Eddie Hearn wants to stage Wayne Rooney vs Rio Ferdinand charity BOXING match at Man Utd’s Old Trafford

EDDIE HEARN wants to host a charity boxing bout between Wayne Rooney and Rio Ferdinand at Old Trafford.
The Matchroom boss also teased the idea of luring Liverpool powerhouse Virgil van Dijk into the boxing ring.

Rooney, 34, and Ferdinand, 41, made a combined total of 1,014 appearances for Manchester United during their careers.
But Hearn has plans in the pipeline to bring the legendary duo back to Old Trafford one more time.
During a discussion with Van Dijk on his No Passion No Point podcast, the promoter asked: “Can I get you in the ring for a charity punch-up?

“Would you like to go and do three or four rounds with anyone in the Premier League?”
Van Dijk replied: “If I’m fighting, which class am I?
    “I’m like 90kg.”
Hearn responded: “Okay, you’re moving towards the cruiserweight limit.

“You [could be] a light-heavyweight, so you can fight Canelo Alvarez.

“I don’t know if you’ve heard of him? He’s not bad, I don’t think you’re going to beat him Virg.”
The ex-Southampton star said: “No, no, no, no, no chance.
“He’s too quick, he’s far too quick. What a fighter he is though.”
Before Hearn added: “I’d like to do Wayne Rooney against Rio Ferdinand at Old Trafford.
“Because they both think they can fight a bit, you know?
“And maybe me and you can talk after this podcast, you can get me a couple of the boys, Liverpool vs someone.
“I don’t think the gaffer would be too pleased with it.”
Ferdinand stunned his fans when he announced his plan to step into the ring in 2017 following his retirement.

He said: “Boxing is an amazing sport for the mind and the body.
“I have always had a passion for it and this challenge is the perfect opportunity to show what’s possible.”
He was then challenged to a bout by 16-stone footballer Adebayo Akinfenwa.
But he quit boxing before ever having a fight as he was refused a licence.

Floyd Mayweather reveals he was overweight for fight vs kickboxer Tensin Nasukawa and was told to ‘really go at it’

FLOYD MAYWEATHER has revealed he was out of shape and overweight for a fight in which he earned £2.5million a MINUTE.
The retired 50-0 king took on featherweight kickboxer Tenshin Nasukawa in an exhibition bout in 2018.

‘Money’ sent Nasukawa crashing to the canvas three times before the fight was called off.
It meant that, after guaranteeing himself a £7.6m payday for taking the fight, Mayweather made an obscene amount of money for just three minutes’ work.
And it could have been even more had Mayweather ended it sooner – with the five-weight world champ revealing he was told to ‘really go at it’ against his novice 20-year-old opponent.
World Boxing News carry quotes from Mayweather, 43, who spoke on the Club Shay Shay podcast.

Mayweather said: “Well, they told me in Japan. I was going to go over there. Just move around with the guy. Take it lightly.
“They said, ‘no, we want you to get in there and really go at it’.
“As you can see in that fight, I was a little heavy. I wasn’t working out like I am working out now.
“For that fight I wasn’t working out.

Mike Tyson’s amazing homes through his career, from a 21-bed mansion in Connecticut to an Ohio home that’s now a church

THROUGH the years, as Mike Tyson rose through the ranks to become heavyweight champion of the world, the boxing legend bought and sold some incredible homes.
‘Iron Mike’ came a long way from the humble beginnings of his childhood home in Brooklyn to mansions filled with tiger cages as millions of dollars poured in.

    19

    19

Mike Tyson has lived in the most amazing homes dotted all over America

After losing it all, Tyson, now 54, is once again worth millions after launching his company Tyson Holistic and flogging medical marijuana.
And he’s even in line for a comeback – the knockout king is set to face Roy Jones Jr in an exhibition fight on November 28.
But it’s his former homes that really amaze and show how the king of the ring loved living.
    NEW YORK
Tyson spent most of his childhood years in a modest apartment in Brooklyn in Brownsville in the mid 1970s.

It was a neighbourhood, at the time, that was a breeding ground for crime and most residents lived poorly.
In the past, Tyson has admitted mixing with criminals as he looked for acceptance and joined a gang of petty thieves.
But in his spare-time in the Brownsville abode, he became fascinated by pigeons.

He kept coops on the rooftop of the building and cared for the birds religiously.

Today, apartments in the area can fetch up to £500,000.
    OHIO
Tyson’s fall from grace began in 1992, when he was convicted of rape and was sentenced to six years in prison, of which he served three.
Financially drained, he was forced to sell this incredible home in 1999 for around £855,000.
Today, remarkably, it’s been converted into a church.
But in Tyson’s day it boasted five bedrooms and a full-size pool and Jacuzzi alongside its tiger cages and basketball court, with the entire pad decked out with crystal chandeliers.
The delipidated pool has since been turned into a sanctuary while the living room is now a gathering place.
Remnants of the 53-year-old’s time still remain with the basketball court still intact, as well as Mike Tyson’s name etched onto the front gate.

The old fireplace has since been turned into an indoor waterfall while the four-bay garage is now classrooms and a nursery.
And the tall steel cages where Tyson kept his famous four tigers have been dismantled for a pavilion.
    CONNECTICUT
In 2003, Tyson was declared bankrupt.
That meant he had to sell up again – and a 52-room mansion in Connecticut he used to live in was eventually bought by rapper 50 Cent for £3.3million.
Boasting 21 bedrooms, as well as its own nightclub the property is as lavish as Tyson has ever owned.
The 50,000-square-foot property also has 25 bathrooms, an indoor pool and hot tub, an indoor basketball court, multiple game rooms, a green-screen room, and a recording studio.
And the opulence doesn’t end there.
Entering the property through a stately front gate, you’re greeted by a lion statue.
However, the running costs – believed to be around £50,000-per-month – forced 50 Cent to sell the house in 2019.

    MARYLAND
Tyson’s Maryland residence was bought with ex-wife Monica Turner in 1995.
The pair lived there through the early 2000s, until the pair divorced after she claimed he committed adultery.
Turner won the house in the divorce settlement, which is just 30 minutes from Washington DC.
It features seven bedrooms, a large gym, game room, swimming pool, sports court and a piano room.
It also overlooks the Congressional Country Club golf course, which has hosted several US Open tournaments.
Back in May, the home was listed for sale at £7million.

    THE HANGOVER PAD
In 2008, Tyson let Hollywood film director Todd Phillips into his £1.5million Las Vegas pad to film legendary scenes from the hit comedy movie.
And what a lavish setting it is too.
Found in the beautiful gated community called Seven Hills in the suburb of Henderson, it boasts six bedrooms, six-and-a-half bathrooms and its own private balcony.
There’s also the incredible 18-hole Rio Secco Golf Club to enjoy, as well as four large private parks filled with basketball courts, tennis courts and football pitches.
Like many new builds in Las Vegas within gated communities, the 5,740-square-feet mansion was built in an Italian style in 2001.
Two-storeys in size, the entrance opens to a grand reception room with a 25-foot-high lit waterfall, which connects to the great room that has a wet bar and fireplace.
Tyson lived in the property with third wife Lakiha, eventually selling it in 2016.

    HIS CURRENT HOME
Today, back at the top, Tyson lives a life of luxury once more. And he loves living in Henderson, Las Vegas.
Shortly after he sold ‘The Hangover’ home, he bought this nearby mansion for £2.5million.
The 8,149 square-foot mansion in Henderson, Nevada, built in 2001, has plenty of indoor and outside space.
There are six spacious bedrooms and six bathrooms in his mediterranean-style villa.
Again, it’s found in the gated community of Seven Hills – so it’s surrounded by parks and tennis and basketball courts.

Secret texts before Anthony Joshua defeat to Ruiz revealed as American agreed to become sparring partner ahead of win

ANDY RUIZ JR almost became Anthony Joshua’s sparring partner before stepping in to beat the previously undefeated Brit.
Ruiz Jr shocked the world after replacing Jarrell Miller to become the first man to beat AJ with a seventh-round TKO win at Madison Square Garden in June 2019.

Then Joshua returned to win back his IBF, WBA and WBO belts in the rematch six months later.
However, Joshua’s training camp manager David Ghansa has revealed secret text messages show the American was almost a sparring partner for AJ during preparation for his intended bout with Miller, who failed a drugs test in the lead-up to the fight.
Ghansa said: “When he was meant to fight Miller, I put together a list.
“On that list was Ruiz Jr.

“I sent that list to Eddie Hearn and asked to make contact with those guys.
“Andy hadn’t replied to my messages.
“Eddie messaged him and, within 10 minutes, showed me a screenshot of Ruiz Jr’s reply.
“He wanted to know the dates and for how long he would be needed.

“So Ruiz Jr was meant to come to our camp to be a sparring partner when AJ was supposed to fight Miller.

“When Miller then failed a drug test, Ruiz Jr messaged Eddie and said, ‘I don’t want to come for sparring, I want my name in the hat to fight AJ’.
“This is the problem we have. There aren’t that many guys. At the time, he fit the bill.”
Joshua won the rematch between the pair in Saudi Arabia by unanimous decision to reclaim his heavyweight champion status.
Ghansa, who as training camp manager sources the 23-1 fighter’s sparring partners, also revealed Deontay Wilder had been contacted to spar AJ in 2016, despite being a defending WBC champion.
Ghansa said: “We asked Wilder to spar once, this was just after AJ beat [Charles] Martin.
“Wilder was in Sheffield getting ready to fight Alexander Povetkin.
“AJ and Wilder weren’t really on each other’s radars, at the time.
“Wilder’s response was, ‘Champs don’t spar champs’.”
It has been confirmed Joshua will spar with Joe Joyce for his upcoming title defence against Bulgarian Kubrat Pulev, before two highly-anticipated encounters with WBC champion Tyson Fury next year.

Mike Tyson is ‘intelligent and articulate’ as it’s revealed what the ‘Baddest Man on the Planet’ is like out of ring

MIKE TYSON is a completely different animal outside of the ring, according to former boxing world champ Johnny Nelson.
The former heavyweight superstar earned a fierce reputation as the ‘Baddest Man on the Planet’ during his illustrious career.

Tyson, 54, was also tarnished with a string of controversies including domestic abuse, drug and alcohol addiction, and sentenced to six years in prison after being found guilty of rape.
But Nelson, a former cruiserweight world champion, claims Tyson is a completely changed man from his former self.
He told talkSPORT: “Mike now looks back on his career and he doesn’t recognise the ‘Baddest Man on the Planet’.
“He’s been able to break it down and understand what his problems were and why he was the way he was.

“So he’s never going to be that guy again. It’s always there [in him] but he won’t be him because he knows what drove him that way.
“With experience you get wisdom. Off the camera, he’s a very, very intelligent guy, trust me. He’s a very articulate guy and one sharp cookie.
“If you go on YouTube, he’s actually in Hamburg doing a seminar and talking about philosophy, politics, religion, war mongers and so many things you’d never expect.
“And it was like bam, bam, bam! This guy is so on it.

Tyson is in terrific shape ahead of his exhibition fight
“He will blow your mind if you really get to know him. So when I saw that I was like ‘get in there, Mike’. He’s a lot more than people give him credit for.”
Tyson is making a sensational return to the ring in an exhibition against Roy Jones Jr on November 28.
He has worked himself back into incredible shape for the fight against the fellow veteran.
And Nelson believes fans will need to lower their expectations if they think it will be an all out brawl.
He added: “You have two completely different characters fighting each other now compared to the nostalgic ones we all think about.

Tyson Fury set for December PPV in UK after BT Sport cough up to put on Daniel Dubois vs Joe Joyce in November

DANIEL DUBOIS and Joe Joyce will finally settle the score on November 28 – leaving Tyson Fury free for a Christmas cracker.
The battle for Dynamite Dubois’ British and Commonwealth heavyweight titles was scheduled to be a pay-per-view slugfest at a packed O2 in April but Covid-19 floored those money-spinning plans.

So broadcasters BT Sport have dug deep to put the show on behind closed doors for their standard subscribers and make up the wedge a live gate would have guaranteed.
That is likely to mean WBC heavyweight king Fury WILL now fight in the UK in a behind-closed-doors bout in December that will be a PPV homecoming.
Promoter Frank Warren appeared to aim a dig at rivals Eddie Hearn and Sky Sports, who are set for three PPV shows involving Derek Chisora, Dillian Whyte and Anthony Joshua before Christmas.
The Queensbury boss said: “This is about keeping boxing alive and relevant at a tough time and doing something for the fans and we have moved heaven and earth to put this on as a BT Sport subscription Fight Night instead.

“With boxing still being behind closed doors and struggling back to its feet post-lockdown, I wanted to give something of a gift to British boxing fans.
“Dubois versus Joyce is the best fight on the British boxing calendar and I want this to be something as many people as possible can enjoy.
“It’s a bonus that the added exposure gained from the fight will really help the boxers as they move forward with their careers.
“Above all, this is about making sure that the fans are looked after and this fight will be available to BT Sport subscribers.

Tyson Fury faked injuries to catch SPY in camp before Wilder win as Gypsy King’s training secrets are leaked

TYSON FURY would FAKE injuries to catch out members of his team leaking stories to the press before fighting Deontay Wilder, his trainer has claimed.
Andy Lee assisted Sugar Hill Steward in preparing the Gypsy King for the stunning eight-round TKO win in Las Vegas and has opened up on how Fury acts behind the scenes.

    2

Lee (left) helped coach Fury to his heavyweight title win in FebruaryCredit: Reuters

Among the heavyweight champ’s tricks are his fun with feigning injuries in an attempt to trick any potential moles in his camp.
Lee told Boxing Social: “There was a couple of days where Tyson messed around, just to see if leaks would happen.
“He feigned injury or pretended to limp a little bit after the sparring session just to see what would happen.
“That’s the type of level of deviousness you’re dealing with, with him. Inside his own training camp where he’ll put on a show and play act to see if anyone talks outside the camp.”

Indeed, Fury was seen limping onto the stage for his weigh-in ahead of facing Braun Strowman in WWE last year – a fight he won without any apparent injury.
And Lee himself confesses to having been worried by a potential issue that was simply the 32-year-old “messing around”.
The trainer noted: “One day he pretended to have a bicep injury, he pretended to shake out his hand after training and I was really concerned.
“He was like, ‘Did you see what I did there? I was just messing around’.

Everyone says you have to take it with a pinch of salt, but Fury performed perfectly in training.”

“I was like ‘Oh, this is a joke’ – I was really concerned about his bicep but it wasn’t a problem.”
Lee, who himself won 35 of his 39 fights as a professional, paid tribute to Fury’s attitude in his preparation for the world title rematch.
Fury made numerous headlines in the fight build-up by claiming to be undertaking some bizarre training methods.
As well as dipping his hands in petrol, the Gypsy King asserted that he was masturbating seven times per day and strengthening his jaw by “licking p***y”.
But Lee paints a very different picture of the fighter – who is finally set to fight Anthony Joshua.

He continued: “Everyone says you have to take it with a pinch of salt, but he performed perfectly in training.
“He worked extremely hard, people might be surprised because they see the larger than life character, but when it comes to training he is very focused and very serious about what he does.
“He didn’t cut any corners or allow any small treats or small mercies, he just stuck to his diet as strict as can be with his eating, his sleep and everything he did.
“Maybe he had to, because he knew the fight he was in, but it was worth it.”
