Lomachenko vs Lopez Tale of the Tape: How the two lightweights stack up for Saturday’s massive unification fight

VASILIY LOMACHENKO has the stage to put on another boxing masterclass this weekend – but many are predicting a tough night at the office.
The Ukrainian boxer – ranked as one of the best pound-for-pound in the world – fights unbeaten Teofimo Lopez at the MGM Grand Conference Center in Nevada.

    3

If Lomachenko wins, he will add Lopez’s IBF belt to his WBO, WBA and WBC ‘franchise’ belts to become undisputed champ.
But Lopez will surely not go down without a fight, and is determined to shock the world.
And he is the one going into the fight without a loss on his record.
Lomachenko won a world title in just his third pro fight when he secured a majority decision against Gary Russell Jr.

But the fight before that he was on the wrong end of a split decision against Orlando Salido.
But since that defeat, the 32-year-old has looked untouchable, showing footwork and body movements not seen in the sport before.
Last time out he defeated a brave but ultimately outclassed Luke Campbell to retain his titles.
Lopez, nine years younger than Lomachenko, has looked similarly destructive in the squared circle.

The Brooklyn brawler has 12 KO’s from his 15 bouts, the last coming against Richard Commey in December that saw him pick up the IBF title.
Many believe his right hand counter can find the gaps in Lomachenko’s defence – let’s not forget Loma was put on the seat of his pants by Jorge Linares in 2018 before claiming a late stoppage win.
Lomachenko is heavy odds-on favourite at 1/4 to win with Betfair.
While punters can back Lopez at 10/3 to win, with a draw being priced at 22/1.

Ripped Mike Tyson looks in incredible shape as Roy Jones Jr shows off fast hands in sparring ahead of fight

MIKE TYSON looks a lean, mean knockout machine ahead of his comeback fight against Roy Jones Jr.
But Iron Mike’s opponent for their November 28 blockbuster is looking no slouch himself, as his rapid training video shows.

There is just over a month to go until Tyson, 54, and Jones Jr, 51, get it on at Dignity Health Sports Park in California.
And both men look in simply incredible shape considering they have a combined age of 105.
Tyson, while not as bulked up as his prime heavyweight days, is the envy of men 30 years younger than him with an eye-catching six pack.
And while ex-middleweight and heavyweight king Jones Jr – who admits he could die in the fight – kept his top on for training, the amount of work he put in was evident in his sweat-soaked T-shirt.

Tyson wrote alongside his latest sparring clip: “What do you have to be in order to be brave? You have to be afraid to be brave.
“That’s what makes people say you’re brave, because they know you’re afraid.
“And now you’re facing something that’s unnatural to be facing, but you control your fear and you face it.”
Jones Jr – who is set to retire for good after the fight – spared fans the psychobabble in his latest video.

Roy Jones Jr admits ‘death is a possibility’ ahead of Mike Tyson fight but would ‘die a happy man’ if boxing killed him

ROY JONES JR admitted ‘death is a possibility’ as he prepares to step into the ring with Mike Tyson.
But the veteran boxer, 51, added that he is so committed to the sport that he would not be ‘mad’ at dying for it.

Jones Jr will face Iron Mike in their comeback exhibition bout on November 28.
And despite the dangers of fighting in their older years, Captain Hook is willing to put his body on the line.
He said: “You get hit by someone like Mike Tyson anything can happen to you.
“Mike Tyson is not just an ordinary puncher. He’s one of those guys that can do just that to you.

“So, you should know what you’re going into and you should be ready for that because this is Mike.
“For me, I don’t really give a damn, I fight for a living.
“I ain’t trippin’ at all because I know death is a possibility. Yeah, that can happen to anybody.
“And I know it can happen to me even more going in there with somebody as dangerous as Mike Tyson.”

Jones Jr began his professional career way back in May 1989 and was crowned heavyweight champion of the world four years later.
He fought a whopping 75 times in a career that spanned virtually three decades with his last pro bout in February 2018 as he beat Scott Sigmon to take his record to 66-9.
But now into his 50s, Jones Jr knows the risk is increasing – but said dying through boxing would make him ‘die a happy man’.
He added: “Problem with me is, why I love and why I do what I do, because I love boxing.
“So if I gotta die boxing, I die a happy man.

I know that people get hurt in boxing, some people don’t make it out alive
    Roy Jones Jr

“There’s probably one or two others ways I’d like to go – but if I went that way, I’m not mad at that.
“Because I knew that when I started boxing, I know that people get hurt in this, some people don’t make it out alive.
“So, if that’s how you’ve got to go, you’ve got to know that.
“But if you’re not that game and not that committed to what you’re doing, then you shouldn’t be talking to me about boxing.

Derek Chisora having such a hard time finding sparring partners similar to Oleksandr Usyk he’ll pay £1,000 to all-comers

DEREK CHISORA is having such a nightmare hunting down Oleksandr Usyk-style sparring partners that David Haye is offering £1,000 for someone to chin him.
The heavyweight, 36, takes on the Ukraine superstar on Halloween as the big underdog, thanks to the southpaw’s Olympic 2012 gold and undisputed reign as world cruiserweight champion.

Usyk’s freakish qualities have made it a problem for Del Boy and his financial advisor Haye to book suitable sparring.
So the Hayemaker posted an open invitation on Twitter on Tuesday – offering cash incentives for someone to walk in and chin his man.
Speaking after a recent pheasant hunt, Chisora said: “I am getting my fitness right.
“But sparring is hard because there is nobody out there who can spar like him, who can box and move like him.

“You just don’t know what to expect this guy to do in the ring.
“But I don’t think he is going to find it very easy to prepare for Derek Chisora.
“I haven’t been doing any of that juggling, mind-training stuff he does — that’s just for sissies.

Eddie Hearn’s Fight Camp garden shows have closed for the winter, so the Halloween bout needs an indoor venue.
Wembley Arena is the front runner for a string of high-profile fights and the area does have a special place in the reformed bad boy’s heart – because it hosted his debut almost 14 years ago.
The Hampstead man said: “Wembley is only around the corner from my house, so it is really special.
“Wembley has changed so much since my debut there.
“It’s more like Madison Square Garden now, with the new England football ground and huge developments around the area.
“How different am I to the guy who made his debut there?
“I am a bit different in some ways, because I have white hairs on my chin I didn’t have back then.
“But I am a lot different in other ways because I am a dad now, I have matured a little bit.”
Chisora has done some wild things in the past to help sell tickets and boost his paydays.
But he has taken a whack to the wallet to get this thriller on for the fans who have supported him through his rollercoaster 32-9 career.
He added: “With everything that is happening in the world, you should be just happy for the chance to fight.
“I know a lot of fighters who cannot fight and are struggling.
“It’s something to look forward to and then people have the Dillian Whyte and Alexander Povetkin rematch.
“Then it is Anthony Joshua vs Kubrat Pulev and then Christmas, so hopefully we kick off a happier period for everyone.
“It wasn’t about money, it was about getting back in the ring and doing what I love.”

Tyson Fury called out by Otto Wallin for December 5 rematch after Swede left Gypsy King with horror two-inch cut in 2019

TYSON FURY has been called out by Otto Wallin for a December 5 rematch.
The Swede heavyweight left Fury requiring 47 stitches after their fight in September 2019.

And with the Gypsy King searching for an opponent to face in the UK before the end of the year, Wallin believes he has earned another shot at the unbeaten champion.
He said, per Boxing Scene: “I deserve a rematch based on my performance vs Fury last year.
“I did much better vs Fury than Wilder did, better than anybody who has faced Fury and I’m ready to take Wilder’s place.
“I’ve been working very hard since last year and I believe I’ve improved with the experience from fighting Fury and with all the work I’ve put in since that fight.”

Fury, 32, suffered the gruesome two inch gash against Wallin, 29, following a hook in round three of their bloody Las Vegas bout.
The Gypsy King would go on to grind out a points win, before going on to challenge Deontay Wilder.
Fury then dethroned Wilder, 34, of the WBC title this February but has decided against fulfilling their contracted rematch.
Having already agreed a two-fight deal with Anthony Joshua, 30, for 2021, the 6ft 9in Brit wants to fight in December.

Mike Tyson’s most controversial moments, from serving time in prison to biting Holyfield’s ear and drug addiction hell

IT’S no wonder Hollywood loves his story too.
Mike Tyson, 54, if he’s not already immortalised through boxing, will have his name in lights with a biopic – and Oscar-winning actor Jamie Foxx taking on the lead role.

    14

And it will, surely, feature Iron Mike’s most controversial moments during what has been the most colourful career a sports star could ever have.
Accusations of being violent towards a former wife, a self-confessed addiction to cocaine and a rape conviction that led to time behind bars add to his mystique outside the ring.
In the ring, he famously bit the ear off an opponent and spat it out – and bragged about putting opponents in a body bag.
Controversy has dogged Tyson, set to make his long-awaited comeback on November 28 in an exhibition fight against Roy Jones Jr, throughout his life.

    YOUNG THUG
Tyson grew up in modest surroundings in Brooklyn and immediately fell into trouble.
Constantly bullied as a kid because of his weight and a lisp, he found his identity by robbing houses, beating people up and doing drugs.
He ran with the local Rutland Road crew – a gang of youths who called themselves the ‘Cats’.
He claimed in his book Undisputed Truth that he snorted his first line of coke aged 11.

Before he turned 13, Tyson had been arrested an astonishing 38 times.

    14

Later, he would spend time in and out of a juvenile detention centre in the Bronx called Spofford.
At 14, Tyson met legendary trainer Cus D’Amato – who channeled the boy’s aggression and moulded him into the meanest fighter the world has ever seen.
Cus gave Tyson a mantra – “The best fighter in the world. Nobody can beat me,” which the aspiring boxer would repeat over and over again.
    TRAPPINGS OF FAME
As Tyson became one of the most famous and wealthiest sports stars on the planet, he had women throwing themselves at him.
His most explosive love affair was with first wife Robin Givens from 1988 to 1989.
They married 11 months after their first date, on which they were reportedly joined by her mother and publicist.
According to Tyson, they had a hastily arranged wedding when Givens announced she was pregnant.
He had already given Givens and her mum £3million to buy a New Jersey estate, as well as put £6.5million in another account for the pair.
But shortly after money was exchanged, Robin told Mike she’d had a miscarriage.

The pair later appeared in a cringe-worthy interview with US journalist Barbara Walters, where Givens revealed her three-month marriage to Tyson was “torture, pure hell, worse than anything I could possibly imagine”.
Asked if Tyson ever hit her, Givens said: “He shakes, he pushes, he… swings. Sometimes I think he’s trying to scare me.
“There were times that it happened that I thought I could handle it, and just recently, I have become afraid. I mean, very, very much afraid.”
Givens filed for divorce soon after the interview.
Years later, Tyson admitted in another book Fire and Fear: The Inside Story of Mike Tyson that Givens was on the receiving end of the best punch he’s ever thrown.
    CAREER IN TATTERS
In 1991, Tyson was arrested for the rape of 18-year-old model Desiree Washington, a former Miss Black Rhode Island, in a hotel room in Indianapolis.
He was soon put on trial at the Marion County superior court, with his career and future in jeopardy.
Washington’s story was corroborated by Tyson’s then-chauffeur Virginia Foster, who revealed the beauty’s state of shock moments after the incident.
ER physician Thomas Richardson, who examined Washington, provided further testimony that her physical condition was consistent with rape.

Despite Tyson’s protestations that Washington had given him full consent, he was sentenced to six years in prison in 1992 along with four years of probation.
He was just 25 at the time and it looked like he had wasted his early potential.
    SEX OFFENDER
In the past, Tyson has been open about his sexual endeavours.
He confessed to enjoying orgies and sleeping with multiple women in his heyday.
And in prison he got his fix too.
Random female visitors would visit him in prison just to have sex with him, which he happily obliged with.
Then, Tyson got involved with a prison drug counsellor after he gave her around £8,000 to fix her roof.
”I was having so much sex that I was too tired to even to go the gym and work out,” Tyson wrote.
“I’d just stay in my cell all day.”

    HOLYFIELD SCANDAL
After serving three years of his sentence, Tyson was on the comeback trail and regained his crown as the king of the heavyweight division.
He dispensed of Peter McNeeley, Buster Mathis Jr, Frank Bruno and Bruce Seldon with ease – winning both the WBC and WBA belts along the way.
However, he met his match against Evander Holyfield.
After losing the first fight, the rematch became infamous for a shocking moment that shook the boxing world.
At the end of the third round, Tyson was disqualified for biting Holyfield on both ears.
The final chomp was so severe a piece of Holyfield’s right ear was found on the ring floor after the fight.
Tyson’s purse was suspended, his boxing licence was rescinded and he was fined around £2million.

    DETACHABLE PENIS
Tyson has admitted his problems with drug abuse – most notably cocaine.
He used throughout his career, even before big fights as his habit spiralled out of control.
“I was a full-blown cokehead,” Tyson said in Undisputed Truth.
“The history of war is the history of drugs. Every great general and warrior from the beginning of time was high.”
And Tyson found a novel way to cheat drug tests, while he snorted lines of powder before stepping in the ring.
He would use a fake penis filled with someone else’s urine he and his entourage called the ‘whizzer’.
However, the ‘whizzer’ failed him in 2000 when he tested positive for marijuana and was fined £150,000.

    NOW A DRUG DEALER
After finding redemption in Hollywood – starring in films including The Hangover – Tyson has rebuilt his life.
But it’s by drugs – once his scourge – he’s now making his millions from.
In 2016, he set up Tyson Holistic – selling cannabis products as potent as one of his uppercuts.
Tyson is believed to earn around £500,000-per-month through his business – based in California where growing and selling cannabis products is regulated and legal – that offers premium marijuana strains, edibles and extracts.
In 2019, he launched a small pop-up music extravaganza he called the Kind Music Festival.
He walked around the site, greeting revellers, who enjoyed acts including Miguel and A$AP Ferg, while smoking joints.

Tyson Fury rejected Deontay Wilder trilogy in January or February to fight THIS YEAR and prepare for Anthony Joshua bout

TYSON FURY rejected the chance to fight Deontay Wilder in early 2021 to instead return this year and focus on facing Anthony Joshua.
The Gypsy King was contracted to a trilogy bout against Wilder, having dethroned the American in February.

But the coronavirus pandemic has driven paying fans away from the sport and as a result delayed the immediate rematch, which was set for December.
With Fury having already verbally agreed a double header against Joshua for 2021, he rejected the chance to face Wilder in January or February.
It instead allows him to prepare for the potential undisputed title decider by arranging a winter warm-up fight in the UK.
Fury’s US promoter Bob Arum said: “We lost December 19, the networks suggested the end of January or the end of February.

“They gave us two dates. And Fury said, ‘No. I wanna fight this year. And then I’m going on and fighting Joshua.’
“And under his contract, he had every right to do that. There’s not even a question.
“He didn’t even have to wait until December 19, which was the original date, because the contract ran out in October.”
With Wilder’s right to an immediate rematch said to be expired, Arum warned Fury has no legal obligation to fulfil a third fight with the 34-year-old.

He said: “There’s definitely no legal recourse for them. Are they gonna complain? Sure.
“You’ve gotta understand, the reason there was this very certain window for the rematch, that some people might say was a small window, is that it was negotiated by both sides.
“And as I recall it, they thought they were gonna win, so they wanted as small a window as possible to get rid of the third fight, so they would go on and not be burdened.
“So, it wasn’t like we insisted that the window be very small to do the third fight, because we didn’t know we were gonna win the fight.”
If the WBC grants Fury permission to defend his belt against another challenger, he could do so the same month as Joshua.
Unified champion AJ, 30, faces Bulgarian mandatory challenger Kubrat Pulev, 39, in December.
And Frank Warren has lined up Fury, 32, for a homecoming, which will be the unbeaten heavyweight’s first fight on home soil since August 2018.

Five man shortlist to fight Tyson Fury revealed by promoter Bob Arum including unbeaten 20-0 star Agit Kabayel

TYSON FURY has a five-man shortlist for his homecoming fight on December 5.
The WBC champ has walked away from his trilogy fight with Deontay Wilder after growing tired of repeated Covid and injury-related postponements.

The Gypsy King has demanded a fight before 2021 and British promoter Frank Warren must now find him a dance partner on just eight weeks’ notice.
With Fury hopeful of fighting Anthony Joshua in a mega-money bout in 2021, the 32-year-old will not want to risk a shock defeat or a serious cut, like the 47-stitch gash he suffered against Otto Wallin.
But US promoter Bob Arum has named a heavy-handed list of candidates who could cause the undefeated champion problems.
It includes German former European champ Agit Kabayel, who has arguably the best record at 20-0, as well as much-avoided former cruiserweight Michael Hunte and Efe Ajagba, a raw Nigerian powerhouse.

Colombian former kickboxer Oscar Rivas fancies the challenge – especially after his loss to Dillian Whyte last year – with former heavyweight champ Charles Martin an outside bet.
Arum has his personal preferences for keeping the money in-house, the veteran matchmaker said.
He told iFL TV: “Five guys who are possible. There’s Efe, the African is there.
“There’s Agit, Rivas is there and there are two others that are there.

“We’ll have to pick out, see who’s available and pick it out.

“I mean, Rivas and Efe are Top Rank fighters, and I’m sure we could arrange for them to be available.”

Fury also beat Hunter in the amateurs ,but the American has always insisted he was robbed on the UK show and would love a shot at revenge.
Martin is the former IBF king Anthony Joshua beat for his first world title in 2016, but he is managed by rival promoters PBC making a late-notice deal unlikely.
Kabayel’s most high-profile win was the 2017 shock decision over Derek Chisora but the 28-year-old has failed to kick on from that upset and notched just three more wins in Germany.
