Boxer Umar Sadiq rushed to hospital ‘coughing up blood’ after 12th round defeat to Fyodor Chudinov in Russia

BRITISH boxer Umar Sadiq was rushed to hospital following his defeat to Fyodor Chudinov.
The 32-year-old needed oxygen and started to “cough up blood” after the fight in Khimki, near Moscow.

Sadiq was disorientated after the WBA gold belt showdown.
According to Russian source TASS, he fell ill during routine doping checks.
An ambulance was called as the super middleweight began to “cough up blood”.
Frank Warren posted a picture of the brave Brit conscious in a hospital bed alongside the judges’ scorecards – which showed Sadiq narrowly losing on points.

The promoter tweeted: “Umar Sadiq proved last night that he can mix it beyond British level.
“He can hold his head up high with that performance and we can’t wait to have him back on these shores.”
Sadiq, who entered the bout with 10 wins under his belt, took the fight against Chudinov at short notice.
Speaking from his hotel room in Russia this week, he admitted preparations for the fight had been “very rushed”.

He told the Mirror: “If I wasn’t confident of winning I wouldn’t be out here because let’s face, I didn’t have to take the fight did I?
“As much as I’m the one getting in the ring, it’s still a team effort and I’ve got great people around me which is why I say ‘we’. Together, we’re here to do the business.

“It’s all been very rushed, sudden and out of nowhere but when you stay ready then you’re ready to grab opportunities like this by the horns and that’s what I’m doing.
“Chudinov, right now, as we speak is third in line with the WBA and with all the governing bodies he’s ranked in the top five or the top six.
“I know that I will literally be one of the top middleweights in the world after Friday night as long as I get the job so it’s a massive opportunity.”

Anthony Yarde returns with three domestic clashes after losing dad and nan in heartbreaking lockdown

ANTHONY YARDE suffered a heartbreaking Covid-19 lockdown — but is set to burst back on to the scene with a hat-trick of domestic clashes.
The light-heavyweight, 29, lost his father and nan to the pandemic but is ready to make his ring return on Saturday night at the BT Sport studios in Stratford.

    2

The East Londoner, known as the Beast from the East, leapfrogged any serious home-grown grudge battle — and English or British title — before going into last year’s painfully close world title loss to Sergey Kovalev.
But the ever-changing travel restrictions and quarantine rules mean Yarde is now eyeing up a trio of all-British bouts that could define his career.
Ahead of the first clash with Scunthorpe hard-man Dec Spelman, Yarde said: “It’s funny how things have worked out, I don’t really look at where my opponents come from but depending on how the world moves, there are big domestic fights here for me now.
“Dec Spelman is first and Lyndon Arthur will come next hopefully when fans are allowed back in arenas.

“And the fight with Joshua Buatsi is one that everyone in British boxing is already talking about but deserves to have at least one world title on the line and headline a packed British arena or stadium.
“The majority of my opponents have been foreign, in order to climb the right rankings, and coming up against other English speakers definitely adds an edge and some intrigue that I am looking forward to.”
The Londoner’s giggle-filled training sessions have drawn criticism — but he is adamant he will not change things.
Yarde said: “Walking around with a scowl and growling doesn’t make you tough or win you fights but being yourself definitely helps.”

Spelman has never been stopped and the part-time builder appears to have a breeze-block chin.
But Yarde said: “I keep hearing all about his chin, like it is something special, but it will be made of the same bone, sinew and tissue as everyone else’s.
“Let’s see how it holds up once I land on it — because I can guarantee he has never been hit by someone like me.”

Jermall and Jermell Charlo, the incredible story of identical twins who are both boxing world champions

TWINS Jermall and Jermell Charlo are taking the boxing world by storm, dominating the middleweight and junior middleweight divisions.
Hailing from Houston, Texas, the duo set out aiming to stand together atop of the 154-pound division – a feat they are close to achieving at the age of 30.

    Childhood & Amateur Career

The Charlo twins were born in Lafayette, Louisiana, but were raised in Houston.
Jermell, the younger of the two, was born one minute after his older brother Jermall.
As teens the brothers attended Alief Hastings High School in Houston and competed in football and basketball, but eventually gravitated towards boxing.
The twins began boxing when their father, former professional Kevin Charlo, took them to the gym to give them a positive, disciplined environment.

In an interview with ShowTime, local trainer Ronnie Shields said he used to see the young twins in the gym constantly.
“I would train Evander Holyfield in Houston and I used to see Jermall and his brother Jarmell in the gym every day and every single day they would say ‘you’re going to train us or what man?’” Shields said.
Along with Holyfield, Shields worked with greats such as Mike Tyson and Pernell Whitaker.
Jermell quickly rose through the amateur ranks, winning a bronze medal at the 2005 Junior Olympics at the age of 15.

After posting an amateur record of 56 wins and eight losses, Jermell turned professional at the age of 17 in 2007.
As his younger brother turned pro, Jermall continued as an amateur hoping to compete in the 2008 Olympics.
Although a toe injury kept him from that dream, he wrapped up his amateur career in 2008 with a record of 65 wins and six losses.
    Jermell’s Professional Start
Jermell began his professional career with a four-round unanimous decision victory over the previously unbeaten Corey Sommerville, whom he floored in the third round on December 8, 2007.
The youngest Charlo continued his impressive start, and in 2009 he knocked out the previously unbeaten Abdon Alonzo in the second round, making his record 10-0 with five knockouts.
On January 26, 2013, Jermell scored an eight-round knockout over Harry Joe Yorgey.
That was followed by a unanimous decision win over Demetrius Hopkins, nephew of Bernard Hopkins, in June.

    13

“Yorgey was a major move in my career. He was 25-1.” Jermell told Premier Boxing, reflecting on the win.
“Then you have Demetrius Hopkin and I had to have surgery before the fight because the commission said that my vision was so bad that I was legally blind.”
After scoring a knock out win against former champion Joachim Alcine, Jermell left his longtime trainer Ronnie Shields in 2015 to work with Derrick James, who also trained 147-pound champion Errol Spence Jr.
On May 21, 2016, the twins made history at the Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas when both Jermell and Jermall walked away with championship belts around their waste.

Jermell won the WBC’s vacant 154-pound title after an eighth-round stoppage against John Jackson.
On the same card, Jermall scored a unanimous decision win over titleholder Austin Trout.
The siblings became the first twins to reign concurrently in the same division at the same time.
“We did it,” Jermell said after the wins.
“We made history. We’ve been boxing for all these years, and it had to happen.”
Jermall added: “It was great being the first twins to win titles in the same division, and I’m so proud of my brother. I knew he could get the job done.”
On December 22, 2018, in the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, Jermell lost his title to Tony Harrison by unanimous decision.

“They took that fight from me,” Jermell said of the judges.
“I was pressing the action. He didn’t win that fight. I’m going to get my belts back.”
Jermell kept his word when on December 21, 2019, he knocked Harrison down four times until the referee finally called the bout in the 11th round.
“I got that belt. It took me a while, and got in the 11th and I didn’t leave it up to the judges,” Jermell said afterwards. “I dictated, I dominated and I knocked him out.”
    Jermall’s Professional Start
One year after his younger brother went professional, Jermall had his first professional fight on September 12, 2009, with a second-round KO of Cimarron Davis.
Despite competing in his brothers shadow, Jermall went 12-0 with eight KO’s.
The older twin got his moment in April 2013 when he faced Mexican veteran Orlando Lora at the Alamodome in Texas on the undercard of the Austin Trout and Saul Canelo Alvarez pay-per-view.

The veteran was no match for Jermall, who controlled the match and gained a fifth-round stoppage victory.
Under trainer Ronnie Shields, Jermall rode the momentum fighting four times in 2013, and winning all four.
He climbed to a 17-0 record, putting himself in position for a title shot.
On September 12, 2015, Jermall finally got his shot at the 154-pound title, going up against the champion Cornelius Bundrage.
Exactly seven years to the day he made his pro debut, Jermall picked up a third-round TKO over Bundrage to be crowned the champion.
Jermall’s second defense was a 12-round unanimous decision win over former champ Austin Trout on May 21, 2016, followed by a fifth-round KO over previously unbeaten Julian Williams in December of that year.

    13

“I told everyone what I was going to do since the fight was announced. Williams just wasn’t on my level,” Jermall said after the win.
“I’m outing my life on the line again for my family to continue building my legacy as one of the best boxers in the world.”
In 2017, Jermall proclaimed his move up to the middleweight division and announced himself as an immediate threat to Gennady Golovkin, ex-champion Danny Jacobs and Canelo Alvarez.
He continued to display his incredible knock out power when he picked up a KO victory over top-ranked challenger Dennis Hogan in late 2019.

Jermall dropped him in the fourth round and then proceeded to batter him until a left hook in the seventh floored Hogan again, resulting in the referee calling the bout.
“I made it through 2019 and we’re going to 2020 with 20/20 vision,” Jermall said after the fight.

“My son was born during the weight-ins, so I had to make weight, and then go and be with my son after the weight-ins,” he said.
“My father cut the umbilical cord for my son, because I wasn’t actually there. So he was born, then, I went and won the fight. That was a situation where there could have been a lot of adversity.”
ESPN reported in 2018 that Jermell was the defendant in a domestic violence case. He had been arrested in May 2018, after an alleged attack on a women whom he had been dating.
On June 19, 2018, a grand jury indicted Jermell on one count of third-degree felony assault toward a member of his household.

According to the grand jury indictment, Jermell allegedly squeezed Jazmyne Olison’s neck and forced her against a fence, floor and railing. He also allegedly pulled her hair.
“Charlo committed the said offense by intentionally, knowingly, and recklessly impeding (Olison’s) normal breathing and circulation of blood by applying pressure to her throat and neck and by blocking her nose and mouth,” the indictment read.
On March 2019, a grand jury acquitted Jermell on all charges related to the alleged attack after the three-day trail produced no evidence that matched the claims of assault.

“This case, and the fear of losing my freedom and livelihood, has hung over me like a dark cloud for almost a year,” he told the Los Angeles Times.
“I was offered a plea deal that I could not in good conscience accept because I wasn’t guilty. I’m happy that the jury did its job, and I want to thank them for that.”
    September 2020 Return

Dereck Chisora spends day out riding electric bike around Mayfair as ‘War’ prepares for Oleksandr Usyk showdown

DERECK CHISORA spent the day out riding an electric bike around Mayfair as he prepares to face Oleksandr Usyk.
The heavyweight, 36, was meant to fight former cruiserweight king Usyk, 33, in March.

The day out comes as Chisora prepares to face Oleksandr Usyk

But the coronavirus pandemic KO’d the headliner, much to the frustration of both fighters.
‘War’ Chisora has trained throughout as he awaits his new fight date, but took a short break to ride around on an electric bike in London.
Promoter Eddie Hearn had planned to have WBO mandatory challenger Usyk face Chisora on October 31 at the O2 in front of a limited crowd.
He told Sky Sports: “Dereck is training really hard.

“October 31st is the date we have penciled in for that fight, but it’s dependent on the current deal driving people through the doors and having some kind of gate or moving it internationally and having a site fee.”
Hearn applied to the Government for a pilot boxing event with fans, after his banner held a snooker tournament with 300 people present in August.
But the Government’s latest restrictions limiting social gatherings to no more than six people has pushed back the return of British boxing fans.
Dillian Whyte, 32, was forced to fight Alexander Povetkin, 41, behind closed doors – where he suffered an upset knockout defeat.

Floyd Mayweather ‘carried’ McGregor in their fight and won in round ten just as he predicted he would, reveals Broner

ADRIEN BRONER said Floyd Mayweather pre-planned to stop Conor McGregor in ten rounds and ‘carried’ him during their fight.
McGregor, 32, found success in the opening rounds of his boxing debut in 2017 but tired late on as Mayweather, 43, upped the tempo.

Adrien Broner said Floyd Mayweather pre-planned to stop Conor McGregor in ten rounds and ‘carried’ him during their fight

The exhausted Irishman was halted a round after being saved by the bell in the at the end of the ninth.
But Mayweather’s former protege and friend Broner, 31, claimed it was all part of his tactical masterplan to take McGregor past his comfort zone.
Broner told VladTV: “He carried him to the tenth round, stopped him, like he told me he was going to do.
“MMA fighters, they don’t fight 12 rounds, they fight three-five rounds. They don’t fight 12 rounds.”

The lucrative money-fight proved to be Mayweather’s fifth and final as a pro.

Mayweather is again training, and southpaw sparring partner Denis Douglin revealed the former pay-per-view king could be preparing to rematch The Notorious.
It comes after the unbeaten American last year announced he was ‘coming out of retirement in 2020’ to work with UFC boss Dana White.

Meet Britain’s worst boxer who’s ready to throw in the towel for a final time and end his remarkable career on a high

BRITAIN’S worst boxer will head into the ring on Saturday looking to achieve a feat he managed just twice in 11 years… to win a fight.
Robin ‘Rockin’ Deakin has finally decided he has had enough of being beaten up for a living.

    10

    10

Deakin is preparing for one last hurrah in the ring on Saturday

The “Eddie the Eagle” of boxing, as he calls himself, has a bruising record of 53 losses in 55 professional bouts.
He won his first-ever professional scrap under promoter Frank Warren in 2006 but was forced to wait NINE long years before surprising everyone when he tarnished his record with a second win.
The 33-year-old’s memorable career has seen him box the likes of Anthony Crolla, lose his home, suffer depression and become a celebrity in Spain.
A true warrior, he told SunSport: “My role was to go out and get beaten up for a living.

“I gained nothing apart from losing a few brain cells and being dumb as s***.
“I’m a journeyman boxer, but I wouldn’t class myself as that.
“I would describe myself as a gladiator going into battle whether I’m ready or not.
“There’s not many people who do what I do. How many people would have given up on the first hurdle? I refused.

“I was always a world champion with my heart.
“Whether I’m remembered for being the best or the worst it doesn’t matter.”

Before speaking with Deakin, from Crawley, West Sussex, it was difficult to apprehend why he put his life on the line on a weekly basis.
At one point, he fought 19 opponents in 24 weeks – losing against them all.
But it soon became clear why Deakin refused to throw in the towel – he wanted to achieve his dream and give two fingers to those who bullied him as a kid.
Deakin was born with club foot in both feet, underwent 40 operations and was in a wheelchair until the age of six.
“I was never really liked as a kid. I was always bullied at school so I started boxing to build my confidence.
“Everyone at school, even the teachers, used to say I was going nowhere.
“I told them I was going to be a professional boxer and they obviously thought I wasn’t going to make it.
“My dream wasn’t to be a world champion. It was to be an unknown fighter, known for what I’ve done.
“I wanted to make an impression on what I do in life.
“Whether it’s a mechanic, a finance manager… whatever it is you always try to make a legacy.
“I knew I wasn’t going to be the best because of my situation. My legs were going to play a big part in my boxing career.”

He added: “He scouted me in Jersey when I went out there and boxed their No1 kid.
“I lost but I put up one hell of a fight and at the end of the night Steve said to me ‘I haven’t seen an amateur boxer move like you’ and when I told him what I had been through he was overwhelmed at how good I was.”
In 2006, Deakin had made it after signing a pro deal with Warren.
Cocky, confident and ready to tear up the rule book, Deakin stepped into the ring for his first pro fight against Shaun Walton with red and white hair.
He won on points and was ready to take on the world.
“After my first fight, I thought ‘wicked.’ A lot of people were saying how good I was, how quick I was and if I’m honest it got to my head.
“I thought I was the big I AM, I could do what I want.
“I was called three weeks before Amir Khan was due to fight Mohammed Medjadi at Wembley Arena.
“I was told ‘I’ve got a fight it’s up to you whether you want to take it. This guy is a bit heavier than you – would you like to take it?’
“I thought ‘I’ve got Frank Warren – he’s my shield I couldn’t lose so I took the fight.
“I ended up losing to a guy on points called Eduards Krauklis from Latvia. I was very disappointed. I thought I won the fight.
“Then I got offered another fight two weeks later against a guy who was undefeated in eight.
“I thought f*** it. I looked at pictures of him, saw his record and thought ‘yeah no problem’.
“After losing my second pro fight no one is going to give you the time of day, especially Frank Warren.”
Little did he know that it would be the beginning of a winless run that would stretch to 51 fights in total.
He became the ultimate journeyman – playing the crucial supporting role to the main attraction.
The job is to lose, something Deakin managed to master down to a tee and help boost the records of upcoming potential that sell the tickets.
But his life was turned upside down in 2012 when he floored Ryan Taylor – an opponent at the beginning of his career.
It was the final straw for the British Boxing Board of Control (BBoC) who revoked his licence, leaving him penniless and sending him into a spiral of depression.
It’s fair to say he still holds a grudge against Robert Smith, Secretary of the BBoC.
“It was an absolute war. I was on the Carl Frampton bill – everyone went away talking about my fight and not the main event.
“Robert Smith called me into his office and said ‘you’re a journeyman, you’re not supposed to go in the fights all guns blazing.’
“I said ‘look, Robert, people spend their hard-earned money on watching a fight – I’m not going to be passed around the ring.’
“If you’re not a yes man, they’re not going to like it. They wanted me to be a yes man.
“They wanted to make an impression out of me to other journeymen.
“I got stripped after that fight – they still have my £250 that I scraped together to go for my appeal which was turned down.
“I was skint. When I lost my license I lost my house, I lost everything. I was homeless. Sofa surfing.”

Deakin was forced to go solo and fought ten more opponents including two in Spain where he was mobbed by paparazzi as his reputation grew as Britain’s worst boxer.
But under the surface of his hardened gladiator spirit, depression still remained his toughest fight of all.
When Deakin was offered the opportunity to fight bare-knuckle, he simply accepted it as another form of self-destruction.
His scrap against Mark Handley, or the “poisoned dwarf” as Deakin called him, on Saturday at the O2 Arena will be his last dance.
He added: “I initially took it as a way of self-harming myself and getting beaten up.
“That’s why I’m going to end on a high – I don’t need it any more. I’m happy now – a happy fighter is a dangerous fighter.
“I fell in love with an amazing woman and I want to spend the rest of my life with her.
“She doesn’t want me to take this fight but I’m doing it for my own sanity.
“To start with a win and end with a win – ready to end the chapter on a high.
“But I’ll be remembered as Britain’s worst boxer and I’m proud of it.”
Deakin is dedicating his fight to Alan Minter – former undisputed middleweight champion. “A fighter who is a legend and Crawley hero. Rest in peace Alan ‘boom boom’ Minter.”

Tyson Fury to take on the Hearns on race track with horses battling it out in Doncaster’s St Leger this weekend

BARRY Hearn and Tyson Fury are no strangers to conflict in the boxing world.
But on Saturday they will go toe-to-toe on the racecourse in the St Leger at Doncaster.

Legendary promoter Hearn – father of Eddie – bred the 14-1 shot Subjectivist, who is trained by the most successful trainer in British racing history in Mark Johnston.
In the opposite corner is rank outsider Tyson Fury, trained by youngster Richard Spencer and named in honour of the heavyweight champ.
Hearn is back for a second crack at the historic race, which is the oldest Classic in the world.
He also bred Sir Ron Priestley, Subjectivist’s older brother who was second to Logician and Frankie Dettori in the Leger 12 months ago.

The siblings were born and raised at Mascalls Stud in Essex, which is run by Hearn’s wife of 50 years Susan.
Subjectivist has a wealth of experience, but Tyson Fury is the polar opposite with just one run under his belt.
But he left his rivals on the canvas with a stunning debut win over a mile and a half at Doncaster in July.
His owners have decided to roll the dice and throw him in at the deep end.

    VERDICT
On the evidence of his debut win at Doncaster earlier in the summer, the exciting Tyson Fury looks as though he packs a decent punch – but he is a flyweight taking on some proven heavyweights here.
    Subjectivist isn’t without a chance.
He is as hard as nails and won easily last time, so he is worth a quid each-way in the big one.
