ring over the last decade with just one defeat from his 28 pro fights.

But before that he had a brief stint in kickboxing and mixed martial arts.
As well as becoming British and European kickboxing champion with a 20-1 record, Whyte also had one pro MMA fight.
And it lasted just 12 seconds.
He demolished Mark Stroud with a stunning KO punch at the Ultimate Challenge MMA 1: Bad Breed event in December 2008.

Sharing the clip on his Instagram page, the Brixton star wrote: “Have been laying em out from an early age across all different style who want it can get it simple.”

Writing exclusively for SunSport he revealed he has plans to conquer the UFC world – and has already called out Miocic and Ngannou.
He said: “Reigning WBC and UFC heavyweight champion of the world has a nice ring to it.
“I have not trained in kickboxing or MMA for a while but, for me, it is like riding a bike.

“Once I knock off some of the rust, my instincts come rushing back and I am ready to dominate again.
“The heavyweight guys over there, champion Stipe Miocic and Francis Ngannou, are elite and I would have to work on my grappling and wrestling.
“But I know, standing up and boxing in 4oz gloves, I could knock ANY of their top-ten heavyweights out.
“I would need time to get my MMA conditioning back because it is totally different to boxing where, if you are clever, you can take time in the three minute rounds.

“The guys at the top, like Miocic and Ngannou, come from boxing but weren’t good enough to make it as pro boxers — as they could have made more money — they would usually want to stand up.”

Tyson Fury tipped to vacate WBC heavyweight belt to avoid Dillian Whyte… and line up Anthony Joshua showdown

TYSON FURY has been tipped to vacate his WBC belt to swerve a mandatory defence against Dillian Whyte and instead fight Anthony Joshua.
The Gypsy King, 31, won the title in February beating Deontay Wilder, 34, and will immediately defend it against the American.

    4

Dillian Whyte is the WBC mandatory challenger for Tyson Fury’s belt Credit: News Group Newspapers Ltd

    4

If Fury beats Deontay Wilder he is mandated to face Whyte
Should he beat Wilder again, the WBC confirmed Whyte, 32, will be next in line for a shot at the strap – as long as he also gets past 40-year-old Alexander Povetkin.
It would lead to the highly-anticipated, undisputed title decider against Joshua, 30, facing further delays.
But ex-world champion Johnny Nelson predicted Fury will drop the belt to ensure his mega-fight with AJ gets over the line.
Nelson told Sky Sports: “I personally think – and I don’t mind if I’m wrong – I can personally see Fury giving up the belt and Dillian fighting somebody else for it.

“Vacating it, because Fury will have other, if not better options, but again there is just something telling me that I can see him vacating the belt.”
Fury’s UK promoter Frank Warren has already admitted the unbeaten heavyweight could lose the belt, if it meant fighting Joshua.
But Hearn – who promotes AJ and Whyte – insisted the unified champion is only interested in winning all four titles and reigning as undisputed king.
Meaning if Fury opts against facing his mandatory challenger, Joshua could rematch Whyte for the vacant WBC crown.

    4

Hearn told iFL TV,: “People said from Fury’s team, ‘We are not fighting Dillian Whyte.
“So I said, ‘If you don’t fight Dillian Whyte, you’re going to be stripped of your world title.’
“And then I said, by the way, Anthony Joshua wants to win the WBC world title because he wants to win all the belts. He wants to be undisputed.’
“So if Tyson Fury vacates the belt, then AJ can’t win the WBC belt. So, therefore, he’ll fight Dillian Whyte for the WBC belt.”
Another scenario would see Fury be elevated to the WBC ‘Franchise’ champion, which carries no mandatory duties.
But the title is frowned upon with the likes of Canelo Alvarez, 29, and Vasiliy Lomachenko, 32, suffering bestowed honours.
And Whyte believes Fury is “begging” the WBC to do the same to him so they avoid fighting.
