Love Island star Jack Fincham says biggest shock to system since starting new pro boxing career is giving up crisps

LOVE ISLAND winner Jack Fincham is ditching crisps to earn a belt – not a packet – in his new boxing career.
The snack-loving hunk has ditched his favourite Walkers for long runs and brutal sparring sessions while dreaming of a little-known Southern Area title.

Because long before boxing’s money-grabbing sanctioning bodies were inventing belts to hire and YouTube influencers were promising to dethrone bonafide champions, the former pen salesman was a proper amateur boxer with honest, modest dreams.
And now the Eltham ABC graduate, who makes his pro debut with the new Boxxer promotional banner in November after winning 18 of his 26 amateur bouts, has a second chance to fulfil his potential.
Speaking exclusively to SunSport – who will be following Fincham’s admirable journey from Spanish villa to potential Manilla Thrilla every Wednesday in a six-part series on our YouTube channel – the 26-year-old said: “I am not doing this for the money.
“Obviously I will get paid but I grew up in the sport and know there are easier ways to make a living.

“I know all about the weight cutting and 6am runs and sparring beatings so this isn’t a novelty to me.
“The biggest shock to my system will be giving up crisps – even more than a night out, it’s not normal how much I eat them.”
Jack , who won series four of Love Island with ex Dani Dyer in 2018, added: “I want to better myself, fulfil the potential I showed as a teenager and – if I am being honest – a Southern Area title would be amazing to reach.
“Casual boxing fans might not even know about that title but I remember boxers winning it in my gym when I was a kid and it was like they had won a world title.

“An area title is a major achievement that some boxers spend their whole career fighting for, not usually on the TV or with a lot of attention.

“But it would mean the world to me and I am actually going to make the belt my screensaver after this interview to give me something to aim for.”
Fincham’s last fight came and went quietly two years ago and did nothing to reignite his love for the hurt business.
But he has just completed two weeks with Tyson Fury’s former trainer Ben Davison – working alongside unified super-lightweight king Josh Taylor – and is champing at the bit to prove he is so much more than the cuddly one from the hit dating show.
The 5ft 11in Kent heartthrob, who has a baby daughter Blossom with NHS worker Casey Ranger, will make his pro bow at the light-heavyweight limit of 12st 7lbs against an as yet unnamed opponent.
But he has vowed to shed more bulk to compete down at the 12st of super-middle.
“There was a running joke in the villa that I was the only one who didn’t have abs and a six-pack,” he remembered.
“But I am on my way now and I might line all the old lads up once I reach my target and show them who’s boss.

“When I hit around 16 I started working and enjoying my wages and weekends and that does not blend with boxing so I gave up.

Tyson Fury teases ‘power house’ Anthony Joshua over explosive punch power training video

TYSON FURY cheekily teased Anthony Joshua after his heavyweight rival posted a powerful training video online.
Fans are eagerly awaiting a Battle of Britain match-up between the pair, which is in the offing for next year.

But they both have serious challengers to contend with first, in fights delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Ahead of facing Kubrat Pulev, Joshua showed off his power in the gym, posting a clip of his brutal right-uppercut, left-hook combo on Instagram.
At one point, the 30-year-old knocked his trainer off his feet as onlookers gasped in awe.

Joshua captioned his clip: “Beauty in violence.”
And Fury, 32, was certainly left impressed.
He retorted on his Instagram stories, cheekily writing: “Omg [Oh my God]. This powerhouse.
    “Take that.”

The Gypsy King was in a playful mood on Wednesday, posting a number of stories in reply to his rivals.

Disgraced Jarrell Miller says he only failed drug test because of SEX PILL as ex-Anthony Joshua rival vows to clear name

DISGRACED Jarrell Miller says he only failed his latest drug test because of a SEX PILL as he fights to clear his name.
The American boxer, 32, failed multiple drug tests in the run-up to his proposed fight with Anthony Joshua at Madison Square Garden in 2019.

    2

Miller was banned from fighting, with Andy Ruiz Jr taking his place and stunning the planet by beating the British star.
After serving his six-month suspension, Miller was given a chance to redeem himself.
But earlier this year, he returned ANOTHER positive drug test – his fourth in just a 12-month span.
Many boxing figureheads have demanded Miller be slapped with a lifetime ban after the Nevada State Athletic Commission temporarily suspended his boxing licence.

Most-recently, Miller returned a positive result for an illegal endurance booster called GW501516.
He also tested positive for the substance – along with EPO and Human Growth Hormone (HGH) – ahead of his Joshua fight last year.
Now it’s been suggested the ‘widely available’ Black Ant male sexual stimulant could be to blame.
The sex pill contains GW501516, with Miller admitted to taking it 30 days before his test.

But Miller is adamant he didn’t realise what the pill contained and never put two-and-two together after being left baffled as to how he was failing his drug tests.
Miller also added his positive tests for HGH and EPO in 2019 came from a ‘stem cell shot’ in his elbow.
Now the American has vowed to clear his name, telling Sportsmail: “Everybody wants to point the finger but not everybody has the right information
“The levels I failed for in this case right now were so minute.
“And with the EPO, you need to use that for months at a time if you want to get any muscle benefits not just one shot.
“Anyone who knows me knows I’m not that person and we are going to prove everybody wrong.
“I have spent thousands of dollars of my own money trying to find out what’s happened.
“But there’s ignorance on a lot of people’s part.
“Everybody listens to whoever has the loudest voice at the time and who has the microphone.”

    2

Miller was replaced by Ruiz to fight Joshua after failing multiple drug tests last yearCredit: AP:Associated Press
Miller continued: “When Eddie Hearn, or Andre Ward or Timothy Bradley are saying what they’re saying everybody listens.
“But when I get the microphone back in my hand and get two or three wins back under my belt, I’m going to shut them up.
“The proof is in the pudding. It’s right there. I’ve been truthful from the beginning to the end.
“The truth will set you free and I believe in that. If you go by the book and by the law, this case is innocent.”
Miller went on to blame a lack of education regarding drugs for his repeated failed tests – and vowed to bone up on the banned substance list.
He continued: “I was getting my supplements tested but I should have been more careful.
“When I failed for GW501516 I was the one who called for my third test, and when my third test results came back that was when EPO had shown up and I was like ‘No way, I need to figure this out’…
“And then I was told it was in the stem cell shot.
“I had taken stem cell shots before and never had a problem but this one was a more potent blend.
“I do my due diligence now and I’m trying to educate myself on these things and I’m working on something behind closed doors to protect other fighters from this happening to them.
“There’s a lack of education around drug testing, that’s the problem.”

KSI slams Floyd Mayweather vs Logan Paul bout as YouTube star asks ‘why the f*** would he want to fight second best?’

YOUTUBE star KSI has slammed the proposed bout between Floyd Mayweather and former foe Logan Paul.
The 27-year-old has cast doubt on whether the fight will come to fruition, despite reports claiming the exhibition contest will take place later this year.

KSI has twice fought Paul, drawing in their first meeting, before beating him last year when the pair turned professional.
And KSI has stated it makes no sense for five-weight world champion Mayweather to return to the ring to face Paul.
He insisted that it would make more sense for the 1996 Olympic bronze medallist to face him instead.
Speaking on his second YouTube channel, KSI said: “This ain’t happening.

“Why the f*** would Mayweather say yes to this? Why would he fight the loser of me and Logan?
“I was A-side for both fights, surely Mayweather would just wanna fight the winner of me vs Logan, it just makes more sense.
“Also, Logan Paul can’t sell tickets like me. We all remember how well his ‘Challenger Games’ sold.
    PAUL THE OTHER ONE
“Whenever I do events like the Sidemen football match, we sell thousands of tickets.

“I’m the bigger draw when it comes to boxing because I defeated the one who started it – Joe Weller – and defeated Logan Paul himself.
“So why would Mayweather want to fight second best when he could just easily fight the best?”
KSI’s former trainer Viddal Riley – who is promoted by Mayweather – confirmed Paul has held talks with ‘Money’ over a bout.
But he insisted that Mayweather should fight the Arsenal fan ahead of the Maverick.
He said: “One thing people are, you know, not seeming to understand, Floyd is fighting the loser of the situation.

“I think Tyson Fury is better tactically and the more technically equipped, but AJ is the all-rounder.

“I think both men are now at a stage where they’ve done so much and learned so much in their careers that they’re so neck and neck.

Dereck Chisora vs Oleksandr Usyk CONFIRMED for October 31 with Brit to finally take on P4P star after delayed bout

DERECK CHISORA will finally face pound-for-pound star Oleksandr Usyk with their fight confirmed to take place on October 31.
The pair had been scheduled to headline the 02 Arena on May 23, only for their bout to be postponed due to the coronavirus crisis.

    2

Oleksandr Usyk and Dereck Chisora will face each other next month

    2

But they will now pit their wits against each other on Halloween, with a venue to be announced shortly.
The winner will keep themselves on course for a WBO mandatory title fight against unified champion Anthony Joshua.
With the fight expected to take place in the UK, Usyk knows it is a place where he has experienced much joy in his career.
As well as scooping gold in the Olympics in London 2012, Usyk defended all four cruiserweight belts against Tony Bellew at Manchester Arena in 2018.

But he knows he faces a tough competitor in Chisora, who has blasted away Artur Szpilka and David Price in his last two contests.
Speaking of the upcoming dust-up, unbeaten Ukrainian Usyk said: “I have really missed boxing.
“I am working hard in my training camp to show a spectacular performance on October 31.
“I expect a real test in Dereck – he is strong, tough and resilient. He is a really big guy and he hits hard.

    FACE THE USYK
“As a cruiserweight, I reached the highest heights as undisputed champion and now I am following the same path as a heavyweight.
“I need to test myself against world class heavyweights on my new road to undisputed and Dereck stands in front of me. “Many people say that Dereck is a monster, but deep down he is a kind man. I don’t expect to see that good side of him.
“I know that he wants to break me, but I am water, wind and fire all together. Dereck Chisora, I am coming for you!”
Meanwhile Chisora roared: “Hello, Usyk, I’m ready for you, hello Usyk!
“Usyk, I’ve been ready for you all year. It’s my home turf and after such a tough year for everyone, I’m going to give the British public the Halloween party they deserve and finally get revenge for my boy Tony Bellew!”
Promoter Eddie Hearn said of the match-up: “Yesterday’s news from the Government was a kick in the nuts, so to bounce back with this fight at this time is so important for boxing.
“You’ve either got to sit back and say ‘it’s not possible’ or find a way to make it happen, and I’ve got to say a big thanks to Team Usyk, ‘Del Boy’ and David Haye for staying patient and helping get this over the line.

Seven UFC fighters who could cross over to boxing after Dana White hinted at big announcement in ‘next couple of weeks’

DANA WHITE hinted he is making an imminent move into boxing with a big announcement to come in ‘the next couple of weeks’.
The UFC president had revealed plans to launch Zuffa Boxing in 2017, before Conor McGregor lost to Floyd Mayweather.

    9

UFC president Dana White is eyeing a move into boxing

And despite the venture since being shelved, White recently told BT Sport: “And we’ll probably have something to announce here soon.
“Yeah [it is in the world of boxing]. When it’s time, I’ll let you know, I’m not ready yet. But [it’ll be] in the next couple of weeks.”
It sparked speculation White could again be preparing to bring some of his UFC stars over to boxing.
Here SunSport takes a look at seven UFC fighters who could swap the cage for the ring.

    Conor McGregor
McGregor, 32, is not the only UFC star to have laced up the gloves – but he’s certainly the most recognised.
His debut ended in a tenth-round defeat against Mayweather, but the ‘money-fight’ saw the Irishman pocket around £80m.
McGregor, who boxed as an amateur until he was 16, had vowed to return to the ring, eyeing a rematch with Mayweather, 43.
He has since hung up the gloves, but even in retirement the southpaw teased a lucrative boxing match against Manny Pacquiao.

    9

Conor McGregor lost his boxing debut against Floyd Mayweather
    Jorge Masvidal
Masvidal has been credited for possessing one of the best boxing abilities in the UFC.
It was the first sport he took up while achieving success as a street fighter in Miami.
The 35-year-old has a deep routed love for boxing and idolises Panamanian legend Roberto Duran – who walked him out before his win against Nate Diaz last November.
Masvidal, who has one pro boxing win, has shared an interest in lacing up the gloves, previously calling out Mayweather and more recently Canelo Alvarez.

The Diaz brothers have taken the fundamentals of a solid jab and slashing hooks to the body into the octagon with them.
Both have made a name for themselves sparring with pro boxers, especially Andre Ward.
Ward, a two-weight champ and modern great, sparred the brothers during his career and gave high praise to the two.
He said: “Those boys could do good in boxing. Anytime I’ve fought a left-hander I’ve had them over in camp.
“They lasted the whole camp, they can take it and dish it out.”

Before Miocic became heavyweight champion, he boxed as an amateur as well as wrestling at college.
He won the Cleveland Golden Gloves, and has taken it into his UFC career with 15 knockouts in 20 wins.
Miocic has opened the door to boxing before, even calling out champions Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua.
The 38-year-old said: “I would love to box. If there’s a chance I could fight Joshua or Fury or something like that, it’d be great.”

    9

Stipe Miocic won the Cleveland Golden Gloves as an amateur boxer
    Francis Ngannou
Another heavyweight eyeing a move into the ring is hard-hitter Ngannou, who has won 11 times by KO in 15 wins.
When the 34-year-old first started training aged 22, he wanted to be a boxer but transitioned into MMA as there was more chance to make money.
He told Mike Tyson he still dreams of making his boxing debut, and was linked with facing Dillian Whyte.
Ngannou has also sparred Brit Joe Joyce, while later calling out WBC king Fury.

    Dustin Poirier
After Poirier was beaten by McGregor in 2014, he moved up to lightweight, and has won ten of his last 13 fights.
A major part of the 31-year-old’s success was his improved boxing and power, so much so that he wants to spearhead Zuffa Boxing’s launch against either Nate Diaz or his brother.
Poirier told MMA Junkie in January: “I’d be willing to box him if they wanted to do that.
“I wish Zuffa Boxing was around and we’d have an opportunity – him and his brother were always talking about crossing over to boxing, I’d love to put the paws on him and show you guys my boxing skills.”

He even called out McGregor to a boxing match in 2017, telling ESPN: “No ill will towards the guy, but I actually believe I’m a better boxer.
“I feel like I’m one of the best boxers in the UFC. I’ll go in there and knock Conor the f*** out in a boxing ring, just to be honest.

Tyson Fury trilogy fight with Deontay Wilder will NOT go ahead without fans with overseas locations looked at by Warren

TYSON FURY’S trilogy fight with Deontay Wilder won’t take place without fans unless it’s staged outside of America and the UK.
After the Gypsy King first valiantly battled to a draw in December 2018 against the Bronze Bomber, he destroyed his rival in their rematch in February to claim the WBC title.

    2

Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder’s trilogy fight will not take place without fans and may not be in the USA or UKCredit: USA TODAY Sports

He is now on a collision course to unify the heavyweight division after verbally agreeing a two-fight deal to battle Anthony Joshua.
But first the 32-year-old must defend his belt against Wilder after the former champ invoked his clause for a trilogy fight.
December 19 in Las Vegas was the targeted date for that clash, but the ongoing lack of crowds due to the coronavirus pandemic is proving to be problematic.

    2

Now Fury’s UK-based promoter Frank Warren says it could be taken elsewhere as he stated it is not possible to have a fight that huge without a live audience ringside.

He told ITV’s Good Morning Britain: “Not a fight of that magnitude.
“Wilder and Fury was the highest grossing fight to ever take place in Vegas. We just can’t lose that gate. It’s a huge amount of money. We need the gate.
“Or we come up with a scenario where there is a huge site fee from a territory to take it, and we use it to promote their country. We are looking at those situations.”
The previous two showdowns between the pair took place in Vegas and Los Angeles, and the champ’s US-based promoter Bob Arum has said already he is working on a protocol with the Nevada commission to try and get a limited amount of fans in to watch.

Meanwhile, Arum has also mentioned China as a possible location.
Fury told ITV: “We are all working as a team to source a date and venue.
“Hopefully they will allow crowds in sooner or later. We are all working towards that goal at the moment.”
