Watch Povetkin’s ko punch on Dillian Whyte which ended 1,000-day heavyweight glory dream and silenced Fight Camp

HERE is the punch which shattered Dillian Whyte’s 1,000-day dream of being world heavyweight champion.
It took barely 15 minutes for the Body Snatcher’s hopes to lay in tatters thanks to Alexander Povetkin’s perfect fifth-round upper cut.

The left was known as the Russian’s most powerful shot but the uppercut met Whyte’s head with such power that it knocked him into a different stratosphere.
It left Brixton’s finest on the canvas and made a mockery of the much-talked about fight camp in Portugal Whyte had put himself through.
Whyte had hoped for a ‘Battle of Britain’ with Anthony Joshua or Tyson Fury but that looks like a mission impossible now.
But AJ, who suffered his own shock defeat against roly-poly Mexican Andy Rujiz Jr in 2019, had kind words for his beaten old foe afterwards.

He told BBC 5 Live: “I believe Dillian is a great fighter – it’s just a short blip in his career.”
Joshua knows all about Povetkin having had his own troubles against the Russian when he got his nose broken in the first round before coming through to win in the seventh.

Whyte’s promoter Eddie Hearn revealed there is a clause to set up a rematch with the Russian – and Whyte stormed an interview with him to demand one in December straight after his loss.

And he was quick to acknowledge that boxing, unlike so many other sports, is so different as one punch can change absolutely everything.
Hearn told Sky Sports: “There is a rematch clause. The first thing Dillian said to me was, ‘get me that rematch, get me that rematch’.
“It was a heavy knockdown so he will have to get his rest.
“But this is the drama of the sport we love and heavyweight boxing – one punch completely changed the fight.”
That means Whyte can avenge this defeat in December potentially.
But for now though it gives the 40-year-old Russian the chance to become a major player in the fight world.
He will no doubt try to take on the likes of Tyson Fury, Joshua and Deontay Wilder over the next two years.
Fight fans were quick to slam Whyte, who faces huge questions over his ability to take a big punch.

Tegsy said: “Whyte got owned in his own backyard, not so cocky now!”
And Tom Rycroft posted: “Whyte knocked into a new dimension…”
Neil Wright wrote: “Knocked him into the bank holiday weekend.”
Renowned boxing coach Dominic Ingle had words of sympathy for Whyte.
He posted: “Sickening for Dillian Whyte tonight, he has come through so much adversity in his career only for this to happen.
“Criminal the way he was treated as mandatory challenger for the World Title all this time.
And boxer Anthony Yarde said: “@DillianWhyte keep your head up bro. Look how much you have achieved and will continue to achieve.”
Titus Crow said: “Lol I just tweeted about a good win against a diminished Povetkin sent..the. Boom! rip the bodysnatcher.”

Anthony Joshua claims Whyte could have taken out Povetkin in round three but lacked killer instinct to ‘smell blood’

ANTHONY JOSHUA claims Dillian Whyte should have ‘smelt blood’ and dispatched Alexander Povetkin in the third round – after KOing him twice.
AJ fears the Body Snatcher lacked the killer instinct needed to get rid of the Russian.

The Brixton boxer had put Povetkin down twice in the opening rounds of this WBC interim diamond belt clash.
But when the Londoner failed to hammer home his advantage in rounds three and four against the dazed Russian, it came back to haunt him.
Povetkin recovered and unleashed a sledgehammer of a left upper cut which knocked Whyte sparko.
Joshua, set to face Kubrat Pulev in December, told Sky Sports: “Does Dillian still have that instinct in him?

“Because the fight was called maximum violence.
“When he had the opportunity to take him out, I wanted to see that maximum violence.
“That’s why for me, when I smell blood, I go in there to take someone out, but sometimes you can get caught in the exchange.
“But at the end of the day, if you leave it a round or two later, as we’ve seen there anything can happen.

“The tactics go out the window. You’ve just got to remember this is a fight, you’ve got to take the man out and move on to the next.”
But Joshua had predicted pre-fight that Povetkin would take out the Body Snatcher.

Whyte’s promoter Eddie Hearn revealed AJ had tipped the Russian.
He said: “He actually, I think, believes that Alexander Povetkin will win on Saturday. I had a conversation with him the other day.
“This is a massive banana skin fight for Dillian Whyte.”
AJ himself knows all about coming back from adversity, which Whyte must do now.
The 2012 Olympic champ suffered a shock defeat to rank outsider Andy Ruiz Jr in 2019.
But he won the rematch in December convincingly.

BOXING legend Manny Pacquiao had to be told to self-isolate in his £7million mansion by neighbours after partying with a coronavirus victim.
Koko Pimentel, a Filipino senator and leading figure in the country’s ruling party, was seen with the 41-year-old at his residence in the Manila borough of Makati.

The party took place in the early weeks of the pandemic and Pimentel began experiencing symptoms ten days later, taking a test that came back positive.
Given the illness is thought to carry up to a 14-day incubation period, local residents were worried that Pacquiao could spread it further.
A letter sent to the eight-division world champion, now also a senator in the Philippines, instructed him and his family to self-isolate.
Pacquiao’s property on the outskirts of the capital city has been his home since 2012, when he bought it for £7m.

The amazing mansion, which features a tennis court, pool and large dining room, is also home to his wife Jinkee and their five children.
The residents’ letter told the boxer: “Many of your colleagues in Senate have been identified to be Covid-19 positive. Therefore, you have to be quarantined at your own house.

Tyson Fury hails Povetkin after shock knockout of Dillian Whyte as Russian stuns Brit with wonder punch at age of 40

TYSON FURY took to Twitter to hail 40-year-old Alexander Povetkin after his shock win over Dillian Whyte – and rub the Londoner’s nose in it.
Whyte’s WBC world heavyweight title hopes went up in smoke as he was left stunned by the Russian’s impressive victory.

A wonder punch from Povetkin left the Brit on the canvas in only the fifth round in this WBC interim and diamond belt contest, making sure the eight-year age difference counted for nothing against the much younger man.
And the Gypsy King tweeted an image of the Russian with the words: “40 and proud.”

    3

Whyte had talked up meeting Fury or Anthony Joshua after beating Povetkin beforehand.
The 32-year-old Body Snatcher demanded a rematch after the fight.

This is set to go ahead in December after his promoter Eddie Hearn revealed there was a clause in the fight with Povetkin.
Povetkin, meanwhile, now has the opportunity to make a play for big-money bouts with Fury, AJ and Bronze Bomber Deontay Wilder over the next two years.

It was not quite the stunner which made roly-poly Mexican Andy Ruiz Jr a quick millionaire after he KO’d Joshua in 2019.
But this bad night in Brentwood has certainly left Whyte with a worrying future.

He had hoped to meet Joshua after staining the Watford man’s career with an early victory.

Joshua, 30, hopes to get a fight this year as he looks to meet Fury in 2021.
The 32-year-old Mancunian is still set to complete his trilogy with Wilder next year but will also have a warm-up bout this year.
