Dillian Whyte vs Povetkin rematch yet to be signed off by BBBofC as they reveal he has longer 48-day medical ban

DILLIAN WHYTE’S rematch against Alexander Povetkin cannot be made official until he passes a medical check once his suspension is over.
Whyte was brutally knocked out in the fifth round against Povetkin last month, but has exercised his right to an immediate rematch.

Whyte is set to rematch Povetkin on November 21

Promoter Eddie Hearn announced the rerun is set for November 21 – but the fight is yet to be signed off by the British Board of Boxing Control.
Boxing News editor Matt Christie revealed BBoBC chief Robert Smith has stressed that Whyte is suspended for 48 days, not the widely reported 28.
After those 48 days are completed on October 9, he will undergo medicals before his licence can be reinstated and the rematch officially confirmed.
Whyte is not only fighting for revenge but also his right to challenge for Tyson Fury’s heavyweight title.

Following defeat, the 32-year-old surrendered his WBC mandatory position that guaranteed him a crack at the belt in 2021.
With the stakes raised even more in the rematch, Hearn conceded a second defeat against 41-year-old Povetkin would be ‘terminal’ for Whyte’s title hopes.
He told Sky Sports: “All of a sudden, the pressure is not just on trying to become the mandatory and fight Fury.
“This is the pressure of his career on November 21.

“He’s hugely motivated to put this right, but it’s extremely dangerous and of course, moving into the rematch, just 13 weeks after the first fight is very, very dangerous.
“But Dillian Whyte wouldn’t have it any other way.
“I think [defeat] is terminal for his world title chances – and that’s obviously the ultimate aim for him. I think he knows the pressures.
“He was deeply disappointed with getting knocked out from an amazing bit of skill from Povetkin and he’s got to put that right.”

Floyd Mayweather and Logan Paul ‘both in talks’ for exhibition fight, confirms Viddal Riley, who has ‘inside scoop’

FLOYD MAYWEATHER and Logan Paul are ‘both in talks’ for an exhibition bout according to Viddal Riley, who has the ‘inside scoop’.
Riley, 23, is promoted by Mayweather, 43, and trained by his uncle Jeff, 46.

The 4-0 cruiserweight has it on good authority from the legendary American boxing family that talks are ongoing with 25-year-old YouTuber Paul.
Riley said on his Instagram: “I just can’t believe that this is even a thing that is being discussed.
“Both guys are in talks, it is not confirmed yet. Remember, I get the inside scoop, I’m the one that hangs around the family.
“I can tell you that is is not confirmed yet, but it is in talks.”

East Londoner Viddal has a history with Paul, having twice coached close friend KSI – real name Olajide William Olatunji – to fight him.
The internet stars first drew in an exhibition bout in 2018, but controversially turned pro for their rematch a year later.
KSI, 27, won on a split-decision, after a two point deduction cost Paul the result.
Having failed to win in either fight, Riley believes Mayweather should have overlooked Paul to instead box KSI.

SHANNON BRIGGS has volunteered to replace Roy Jones Jr and fight Mike Tyson after declaring: ‘Tag me in champ’.

Tyson faces Jones in an eight-round exhibition in November

The pay-per-view spectacle was shifted from September to November, with Iron Mike continuing to share viral training videos online.
With the power and physical disadvantage, Jones admitted he could well have ‘made a mistake’ by agreeing to fight Tyson.
Briggs, 48, responded by putting his name into the hat to take his place.
He wrote on Instagram: “They say Champ having second thoughts.

“Tag me in Champ! I am from Brownsville too. Never ran, never will. Let’s go champ.”
Jones had threatened to walk away from fighting Tyson after the event was pushed back two month.
But the American great later agreed terms to remain involved.
And he has already started the kidology by insisting Tyson is the favourite going into the bout.

Conor Benn warns social media is a ‘killer’ as he quits Instagram in order to preserve his mental health

CONOR BENN walked away from social media at the peak of his pulling power – to preserve his mental health.
At 23, and in a mandatory position for British and Commonwealth welterweight title fights, he should be loving using Instagram and Facebook to interact with his fans.

    5

But the dark side of this tech phenomenon – the focus of new film The Social Dilemma – has forced the Brit to turn off.
Getting whacked in hardcore sparring sessions at the talent-packed Tony Sims gym are par for the course – but Benn has limits…
After another gruelling workout, the son of boxing legend Nigel warned: “Social media is a killer.
“It does have benefits but I now feel the bad outweighs the good, especially for mental health and even more so among young people.

“I am only 23 and I really didn’t realise that young people could even have problems like depression and anxiety.
“But I feel now that social media is really contributing to that.
“I have read stories about young kids harming themselves — or worse — because of the pressures and influences of social media.
“Social media has allowed people to walk right into your front room and smack you in the mouth completely anonymously, without you being able to do anything back.

“I am not programmed to just take it like that — I’ll take a dig but only if I can give one back.
“I have stayed off Instagram for four months. I have my accounts, but they are run for me and I feel so much better for it.
“I just don’t need people blowing smoke up my backside.
“But I also don’t need people abusing me for no reason and bringing negativity into my life.”
Benn’s initial leap from amateur obscurity to Sky Sports prime-time – thanks to his legendary father’s fanbase – put some noses out of joint and a target on his back.
But he is baffled about the stick still aimed his way after 16 exciting professional bouts.
And Benn wants to warn trolls everyone has their breaking point.

I have stayed off Instagram for four months. I feel so much better for it.
    Conor Benn

If the fighting men in the Benn family are emotionally raw enough to cry more than the women, think about how vulnerable other targets are to online bullying.
He explained: “People just see me as a sportsman. Not as a person with feelings and emotions and personal struggles.
“I think boxers and fighters are probably even more emotional than normal people in other jobs and walks of life.

“We are just wired differently and process things differently. My old man is so emotional. His whole career was driven by emotion and I am very much like that myself.
“My dad cried more than my mum and he is a hard man.
“And no matter how many times you say, ‘it doesn’t get to me’, if you really keep prodding and poking and hurting someone, you will get to them.”
Conor was relieved when his 56-year-old father’s comeback was cancelled due to injury at the end of last year.
Despite backing his Australia-based old man 100 per cent to scratch the itch, he dreaded the thought of him getting hurt.
But it sounds like The Dark Destroyer — a two-weight world champion — has taken out his frustrations on Conor’s soft furnishings during lockdown. Conor added: “My dad flew over from Australia to do a tour around England.
“He was due to stay at my house for ten days but then lockdown kicked in and he ended up here for four months!
“I should have charged him for damages, let alone rent.

Tyson Fury will ‘most likely’ spar 6ft 5in unbeaten KO artist Apti Davtaev to sharpen up for Deontay Wilder trilogy

TYSON FURY’S next sparring partner will ‘most likely’ be Russian KO artist Apti Davtaev.
The Gypsy King is gearing up for a December 19 trilogy fight against Deontay Wilder and could get in the ring with 6ft 5in unbeaten Davtaev as part of his preparations.

Both fighters are trained by SugarHill Steward and it could be a mutually beneficial partnership.
With Davtaev, 31, boasting an impressive record of 19 KOs in 21 professional fights he has the punching power to replicate the threat of The Bronze Bomber.
And the Russian heavyweight will benefit from the experience of getting up close and personal with world champ Fury, 32.

I want to feel his power but I also want to learn.”
    Apti Davtaevon Tyson Fury

Davtaev was asked about his prospects of training in the ring with Fury and told RT Sport: “Most likely yes, it’s definite. Right now I can’t say anything officially, but most likely it’s definite.

“I expect [Fury] to move around a lot. I want to feel his power but I also want to learn. The main thing for me is to learn.
“I want to test myself. Without question Tyson Fury is the best heavyweight in the world. Wilder doesn’t have a chance in the rematch.
“I’ve been interested in sport since I was a kid. In our republic, everyone is and it’s not surprising that I chose the career of a professional athlete.
“I started training 19-20 years ago, right now I’m training at home.”

Joshua has to fight Kubrat Pulev before potentially being mandated to face former cruiserweight champ Usyk by the WBO.
Fury is scheduled to face Wilder for a third time at the new Raiders Stadium in Las Vegas at the end of the year.
The first bout ended in a spectacular draw after Fury climbed off the canvas in the last round, but he didn’t leave it to the judges in February – battering Wilder with a seventh-round KO.

HEAVYWEIGHT brute Anthony Joshua showed off the explosive power that has seen him knockout 21 of his 24 opponents.

The heavyweight champ then connects with a left hook

AJ dropped almost a stone following his disastrous loss to Andy Ruiz Jr in June 2019, after teetering the scales at 17st 9lbs, to get his revenge on the Mexican.
But he appears to have piled on the muscle once again which was evident on a training video uploaded to Instagram, captioned: “Beauty in violence.”
During a workout session, he works on his power by throwing a brutal right uppercut, left hook combo on four occasions.
He knocks his trainer off his feet and those in the background watching can be heard gasping in amazement at his strength.

One fan responded online: “This is why Anthony Joshua is the greatest boxer of all time.”
Another added: “If either one of those lands it’s curtains for Tyson Fury.”
Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn insisted his fight with Pulev will still go ahead as planned despite being behind-closed-doors.
The government have performed a U-turn on plans to allow a minority of fans back into sporting arenas from October.

He told the Daily Mail: “Obviously today’s announcement is a massive challenge for everyone in sport.
“Our intention now is carry on with all our scheduled events.
“Clearly the finances are affected by not having crowds, even smaller crowds, but we’re working to keep our schedule. That includes Joshua.
“You have two options – cancel or go ahead, quite possibly without a crowd.
“You’d still hope that by December you might have some back but you can’t plan on that now.
“We’ll go ahead in December for Joshua because it’s been a year since he fought Andy Ruiz and he needs to fight.”
