Top 10 boxers in history announced with Floyd Mayweather Jr No1, Muhammad Ali down at four and Mike Tyson OUT

FLOYD MAYWEATHER has been named the greatest boxer in history.
The retired 50-0 king is ranked miles ahead of great rival Manny Pacquiao in second place in the table from respected boxing site BoxRec.

    2

The 10 best boxers of all time according to BoxRec

Mayweather, 43, from Michigan, US, never lost during his 21-year professional career and his ranking at the top of the pile is another jab at the Filipino.
Muhammad Ali, arguably the greatest sportsman ever, comes in fourth, behind Argentina’s legendary Carlos Monzon.
Here, SunSport runs down the top ten – a lucrative list even the likes of Evander Holyfield, Mike Tyson, Roberto Duran and Rocky Marciano could not make.
    1. Floyd Mayweather
MONEY held multiple world titles in five weight classes and is not only regarded as one of the greatest defensive boxers ever but the most accurate.

Forbes listed the 5ft 8ins champion as the highest earning athlete in the world from 2012 to 2015.
    2. Manny Pacquiao
The only active boxer on the list, Pacquiao, 41, is the only eight-division world champion in the history of boxing.
A current senator in his native Philippines, Pacquiao demolished Oscar De La Hoya into retirement in December 2008, obliterated Ricky Hatton in May 2009… but lost to Mayweather in the Fight of the Century in 2015.
    3. Carlos Monzon
The Argentine playboy died in 1995 and held the undisputed middleweight championship for seven years and recorded 59 knockouts during his career.

However, he has been largely banished from the annals of boxing after he was sentenced to 11 years in prison for killing his wife Alicia Muniz in 1988.
    4. Muhammad Ali
No one touches ‘The Greatest’ for cultural, social and political impact.
His boxing record may well have been even better, too, had he not lost three years of his career after refusing to fight in the Vietnam War from 1967 to 1970.
The image of Ali standing over a battered Sonny Liston is one of sport’s most iconic and his Thrilla in Manila win over Joe Frazier in 1975 the most famous boxing fight ever.

    2

    5. Sugar Ray Robinson
Robinson’s performances at lightweight, welterweight, middleweight and light heavyweight were so seminal that they prompted journalists to create the ‘pound-for-pound’ rankings.
He only lost 19 of his incredible 174 fights and was the first boxer ever to win a belt five times. He died in 1989.

    6. Bernard Hopkins
‘The Executioner’, 55, was famed for his power and ability to pick opponents off on the counter.
He held multiple world titles at middleweight and light heavyweight and credited his mastery of the fundamentals as a reason for his career lasting 28 years.
    7. Joe Louis
The ‘Brown Bomber’ was heavyweight champion from 1937 to 1949 – a period in which he defended his title 25 times.
More than that, he is widely regarded as one of the first black athletes to achieve the status of national hero in the US. He died in 1981.
    8. Archie Moore
‘Mongoose’ is the longest reigning world light heavyweight champion of all time.
He held the crown from December 1952 to May 1962 and though he had a great chin which could take a pounding, he was respected as a highly strategic and defensive pugilist. Died in 1998.
    9. Oscar De La Hoya
At the time of his retirement in April 2009, De La Hoya, now 47, was the most popular boxer in the world.
He won ten world titles in six divisions and started boxing at the age of five, but is now a successful businessman having founded Golden Boy Promotions.
    10. Julio Cesar Chavez
The Mexican competed from 1980 to 2005 and was a multiple world champion in three weight divisions: super featherweight, lightweight and light welterweight.
Chavez, 57, holds the record for the most successful defences of world titles at 27 and, before his first professional loss to Frankie Randall in 1994, had gone on an 87-fight win streak.

Tyson Fury reveals he was car salesman with dad John just to making money before earning millions from boxing

TYSON FURY has revealed that he worked as a car salesman with his dad John during the early days of his incredible career.
The Gypsy King’s net worth is thought to be around the £70million mark after brutally defeating Deontay Wilder in Las Vegas back in February.

And after the first bout with Wilder, Fury made the incredible gesture to donate his entire £8m earnings from the bout to the homeless.
But the 32-year-old wasn’t always in the position to be able to make such a generous sacrifice.
The humble star told Behind the Gloves: “It wasn’t like I was a young, single guy who had no responsibility.
“I had to pay bills at home and I had to provide for my wife and child.

“I couldn’t just run around the world in training camp after training camp…
I didn’t have that type of money where I could just go around and leave my kids and wife at home.
“I needed to work still, I had a day job too. I was still working.
“There were long periods of time where I just wasn’t boxing. Inactivity.

“I sold a few cars, cut a few trees. Anything to try and get a few quid to pay my bills and look after my family.”
While the revelation will shock most, Fury has opened up about his experiences selling cars with John before.
He told the Guardian back in 2011: “My first job was working for my dad.
“He was a used-car dealer and I used to wash the cars down, clean them out and so on.
“I would do stuff for him pretty much every day, it was quite a good job to be honest.
“I did it all the way through school, from about the age of ten until I was 16.
“I was always quite good at fixing and working with cars. My dad’s always dealt cars and I’ve always been brought up around them.

It was great for me because it gave me discipline. I know how to work for money and I know how to appreciate it when I’ve got it
    Tyson Fury

“I could drive from the age of nine. My dad had his car pitch at home, and we used to drive the cars around the land, take them up to the tap, wash them and reverse them back. By the time I was 17 I could drive like Colin McRae.
“It was great for me because it gave me discipline. I know how to work for money and I know how to appreciate it when I’ve got it. It also kept me out of trouble and kept me off the streets, drinking and all that stuff.
“A lot of my friends when I was 14 or 15, they were all up and down, wanting to go out on a Friday night.
“And my dad had me working really late on Fridays and Saturday mornings and even on Sunday mornings.
“And when I’d finished all that, we used to spend the rest of the time talking about boxing.”
Fury still has two-fights left of his bumper £80m contract with ESPN.
And if he fights Joshua as expected, there will be a pot of £77m guaranteed for both fighters.
The Gypsy King also has a viable money-making option through the WWE, having made around £12m for his crossover bout with Braun Strowman last year.

He has also become close friends with Saunders, 32.
On Instagram Kelbie now describes himself as “commercial director of talent for team Fury/Saunders”.
Both fighters are managed by controversial MTK Global which Kelbie has also been helping to promote.

The boxing super-firm was originally founded by Irish mobster Daniel Kinahan.
We told how Kelbie, Fury and his Love Island star brother Tommy, 21, had a break in Edinburgh last Wednesday.

Tyson Fury tells Anthony Joshua to ignore mandatories and vacate heavyweight belts to set up British super-fight

TYSON FURY has told Anthony Joshua to vacate his heavyweight titles to set up the all-British showdown.
Back at the start of coronavirus lockdown Fury announced that the pair had “agreed two fights in 2021”.

    2

But before the nitty-gritty of negotiating those begins, both boxers have upcoming mandatory title defences.
Joshua faces Kubrat Pulev, 39, in a mandatory title defence on December 12 for the IBF, WBO and WBA belts on the line.
And WBC champ Fury is signed to an immediate rematch against Deontay Wilder, targeted for the same month.
But should heavy-favourite Joshua see off Pulev, the WBO could demand he fights their mandatory, former undisputed cruiserweight king Oleksandr Usyk.

That would mean another delay to the Fury scrap.
But the Gypsy King has called on AJ to “step up to the plate” and be prepared to vacate belts to set up their Battle of Britain.
Speaking to Behind The Gloves, the 33-year-old said: “Rather than fight all these mandatories he’s got, I’d say just vacate those belts and fight the fight everyone wants to see.
“I ain’t running from you, I don’t care about you. I’ll go through you like a knife through butter. Come and fight the big boy, step up to the plate and get knocked out. Then fight all those easy guys.

“No disrespect to Usyk – great fighter, cruiserweight world champion, probably going to be heavyweight champion if he fights Anthony Joshua – but don’t take my retirement cheque, baby. Don’t do it.
“I said to Deontay Wilder years ago, ‘do not take my retirement fund, do not fight Joshua, He’s mine. He’s my countryman, I’m having him, I’m breaking him in!’
“But it didn’t happen. He got broke in by an unlikely suspect [Andy Ruiz]. It was what it was. Why would he fight Usyk and get ten per cent of what he can make off the Gypsy King?
“Vacate it, let them boys fight for the vacant [WBO] belt, whoever it is, Usyk and [Joseph] Parker. We’re at the top of the game. We’re in this boxing to fight the biggest fights out there.
“It’s a boxing match, what’s the worse that can happen? You can lose? Big deal.”
Fury has recently blasted AJ for failing to show up to a sparring session before the Gypsy King battered Wilder in February.

But one former boxing world champion believes it will be Joshua triumphant when the two Brits eventually get it on.
Johnny Nelson told talkSPORT: “I think both men are now at a stage where they’ve done so much and learned so much in their careers that they’re so neck and neck.
“But, I’d go with Anthony Joshua because he’s shown me a lot more variety in his arsenal.”

Tyson Fury slams Anthony Joshua after claiming he was ‘supposed to come train with us’ as pair get set to meet in ring

TYSON FURY fired a shot at Anthony Joshua by goading that his rival was “supposed to come train with us”.
Unified champion Joshua, 30, offered to spar Fury, 32, before the Gypsy King challenged Deontay Wilder.

    2

    2

Anthony Joshua has agreed a two-fight with against Fury

But the proposal was never followed up.
It mattered little as Fury dominated Wilder, 34, last February to win the WBC belt and set up an undisputed title decider against AJ.
The heavyweight champions have verbally agreed to a two-fight deal for 2021 – and Joshua was reminded about his no-show in sparring.
Fury told Behind the Gloves: “Anthony Joshua says a lot.

“He was suppose to come into training camp and train with us, I guess that goes to show how far his word goes.
“We wanted some of that action.
“He said he was coming, but he didn’t. We can’t really take what he says as his word anymore.”
Before the pair can settle the score in the ring, they both have unwanted interim fights to first handle.

Tyson faces Jones in an eight-round exhibition in November

The pay-per-view spectacle was shifted from September to November, with Iron Mike continuing to share viral training videos online.
With the power and physical disadvantage, Jones admitted he could well have ‘made a mistake’ by agreeing to fight Tyson.
Briggs, 48, responded by putting his name into the hat to take his place.
He wrote on Instagram: “They say Champ having second thoughts.

“Tag me in Champ! I am from Brownsville too. Never ran, never will. Let’s go champ.”
Jones had threatened to walk away from fighting Tyson after the event was pushed back two month.
But the American great later agreed terms to remain involved.
And he has already started the kidology by insisting Tyson is the favourite going into the bout.

Adrien Broner plots January return despite bad boy’s promise to quit boxing to become ‘full-time rapper’

ADRIEN BRONER is in talks to make a return to boxing in January – despite quitting to become a ‘full-time rapper’.
The 31-year-old has not fought since losing to Manny Pacquiao, 41, in January 2019.

Adrien Broner is in talks to make a return to boxing in January

He was arrested in March this year in Miami for drink-driving and jailed for seven days last month after violating his probation.
Broner had announced retirement in May to focus on a music career, and promised he would only lace up the gloves again for a £10million payday.
But Showtime Sports executive Stephen Espinoza revealed the boxing bad boy is ready to fight again with his rap album due to be released this year.
Espinoza told BoxingScene: “Broner is coming back in January.

“Assuming he is done with his big record release.”
Broner has not won since beating Adrian Granados, 31, on points in 2017.
Losses against Mikey Garcia, 32, and Pacquiao were sandwiched in between a draw with Jessie Vargas, 31.
Broner, a four-weight champion, has not campaigned at 140lb since defeat to Garcia three years ago.

Stallone, who famously played heavyweight world champion Rocky Balboa, is impressed with Tyson’s condition and physique.
The 74-year-old told TMZ Sports that Jones Jr needs to be “like Fred Astaire” and make sure he “keeps moving”.
He said: “You’re talking about, I mean – everyone knows it, Mike Tyson is a wrecking ball.
“Roy Jones is a great, great fighter, but it’s just a matter of physics.

“Well, let’s put it this way. What do you think is going to work? A 22 against a 45?”
Tyson was previously linked with a third fight with nemesis Evander Holyfield.

He has run a cannabis farm since 2016, raking in £500,000-a-month.
The former undisputed heavyweight world champion hit his lowest point in 2006 when he admitted to cocaine and alcohol binges, ballooning to 27 STONE.

This carried on until 2011 when he starred in The Hangover Part II.
But he got his life back together and is now set to make a killing with his ring return.
