Conor Benn admits he couldn’t follow dad Nigel’s wild lifestyle in today’s world as he prepares to become a father

DAD-TO-BE Conor Benn will not leave the next Benneration any unanswered questions about his career.
The British welterweight, 24, and girlfriend Victoria are set to make his legendary father and former two-weight world champion Nigel a proud grandad in early 2021.

    10

Conor Benn announced his partner Victoria is pregnant

Dark Destroyer Nigel, 56, infamously became middle and super-middleweight king while juggling a wild personal life, smoking 20-a-day, puffing cannabis and popping ecstasy.
Clean-living Conor has no idea how he managed it.
And he refuses to dwell on whether his dad might have beaten rivals like Chris Eubank and Steve Collins with a bit more dedication.
But he knows he will leave the hurt business with no hangover, no comedown and no regrets.

    10

Benn Jr takes on German Sebastian Formella on the undercard of Dillian Whyte v Alexander Povetkin 2 on November 21.
He said of his dad: “It baffles me how he achieved what he did with the lifestyle he was living.
“Maybe that is what made him the fighter he was?
“If you take away from one element, do you detract from another?

“There are loads of fighters from the past who burned the candle at both ends but it made them the fighters they were, for some reason.
“I don’t know how my dad lived the way he did but it does make me realise he is a special type of man.
“I do sometimes sit down and wonder what he would have been like if he boxed today, with the sports science and lifestyles that fighters have.
“My body is a temple and health is your wealth.
“I have not wasted this lockdown. I have been on weight the whole time and have not stopped training.
“Everyone will see with this next fight what we have been working on and how much I have put in to get to the level I want to be at.”
Benn has had a target on his tattooed back since he made his professional debut on the undercard when Anthony Joshua won his first world title against Charles Martin back in 2016.

The list of older and more experienced welterweights who have tried to undermine and offer out Benn is endless but he is trying to rise above all the nonsense.
He added: “The biggest difference between me and the rest of the British welterweights is I wish them well.
“I see people slagging me off and I can’t imagine feeling that way towards somebody.
“I want all the Brits to do well, so the domestic welterweight scene is respected as much as the American one.
“I want the British welterweight division to be the best in the world and don’t understand why they don’t share that vision.
“These domestic welterweights need to stay in their lane, better themselves and then we can have big domestic fights when they have something to bring to the table.
“I am a big-money fight in this country but I am not letting them use me.”

Roy Jones Jr, 51, reveals he has been visited by VADA for ‘regular fight testing’ ahead of facing 54-year-old Mike Tyson

ROY JONES JR revealed he has been visited by anti-doping testers ahead of his fight against Mike Tyson.
The American legend claimed the eight-round exhibition on November 28 will have “regular fight testing”.

Roy Jones Jr has been visited by anti-doping testers ahead of his fight against Tyson

And the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association (VADA) have already taken a pre-fight sample from the 51-year-old.
Jones told Joe Rogan: “They said they were doing regular fight testing, so just how they would do in a normal fight.
“We’re going to get tested as though we were regular athletes, as though we were fighting a regular sanctioned fight.
“VADA has already been to my house once.

“If you ain’t got it in those 51-years of life, then too bad, you ain’t getting it.”
Tyson, who retired in 2005, has dramatically transformed his body since picking up the gloves again.
Jones on the other hand only retired two years ago, off the back of four wins, against unfamiliar opponents.
The pay-per-view spectacle will now be over two minute rounds, instead of the regular three.

Jones said the WBC were involved in the decision.
And they were influenced after watching the exhibition bout between Julio Cesar Chavez, 58, and Jorge Arce, 41, who were both exhausted after four rounds.
Jones said: “They decided this just last week.  They change stuff on me by the week.
“I think the WBC came in and said they want to put up some kind of title or something, so they want to cut it back to two minute rounds.
“They said something about the Arce and Chavez Sr fight, how fatigued they were after the fight and they feel like that’s a safety measure.

“But what they don’t realise is that the longer you keep Mike fresh, the more dangerous that is for me.
“I need to get Mike un-fresh quick, so that I can get out this danger zone.
“(Chavez Sr) and Arce fought a ‘true’ exhibition with headgear and big gloves, but they said they were so exhausted afterwards, that they felt that is what could inhibit somebody’s health.
“I want it to be three minute rounds, it’s safer for me.”

Deontay Wilder claims Tyson Fury trilogy is NOT off as promoter Shelly Finkel insists ‘we’ll fight any date, any place’

DEONTAY WILDER is still holding out hope of facing Tyson Fury and will ‘fight any date, any place’.
Wilder, who was beaten by Fury in February, was contracted to an immediate rematch.

    3

But the coronavirus pandemic has so far prevented live crowds from purchasing tickets and as a result delayed the trilogy.
Fury is now fed up of waiting and has called to fight in December in the UK to prepare for an undisputed title decider against Anthony Joshua next year.
It leaves 34-year-old Wilder, who is still training to win back the WBC belt, out in the cold, but his co-promoter insists they still wish to face Fury.
Shelly Finkel told ESPN: “Deontay and I would like to have the next fight, as planned, against Fury.

“We’ll fight him any date, any place.”
Fury’s US promoter Bob Arum claimed Wilder’s rematch clause expired this month.
It would leave Fury, 32, free to fight by the end of the year before then focussing on WBA, IBF and WBO champion Joshua, 30.

Conor McGregor’s greatest rivalries and best feuds including Khabib bus attack and Floyd Mayweather public bust-ups

CONOR McGREGOR has been at the centre of some of the most incredible moments inside – and outside – of the UFC octagon.
And the Irishman even upset plenty of boxing purists when he swapped fighting codes to face Floyd Mayweather in the ring three years ago.

    6

Khabib Nurmagomedov and Conor McGregor endured a bitter feudCredit: Getty – Contributor

McGregor has four times shattered the UFC’s pay-per-view record thanks to bitter and hyped pre-fight build ups.
And the former two-weight champion has proven value for money with great highs and devastating lows in the cage.
Here SunSport takes a look at the Irishman’s greatest rivalries and feuds.
    Khabib Nurmagomedov
Before Khabib and McGregor sold 2.4m PPV’s – the most in UFC history – the animosity had already reached boiling point.

McGregor got himself arrested in April 2018, six months before their fight, after attacking a bus which had Nurmagomedov inside.
When the lightweight title fight was announced, The Notorious wasted no time in attacking his rival, mocking his religion, family and entourage.
But McGregor was made to pay for his words, after tapping out in round four of their grudge match.
Soon after, a post-fight brawl between both teams erupted outside and inside the octagon.

It has fulled demand for a rematch, with McGregor and Khabib still eager to settle the score.

McGregor was in line to challenge for the lightweight belt in March 2016, but Rafael dos Anjos pulled out with a foot injury.
It allowed Diaz to step in on 11 days’ notice with the fight moved to a welterweight headliner – and immediately the pair clashed.
The pre-fight build up was intense with back and forth verbals, but McGregor was silenced as he gassed out in round two and submitted.
He remained humble after his first UFC defeat but demanded a rematch, which he received five months later.
McGregor would enact revenge at UFC 202 in a five round thriller, setting up a trilogy and building silent respect between the two.
Both stars have since gone their separate ways, but the door is still open for the rubber match.

    6

    Floyd Mayweather
McGregor put his UFC career on hold in 2017 to prepare for his lucrative pro boxing debut against Mayweather.
The UFC superstar was full of brash promises and predictions before the fight, which would see his odds of winning slashed to 4/1.
McGregor insisted that Mayweather was ‘too small’ and after the gloves were changed from 10oz to 8oz he said the unbeaten legend would only last two rounds.
In the end, the ring novice chalked up an early lead – as Mayweather toyed with him – but tired as the bout went on and would be stopped in round ten.
McGregor’s confidence seems not to have taken a dent, having repeatedly called for a rematch.
Before his last win, against Donald Cerrone in January, the southpaw returned to his first amateur boxing coaches and feels he now has the guidance to beat Mayweather.

    6

    Paulie Malignaggi
Before McGregor’s ‘money-fight’ with Mayweather, a now infamous sparring session with Malignaggi threatened to steal the headlines.
Malignaggi stormed out of the Dubliner’s camp after pictures and footage leaked – including a disputed knockdown of the retired boxer.
The pair even came to ahead during a press conference before Mayweather fought McGregor.
Two-weight world champion Malignaggi has on numerous times challenged McGregor and mocked his boxing ability in constant verbal attacks.
McGregor revealed in January he wanted to box again and Malignaggi was a potential opponent.
He told ESPN: “I’d like to box Paulie, why not? That’s a bit of buzz, Paulie in a boxing bout.”

    6

Paulie Malignaggi and McGregor built a feud after their sparring sessions
    Jose Aldo
McGregor was first scheduled to fight Aldo in July 2015 and the pair visited eight cities to promote the event.
Brazilian Aldo – unbeaten for ten years at the time – was subject to constant verbal and mental warfare by his outspoken challenger.
But the fight was delayed after the champion pulled out injured, with McGregor instead beating Chad Mendes for the interim title.
The featherweight unification was moved to December, allowing McGregor more time to get under Aldo’s skin.
It proved vital, as Aldo appeared tense before the bell sounded and was knocked out in 13 seconds having recklessly charged forward.
McGregor paid his respect to the legendary South American afterwards and even offered him a rematch, but The Notorious would instead go on to bigger and better things.

Forster said: “Tyson and Jones Jr. won’t be wearing headgear for the fight. They’ll be lacing up 12-ounce gloves and there won’t be any judges present at the fight to score the action. So, technically, there won’t be a winner unless a knockout somehow occurs, or either fighter is deemed unfit to continue.
“They can move around and make some money, but I told them if you get cut, it’s over.”

    What have they said?
Mike Tyson: “We’re throwing punches at each other. This is going to be my definition of fun … broken eye sockets, broken jaw, broken rib. That’s fun to me.”
Roy Jones Jr: “He’s still Mike Tyson, he’s still one of the strongest, most explosive people who ever touched a boxing ring. If anything, I made a mistake going in with him. He’s the bigger guy, he’s the explosive guy. He’s going to have all the first-round fireworks, not me. I do have first-round fireworks, but he’s known for more first-round fireworks than anybody to ever touch boxing, other than maybe George Foreman.” More

Mike Tyson fight with Roy Jones Jr has ruled changed to be just two-minute rounds as WBC fear for veterans’ safety

MIKE TYSON will fight Roy Jones Jr in eight two-minute rounds after the WBC stepped in over SAFETY concerns.
But Jones Jr believes changing it from six three-minte rounds actually make it MORE dangerous for him against the self-titled Baddest Man On The Planet.

Roy Jones Jr is not happy his fight against Mike Tyson will now be eight two-minute rounds

The two boxing legends will have an exhibition bout on November 28 in the US at a combined age of 105.
Jones has shockingly admitted ‘death is a possibility’ when he squares off against Iron Mike.
And Tyson’s trainer Rafael Cordeiro previously stated that Tyson, even at the age of 54, could ‘kill somebody’.
Now the WBC, who are commissing the bout, have added a stipulation to the American pair trading blows.

Jones Jr explained on the Joe Rogan Podcast: “They’ve got me doing 8x2miniute rounds now.
“That’s to his advantage too. Everything’s to his advantage, that’s to his advantage too.
“At this point, the fans are so excited about it, I wouldn’t want to pull the rug from under the fans… and they (Team Tyson) will try and sue me.
“It’s not really worth it, so I’m going to go in and do these two rounds , but I’m going to have to work a little bit faster than I expected to.”

Jones Jr was furious the fight was pushed back to November after it was initially scheduled for September.
But despite yet another change in the rules, the 51-year-old is all hands to the pump – despite admitting it will be ‘dangerous’ for him.
He added: “They decided this just last week.

Jones Jr began his professional career way back in May 1989 and was crowned heavyweight champion of the world four years later.
He fought a whopping 75 times in a career that spanned virtually three decades with his last pro bout in February 2018 as he beat Scott Sigmon to take his record to 66-9.
But now into his 50s, Jones Jr knows the risk is increasing – but said dying through boxing would make him ‘die a happy man’.
He added: “Problem with me is, why I love and why I do what I do, because I love boxing.
“So if I gotta die boxing, I die a happy man.”
